IPad II fees

is there a $35.00 activation fee associated with adding an iPad to my account.  I understand the $10.00 monthly fee but I have been told there is an additional $35.00 fee if I use the device for a month, turn it off, and then turn it back on in a couple of months.  In effect, a $35.00 fee every time I suspend/resume use.  I have friends who tell me they never paid an activation fee and suspend/resume service on a regular basis, paying only the monthly $10.00 fee.  I have two iPhones and a home device on my plan, never coming close to using my data.

You were not put on the prepay plan.
You actually were added to your existing account.
The prepay tablet plan has no activation fees. You simply select the amount of data you want, your credit or debit card is charged and when you reach that data limit it stops. Then on the renew date it loads it up again.
If you don't want to use data say the next month you simply don't pay for it. That is the way it works.

  • IPad hidden fees/roaming in Italy??

I plan to purchase an iPad to take with me to Italy, as it's lighter than a laptop. Will there be any hidden fees or issues if I do this?

That's something you will have to ask your cellular service provider, assuming you're talking about a 3G iPad with an active cellular data service.  If you're talking about a wifi-only iPad, that costs you nothing other than any costs (if any) associated with whatever wireless networks you are able to connect to in Italy.

  • IPad activation fees.

So last week I bought an apple iPad mini 2 from best buy. I decided I wanted to add a line for 10.00 to my existing account. So the lady told me well there is a 35.00 activation fee, but you'll get a 35.00 credit on your next billing cycle. So my question is, why even charge a fee if you refund it back? Honestly I'll never do it again. And it's actually cheaper to buy a phone or tablet or whatever you want for full price vs being in a contract. It hurts more but if your a technology guru you'll appreciate the freedom. It's not cool paying 191.00 bill this month to add a flipping tablet. Might have to sell it to pay the **** bill this month. Thanks Verizon for cramming this in this month. Perfect time after everyone is broke from the holidays.

        Magpul83,
Great choice on the iPad Mini! I certainly understand wanting to get clarification on the activation charge and credit after starting up service. When new service is initiated the activation fee is a system generated charge. If a special promotion is offered to waive it a special offline team will go into the accounts that qualify and remove the charge. This is the reason for the delay, I apologize for any inconvenience. I can understand how paying $191 after the holidays can be tough, so no worries you can certainly contact our Financial Service team at 866-266-1445 to setup a payment arrangement. Please let us know if you need additional assistance.

  • AT&T vs Verizon Data Plan for iPad 2 - Activation Fees?

I heard that Verizon has a $35 activation fee everytime you activate the data plan. Is this true?
I am trying to get one where I can activate on a month-to-month basis as I please without paying an activation fee each time. I know that this is the case for AT&T. If Verizon has the activation fee, then this is an easy decision.
    Thanks!

This leads me to believe that the activation fee is for the MiFi unit because it has a phone number assigned to it.

I think the Verizon website is misleading. There is no mention of activation fees, but according to almost every reputable source the fee exists.
I wrote to Verizon customer service earlier in the week to find out from the source. I asked:
    "IF I purchase the Verizon 3G iPad2:
    1. Will I be able to activate/deactivate Verizon service as needed?
    2. Is there an activation fee? If so, how much?
    3. Is the activation fee charged each time service is activated and/or
deactivated? If not, when exactly is the fee charged?"
    They answered:
"You may disconnect the device at anytime. However, if the disconnect is after the 14-day Worry Free Guarantee return/exchange timeframe, then you are liable for an early termination fee. The early termination fee is prorated based on how much of the contract has been completed.
Yes, there is an activation fee for all new lines of service. In your case, the activation fee would be $35. This applies each time that a line activation is requested."
That reads to me as a $35 fee every time you activate service, be it every other month, every three months or whatever.
It may not be a problem for some, but this is a dealbreaker for me. I am getting the AT&T iPad2. It is unfortunate that one iPad cannot handle both services, as that would promote competition.

  • I'm headed to Europe in a month with an iPad 2 w/ATT 3G. Will I be able to use the 3G without excess roaming fees?

I'm headed to Europe in a month with an iPad 2 w/ATT 3G. Will I be able to use the 3G without excess roaming fees?

I have just been back from Germany. Using GPRS/EDGE or 3G Roaming will certainly incur additional cost to you.  However, there are many service providers in Europe with different 3G using rates/KB and minimum KB usage per log-in.  Check price before you log-in to any network.
Recommend to check 1) your local mobile operator for Roaming promotion in Europe or 2) buy International SIM from your country with very lower cost of calling, receiving calls, and using data (I am not sure your country has these kind of service provider).

  • Setting up an airport express router with only an ipad

i will be in a hotel room with only ethernet wired connection.  i am traveling only with my ipad.  can i hook up an wireless modem (Airport exrpress) without a laptop?  How?

