IPad GarageBand track sync bug?

I have posted this as a possible bug with Apple's feedback page, but I wanted to see if anyone else has found the same issue.
Using GB with iPad 1 -- have recorded several tracks, enough to cause GB to "optimize" for better performance. I assume this is a memory thing.
After this optimization, I sometimes find that the next track recorded is out of sync by one bar. For example, in an 8-bar song section, when I record the next track I will hear the "count-in" suddenly TWO bars long instead of one, and then find that all other tracks are now shifted by this extra bar. Other song sections are similarly pushed along one bar.
This is hard to describe in words, but I took some screen grabs:
http://www.dropbox.com/gallery/2178026/1/Garageband%20bug%20pics?h=f05e8a
(Sorry the images are sideways, that's the iPad orientation ...)
First image: you can see the song (such as it is, this is for illustrative purposes not musicallity) in three parts. The first part has one track, and though I only recorded it once, you can see two parts to it -- the first part is this phantom extra bar that has appeared and screwed everything else up. You can see the other sections and tracks have all been pushed along by an extra bar.
Second image: the first song section -- there's that weirdo bar at the start. Why has it separated from the others? Who knows?
Third image: recording the next track, you can see it starts out of sync with the first one. Nothing I can do to fix this, and they cannot be moved to return to sync.
Fourth image: this is the next song section, you can see all tracks are shifted along one bar, and cannot be shifted back.
I should add, the sound is out of sync with the playhead by one bar -- something is going wrong with the sync between the audio and the visual representation in GB, and it is somehow linked to that stupid messed up track with the extra bar.
I don't expect anyone will come up with a solution, I just want to know if anyone can confirm the issue.
Kip
P.S. I may be going mad, but I seem to recall something similar -- tracks out of sync with audio -- in GB for OS X in the past. Maybe it's just me?!?

Hey, I'm having the same issue. After I export the song from the iPad to GarageBand on my Mac, i get empty tracks and also get some warnings about files that couldn't be found where they were expected.
Do you have any news on this?
Thanks!

  • Huge Syncing bug when iPad is almost full

    Hi,
Just wanted to report I've just encountered a huge bug some minutes ago.
My iPad1 16gb (4.3.3) was almost full, there were something like 491mb left.
Tried to sync it via iTunes (10.3.1) which was unable to sync and import purchased apps cos it considered there was no space left on the device. I must say sync was set on manual, apps were not to be synced automatically, as for videos, photos and everything else.
Tried once again and same result. Unable to sync cos' iPad is full.
At this point, iTunes just crashed.
Relaunched it and tried to sync iPad a third time, which failed eventually.
At this particular point, iTunes just told me it was unable to read iPad's content and that I had to restore it…
I feel like there's something really weird which is happening here. I mean, there were 500 mb left and iTunes considered iPad full… which means it can be quite a huge problem for 16gb iPad owners if this bug is "spread" — or say generic.
BTW, I could have lost 2 months of hard work (and it is quite ironic as it was some work for an ebook to be sold on iBookStore soon) if I had not backed-up everything before (when there were 1gb left on iPad). In other words, the device I'm using a lot in my creative process could have screwed me. I wanted to use only iPad and iPhone for some projects but this event shows me it's just a dangerous idea.
If anybody encountered the same problem, feel free to report it.

Well, as I've said, fortunately I backed up everything and i'm backing up on a regular basis since those works are precious. I've just lost some saves from recent games I've purchased and that's it.
I've tried to sync an iPhone 3GS (1.2 gb left) and no problem.
Reinstalled iTunes just in case, after iPhone sync.
Then, I tried something with my iPhone 3GS. I've stuffed it so that there were something like 330mb left and…
same problem just happened. iTunes unable to sync, iTunes crashed, third sync and unable to read iPhone's content then restored iPhone 3GS.
Don't know if some app is involved, i've had quite a lot of problems with Real Racing 2 HD which crashed a lot on iPad but the app is not installed on my iPhone.
I'll try to find the crash report and post it tomorrow. Sorry, it's 2 A.M. in Europe and I'm a little bit in need of sleep.
Thank you for your concern anyway. Good to see the community is very reactive.

  • Does iCloud back up all of my GarageBand tracks?

When I back up or sync my iPad to my computer, does it back up all of my GarageBand tracks as well? I have about 200+ tracks right now still need some final editing. I would hate to lose them all I usually sync my iPad with my computer I just don't know if it is backing theses tracks up too, or just the app itself. Please advise, thanks.

