I use both yahoo & gmail on ipad.
yahoo mail is worked without fault for 18months on ipad.
gmail is an enduring mystery and I have wasted countless hours trying to figure out inconsistencies between its behaviour on my PC and on ipad.
Latest instalment for example:
1. Changed gmail password on PC.
2. gmail on ipad would not then work.
3. gmail on ipad via browser would not accept new password that had been set on PC
4. I did a password reset request on ipad via browser and received password change link on my yahoo (recovery) email
5. Using link I reset gmail password on ipad
6. The alternate email recovery address was blank - even though I had entered an alternate recovery address on this gmail on PC.
7. Tried adding the same alternate recovery email address as already entered on PC and it gave error - already in use on another account !
8. gmail now OK on ipad and via browser on ipad.
9. new password set on ipad now works on pc.
I am in the process of clearing out and closing my gmail account but need to use it until I have notified everyone of new address.In the meantime can anyone tell me if this is a known bug or just a feature?

You can do either, access the webmail Gmail through Safari, or another iPad browser, or configure the Mail app to access your Gmail account. Gmail in Safari on the iPad is not the same as in a browser on the computer. Gmail obviously has a mobile device version that presents to Safari on the iPad. Whether you accessed your account in Safari or with the Mail app, you will have a new environment to learn.

Changing iPad gmail view to show inbox only

Sorry to bug, but this is frustrating and searching here and online isn't turning up what I'm looking for.
Just purchased a refurbished iPad 3 and downloaded the Gmail App.
Is there a way to get a 'full screen' view of my inbox on the iPad Gmail App?
I want the default view to be my inbox, similar to how it appears on my normal Mac. However, I'm getting some sort of side inbox, which as I scroll down, opens whatever message I tap on a window on the right.

In your select statement, why not use a case statement, so that when there is no value in the signed off person, you can insert what ever value you like into that field.

Thse forums are littered with threads from folks who would disagree with you that these outside accounts work seemlessly with iOS devices.
I have a Gmail and a Hotmail account. I configured both of them to forward mail to my iCloud account. That works seamlessly and my iOS devices are staying within the ecosystem and not having to constantly negitiate with the other mail servers.

If she is using the mail app, there doesn't appear to be a way to sync contacts directly with gmail. You might see if there is a way to export to a Mac desktop and then to use iTunes to sync the contacts to the iPad. Otherwise the contacts will have to be manually added to the iPad. Another option would be to use gmail's web based mail. Her contacts should be available from there.

IPad Gmail problem

After updating my iPad to v. 4.3.3 my Gmail account won't let me open Word docs or PDFs. Have re-started iPad, have used more than one web browser - same problem. Any suggestions? Thank in advance!

I have my official email using google apps, i have created the email address account on the ipad and already downloading all these emails on my laptop using Microsoft Outlook 2007.
The issue i am facing is that an email that is downloaded on ipad and read also, doesn't seem to be downloading on my laptop. Wherein the vica-versa is fine, if an email downloaded on the laptop, i can still download the same on the ipad becuase in my outlook settings i have mentioned "Leave message on server".
In the ipad email account setting also i had said never to delete an account, but still those emails aren't coming to my laptop.
Please help ... as i need the emails downloaded on the ipad next time I log on from the office computer.

Settings, (mail,contacts,calendar), click on Gmail Account, click on Advanced, click on Move Discarded Messages Into: Deleted Mailbox. Verify that when you click on Archive Mailbox that it has "All Mail" checked.

All I had to do was complain. I synced my iPhone to the Windows machine, checked the other account at iTunes prompting (where no apps had shown up previously), reconnected the iPad, and 140 apps downloaded including the App Store. I have no idea why.

IPad Gmail Issue

I am unable to connect to my Gmail account using the Mail app on my home network, however I am able to connect just fine at work. It tells me it is unable to connect to the server so I am assuming that some settings need to be changed on my Time Capsule. Maybe some ports that need to be opened up? Anybody have any ideas on what I need to do?

I have been able to set up another e-mail address through the Mail App on my iPad (Comcast e-mail) so it doesn't look like the setting on my Time Capsule are the issue. It appears to be the Comcast server preventing me from connecting with the Gmail server. I called Comcast and they told me it doesn't look like I will be able to connect to the Gmail Server which I don't believe. Anybody else able to connect to their Gmail account on the Mail App while using Comcast Internet? What did you have to do to make it work?

