IPad hacked via WIFI?

Folks, my mom uses a 3rd gen iPad, often in public WIFI hotspots, such as the Lightrail or at her place of work (The Tech) in San Jose.
Yesterday, she found that her iPad had a different background image; one that she didn't photograph and one that she certainly didn't put there herself. Coincidence or not, on that trip back home, she was asked by a fellow Lightrail rider what she thought of her iPad and that he had tons of great photos on his.
I suggested that perhaps someone at work thought it would be funny to change the background picture and somehow got hold of her iPad while she was manning a station, but she insists that the device is always within reach, so that wouldn't have been possible.
I guess this is something I haven't thought of before, because I use a Macbook on the road (which has a firewall), but: how vulnerable is an iPad on a public Wifi hotspot? Does the thing have some sort of firewall protection or is it "wide open" and ready to accept commands from someone that has it's IP on that network?
Thank

Might this image have been one of the Apple-provided ones? It's certainly possible that the iPad would have lost that setting for some reason - perhaps, for example, the previous background image was a photo in her photo stream, and it was removed from there - and reverted to another image.
It's very unlikely, nearly to the point of impossibility, that someone remotely hacked her iPad. There is no currently known technique for doing that. Hacking an iPad isn't that hard, but you need physical access to the iPad to do it.
One thing that can sometimes look like hacking is if someone has gained access to the Apple ID associated with the iPad. This can result in changes being made remotely, even though there's really no direct access to the iPad. Although there's no way to change the background image remotely on an iPad using access to the Apple ID, it could explain where the previous background image went, if it's no longer present on the iPad. If you suspect this could be the case, have your mom change her Apple ID password immediately.

  • Itunes 12. I can not see my ipad / iphone via WiFi

Itunes 11 was upgraded to itunes 12 without a warning. Now, side bar is lost and IN ADDITION ()  I don´t see my ipad / iphone via wifi. How can I reset sichronization ?
How can I DOWNGRADE to itunes 11 ?

Yes. Reinstall iTunes. If that is the point at which you stopped trying the support suggestions then it makes sense to me, that you move on to the next suggestion and if reinstalling iTunes is the next suggestion, so be it.
However ....  I too have issues that arise out of the blue with my iPad being recognized in iTunes and what I always do and it eventually works is to quit iTunes, restart my MacBook, and reboot my iPad.
Rebooting the iPad is the last thing that I do and only if I have no success with quitting iTunes and restarting the Mac. It may take a few tries to work, but if you are that dead set against reinstalling iTunes, then give it a try.

  • Way to stream March Madness TV from iphone 3gs to iPad 1 via wifi or cable?

I would like basketball on a bigger (iPad)screen. I do not have access to TV at work. I can't tether because of the high data usage. I only want the iPhone's video signal I am already getting to get to (mirror on) the iPad. Any thoughts. THX

You are right, if necessary I will pay
Just was hoping to find something like Air Video that could send video or mirror video from the phone to the pad. Now that you mention it, maybe I could use software that puts my iphone screen on my MacBook (i know that exists)and just zoom the image to fill the laptop screen....tada....big screen.....thx for your reply

  • When connecting ipad to iPhones personal hotspot via wifi it is showin up as 2 connections when only 1 device is connected. Is someone hacking my phone?

When connecting ipad to my iPhones personal hotspot via wifi it is showin up as 2 connections when only 1 device is connected. Is someone hacking my phone? I only figured out I had a problem when my partner did the exact same set up and it showed up as only 1 device connected. I have changed the password and turned it off/on and etc. the really weird thing is now when my ipad is turned off and I turn my iphone personal hotspot on it shows up with 1 connection (when I don't have anything connected) for about 5 secs and then goes off and then 1 device connected for about 5 secs and then back off. This just keeps going on and off. What is going on. Could my phone have a bug or be hacked. Please help as it is kinda freaking me out. Thanks.

    Hello asrt17,
This may occur if your iPhone is connected to your computer via USB, as it will automatically share the connection via USB.
    iOS: Troubleshooting Personal Hotspot
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2756
When Personal Hotspot is enabled, your iOS device automatically shares your Internet connection with your computer when connected using USB.
Example: When you connect iPhone to your computer to charge or sync with iTunes. To avoid unnecessary data charges, turn off Personal Hotspot when not in use.
    Cheers,

What router are you using? make/model/version
What security type are you using? If it is WEP then symbolic (non hex) keys may be converted to hex in different ways by different operating systems. Is your laptop a Windows PC?
If you are using WEP then drop it and move to WPA2. WEP has been deprecated by the WiFi alliance since 2004 as insecure (it can be hacked in seconds).

  • How do I set up LiveRig or TouchOSC with Mainstage 2.2.2? Both apps send signals but none are received by Mainstage and both the ipad 3 (6.1) and macbook pro (10.7.5) see each other via WIFI?

As I said before both app's send signals but none are received by Mainstage and both the ipad 3 (6.1) and macbook pro (10.7.5) see each other via WIFI on the network set up, which I think I did right. I have tried MIDI Disigner and Mainstage shows MIDI activiti, what can I be doing wrong?
    Thanx in advance.