If you backup the device to your computer that should include all the private data and settings for each app. You can separately export individual GarageBand for iOS projects but at present there is no way to reimport such projects to your iPad with iTunes.

  • Longstanding Exchange Calendar Sync Bug Persists in iOS 7 / 7.0.2

For those who sync their iPhone / iPad / iPod touch to a Microsoft Exchange e-mail environment, you may be aware that there's a longstanding Exchange Calendar Sync bug (affecting iOS 4.x - 6.1.3).  An otherwise functional iDevice may suddenly remain warmer to the touch than normal, exhibit much shorter battery life, and start using cellular data at up to ten times the user's typical pattern.  I've taked with Apple Support several times, and was never able to get an answer.  The fix involves simply opening the Exchange account settings on the iDevice, shutting off calendar sync for thirty seconds, and turning it back on.  This is nothing new.
Over the weekend, an executive’s iPhone 5 (on Verizon) and his iPad 2 (Wi-Fi only), both running iOS 7, began exhibiting runaway connections to my employer’s Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync server.  The user upgraded his iPhone 5 to iOS 7.0.2 over the weekend, but the problem persisted.  In one 24-hour period, his iPhone checked in with our server 45,009 times, while his iPad connected 55,547 times.  Normally we’d expect to see a single device connect a few hundred times per day rather than tens of thousands.
I've written more about it here.

This is still a problem in iOS 7.0.4 as well.  We just had runaway calendar sync behavior on a 4th generation iPad running iOS 7.0.4 (iPad3C4/1102.55400001), which connected 75,436 times in a single 24-hour day.

  • Majority of recently added tracks won't sync (error -50); previously added tracks sync fine

Argh. I have a 5th Gen iPod Classic (80GB) and, until very recently, it's been functioning quite well.  Now I am getting error "'iTunes could not copy {song name} to the iPod {iPod name} because an unknown error occured (-50)." when trying to sync songs I have recently added to iTunes from several sources.  However, a few recently added tracks successfully synced.
In particular, there are numerous albums and songs recently purchased from Amazon that do not sync, although they play fine in iTunes.  In addition, a free song downloaded from Last.FM does not sync.  I also tried ripping a CD to AAC, and the majority of the songs do not sync.  (The first time I tried to sync the songs ripped from CD, only one track synced.  The second time, a second track synced as well.  36 additional tracks have failed to sync).
Note that there is nothing different about the format (codec, bitrate) of these newly added tracks.  Tracks added a month or so ago with identical specs and from the same sources were able to sync without a problem.
A free song downladed today from the iTunes store did sync, however.
I am on XP SP3 (up to date) and have tried all of the following:
    * Updating iTunes to latest version (10.6.3.25)
    * Uninstalling then reinstalling iTunes
    * Updating firmware on my iPod (was 1.2, upgraded to 1.3)
    * Performing "Restore" on iPod and freshly re-syncing all tracks
    * Enabling the "Enable disk use" option on the iPod
    * Updating the Windows registry as directed in this tech bulletin: <http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1539>
    * Error checked the iPod using the Windows "Error-checking" utility (under Properties-->Tools) - no errors reported.
    Further reference:
    * "Convert higher bit rate songs to (rate) AAC" is not enabled on the iPod.
    * There is still about 32GB free on the iPod after syncing all of my library except the new tracks
    * Only antivirus software installed is Microsoft Security Essentials, which is up to date and reports no infections
What is going on??  Approximately 9600+ tracks that were added to iTunes before my recent difficulties (including tracks from many different sources) synced flawlessly when I performed the Restore.  The only tracks creating the problem are tracks added very recently to iTunes.
Is it possible that my iTunes library is corrupt?  Can I rebuild or repair it without losing anything?  Should I follow the steps in this tech bulletin <http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451>?

