IPad hidden fees/roaming in Italy??

I plan to purchase an iPad to take with me to Italy, as it's lighter than a laptop. Will there be any hidden fees or issues if I do this?

That's something you will have to ask your cellular service provider, assuming you're talking about a 3G iPad with an active cellular data service.  If you're talking about a wifi-only iPad, that costs you nothing other than any costs (if any) associated with whatever wireless networks you are able to connect to in Italy.

Can an ipad bought US function in Italy

If you have a Wi-Fi or an AT&T iPad, then they should both function well in Italy. You will need a microSIM card from a local telecom to use the G3 network in Italy, unless you want to pay AT&T exorbitant roaming fees.
Even a Verizon iPad should work on Wi-Fi only in Italy.

  • Secondary hidden Fees/charges? for giving upgraded att phone to friend

I have a dumbphone nokia (no data plan) that's elgible for an upgrade from att.
My friend wants to use my upgrade to get the samsung galaxy s2 since I don't need a smartphone.
Are there any hidden fee/charges from Best Buy if I:
    1) upgrade my dumbphone nokia to the samsung galaxy s2 with data plan
    2) give phone to my friend who's NOT in my family plan
    3) downgrade my phone back to a dumphone nokia and CANCEL my DATA PLAN
From what I understand, many third party resellers etc have a secondary contract with hidden fees/charges. For example, if I upgrade with amazon wireless, I'm agreeing to att's 2 yr committment, as well as Amazon wireless's own contract where I'll be charged additional fees if I give deactivate the phone and give the phone to someone else within X days.

    To add to Brian's post:
And (F):   The fee is NOT HIDDEN, it is listed on every phone posted online if you are logged in looking at the device. (If not logged in, the system does not know if you are a new sub or a current sub. The charges for activation of a new account and an upgrade are different)
It is on the tag next to each phone at the corporate stores
It is listed in the summary of charges BEFORE completing your order during the confirmation screen.
As for price matching other providers... WHY? Their coverage and lack of 4G service does not deserve to even have the thought of having VZW match their device prices. If ya like their device prices better, as price is obviously the only thing you are looking at, why didn't you just go with Sprint or TMobile.
VZW is the number one provider for a number of reasons and last quarter added many more NEW POST PAID subs than all others combined with the lowest churn rate in the industry. Simply they have no reason to price match.

  • Ipads Disconnecting While Roaming (WPA2, 802.1x, Radius)

We are having an issue that is apparently only affecting Apple Ipads. These are user devices that we are allowing connections to "Guest" SSID through an anchor to our DMZ. They are authenticating over 802.1x to our internal Radius server. Below is the debug of one of the Ipads disconnecting while roaming. After about 10 seconds the connection will resume. This is occuring on a 5508 WLC running 7.0.98.218 code and 1142 APs. Ipad is running 6.0.2 firmware. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I wish I can share the email I was given. But, the largest healthcare system in the US discovered a roaming issue with iOS devices on 6.0.1 and 6.0.2.
"This is purely a device decision problem, not a infrastructure problem, as depicted below. We found that the devices, while roaming, respond incorrectly to the request for identity... creating roaming delays of 30 seconds and more. "

  • Poor customer service& hidden fees.

    Hey,
been a customer of bt for over 2 years now, never been happy with service I received nor with the broadband, broadband wifi works always very poor and sometimes keeps disconecting. been always told either to change channel or reset the home hub,
did move twice a home, now I got a hidden fee of the installation, I'm not going to pay over 140 for installation for a several reasons:
1: It was not mentioned anywhere at all, moved house online. no mentioning everywhere, rather then paying the 130 I would have been off to virgin which is way cheaper and has no hidden fees.
    2:I'm temporary at this address
did enter chat session, was told that the fee is normal. and its normal that it wasnt mentioned anywhere.
I spoke many times with bt before moving, asked even if i can re-upgrade to infinity again after changing address again was told easily yes, no mentioning even then fees of it during  the whole process, I saw the fee when I got loged in online,
from all this time being with bt, i have no positive points from being a bt customer.  the service of broadband is very poor. the customer service is not better either.
been always having bills that are way higher then it supposed to be without even having a phone, i had to pay  always some extra things

  • IPad II fees

is there a $35.00 activation fee associated with adding an iPad to my account.  I understand the $10.00 monthly fee but I have been told there is an additional $35.00 fee if I use the device for a month, turn it off, and then turn it back on in a couple of months.  In effect, a $35.00 fee every time I suspend/resume use.  I have friends who tell me they never paid an activation fee and suspend/resume service on a regular basis, paying only the monthly $10.00 fee.  I have two iPhones and a home device on my plan, never coming close to using my data.