IMAP fo Gmail on iPad

I have enabled IMAP in Gmail settings but get "The mail server "imap.gmail.com" is not responding" in the iPad Gmail account.
Have deleted and re done the account several times.
Baffled.... Any ideas?

Solution is to log in to your google account and then go to security Tab. Choose app passwords and generate a specific password for ipad or iphone mail. you then replace your standard password in mail settings on ios with the 16 digit password Generated by google.
This problem is because two step verification cannot be used on ios mail. I've just got mine working without having to set up a different account or changing to exchange.

Just bought an ipad 3, having trouble setting up my gmail.

I've been trying to set up gmail on my ipad 3. I know my username and password are correct, but it keeps telling me they're not. The Google help site said to make sure IMAP is turned on, and I did that. Any ideas? I've tried all kinds of things from different sites.

I know nothing about Gmail, but are you familar with the 2 step authentication? Could that be the issue? I have seen it mentioned but have no clue as to what it is.

Sometimes when you are having problems setting up an email account on the iPad, you are better off deleting the account and starting all over again.

Why is Outgoing mail from my iPad not appearing in Outlook 2010?

I have set my iPad to synch with my gmail account. In turn my gmail account downlaods and synchs with Outlook 2010 on my Windows 7 PS.
Everything works except that when I send mail from my iPad or reply to incoming mail from my iPad, my replies, whilst synchronising with my gmail account, and showing in the Sent folder in gmail, do not download to Outlook.
If I log into gmail (from my email or via Safari) and send mail direct from gmail these messagesshow in the Sent box and DO show in iPad gmail outbox and Outlook, though they show in the Outlook inbox!
So the only mail that gets stuck in gmail and won't download to Outlook is outgoing mail sent from gmail in my iPad.
I can work around this by sending a bcc to myself of every outgoing message I send from iPad. In this case the Send copy shows up in the Sent folder in gmail and does not download to Outleook but the bcc copy arrives in nthe Inbox in gmail and does download to Outlook. Its ugly but works.
A proper fix would be better - does anyone have any ideas?

For Exchange GMail there is a way to set your iOS device to use a different "Send As" name than when using a computer. Unfortunately in your case, you can set your computer to send an alternate name but the iOS device can only send the default GMail name, which is the name associated with your account. Ideally, you would like your iOS device to use the alternate and let your computer use the default.
But if you want to play around with this ...
1- On the iOS device itself, use Safari to navigate to m.google.com/sync. You will have to log in at the prompt with your GMail account info.
2- Select the iOS device name (in case you have multiple iOS devices using Google sync).
3- Select "Enable 'Send Mail As' for this device" and Save the changes.
4- Using a computer, log into your GMail account and select Settings/ Accounts and Import, then at the "Send mail as" prompt select "edit info" (off to the right).
5- Change your outgoing name.
The name you specify in #5 will be used by your computer, but the iOS device will continue using the original (default) outgoing name. You can see why you need the opposite in your case, so unless you can change the default to be your wife's name and then set the alternate to be your name, I think you're out of luck.

Update of Mail app (Version 7.3) on OS X 10.9.4- no sublabels from Gmail

Gmail sub labels don't show anymore, but still show on iPhone and iPad (Gmail settings are all set to Show labels, but no specific option for sub labels) - this only happened after update, nothing was changed on Gmail settings (checked only afterwards). How do I show sub labels of the 'All Mail' folder (Gmail) in Mail app again?

You downloaded a beta copy of 7.1 because the current version is 7.0.5. There was a mixup yesterday and 7.1 was accidentally made available for downloading. Do you have a backup you can restore from to get 7.0.5?
You can also try running the combo update to see if it will restore it.

I've been having issues using my gmail account on the mail app, and they have persisted even since the recent update. Sometimes, mail that I read on another device (iphone/iPad/gmail.com) and then either delete or move to all mail will still appear in my inbox on the mac Mail app. I try to synchronize the account and quit and relaunch mail but this doesn't work. the only thing which TEMPORARILY helps is removing the account all together and the re-adding it, but after a while the sync gets out of whack again. Its hard to say exactly, but I believe this is mostly for mail i sent to All Mail rather than delete. I have two gmail accounts and they both have this issue. I did notice the mail app had created a label called Archive which I removed on my gmail settings b/c I kept confusing it with Gmail's own All Mail label. I don't see why this would cause the problem, especially since the last Mail update is suppossed to fix issues for users with custom Gmail settings, but i'm not sure. Anyone else having these issues? Can anyone shed any light on this? It's becoming very frustrating!