Okay, I have a partial understanding of the problem, and more importantly a workaround.
I think the Amazon MP3 Downloader was indeed the culprit.  It is configured to automatically add your downloaded tracks to the iTunes library.  I think the most recent version of this application has some kind of bug and did not add the tracks to the library properly.
It is kind of a subtle bug, because the tracks were added well enough to see them and play them in iTunes.  However, I think the filepath that was added to the iTunes library was . . . messed up somehow?  In iTunes, the paths for the offending tracks looked something like this:
    F:/Music/AMAZON~1/BEEGEE~1/NUMBER~1/01-MAS~1.MP3
It is still strange to me is that rebuilding the library did not fix the problem, but regardless, I found a way to get sync working:
    (1) Made sure "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" was enabled under Edit --> Preferences --> Advanced Preferences
    (2) Used File --> Add Folder To Library . . . to add the folder where the Amazon MP3 Downloader put my downloads
This reorganized my Music file into the standard Artist/Album structure.  However, the old, nonworking tracks were still in the library.
    (3) Used File --> Display Duplicates, then sorted by "Album by Artist"
    (4) Manually deleted all the nonworking duplicate entries.  (You can tell which one is the problem--when you click on a problematic entry, an exclamation point in a grey circle will appear next to the track name)
After this, everything synced perfectly, including the remaining tracks I ripped from the CD.  My file paths for the recent Amazon downloads now look like this:
    F:\Music\Bee Gees\Number Ones\01 Massachusetts.mp3
Hope this helps someone else, and I hope the problem is fixed in a future software release from Amazon.

  • The iPad cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (1140).

Since updating my iPad to iOS 6 and updating iPhoto to 9.4, I have been receiving the error The iPad <name of my iPad> cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (1140).
The syncing seems to be centered around photos. I used to have the box checked next to "Sync Photos from iPhoto" and now the only way that I can get the iPad to finish sync without error is to uncheck that box.
Any ideas how to fix this problem or what that code is?
A couple things that I should mention:
    1) Photo Stream is Off on my iPad.
    2) If you click on the Photo app it shows that there are no photos on the iPad. Screen says No Photos or Videos - You can take photos and videos using the camera, or sync photos and videos onto your iPad usining iTunes.
    3) If I go to Settings > General > Usage > Photos & Camera it shows that I have 4.2 GB of data used by photos and camera. Clicking on it, it shows that 3.7 GB is Photo Stream and 551 MB is Photo Library.
    4) If I got to the same usage screen on my iPhone 4 running iOS 6, Photo Stream is listed as 1.5 GB.
I can't seem to figure out how to get rid of the space on the iPad, but I assume this error as something to do with iTunes thinking there is a library on the iPad that isn't there. That's just me assuming though.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having the same issue.  After updating all iOS devices to iOS 6, then updating all software on my iMac to the latest versions (including iPhoto 9.4), everthing was working as it should.  I was able to sync all of my devices (New iPad, iPod Touch, iPhone4) with the iMac early this morning.
Subsequently, I opened iPhoto for the first time since installing 9.4, a window popped up informing me that my photo library had to be converted to work with the iPhoto 9.4.  I clicked okay, and let the conversion process run its course.
About ten minutes later, I attempted to once again sync my iPad with the iMac.  The sync process would run for a few seconds, then stop with a window popping up saying "The iPad cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (1140)".  I then attempted to sync the iPod and my iPhone, with the same results.
After consulting the discussion forums, it looked like lots of other users are encountering the same problem, and that it was somehow related to the new iPhoto.  Someone suggested turning off syncing photos from iPhoto, which I did.  With photo syncing turned off, the rest of the sync program now runs without a problem.
I've submitted a bug report to Apple.  Hopefully, enough other users have done the same, and Apple will fix whatever it is that's causing the problem.

  • Ipad notes not syncing with iphone notes

My iphone 4 and ipad 3 arent syncing their notes, even though ive checked the iCloud & mail, contacts, calendars settings on both devices and they are set up the same. The only difference i can see is the iphone notes has a button on the top left corner called Accounts, which the ipad doesnt.
It seems that they used to sync as some of the old notes on the ipad are from my iphone but they no longer sync and its really starting to bug me

