Ipad froze, restore error 4013

My iPad Air was in "frozen" mode when I tried to turn it on yesterday morning. I have tried multiple times to re-boot via on/off and home button combinations as well as the iTune restore.
All updates have been installed on my Mac laptop - (latest iTunes and OS).  I've tried the "restore" 6 times and continue to get the same message "iPad could not be restored, unknown error (4013)". I have the Restore error instructions to install latest iTunes, restart computer, update OS, use differ USB cable....(I don't have a different PC to restore to).  Lastly, use another USB power/cable.
no change.... still no boot or restore, or recovery.
ANY suggestions!!??

FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
1. Turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...
Note:
1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
3. Repeat the process if necessary.

  • The iOS 8.1.2 update bricked my 4th gen iPad. I can't even do a DFU mode restore - error 4013. The iPad worked perfectly before the update and is 16 months old. Any suggestions anyone - except to shout loudly at the Apple support line?

I set my iPad to do the latest iOS update as per usual - over the air and while on charge. When I returned to it, it was non functional the screen was blank. I reset multiple times and at one point got a red screen. I connected it to iTunes on my Mac and tried to force a restore, but this didn't work - even in DFU mode. I have gotten a 4013 error every time. I've tried different cables and different USB ports etc, but no success. It's a brick.

I have multiple Macs around the house and have tried all of them - all with the same results alas. I've restarted, ensured iTunes is up to date etc too.
On DFU mode - yes - that's it. I have no idea what DFU stands for, but it this mode is often referred to as this. I get the 'connect to iTunes' picture and can begin the restore, but the process times out waiting for the iPad. Apparently, 4013 is associated with a cable problem,, but I know the hardware is all fine.
What I want to avoid is just being told to buy another iPad. That would be totally unacceptable for an error caused by an update to a 16 month old device. There has to be some solution!

  • IPad 3 restore error

    Hi
Anyone else having an error with the DISCONTINUED iPad3 third gen Wi-Fi? Mine is only 16 months old, so nicely timed (just out of warranty)
If I let the battery naturally run out, it goes into a 'shut-down' mode. It will not turn back on. I plug it into the charger and the white apple appears, instead of starting up it shuts back down. And continues to do this for about an hour until the 'connect to iTunes to restore image appears'. I plug it into a computer and restore it. I have had to do this multiple times now. Now I try not to let the battery run out—but I shouldn't have to fear this. Even restored It is still not working right, sometimes it just decides to shut down and restart while I'm using it.
Both the iPad and my computer are all up to date with the latest software.
Is anyone experiencing this? Or know what this issue may be? I am planning on taking it in to an apple genius bar. But I would be interested to know if there are others like me dealing with this as well.
    Cheers,
    Caroline

Error -1 means a hardware failure.  You'll need to bring your phone into Apple or an authorized service provider in your area.

  • IPad 2 Restore Error (-1) with iOS 5.1.1

    Hello there everyone
My iPad last night seemed to get itself into a restart loop so I plugged it into iTunes to do a restore. The restore goes ahead and it verifies, extracts and does all the usual steps up until it says "Restoring iPad Firmware". Here it seems to get stuck for a few minutes until it throws an error: "The iPad "iPad" could not be restored. An unknown error has occured (-1)." I have tried pretty much everything in terms of resolving a restore issue such as switching USB ports, restarting iTunes, restarting the computer, changing USB cables, activating "DFU" mode and so on. Nothing. I have looked after this iPad very well, it was a gift, its been in a case its whole life, I travel around with it in a sleeve and I haven't dropped it or done anything that could of caused an issue.
It is still under warranty, this is a replacement unit I got when my first iPad kept throwing up an error 9. I will obviously take it in if there is an issue, however, I can only get to the nearest Apple store in a few weeks.
Much appreciated to anyone taking the time to read this and possibly help me find a solution.
    Cheers
    Chris

No, I have never jailbroken it, I did read something mentioning that being related to the issue, however, because I have never jailbroken it, it probably isn't related to me.

