IPad Hard Reset - Is 3.2.1 different?

I just recently installed a native iPhone app on my iPad 64gb + 3G, but it was horribly buggy, and would crash constantly. At one point, it locked up ios, and I was forced to do a hard reset of the iPad.
I have never hard reset the iPad prior to this occasion, which is why this was so strange; In performing the hard reset (sleep/wake button + home button) as I have done on my iPhone, the screen displayed the red "swipe" to turn off the device, and then went to a black screen. The usual silver Apple did not appear, and the screen went black after still holding for about 30 seconds.
Called a few friends that had iPads, and here was the result:
16gb WiFi (3.2) - Silver Apple (SA)
64gb W+3G (3.2.1) - Black (B)
16gb W+3G (3.2.1) - SA
32gb WiFi (3.2.1) - SA
and mine...
64gb W+3G (3.2.1) - B
I tried doing a restore from iTunes: black screen... Recovery mode restore: black screen...
Then after reading a few forum posts, I tried the DFU mode restore, and I was able to get the Silver Apple.
Was it the 3.2.1 update? An app (unlikely)? Or, a corrupt backup?
After the DFU mode and restore, and the result is: Black Screen
Is this a result of a corrupt backup, or something that went wrong during a sync, and should this even matter, as long as I can power the iPad down after holding the two buttons down?
What does your iPad do?

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect to your computer & click on the "Update your device using iTunes".
Tip - You may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update.

  • Is an iPad hard reset required to change my mail setup?

    My situation is this. I have domain-managed email forwarded to a Gmail account. On Gmail, the domain-managed address is the default address used for all transactions. When I bought my iPad, I set up one mail account, type Gmail, signing in with the Gmail address/password, but set up so as to allow "send as" from the domain-managed address. This type of setup works fine on my iPad, my iPhone, and, for that matter, my MacBookPro.
    Now, I'm thinking of removinv Google as the "middleman" and dealing directly and strictly with my domain host's mail server. All is well except for one final question. My hosting company's instructions for iPad setup include the warning, "Warning for iPad users: If you have already setup your email incorrectly, you cannot simply update the settings to be correct. Instead, you need to fully delete the account from the iPad, perform a hard reset, and recreate the entire account with the proper settings." It seems to me they might mean by "if you have already setup your mail incorrectly", the sort of setup I currently have!
    I surely would appreciate confirmation or denial from a guru or geek among you as to whether a hard reset is truly required in my case. This would be a grievous hassle for both iOS devices!

    1. A reset is not required.
    2. A reset is not a hassle.  It takes maybe a minute and nothing is changed.

  • IPad not responding after hard reset

    My iPad 2 is not responding normally, voice assistance has turned on automatically, I need to triple tap icons to open, and the device is generally operating slowly. I have tried a hard reset, but the issue remains and I can't seem to find the reset function in the general menu settings. Anyone else experienced similar problems. Any assistance greatly appreciated?

    If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup).
    If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.
    You may have to force iPad/iPod into Recovery Mode

  • Device: iPad 2. Problem: since iOS 7.0.2 upgrade I can't open iTunes Store. I've done hard reset to no avail. Everything else works fine! What's the safe fix?

    Is anyone having trouble opening ITunes Store on IPad 2 (or other apple devices) since the latest upgrade? Mine worked for about five minutes after upgrade, and then it would not open up any longer giving me the message: "CANNOT CONNECT TO STORE"I, but I can connect to the Apps store. I synced my devices. I have latest soft wear updates on my PC and IPad. Everything worked fine before upgrade. I did a hard reset. My wifi connection was checked and rechecked. I had enough storage at the time of the upgrade. I'm not computer savvy, so please speak computer for dummies language should you be so kind to respond. Thank you in advance.

