IPad fourth generation won't charge during use.

Hi, I recently noticed that my new iPad fourth generation won't charge while I'm using it. The lightning cord is plugged in and connected but the iPad keeps loosing battery while I use it when it signals 20% left! Why does it do this? Is Apple going to fix this? I love using iPad and I hate devices that need to be left alone for a while until fully charged... Anyways, is it normal? Does anyone else's iPads do this? Please tell me!!

Replace your 10W charger with a 12W charger.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • IPad (4th generation) won't charge in sony vaio laptop

why is my ipad retina is not charging when i connect thru usb to my laptop sony vaio?

Most USB ports on computers do not provide enough power for efficient charging. You will get the Not Charging message while at the same time your iPad may be charging albeit extremely slowly. The best way to charge your iPad is to use the wall charger that came with the iPad.

  • Ipad Frozen and Won't Charge

So I was using my iPad for class and the battery ran out. I went home to charge my iPad, and the apple logo screen appeared for about half a minute and then a brief flash of the unlock screen which quickly disappear and was replaced by the black loading screen. My iPad also won't charge from either its 10 watt wall charger, stereo dock, or via USB. I tried everything from rebooting (holding down home and lock screen) and to factory setting. My laptop doesn't recognize my iPad, and it won't undergo recovery either due to "error." I'm not sure what to do now, I feel like something is wrong with its hardware.

The iPad won't charge from your stereo or via USB. If your iPad totally discharged, it won't show charging for about the first 15-20 minutes.

Sounds like it is dying. Is it still under warranty? If it is, I suggest you take it to Apple and ask them to repair it.

  • Should I always let my iPad 3rd generation die and charge ? Takes almost close to 12 hours for a 100%  charge. Any suggestions ? iPad is over a year old

Should I always let my iPad 3rd generation die and charge ? Takes almost close to 12 hours for a 100%  charge. Any suggestions ? iPad is over a year old and don't want to buy a new one if this problem will continue to happen. Help

Do not let the battery drop to 0%. That is very damaging for a lithium based battery, as in the iPad. Charge at any time, for any amount.

  • HT1430 I am trying to charge my iPad but it won't charge & keeps turning itself on and off

I am trying to charge my iPad but it won't charge & keeps turning itself on and off

You can try resetting your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.
Try again to see if the problem persists.

  • My iPod touch 3th generations won't charge on jbl dock station

I have a jbl dock station and my ipod touch third generation won't charge but play music

    Did it work before?
Does JBL (support site) say it will work with a 3G iPod with iOS 5.1.1?
Maybe this will make it charge:
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod and dock for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • I have an iPad 1st Generation and would like to use it when in Istanbul.  How do I do this and will it cost anything?

I have an iPad 1st Generation Wi-Fi + 3G but my network is Verizon.  I would just like to use it when in Istanbul to check and send email to the US and to Skype.  Is this possible? Do I need to enable or disable anything to use it, or just turn it on?  And, (finally!) is it totally free using a free wi-fi connection?  Thanks much - the Verizon site is too confusing!

Thank you for replying, but I don't quite understand.  I don't need mobile internet at all times.  I am hoping to bring my iPad and only use it in the hotel lobby which has wifi.  I am trying to determine if it can be used to recieve and send email while in Istanbul as well as get on Skype.  Also - will how to do this be apparent to me when I turn it on - or do I need to set any preferences (etc).  And will Verizon apply any charges?  This is an iPad 1st gen and though it has 3G, I have never used it - only with wifi.  Thanks!

  • My ipod touch 4th generation won't charge all of a sudden and I'm not sure what to do?

When I get home from school I instantly put my ipod on it's charger because I use it a lot during the day. i always put in on an ipod dock and play my music while it charges and use my computer until it's completely done charging. So, today I did that and had a friend over and while she was using my computer I asked her to pass me my ipod and she did and I used it without any problems whatsoever. After she left I put it on the charger where it did not work. I figured it was the dock itself so I turned it off then on and nothing it still wouldn't work, then I went and put it on an outlet charger where it acknowledged that it was on a charger and turned on for a brief moment then turned off again and again. It hasn't been used since then and it keeps truning on and off. I was getting worried and tried to look up some solutions online but wasn't getting any until I saw this one that said it could have possibly been from the static shock of something. My friend shocked herself before touching it then I did the same later while putting it on an outlet charger... could that be it? And if so, how do I fix it? Please I really need some help with this.

    Not Charge
    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • IPad Air mini won't charge

I have been travelling for a month charging my iPad mini, ipad, and iPhone 5 with the same charger and cord. Now my iPad mini is dead and won't charge. Help!

Did the re-boot as suggested and it is working again.  It wasn't a charging problem but had frozen up.

  • Brand new iPad Mini Retina won't charge when its connected to my PC

I just opened up my brand new iPad Mini Retina and attempted to plug it into my PC and set it up. The iPad quickly recognizes my PC, briefly displays the charge symbol then immediately displays "not charging." I have attempted to plug the iPad into the wall, and it charges just fine. All the cables I'm using are straight out of the box which I bought right from the Apple Store so I know its not any of those. My laptop is fully charged and also plugged into the wall, so I know its not my computer. I also double checked everything by plugging my iPhone 5 into my computer (with the new iPad lightening cable) and it charges/syncs just fine. Im stumped, please help me fix my brand new iPad Mini Retina.

I know you said PC, for for others that have an iMac with USB 3 ports, they can put out extra power to charge an iPad.  (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4049?viewlocale=en_US)

  • Ipod touch 2nd generation, won't charge but it will still sync with itunes

Everything works except it wont charge. it has the 'done charging symbol' in the battery except its pretty much dead. i know its not a bad usb port or anything because you can still put songs on it and stuff. now it just keeps switching from charging to done charging and i have no idea what's wrong with it. help please?

I would do a restore and see if the problem corrects itself. You might also want to try a wall charger.
Since you posted on the Apple side of the forum, I'm going to assume you have some type of Apple computer. Don't plug your touch into the keyboard USB port (it won't charge) and a restart will re-intialize your USB ports. I would try those steps as well.
If you continue to have problems, it is time for a repair or battery replacement.