Of all the discussions I read on this topic—including the official notes from Apple—I found this thread to be the most instructive on how syncing occurs between an iPhone and iPad, as well as why syncing seems to fail. I came here because my iPhone 4 had 39 Notes but my iPad had only 28, and I could not figure out why syncing was not occuring.
What I learned here—thank you very much—that I did not find was made clear enough elsewhere is that syncing only occurs when both the default email accounts to which the Note is sent is the same on both devices, namely the iCloud account. If there is a mismatch, as was occurring on my iPhone, then syncing will not succeed simply because the iPhone is not sending the Note to the iCloud account which the iPad is associated with.
In other words, an iPhone user can inadvertently have an email account other than the iCloud account designated as the "default" account associated with the Notes application on the iPhone, thus guaranteeing that the Note will not be sent to the iCloud account, thus causing syncing betweent the two devices to fail.
In my case, when I clicked on the Accounts button in the Notes app on my iPhone 4, I discovered three items: (1) All Notes.(2) The Name of an AOL email account. (3) iCloud. When I clicked on the arrow for All Notes, I saw all 39 Notes. When I clicked on the arrow for iCloud, I saw only 28 Notes. And when I clicked on the arrow for the AOL account, I found the 11 Notes that I had created on the iPhone that did not get synced to the iPad.
When I examined the Settings for the Notes app, I then discoved that my AOL had been checked off as the "Default Account." This incorrect selection was the cause of the whole problem! In order for Notes created on my iPhone to be sent to the cloud for subsequent syncing with my iPad and my Mac(s), I had to change that Default Account setting to my iCloud account.
As far as getting those missing 11 Notes to appear on the iPad so that all Notes on all devices would be in sync, I did a copy and paste job using the DiskAid application from DigiDNA, an application that allows you to transfer files and other data between your Mac and iOS devices. Using DiskAid, I simply viewed the contents of each Note, selected all the text, copied it, and pasted it in a new Note that I created in Safari while connected to my iCloud.com account. I suppose that one could do a copy and paste operation within the Notes app itself, by creating new Notes within it and copying the content of the Notes that were created in the non-iCloud account, before deleting those old, redundant Notes. But I found using DiskAid to be more elegant.
The thought of using a Windows application to bring my Notes up to date was never a temptation. You can get the job done entirely within the Mac environment. While DiskAid and its companion FileApp can do a great job of letting you access, view, and transfer your content from your iOS devices to the Mac, it is unfortunately not possible to copy back Notes that were transferred from one iOS device to a Mac back to another iOS device. Hence, I had to resort to the copy and paste operation on each Note one-by-one.

  • IOS6 and iphoto, iPad, Apple TV sync problem still unresolved. Turning on and off a few times have not helped. What should I do now? wait for an upgrade fix?

iOS6 and iphoto, iPad, Apple TV sync problem still unresolved. Turning on and off a few times per community advice have not helped. What should I do now? wait for an upgrade fix?
"&" is not the obvious bug/answer. Not sure what went wrong as I cannot select albums and events for sync. Situation is worse for iPad and Apple TV when error 1140 message popped up even before backup get completed.

Download and install the iPhoto 9.4.1 update, which was just released today. It may be the answer to your problems:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1598
Be sure that neither iTunes nor iPhoto is running when you install the iPhoto 9.4.1 update. After installing the update, then restart iTunes and iPhoto. By default, "All photos" is selected. Change this (it's no longer grayed out) to "Selected albums..." and you should be OK.

  • WHEN WILL THE MUSIC SYNCING BUG IN IOS7 BE FIXED?

WILL AN **APPLE REP** PLEASE REPLY ??
My library randomly skips songs after upgrading to IOS7.3.  This is probably not related to Mavericks, as Windows users are complaining about the same issue. I have tried ALL of the suggested fixes, wasting many hours of time needlessly dealing with this issue. The music syncing bug with IOS7 is completely unacceptable.
I have unsynced, re-synced, made a playlist with all of my tracks, done a full restore, and transferred purchases.  After it seemingly copies all of my songs over, it still skips random tracks when I shuffle my songs.  I then connect to iTunes, go to devices->transfer purchases, it copies the songs that were skipped, and then other songs skip.
THIS IS SOMETHING WHICH USED TO WORK AND NOW IS BROKEN.
There have been threads on this issue since at least October.  Why has this not been addressed ? Music playback is a core feature of IOS devices.  I have spent quite a bit of money actually buying music from Apple on my phone, and  cannot listen to it.  Is this just a ploy to force everyone to pay for iTunes Match (which would probably not work anyway?) I have been an Apple user for over 20 years, and this is really disconcerting.  I hate to say it, but if Steve Jobs were still around, heads would have rolled over this issue by this point.  All the pretty icons and UI tweaks in the world are less important than actual working functionality. What has become of AAPL ?

No, this is a user-to-user forum. If you want to speak to Apple Technical Support folks, you'll either need to make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or call them directly. Use the Contact Us link at the bottom right of every page.

  • Music and Photo Syncing Bugs in IOS7?