    Hello LDinaz,
    Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with the iTunes Store on your iPad 2.  For the issue you are experiencing, I recommend signing out and back into the iTunes Store on your iPad 2:
    Changing your Apple ID account
    Tap Settings > iTunes & App Stores, then tap the Apple ID signed in.
    Sign out of the current Apple ID account and then sign in with another account or create a new Apple ID.
    The last step states to sign in with another account, but for the situation you described, I recommend just signing in with your same Apple ID.
    You can find the full article here:
    iOS: Changing the signed-in iTunes Store Apple ID account
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1311
    If the issue persists after signing out and back in, I recommend following the iOS steps in the section titled "Isolate the issue: (Mac OS X, Windows, iOS)" in the following article (you can skip any steps you have already taken):
    iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting

    VPN-User,
    Ok - I see the list of issues and will ensure our X300 specialist takes a look at it.
    Please do understand that while you have put together a very coherent list, I try to ensure priority to threads in which multiple customers are focused on a single issue, as we deliver the most benefit to the community in working on those.   This forum is primarly a peer to peer discussion forum rather than a Lenovo chat / tech support where we try to solve each and every issue put forth.
    Individuals with a long list of issues on a particular machine may find benefit from either contacting technical support and working through their list, or publishing it as you have done and wait for other users of the same system to share their experiences.

  • My ipad quit backing up and it cannot find the file.  I tried putting on another computer after a hard reset but it says it cannot back up there either.

    My ipad quit backing up because it cannot find the file.  I have tried a restore and hard reset and adding itunes to another computer and putting it on there but it still will cannot add the ipad to the new computer and back up.  I have an iPad (not iPad 2) and 5.01 OS.  It appears that my iPad is not fully fuctional since I updated to the new OS which is when my ipad stopped backing up.  I lost data too and some apps don't work anymore.

    Have you previously synced photos to the iPad, as that occasionally causes the 'missing file' error. If so then try deleting the photo cache from your computer and then re-try backing up - the location of the cache, and how to delete it, is on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314.
    In terms of apps not working, if it's happening on all the apps that you've downloaded from the App Store, but not the Apple built-in ones, then try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted.
    If it's happening on all apps then try closing them all completely and then see if they work when you re-open them : from the home screen (i.e.not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
    If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Just got a new IPAD3, straight out of the box, but I cant charge it, I have tried with the power plug and cable out of the box but no joy, i have tried resetting the iPad but still no joy, have tried different plug sockets, different plugs/cables, help

    Just got a new IPAD3, straight out of the box, but I cant charge it, I have tried with the power plug and cable out of the box that came with it but no joy, i have tried resetting the iPad but still no joy, have tried different mains plug sockets around the house with no joy, I have tried different USB mains plugs but again no joy, I tried using my new iPad cable into the USB port of my MacBook Pro laptop but still no joy, then, I tried using my old iPod classic cable into my MacBook Pro and that worked, so I have a way of charging my new iPad3 but its not practical as i have to take my MacBook Pro everywhere if I want to charge it which kind of defeats the object of having an iPad, has anybody experienced anything similar and how was it fixed? can anybody help me please...

    Grumpy Gator,
    Please note it did say at the store's discretion, but people have actually been able to return it to the on-line store. (I only saw a couple who tried.)
    And given the outcry, I would think Apple might have other Apple stores join in. Just in case, though, if you can, you might bring it in today.
    If it's an ARS, my guess is they can stick to their 14 day return. Apple cannot force them to do it. SO if it's not bought directly from Apple, and it's past the 14 day deal, I'd bring it in to the store today if you have one. When I gave people the cnet.com site, I gave it so people could read it and know only Apple had made the decision for Apple. And I suggested to some that an Apple reseller would probably stick with their own return policy.
    Because Arnie had just bought his, he should be able to return it to Apple or an ARS because an ARS has to have some kind of full refund or at least return for credit within 7 or 14 days of purchase.
    Hope this helps.

    My son let one of his friends use his ipad. The next time he tired to use it he could not get it unlocked, I tired to unlock it but it kept telling me that I had the wrong pass code. With out me knowing my son continued to tire until it completely disabled it self.

    You may have to do this several times.
    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.

