Ipad ideal for uni?

I have just finished my HSC and was wondering if I should get an ipad or a laptop for post future studies.
What do you guys reckon?

I agree with Ralph. The iPad is great for consuming data, listening to music, reading books (when you're not in the sun or outside), watching movies etc. It's not meant to be a great data creator. There are apps for word processing, but all of them are skinnied down versions of the real programs, meaning they're basic, so if you don't want it fancy, it'll be okay. You will also find printing a challenge. Apple only natively supports a select group of air print printers. This can be overcome with third party apps or some printer manufacturers have apps of their own, but it is another hurdle towards compatibility.
Honestly? I'd say get a netbook, which, for a little more bulk, gets you much more compatibility and abilities.
You will spend a lot of time tweaking your iPad to make it do everything you need it to do

IPad or iPad Mini for Uni

I have been using a MacBook Pro at uni for the past 2 years and finding it annoying to bring everyday so I'm planning on getting an iPad but the problem is I am tossing between the regular iPad with Retina Display or the iPad mini and if the iPad is at all, practical for use at uni.
A lot of the notes/slides from my lecturers are in PDF... would I be able to type text into them directly or annotate them with any apps? Or should I use a word processing app such as Pages to take notes? and would it be difficult to type fast and accurately on an iPad mini?
Also, I'd like to keep my Word documents from my MacBook Pro sycned with the iPad... would iCloud support Word documents? And if I type up something on the Pages app, can I get it synced onto my MacBook Pro to open up in Word?
Apart from taking notes at uni, I'd use it to play a few games and store some photos. I don't watch movies on mobile devices.
So which one is better for use at uni?

IPad uses at uni

I am looking at getting an iPad for uni. is pages a good application for taking notes and syncing to my macbook pro?

A texteditor is the best for taking notes on any device.
The iPad is IMHO extremely clumsy for typing.
I have its predecessor, the Pen and Pad. When I discovered that I was simply amazed. So quick, so easy and no glitches except when I run out of ink or paper!

According to Apple's customer service line you can return an engraved iPad for an exchange, but it's not clear if it's within 14 or 30 days. If you call they says 30, but their site says 14. I think it has to be purchased straight through Apple though. Contact where you bought it from and tell them you are thinking of buying a iPad and having it engraved, but are concerned about the refund policy. They'll explain it in more detail at that time.

Update: An Apple rep called me today to update the status of my return. I was told that the replacements for the BLACK iPad 2's was still another 3 weeks out (at least) so they offered me a brand new WHITE 16GB iPad 2. I could have that or continue waiting. I opted to go ahead and accept the offer of a new white one. Worst case scenario if I don't like the white one I have buddy that just bought a 16GB black one that he would be willing to swap it.

Apps are only tied to one account... You can set up two iTunes accounts on your computer, however, and let his iPad sync to his account. If he has never backed up his apps to a computer, however, he will have to redownload all the apps. Afterwards, he can backup to iCloud instead of your computer.

You can create an iTune and App Store account without credit card details
1. Sign out of current Apple ID if you are sign-in to one (important)
2. Go to App Store and select a free app
3. Tap INSTALL APP
4. Create New Apple ID
5. Confirm Your Country
6. Agree with Terms and Conditions
7. Fill in your Apple ID and Password (you must create a new Apple ID; don't use your old Apple ID)
8. Create and answer your secret question
9. Select NONE for Payment Method
10. Fill in Billing Address
11. Submit application for new Apple ID
12. Wait for verification email
13. When email arrive, verify your account
14. Start downloading your free apps

You have to go to Settings>iCloud and tap Delete Account, then sign back in with your updated credentials. This deletes the account and your synced data from your device, but not from iCloud. Provided you are signing back into the same account and not changing to a different account, your data will be synced back to your device when you sign back in.

So I have an iPad 2 for two years. Has never been dropped or in water or damaged in any way....now the volume is distorted and I get booted off the web all the time. Plus it shows and no service in top left corner. Any one have these issues?

So I got is iPad as a gift and the same issues I had with my iPhone 4S is also happening with my iPad. Will Apple cover the problem as it lies within there updates or something. All I know I have taken perfect care of both products and volume is distorted. This really is starting to feel like a hardware issue than a software one.
Especially if hearing noises when you connecting up your iPad for charging.

I have had your exact problem with my old 3GS, now I cannot even get it to turn on, I still see that it is supposed to be charging though, but it never charges any so it seems.
I replaced the Lower Dock Connector Assembly back when it still charged while hooked to my PC, and it found it made no real difference.

Do you have one, two or more entries in the left colum of Mail.app for your mail server(s)? That is, do you have your Mail.app set up with either a btinternet entry, with a btyahoo entry, or both? Or more?
I'm guessing that you might have one account (btyahoo?) listed for incoming (IMAP server) mail, and with the outbound (SMTP server) mail is configured and named btinternet.
Based on what little I see posted, it looks like BT uses both btinternet and btyahoo, but I'm not exactly clear on how they have their stuff set up, and their web set gets helpful and tries to help configure my mail — I don't immediately see a single web page with the mail server set-up details. The BT email client set-up starts here.