The iPad operating system will not support AirPort Utility, the application that is needed to configure the AirPort Express.
Your best bet for the time being is going to be to try to use the AirPort Express in its default settings.
Connect the Express to the Ethernet port at the hotel and power it up. The Express is broadcasting a default wireless network with a name like Apple Network xxxxxx, where the "x" could be a letter or number. Look for that wireless network to log on (there is no password). Then open your browser to see if the hotel's log in page appears so you can agree to terms and fees, etc.
If the hotel does not use a log in page, you should be connected to the Internet if all is well. Since you have an "open" network, anyone within range can log on to your wireless, so you might want to be careful with any sensitive banking or credit card transactions.
It's not likely that a hacker is close by, but you never know.
Once you get back home, you can use AirPort Utility to setup the Express to name your wireless network and etstablish a password. Once you save the settings, you should not need to configure the Experss again as it will retain its settings.

  • Need to replace the screen on my ipad and ipod, how to do without having to pay a fortune?

Do not refuse to pay, but pay practically the value of another product, and all the expenses with displacement, because in my state do not have a service that does this serviço.isso I do not accept. here is my outrage and disappointment. Another alternative is that you give me to pay for authorized repair, as I do to lose the warranty? this is not an option. If the guarantee is difficult and costly, with no guarantee then ...

  • I am a US citizen in school in Montreal and I was given a US Apple Store gift card. How can I buy the new iPad using my gift card and with a school discount?

I am a grad student from NYC and at a university in Montreal. I was given a 500$ gift card as a gift to put towards a new ipad. BUT, I apparently cannot use the US gift card in Canada. So, what do I do? I have no time to head back to NYC to get it. I want to order it, but not sure they will ship to montreal...? And was thinking of sending it back to my parents and then have them buy it and mail it to me, but I I think them having to pay tax on this is ridiculous. On top of that, I should be able to garner the ed discount but I dont think the US recognizes Canadian schools in their system and visa versa. SO if I do buy it in the US, I can use my gift card but I can't get the discount. Or if I buy it here in MTL, I can get the discount but I cannot use the gift card..
Can anyone suggest a solution? all bright ideas welcome.

You can only use a gift card in the country it was issued in - no way around that as the Apple Store does NOT offer currency exchange with gift cards.
Nor can you order from the USA online store and ship to any address outside of the USA - again, no way around that as the online stores do NOT ship internationally.
You could send the gift card back to someone in the USA, to use to purchase your item for you, and then once they receive it, they could ship it to you.  Canada customs will hold it until they collect any import fees and taxes levied on imported consumer electronics though.
Either that or buy it in Canada with the discount, and use the card later when you get home again.

  • Is there a way to fix the white or black screen on Ipad 4th Gen?

Ive tried to reset it and restore to factory settings but this does not work. The screen was white until I restored to factory settings and now it's black when it starts up. Ive also let it die and tried to charge and power it on again but no go. It's an Ipad Black 32GB 4th Gen. I will post a link to one of the pictures I had of it below. I am wondering if I have to pay how much it'll be to fix. It was working great until about a week ago when it randomly happened. It was purchased in February of 2013.

  • HT4623 I down loaded ios 7 to my wifes ipad 2  but because of the streamlined look my wife can bearly see the letters and numbers on the key board because of an eyesight problem  She had no problem with the old keyboard.  Is there a way to make the letter

I downloaded ios 7 to my wifes ipad 2.  The only problem was, with the new system the letters and numbers on the keyboard became so streamlined that my wife had trouble seeing them because of a eye problem.  Is there a way to get the old keyboard back and if not how do you uninstall ios 7?

I had thought this situation was solved but it just got worse. In addition to being without service for several days I am now being charged  a cancellation fee for a broadband service that BT disconnected in error. BT Vision was also terminated by BT but the set up charges are still in place. Does anyone know who the relevant Ombudsman is? I called BT from America on Friday - for an hour - while someone called Aruj sorted out why there is an order 'in progress' that I didn't initiate; why I have fees relating to a problem created by BT and why there are references to a house move that didn't take place and a BT Vision service I no longer have but didn't cancel myself. He assured me it would be rectified and my bill would be reduced by 139 pounds and we would get confirmation of this later that day. I asked him what chance there was that this would not actually happen - he said no chance at all; my new bill would be 23.50.
There was no text message. An online chat person today told me there had been a fee reduction request which had been declined and there was nothing else he could help me with as he dealt only with broadband. But he would get BT Vision to email me. They always seem so helpful.............
I'm sure I'm listed somewhere as 'a problem', there's no other explanation for why I get the runaround

  • How Do I determine which model ipad I need?