    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
  • IPad mini, the sound wont come out through the earphones the 2nd tym around,... other than the time consuming hard reset, any solution guys ...please?
    i saw there is a new iOS version for the iPad mini, could this new version be a solution to the problem in question, i'm always on the move thats why i havent updated yet, but if the update solves the problem i will update asap.
    Jimhdk I meant... Say I just did a hard reset the sound comes out of the earphones upon inserting them into the jack but should I remove them from the jack for any reason the sound will continue to come out of the main speakers after re-insertion of the earphones. The sound will continue to come out of the main speakers until I hard reset again.
    Demo, so it's not necessary for me to update for my wifi is bug-less.
  • Ipad keeps freezing .... Even after hard reset . . . Reset back to factory . . Etc.    is it dead?
    Ipad keep freezing up ?? Even after all the resets . .  Etc.  am I toast ?
    "so I did a hard reset, tried to restore it. But not I cannot not even open my iPad"
    Just to reiterate what Tedfixit said - I would book an appointment at the Genius Bar as well. If you restored it and it is still acting up, the device should be evaluated.
  • How do I do a hard reset on my ipad.  It's locked with a passcode., How do I do a hard reset on my ipad.  It's locked with a passcode.
    I forgot my passcode, how do I do a HARD RESET to clear everything out?
    A hard reset will not help you now. That won't work and it won't "clear everything out".
    You have to restore the device within iTunes. You want to use the same computer that you always sync with so that you can restore your app data and settings. You can restore with any other computer, but you will lose everything on the iPad.
    You will probably have to use recovery mode
  • IPad is acting very strange, also after hard reset. No sliding to open possible.
    It all started with my iPad doing things on its own, opening and closing apps, starting music, skipping songs and opening photo's. All without me push any buttons, so I did a hard reset, tried to restore it. But not I cannot not even open my iPad, when I try sliding to open, it i not working at all. Not even after another hard reset and new configuration. Some kind op virus seems to have caused damage. Any advice on what to do next? I am clueless,
    Your help would be highly appreciately.
  • Ipad 2 keeps requiring hard reset
    I am having a problem with the iPad 2 that requires me to do a hard reset to get the iPad to come back on. This has happened 3 to 4 times now and I've only had it roughly 3 weeks. Last night it was low on power (10%) and when I went to wake it up it wouldn't come on. I thought a process must have drained it so I put it on the dock and went to bed. I woke up this morning and it still would not wake up. I held the sleep and home button down for a few seconds and got the apple logo. When it came on it didn't charge although it's been charging on the dock all night. Anyone else seeing this happen with their iPad 2 on 4.3?
    Went back to the Apple store and this time the agent was able to do an normal diagnostics (which, by the way is pretty cool how they do it over the internet). The last agent that helped me couldn't run a proper diagnostics because 'the networ was down'. The diagnostics said I was running low on memory a lot and the agent looked at all the apps I had running in the background (lots!!) and showed me how to close them after no longer using them. But he also noticed that the time my iPad had saved for being used and sleeping were identical so he concluded it was a hardware issue and promptly exchanged the ipad! That was pretty awesome too. Overall I'm still very happy I bought an iPad
  • Please I just got an iPad 3 and it keeps restarting itself. How do I stop this. Done hard reset and system reset.
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    You will probably need to restore using Recovery Mode.
    iPad: Unable to update or restore
    Recovery Mode Instructions
    Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    Turn off iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for iPad to turn off.
    If you cannot turn off iPad using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the iPad turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
    While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPad. When you reconnect the USB cable, iPad should power on.
    Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
    If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the recovery mode alert that iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode.
    Use iTunes to restore iPad.
  • Just got the LG G2 and it will not allow me to upload pictures to FB. I can send and receive picture messages via texting but that is it. I've tried a hard reset twice, I've uninstalled FB and reinstalled it, and I've tried uploading it 3 different ways--
    I've tried a hard reset twice, I've uninstalled FB and reinstalled it, and I've tried uploading it 3 different ways--through my photo editor app, through the gallery, and through the FB app. Nothing works. Any suggestions? My Wi-Fi connection is great....
    Really sounds like you are doing it right, but the FB app is notorious for being buggy after each update, which is fairly frequent. Try to upload via the FB webpage in Chrome on the phone. You can try the mobile or desktop verion of the page by tapping menu settings in the browser. Its a little different but it'll let you know if its the app or the phone.
