Ipad Glass

Have a small unexpected crack in the glass of the my Ipad2.  Can it be replaced and if so where and what woudl it cost?  Also my Ipad2 does not play volume when connected to an HDMI TV with the HDMI adapter that was purchases with the Ipad2.  It did but it doesn't anymore.  Why?

Here's three views of the taperred acrylic stands in the Apple stores. At about six inches in diam., they are concave on the top, with a silicon ring on the top edge to control slippage. They could as easily have been made from wood, metal, or molded plastic.
And they are at a very comfortable angle for typing.

Given the complexity in merely getting the thing open, that is likely. Or they forgot to reconnect it. See #14  and from #52 on down in: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing+iPad+2+GSM+Bluetooth-Wi-Fi+Antenna/6166/1

How much does it cost to replace the Ipad glass? Min and Max?

Apple does not repair iPads, but will replace the entire iPad for a flat fee. If you have AppleCare+ on the iPad, the cost will be relatively minimal; $49 in the US. Otherwise, see the Service Pricing section here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/service/faq/
There are independent iPad repair services that may be able to replace the screen for less. Do a web search for "ipad repair".  You can also look for parts and instructions and do the repair yourself. Note, though, that if you elect to have the iPad serviced by an unauthorized shop or perform your own repair, you will get no further support from Apple.
    Regards.
Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Communities page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic, both in the relevant forums and in the Apple Knowledge Base, before you post a question.

How much does it cost to replace ipad glass?

Apple doesn't have a repair program just for the glass (although if you search the internet, you might find one, but it's not easy).
    See here. http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipad
It'll cost you $219 for a repair, they just give you a refurbished one. Of course, a new iPad Mini is only $299.

Apple's Limited Warranty http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/ for iPad excludes coverage for damage resulting from accident, disassembly, unauthorized service and unauthorized modifications.
The warranty will apply to the country of purchase. And if there is a problem needing repair you have to return it to the country of purchase.

(The replacement will most likely be a refurbished iPad in a brown box, however, it has a new screen, back and battery.)

  • How strong is the iPad glass?

While inspecting my iPad, my cousin pressed on the glass too hard than I would have liked on the black band region near the Home Button. He later explained that he thought the dark region was a hard case of some sort and wanted to see how hard the case was. There was not a crack or any noticeable damage. I know that the glass can break if the iPad is dropped from a certain height, I just wanted to ask if there anyone knows how easy it is to damage the glass with excessive pressure from fingers/hands. While I certainly wont be trying replicate it, I saw a video where some researchers in Japan tested the durability of the glass by hand-pressing on it. Maybe I'm just being paranoid or protective with a new gadget?

    Hi,
Get a case for your iPad. That will help protect it.
If you damage the iPad hardware by "testing"... you could void the one year limited warranty not to mention permanently damage the iPad.
Get the iPad Apple Case here.
I saw a video where some researchers in Japan tested the durability of the glass by hand-pressing on it
Apple would never suggest that you "test" the glass by hand-pressing on it.

  • Cracked iPad glass

I dropped my iPad a minuted ago on the tile and cracked pretty much around the outer edge of the glass. I read that you could take it into apple and they would replace the glass for you free of charge. Is this true? Everyone posting was also in the states and I am currently living in Italy. There is an apple store close by but figured I would ask before I took the train into down.
If apple does not what is my best option for getting it replaced that reliable? Regardless if it's in Italy or the states.
    Thanks!

  • IPad glass broken. How much does it cost to fix.

I've cracked the glass on my iPad. How much dipoles it cost to fix?

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5 and 5C. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:

  • Is Jot Script Stylus safe on iPad glass?

I was looking for a decent stylus that I can use with my new iPad Air and found Jot Script Stylus. I am a student of maths and physics, so i'll be taking notes and writing formulextensively

Jot designed it for use with the iPad, so yes, it should be safe. It has a plastic tip that, assuming it remains undamaged, should cause no problems with an iPad's screen. You'll need to make sure it works with the apps you wish, of course.
No need to post multiple times minutes apart, by the way. These aren't live chat forums, so post once, have patience, and someone will usually respond within a short time, though depending on the question a reply may not come for a few hours.
    Regards.

  • Ipad glass accidently craked

Hi I accidently dropped and cracked my ipad screen. It is working and charging. it is ipad 3. I brought it in US in Aug’ 13 and I am in India. I don’t have international warranty.  Can you suggest some way to replace the screen.

As soon as you dropped the iPad and the screen cracked, the warranty was void.

  • How to change glass iPad 2?

My iPad glass window cracked. How to change it?

    DO NOT DO IT YOURSELF.
Go into a local Apple retail store, set up an appointment, and get it replaced, or you can go to a specific technology glass replace (if you can find one)

  • Quality of iPad 2 glass?

I fell asleep whilst reading kindle on my iPad 2, and woke to find my iPad had fallen off the bed and had cracked from one corner of the screen spreading through the screen. I have had it for less than 2 months and I am extremely disappointed in the quality of apple.I look after my things and even have a protective case, and the height of the fall was not high. Is this the quality of apple? Is the screen not supposed to have some gorilla glass? I find it pointless to design something so light and multi functional but have such poor sustainability. If I read a hardcover book in bed and it fell, it wouldn't brake.
My retailer says they have to charge me to fix it due to negligence.no 1 I don't feel I was being negligent and secondly the repair costs are outrageous. Everything else is working normally though... Just a broken screen.

  • I have dropped my iPad3 and the glass shattered what should i do

I tripped and fell, my iPad glass shattered. It still workes though. What are my options? the Apple store will not repair it, just replace it for $299., Why can't they repair it. Are there any authorized dealers to repair it?

Did you buy apple care plus? If so, then they will fix it with a $49 service fee.
If you didn't, then yeah, you're on your own. Broken screens are considered 'accidental damage' and not covered under any warranty.
You can go to the Apple store and pay their price.....which is really a fee to exchange your broken one with a refurbished replacement. On the upside, you keep your warranty. Unauthorized repairs are cheaper, however using any of them will void any remainder of your factory warranty. Anything that goes wrong, even if it's not related to the glass breakage, will be attributed to the glass breakage.