You were not put on the prepay plan.
You actually were added to your existing account.
The prepay tablet plan has no activation fees. You simply select the amount of data you want, your credit or debit card is charged and when you reach that data limit it stops. Then on the renew date it loads it up again.
If you don't want to use data say the next month you simply don't pay for it. That is the way it works.

  • IPad activation fees.

So last week I bought an apple iPad mini 2 from best buy. I decided I wanted to add a line for 10.00 to my existing account. So the lady told me well there is a 35.00 activation fee, but you'll get a 35.00 credit on your next billing cycle. So my question is, why even charge a fee if you refund it back? Honestly I'll never do it again. And it's actually cheaper to buy a phone or tablet or whatever you want for full price vs being in a contract. It hurts more but if your a technology guru you'll appreciate the freedom. It's not cool paying 191.00 bill this month to add a flipping tablet. Might have to sell it to pay the **** bill this month. Thanks Verizon for cramming this in this month. Perfect time after everyone is broke from the holidays.

        Magpul83,
Great choice on the iPad Mini! I certainly understand wanting to get clarification on the activation charge and credit after starting up service. When new service is initiated the activation fee is a system generated charge. If a special promotion is offered to waive it a special offline team will go into the accounts that qualify and remove the charge. This is the reason for the delay, I apologize for any inconvenience. I can understand how paying $191 after the holidays can be tough, so no worries you can certainly contact our Financial Service team at 866-266-1445 to setup a payment arrangement. Please let us know if you need additional assistance.

  • Ipad hidden costs

    Hello everyone,
I don't have an Ipad yet, but I'm planning to buy one soon. I need to understand how much it really costs, before making a hole in my bank account though. How much did you guys spend on average to get your Ipad up to the software level required for a day to day use ?
I'm a Linux user, with MS windows here and there, where most what I have comes from free software.
The type of tools I'm looking at are a file manager, a word/excel processor like open office (or at least a viewer, some advanced text editors such as PSpad, notepad++, a radio, picture viewer, mpeg/avi viewer like vlc, file transfer, telnet, ssh, software to connect to a windows PC etc.. plus all the stuff that come necessary when you use a beast like the ipad (and which I have no idea about)
    thanks for your time,
    cheers

I payed $800 for my iPad including taxes. The monthly data plan is $25 for 2gb here. Of course this is optional. All apps I bought were maybe around $50-100. In general iPad apps are far less expensive than programs for a normal computer. Except for a few specialty apps, the average price is between $1 and $10. Even small sharware tools for the PC or Mac are $20 and up.
There are a few free apps but there is no real open source community like in the Linux world.
I see your point of not knowing what to expect and I can relate. When I bought my iPad I had wrong expectations as well. Not higher or lower, it's just there has not been such a device and i applied notebook logic to it. Once you use it you realize how it's meant to work and you realize you don't need to buy a lot of extras and software to make it useful.
The iPad has a limited use compared to a 'real' laptop which is not a negative thing. It is reduced to do fewer things, but does those very well. And as a result you don't need to spend a lot of money on software to make it useful and support a lot of accessories.
So long story short, maybe add another $100-200 to the price of the iPad for apps and accessories (car charger, case, connection kit, ...) and you should be good.

And believe me, the roaming charges are truly frightening!
But in those spots where 4G/LTE works ok, speed is outstanding. So they can stick you with a HUGE roaming charge in a jiffy.....

  • Charging ipad & iPhone in Italy

I have a new ipad and am traveling in Italy..can I use the supplied USB charger without an additional transformer?

Very likely you can, but you will need a converter to allow you to plug your transformer into a European 2 round pin socket.  You can buy these in a department store or travel store.  In some hotels there may be a special shaver socket in the washroom which will accept US plugs.
Most electronic devices have voltage ratings printed on them.  Universal ones will be rated 110-240 V.

  • How do I enable roaming for my iPad so I can buy data in Paris?

I am in Paris, wanting to buy a data add on so I can use 4G on my iPad Air. I have no service coverage though despite the mobile data, 4G, Roaming, and EU Internet options being switched on in mobile data settings. I presume this means that my iPad is not roaming enabled. How can I change this without calling anyone. I do not want to ring any number as it will cost me loads from abroad and the EE website states that my device should already be enabled for roaming (I've had it for ~12 months). Please advise how I should do this. Thanks

The app is working the way it's suppose to.