I have tried several times to sync my iPod to iTunes but I'm running into two significant issues:
    1) I have 947 songs on the playlist that I sync to the iPod. Comes to about 4.4 GB on my computer. However, when I hit sync, this happens:
Sometimes, a couple minutes after the sync is finished, it slides back to 4.45GB on the computer screen until I hit sync. The iPod still says it is taking 8.4 GB. The second I hit sync, the music bar slides up to 8.4 GB again.
I have tried pulling the music off and re-syncing it, but this still occurs. Removing the music also removed 3 GB of 'other' data which reappeared when the music was re-synced. I also am unable to load any new items onto my iPod because of space constraints, it seems to think the entire 8GB is taken, leaving me with 800 phantom songs/4GB phantom space taken.
This is not occurring with my iPad Mini, which is also synced to the same computer, music library, etc.
    2) The other syncing bug I have is approximately 3,000 phantom-ish pictures. They were synced to my iPod from iPhoto from my previous computer, which then suffered a hard drive failure. The photos are accessible on the iPod, but I can't seem to access them from my new computer, either through iPhoto or Image Capture. They both say there are no pictures on the iPod, even though there are. Anybody know any programs/tips to pull those photos?
Since I still haven't manage to pull the photos from my iPod since the hard drive failure, I am reluctant to wipe the iPod completely because I'd lose them. Any idea what's going on with my iPod? I'm up to date with software (iOS 7.1.2, iTunes 11.4, Mavericks)

To get synced photos off the iPod you need a third-party program. I know TouchCopy and Phone view work but do not know if the free iFunBox works.
    For your other problem:
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Can only sync photos by dropping folder on desktop - iPad won't sync photos

    Hi all,
I've been trying for a couple weeks now to sync photos to my iPad.
I'm running SL 10.6.2 and have updated to the latest iTunes. I have one hard drive that runs only my OS and my applications and I have a secondary drive that contains all my data including music, videos, photos, documents etc.
I have been able to repeatedly successfully sync apps, movies, music, and even a pages document to my iPad from the secondary drive through iTunes.
Every single time I have tried to sync photos it just seems to hang at the Sync in Progress screen for hours. I finally have to cancel because it's obvious the sync will not be successful. This happens whether I have one folder selected with just a dozen photos or several folders selected.
I am not using iPhoto. I'm simply choosing the folders with the images I'd like to sync from the Photos tab in iTunes when my iPad is connected.
Today I took one of the folders I was trying to sync containing 12 photos and dropped it on my desktop. The photos synced in seconds and iPad happily said sync complete. Any ideas?
Is this a quirk with SL 10.6.2, iTunes 9.1, or iPad?
It's not necessarily a huge issue that I have to move all the photos I want to sync to my main mac drive... but I just really didn't want to clutter my OS drive with data stuff... I prefer to keep them separate. Seems the only way I can sync photos right now, though, is to move them to the main mac drive... even though everything else syncs just fine from the secondary drive...
    Thanks for any help!
    ~ Angela

My wife bought an iPad Air and synced contact from our PC (Outlook), now all our contacts in Outlook have gone and we have to go to iCloud to get them, and even then they are a bit jumbled. How do I get my data back onto my PC?

If you can see the iCloud contacts in Outlook, you can copy them back to your PC by selecting all the contacts (click one, then press Control-A), then drag and drop the selected contacts to Contacts under My Contacts on the left sidebar of Outlook.
If you want to copy your calendar back to Outlook, select your iCloud calendar on the left sidebar of Outlook, switch to the list view (select View from the ribbon, then click Change View>List), select your events (click on a single event, then press Control-A), then control drag and drop them to Calendar under My Calendars on the left sidebar.
Then you can sign out of iCloud on the iCloud control panel and your local copies will still be there.  If you want to add your iCloud email account back to iCloud, you can do this with these settings: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864.

  • Ipad won't sync, tried everything

After installing IOS 7 AND the latest version of iTunes, my iPad stopped syncing with my computer. I get the "Your iPad did not sync because the sync session failed to start" message. I also get a "A required iTunes component is not installed. Please repair or reinstall iTunes. (142404)" message when initially starting iTunes. I have tried:
    - resetting Ipad
    - resetting Ipad to factory settings
    - reinstalling Itunes
    - installing an older version of iTunes
    - Anti-virus/ anti-spyware scans using several programs
    - Pulling out strands of my hair
Two more things of note: 1. I am able to sync my old 2nd generation iPod Nano with no issues. 2. Using a program called SyncIOS also will not sync with the iPad.
I am running Windows 7 Professional on my laptop with all updates installed.
    Any help is appreciated, thanks!