  • HT201210 iPad 2 restore error 1600

iPad not powering up when restore comes up error 1600

    See here
Plug your device into a USB that you have not used before and see if it tries to install the drivers for it automatically.  If it doesn't or you dont have a usb that you have not used before then see here on how to proceed.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
It relates to either a faulty connection or more likely a usb port not behaving correctly.
Try a different USB port - test the cable itself by plugging in and seeing if its charging.
Open itunes - put your device into restore mode and then connect via cable and a different usb port.

  • IPad update/restore error and itunes no longer recognizes device

I just updated my iPad to 5  today.  An error occurred during the restore and it is now stuck on the "connect to itunes" screen.  I have followed all the instructions to restart my iPad but now itunes will not recognize it.  When I follow these steps, the connect to itunes screen comes on but itunes does not start on my computer.  When I open itunes, the ipad is not listed as a device.  I've researched a ton of threads and have tried the following with NO success.
    Different USB
    Verified current version of itunes
    Verified & restarted AMDS
    Reinstalled itunes
    Temporarily disabled security software.
    Ran msconfgs
I am so frustrated that nothing has worked and my iPad is still stuck.  I wish I had never done the update.  Please help!

  • Iphone 5s error 4013

i have a iPhone 5S with Restore Error 4013 and you need Apple Warranty Coverage to Replace the iPhone 5S and you live in Israel. How do I get a Replacement iPhone from Apple? Help?

Did you follow all the steps in the article I posted?
    Symptoms
When you try to update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, iTunes may display one of these messages:
The iPhone [device name] could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (4005).
The iPhone [device name] could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (4013).
The iPhone [device name] could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (4014).
This may happen if the device unexpectedly disconnects during the update or restore or iTunes couldn't tell the device to go to the restore state.
    Resolution
Try these steps to resolve the issue:
Install the latest version of iTunes.
    Restart your computer.
Make sure your computer is up to date. If an update requires a restart, check for updates again after you restart.

    Restore using another USB cable.
Restore your device on another computer.
If you continue to see error 4005, 4013, or 4014 when you restore your device, contact Apple for support.

  • Can't restore my bricked ipad getting error 4013

HELP. My Ipad has been stuck in a reboot loop. Have tried to restart and resore but keep getting Error 4013. Ipad now useless.
    Please help.

Hi,  error 4013 could not restore ipad/iphone
I had the same issue as you what I did to reslove the issue was to:
    1.   Make sure the ipad is in DFU recovery mode (waiting for you to plug into itunes symbol)
    2.   Use an original ipad cable that came with it our from another ipad
    3.   Do not use any type of extension cable between the ipad and the pc/mac
4    Before you plug in your cable to the ipad move it to another USB port on your pc/mac one that you have not tried before or normally use
    5.   start itunes by right clicking on itunes run as administrator.
    6.   when itunes detects in recovery mode start the recovery.
    7.   Your pc/mac now detects the ipad hardware again and installs the driver properly again.
    8.   sit back and voila.
    hope that helps.
    regards,
    LaCalaTech.

  • Error 3259 and ipad 2 restore

I have an ipad 2 and the current version of itunes.  All of this happened yesterday after I tried to update to the newest IOS.
The ipad screen shows the connect to itunes screen.  When connected to itunes it wants to restore but wants to restore with update.  Every time I run update it runs about 1/2 way and then goes to error 3259.
The itunes screen on the computer shows the ipad as n/a serial number and from the itunes menu I cannot restore it at all.  The ipad hasn't been hacked and ran perfectly before I started the update yesterday morning.
    Help?!?!?

If you've tried a different computer and different cable and still get the 4013 error then, from iOS: Restore errors 4005, 4013, and 4014 :
If you continue to see error 4005, 4013, or 4014 when you restore your device, contact Apple for support.