I initially thought buying a baic 16GB Ipad with the 9.7" screen would be simple and inexpensive. But, the more I have looked, the more confused I am. I am so technically challenged that I do not understand the "specs", let alone how to use them. I have a basic nebook that I only use for emails, chatting, shopping and research. And that is because I do not know how to use all the features available. And I love my Kindle 3G Wi-Fi e-reader but it is not color and has the external  typing key pad, which has been ideal for me .  I do not even know how to text on my cellphone so I had the service removed since I did not use it. And I only use the Kindle for reading but was glad got the 3G Model but their is no additional monthly usage fee.
But, now that I have been looking at the Apple ipads, I do not know if their  3/4G capabiliy service is worth the extra cost, as well as the high monthly serive fees? I am hoping someone can better explain why it cost so much more and just what the benefits will mean to me? Also, there any many benefits and added features but I do not believe I will ever learn t use many of them. And could someone please explain the advantage of "Bluetooth" and just what it means? And what other items or features will cost extra per month to use? Also, are none of the printer compatable? Is there no accessory to allow you to use a wireless printers? This was one of the most disappointing thing I have learned about the tablets. Aso, how is the quality of sound system?  Mine on the netbook is very poor and even with the volume on high, it is difficult to get good clear speach. So, I never watch moveis on my computer. And I am afraid it may be the same problem with the iPads? But, maybe with an external speaker or earbuds, it could enhance the sound? If so, at least I could listen to music.
In the beginning I was not concenred which model but now after reading more about the latest Apple, I feel the new easy to read screen is something I need. So, I hope someone can help me select the right model without my buying much more than I will ever need or use. I look foward any assistance you great tech savvy users can provide. I believe it always helps to be an informed buyer. So, trying to do my homework to prevent buyers remorse.
If it is permissable, you may email me with your information and suggestions on just what features I need to look for.

    Varjak paw:
I don't think you can purchase the 3/4+ wireless service unless you pay the extra for one that has the capabilities. So, if we are not certain we will need it, it is a tough decision. It it has the capablities, you are not required to purchase a monthly contract. You can just use as needed.
I do not know why this has become such a major decision for me but the more I hear, the more confused I am. The problem is it would be nice to have the special wireles service available if needed but I think it may be more beneficial to me to pay the extra 100.00 and get the 32 GB instead of the 16? But, my granddaughter says I will not need that much.
My initial plan was simply to purchse the 16GB wif-fi and keep it simple. But, after learning the advantages of the Newst model and the improved screen, I thought I should get it since I have vision problems. Another problem is these things are outdated before we can decide which one to get. And some have suggested it will be more diffucult to get parts and have them repaired with an older model. Howeverm from what I have seen with these new electronic items, they are dispoable. Usually, if something does go wrong, it cost more to repair than to replace them.
I am just experienceing this with my Kindle 3G/Wi-Fi. It is only a couple of months out of warranty but it is now freezing up. Also, it is loosing my place, and skipping pages and even paragraphs. It was working perfectly until about a week ago and of course, no one can help. You have to return it for them to check it and let you know what the problem could be and If it can be repaired. This is very disapointing to me since I was just planning to buy the Ipad. And now, I may have to replace the Kindle, which I wanted to keep for just reading. I have so many books on it and they are all in order and organized. So, this has put damper on what to do about the Ipad. If I were sure I would like to read on it as well as I do the Kindle, I would just the the Ipad and not get another Kindle. But, I will need to see what the problem is first. I really enjoy the Kindle and wanted to keep it just for my books. It is so fast and convenient to use. At least for me since I like the typing pad on the outside rather then the touch pad. But, I suppose I will learn how to use the new one? I am just so illierate when it comes to using any electronics. I cannot use a remote control,.:) I only use my computer for email, chatting and surfing since I do not know how to use many of the functions and applications that are available on it. I do not even have text on my cell phone. I have kept my electronic to a minumim. But, I thought I might enjoy the Appple Ipad and could learn to use it online so I would not have to have the computer on all the time?  But, I cannot beleive how expensive it is compared to a netbook or laptop when they will do much more than the Tablet. I suppose the Ipad is a luxury for those who can afford all the lasted new technical items available.
I did try a Pandigital Tablet before I bought the Kindle and did not like it at all. So, I returned it and got the Kindle and was so pleased that I could use it so easily. And I did not need the color screen, I just hope the Apple Tablet will be easier to use than the Pandigital or I am afraid, I will be to hard for me to learn to use it and be able to  take full advantage of of getting around on the internet, I had a problem with the ohter touch screen scrolling back up before I had finished typing in all the information I needed. And I had to download from Barnes and Nobels and there selection was not nearly as good as the Kindle and they were much higher.
So if anyone is patent enough to read all this and can understand what I need and could provide your  expert advice, suggestion and opinions, I would love to hear from you and any or all the issue in which I need help.
    Thanks - Sunny in SC
