Why is Safari crashing so often on my iPad 1since the iOS5 upgrade?
Using tabbed browsing seems to make it worse.

I haven't seen that problem with iOS 7.
Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after the iPad shuts down, then press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).
If these don't correct the problem connect to iTunes and do a restore.
    You can't downgrade iOS levels.

  • Restoring firmware freeze on ios5 upgrade

restoring firmware freeze on ios5 upgrade

Just to conclude, and give hope for any still suffering, I succesfully upgraded my iPAD to ios5 yesterday evening.
I did have a conversation with Apple support a couple of days agao, in line with many others I was given various reasons why things oustide the Apple environment might be the root cause such as
    - ports blocked on the network I was using (although when I asked which ones they weren't certain - "80 and 442 we think" was the response
    - a fault on the iPAD
    - slow network connection
The more interesting part of teh conversation was Apple was that the firmware update part of the install actually involves quite a lot of interaction with apple servers. My conclusion would be that the well documented performance problems in the early days after ios5 release were the root cause of my problem - reference to network ports. iPAD faults were just a smokescreen.
My key learning - don't upgrade soon after a major release, I already knew this but when offered an update I didn't go back and check precisley when it had been released so I should have paid more attention :-)

  • Backing up iPad issue during iOS5 install

I am unable to back up the iPad during the iOS5 installation... takes forever, then never completes.
Can I install iOS5 with out performing the backup?  I have backed up the iPad during regular syncs (where would I find that backup if I had to do a restore?)

Same problem. At second attempt got a message that ipad memory was over capacity.  I had 6GB free on the ipad2 when I started to upgrade and it was now telling me i needed more!  After deleting all my photos (4GB which had been loaded from camera and the only way I could find to do this was one at a time!) the upgrade apparently succeeded but in itunes it said I now had 8GB of "Others" in the memory and only 1 GB free.
Lookign in "Diagnostics & Usage data" I can see 3 scripts coinciding with the upgrade attempts all of which start with "Sysinfocrashreporterkey" 2 with "bug-type 193" a couple of lines down, and one with "bug-type 109"
    Questions:
What are the 8GB of "Others" and how do i get rid of it?
How can I bulk-delete photos transferred from camera?
What do the bug-types refer to and do they indicate a solution?

  • 3GS stuck in recovery mode during ios5 upgrade

Downloaded ios5 but was not able to sync phone.  iTunes keeps telling me to restore iPhone before it can be used with iTunes. During recovery iTunes stops recognizing my phone, the message "iT has detected an iP in recovery mode..." pops up and the process starts over, where it begins downloading ios5 again. It ran like this all night.

Problem solved, so I'm posting an update on how I solved it:
    1. Forced phone into DFU mode.
DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade) mode is not the same as restore mode. DFU mode bypasses the current OS installed and allows you to upgrade or downgrade your OS.
I found the info I needed on this link: http://askville.amazon.com/iphone-dfu-mode-explain-breif/AnswerViewer.do?request Id=12881693 so here are the copy/paste directions for how to get to DFU:
    Step One
Open iTunes and connect the iPhone to your computer.
    Step Two
Press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time.
    Step Three
After exactly 10 seconds release the Sleep/Wake button. Continue holding the home button until you iTunes pops up a message telling you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.
The iPhone screen will be black, but the device will be recognized on iTunes.
    2. Clicked "restore" in iTunes.
iTunes downloaded iOS5 (again), which took hours, then restored everything since my last backup (the day before)
The phone is still connected to computer with USB, so resist the urge to touch anything on the phone while it reloads everything...slowly.
Best wishes for a painless recovery.

  • Backup during iOS5 upgrade not available?

Hi - I just updated my iPhone 4 to iOS5. During this update, iTunes said that a backup was created. Now, after completing the upgrade, something went wrong (programs didn't work) so I restored from a previous backup. This, however, proved to be a bad idea. The backup was from when I first received my iPhone and contains no data what so ever. This seems to be the only backup present, which I don't understand, since iTunes clearly said during the update, that a backup was made.
Do you have any ideas of how I'm going to get all my data back? Does iTunes store the backup made during the update in another location that normal backups (I've checked C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\AppleComputer\MobileSync\Backup but I only found the one that I restored from, which wasn't the right one)?
Kind regards and thanks in advance!

  • Zen Micro constantly FREEZES during FIRMWARE UPGRADE - totally bricked!