I agree anti-relay can be using UBE feature. However, there is serious problem in reject the spam mail. My nms is using UBE feature to stop spam mail. According to the work flow of the UBE, the mail is received by nms completely and UBE is going to invesgate the mail address. Although UBE can stop the spam mail, the spam mail have a trouble in returning the mail to the sender. The reason is the sender address is usually not existed in the world. That will cause a lot of mail waiting in the mail queue.
In my experience, do not use UBE for anti-relay.

  • Syncing multiple iPhones/iPads/iPods for different users via WiFi on a single computer?

So my wife and I each have an iPhone running iOS 7.0.3 (11B511), she has an iPad (iOS 7, but unsure of the exact release), and my son has an iPod (also iOS 7, but unsure of the exact release).  I've also have a Mac mini running Mac OS X 10.9 (13A603) with Server 3.0 (13S440) and iTunes 11.1.3 (8) 64-bit.  I'd like us each to be able to sync any of our devices via WiFi when we're at home.  We each have accounts on the server with thier own iTunes Libraries and associated with thier own iTunes Store accounts.
I've seen posts that explain how to sync multiple devices to a single account with a single library, and I've seen posts that explain how to sync different devices to different libraries under different users when each is the only user running iTunes at the time.  Is there a way to allow each user to sync whenever they please without having to have the other users log out of iTunes, log themselves in, and then sync?
It sounds like, from what I've learned so far, that multiple users running iTues is not (or at least used to not) be enough to make this work.  I'm looking for a definitive answer here though, not a guess that it can't be done based on previous versions or speculation.  If you're not sure but want to share your thoughts and theories only, please indicate as much in your response.  Thanks.

    Welcome to AD!
Here is an article on using multiple ipods. I suggest method 1 and steer clear of method 3.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495
For your point #1, sharing music on same PC between users, put it in a shared library & set permissions as directed here
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203
For #2, itunes doesn't have the capability to monitor folders for new content. You'll need to get something like the free program 'itunes folder watch'.

  • ITunes cannot recognize iPhone/iPad via WiFi Sync following motherboard change

    Hi folks,
I'm having a problem with synchronising my iPhone (and iPad) to iTunes on Windows 7 Home Premium via WiFi sync.
This never used to be a problem - both devices would be identified by iTunes (occasionally this was sporadic, however a simple WiFi off/on would usually solve the problem).
I have recently upgraded my motherboard and CPU in my Windows 7 PC and after updating some drivers, etc. all of a sudden, I cannot connect to WiFi Sync anymore. I can still synchronise my devices via the cable - i.e. the devices are correctly identified by the PC, but for some reason post the motherboard change, as soon as I pull the plug out of the device, the device disappears from iTunes.
I can confirm that the "Synchronise this device via WiFi sync" tick boxes are checked, and the Machine Name is the same, so my iPhone is still looking for the same PC.
I'm wondering if because of the motherboard change, there is an internal signature that the iPhone/iPad looks for that is no longer the same.
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing iTunes to no avail. I cannot seem to find any solution to this problem - no matter what I do, iTunes will simply not recognise my devices over WiFi anymore.
    Welcome any advice or thoughts.
    System details:
    - Intel i7 2700K (Upgraded from Intel i3 550)
    - ASUS P8Z68-M Pro (Upgraded from an ASUS P7H55-M/USB3
    - iPhone 4S
    - iPad 2
    - Windows 7 Home Premium
    Cheers,
    Mike.

    Folks,
I thought I should post a follow up - in case any Apple Support people scour these forums.
The problem seems to have resolved by itself, which is both a good and bad thing.
I made absolutely no changes last night, not even a system reboot, to launch iTunes today and the system miraculously discover both my iPhone 4S and my iPad 2. I think this highlights a broader problem is that the WiFi sync capability is inconsistent and very difficult to troubleshoot. I have no idea why it has all of a sudden started working, especially when I have changed no wireless, networking, firewall or Anti Virus settings.
Anyway thank you to those who had a read, and I wish I could provide more insight on why it has started working all of a sudden, and importantly, what caused it to stop working.
Perhaps it is simply like two people - the new PC and its motherboard needed to 'get to know' the devices before it felt comfortable in allowing a connection .
I have no other more rational explanation!
    Cheers all,
    Mike.

  • Synchronize iPad to Imac via WIFI

Hi guys, I know that is possible synchronize iPad/iPhone with Mac via WIFI but I´m not able to do. It say that iPad must be connect to electicity and on the same WIFI of the Mac. After checking this, the button Synchronize on mi iPad is always greyed out and so I can´t click on it.
    Any idea?
    Thanks a lot

First of all - the instructions that you are referring to are for Automatic Syncing with iTunes via WiFi. I sync my iPad every day via WiFi with the iPad sitting on the coffee table and NOT plugged into power. I also do not auto sync - I initiate the sync on my own.
You need to set it up for WiFi syncing within iTunes first.
Connect the iPad to your Mac and launch iTunes. Let it sync if you auto sync. Then click on the iPad name on the left side under devices. Click on the Summary Tab in iTunes on the right. Click on the option to Sync this iPad over Wifi. Click on the Apply button in the lower right corner of iTunes and then eject the iPad.
Now try to sync via WiFi. See if the Sync option is active now in the iPad settings. Make sure that iTunes is running on the Mac as well.
If you are still stuck - read this for more information.

A website will open via wifi but not via 3G. Is this a setting on the iPad?

Probably not.  How's your 3G connection?  I ask because I've had issues when the 3G connection isn't strong.  Same with WiFi too, actually.