    Hey,
It's just like it says. My Zen Micro currently has no firmware besides the recovery OS because I chose "reload firmware."? I try to upgrade to both versions of the Zen Micro firmware (.x and 2.x) and as soon as my computer gets started and the Zen Micro has the little "data exchange" icon on there, the computer and Zen Micro hang. The progress bar gets nowhere and it's the Micro that's frozen, not the computer or the firmware upgrade program (I'm a software engineer, I know if it's the program freezing, and it is NOT).
How in blazes is this happening? How can I stop my Micro from freezing? It's all so confusing!
By the way, stats about the PC used:
    OS: Windows XP Sp2
    Windows Media Player 0 installed
    USB 2.0 ports

I have exactly the same issue. Just tried to run the v.x to v2.x firmware upgrade and its been in recovery mode ever since. I tried to run the clean up / format / reload firmware option but it didn't work it just keeps coming back to the recovery mode. Anyone know how to fix this ? I was due to be getting on a 20 hour flight with this one as my company in half a days time so anyone with any good suggestions feel free to tell me ASAP!
    ThanksSteve

  • IPhone 4 freezes during restore/upgrade to iOS 7.0.2

I have an iPhone 4 that was running iOS 6.1.3. I requested that my provider unlock my phone and they told me I had to back up and restore to proceed, which necessitated that I upgrade to iOS 7.0.2. When I tried to download the iOS 7.0.2 IPSW directly through iTunes, I received a message upon the completion of the download that the file was corrupted. I decided to bypass this step by downloading the IPSW directly from Apple and alt-clicking the Restore button to choose the file directly. Each time, the upgrade hangs about 30% of the way through, leaving me essentially with a bricked phone. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I might be able to successfully restore my phone?

I was only able to restore the phone after booting into Windows and using the Windows version of iTunes. Kinda pathetic.

  • IPad frozen during iOS5 update

Hi, I've been trying all day to update my iPad to ios 5. It seems to be stuck because its stuck at the black screen with the apple logo and a full progress bar. My itunes's progress bar is almost full. I've left it for several hours and reset, then tried again and still nothing. How long should it take to update? My ipad seems stuck so what do i do?

Same in here, i tried 2 days, then gave up and gave it to the offical technical support in Turkey. They also tried for 2 days, still no result. Then they called me and said " it might be something in hardware, we are going to check it". tommorow will be the 6th day in service. If i find out anything i will write you.

  • Apps freeze during update in iOS 8.02

After updating to 8.02 I am having my ipad freeze during the app update process.  I get the circle but the ring fails to show any download progress. If I touch the circle it returns to the update button?  This on a new iPad air

Close the App Store app and reset your iPad.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Next, reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If those things made no difference, try this. Reset all settings. You will not lose any data, but most of the device settings will have to be entered in the settings app again. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings.

  • Has anyone been unable to restore their iPad after attempting to upgrade to ios5? error 1

Has anyone been unable to restore their iPad after attempting to upgrade to ios5? I get an unknown error 1 message. Thanks.

I have the same problem. Something happened during the download and froze iTunes. After spending three days searching these forums with the dead iPad, the only thing I got to work was to try downloading iOS 5 using my sons computer. This worked. However I cannot now get my computer's iTunes to sync with my iPad.. It contains the same error message (1602) and has the same problem as before. It is not an antivirus problem. I need some help too

  • Ipad not recognized by windows neither iTunes after error in the iOS5 upgrade

The iOS5 upgrade was stopped due to an error.
Since then the iPad is not being recognized by windows neither iTunes. I've re-installed iTunes, the file usbaapl.sys is at windows\system32\drivers and Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers folders but still there's an error when I plug in the iPad - Apple Mobile Device (Recovery) - This device can not start (code10).
I've call the support here in Brazil and the only information that I got was that this was due to the fact that I'm running windows XP and it doesn't support iTunes 10.5 and iOS 5. Can any one confirm this? Why there's no information on this when I installed the 10.5 version and downloaded the iOS 5?
Any help would be highly apreciated because now I have my iPad asking to be connected to iTunes and no chance to get a PC with a different version of Windows...

Glad you got it fixed - and I wasn't trying to be a wise guy.
It just seemed logical to me that if iTunes recognized the iPad and the iPhone - but they didn't show un in your Windows Devices Manager or Explorer or whatever it's called - that it was probably a Windows thing.
Now you must truly be a HappyMommy!

  • Ipad 1 in recovery mode after ios5 upgrade attempt

    Hello everybody,
I tried to upgrade my ipad 1 to ios5. When error 3200 disappeared, my ipad came in a reboot loop and wasn't recognized anymore. After entering DFU mode iTunes tells me there's an iPad in recovery mode and I can start recovery, but recovery ends at 2/3 of recovery process. Then iTunes tells there's an "unrecognized error (1)".
Does anyone have the same problems? My ipad upgrade log file.can be found here: http://pastebin.com/9B3E5k73

Earlier today I sent the below to fransfromvught:
I am not sure if this reply is going to everyone or just fransfromvught.  Anyhow, a very helpful and patient apple phone support person solved tne problem for me - it took over two hours on the phone!
    - download the current version of iTunes to another computer, either mac or pc.  I was told if a pc, it should have XP service Pack 3.
    - plug the iPad into the other computer with the fresh download and restore iTunes to the iPad.
    - whe that restore is complete, unplug the iPad from the other computer and plug it into the original computer you were using.
    - do the restore on the original computer and keep your fingers crossed!  Be sure to sync the iPad before unplugging it.  Poof, it worked for me!
Fortunately I had an old Toshiba lap top with XP service pack 3 laying around to use as the "other computer."  PC / Microsoft to the rescue in my case!
Hopefully I correctly remember the steps taken.  Please forward this to the others and let me know if this works for you.
I'm now in the cloud ... Happy iPading!!
