IPad iMovie playing unwanted sound effects
I have a movie on the iPad that plays the phone ringing sound effect. I have not put that sound effect in the movie. What is up?
The "yellow caution badge" that Peter refers to indicates that iMovie can't locate the clip, whether it be video or audio. The "badge" is in the shape of a yellow triangle enclosing an exclamation mark - see this picture:
One tip that may help is to delete iMovie's preference file. That file can become corrupted under certain circumstances, such as when iMovie quits unexpectedly or is Force Quit.
The file is located in your User (Home) folder Library/Preferences and, for iMovie '11, is named "com.apple.iMovieApp.plist".
Close iMovie, then drag the .plist file to the Trash. When opened, iMovie will create a fresh .plist file with the default settings, which you can change if desired in iMovie's menu item iMovie>Preferences.
Deleting the file will not harm your existing Events or Projects, but may fix iMovie's abnormal behaviour.
NOTE: I have seen similar behaviour myself, as you and Peter describe (but not as serious - it was on a test project). My fix was to check each and every audio track and switch Ducking OFF and ON (or ON and OFF depending on its setting). The disappearing audio suddenly re-appeared on the problem track. But it may have been coincidental, as I was playing around generally - perhaps something else I did triggered it.

I have just purchased an ipad and downloaded a few basic games, but I cannot get any sound from the games, I have checked in general settings, and in each of the app settings to make sure that the sounds are on, I have also tried deleting and reloading the game apps, but still no sounds.

I would press too hard because if you crack that glass then any repairs will be yours to pay.

Hello All,
I'm trying to figure out how to play a Sound Effect on the trigger of the "changing" event on a List.
So basically I have:

So the list above snaps to the item to be centered, though I would like on every snap, for it to make a click sound. I've added the method for playing the sound as:

The Sound effect plays, though it's not playing at every Snap interval, so if I scroll fast among them, it's not playing, only on the last selection.I can´t believe it.. While writing the previous post, I thought on a really simple solution and compiled it to give it a try. It works perfectly!
As simple as setting the "cacheAsBitmap" property to "true" on the Spark lists of the views!! -
IMovie/iLife Sound Effects working in FCPX but no sign of original folders?
I posted this question a couple of weeks ago but received no resolution.
PROBLEM:-
iMovie and iLife Sound Effects are present and working in FCP X 10.1.3 but there is no sign of their original folders on my Mac HD
DETAILS:-
I have searched in Mac HD>Library>Audio>Apple Loops>Apple and numerous other places.
I have done Spotlight and Finder searches using both the folder names and some of the individual loop names to no effect.
I have used DiskWave to list every file and folder on my computer . . . still no sign.
The computer is a new (2012) Mac mini, Yosemite with very little on it.
The folders were there originally when I bought it with Mavericks installed last month.
I upgraded to Yosemite but as I suffered a few minor bugs I created a new partition and reinstalled Mavericks.
It was whilst using Mavericks that I noticed FCP X could not access the sound effects and a search of both partitions suggested they had disappeared.
However, when I restarted in Yosemite and opened FCP X, the sound effects were there and working in the music browser but were no longer visible anywhere on the hard drive.
This has to rank as a greater mystery than the Mary Celeste!PROBLEM SOLVED !
I have just been using DiskWave for another matter and accidentally discovered the whereabouts of the missing iMove and iLife sound effects.

So now they actually reside in the iMovie app itself.
So what caused them to disappear from the "Apple Loops" folder?
I can only guess but I suspect that the switch occurred when I updated iMovie to the latest "Yosemite" version.
Presumably Apple has decided that the best place for these loops is in the iMovie app . . . it's just a pity they didn't tell anyone else!
If anyone would like to test this theory for me I would be most obliged . . . assuming you have an old version of iMove and are running Yosemite, simply update iMovie and look for the new location of the sound effects. -
When I turned on my Ipad to use, the sound effects logo appearned in the center of my page, how do I remove it?
Try,
Settings > General > Accessibility > Assistive Touch > then switch this to Off it is on.
If this is not on, then please go through all the Accesssibility controls and make sure that they are all set to Off. From you description, I would guess that one of them is on. -
Sound Effects Driving Me Crazy
I went to user preferences -> sounds -> and unchecked "play user sound effects" and unchecked "play front row sound effects".
Yet the sound effects for opening new web pages, clicking on the menu bar, etc keep happening.
They are driving me crazy. How do I make them stop?

How do i disable the sound effects of the firefox browser?
Firefox Version 3.6.15 for MAC OS X
My computer plays clicking sound effects when i scroll up and down a page and when i open new tabs/windows only within the Firefox program.
Is there a way to turn it off?

I'd like to be able to play a number of selected sound effects using the keyboard in Garage Band. I've figured out how to import audio tracks from my itunes library into a track in Tracks View.
Thanks if anyone has experience with this......GarageBand on iPad does not have the SoundEffects instruments, that GarageBand on Mac has.
The closest you can get to this on your iPad will be the "Sampler" instrument. You can record a sound sample and play it using the "Sampler" instrument and adjust the pitch.
But you cannot assigne different samples to different keys.

IMovie '11 stopped playing some of my audio sound effects.
I completed a project in iMovie '11 yesterday and today opened it to fine tune the musical scoring. I'm using a 2011 MacBook Air 13 in. Yesterday all the background audio files I had placed, as well as the pinned audio (that iMovie calls "sound effects") worked fine. Today the first few will play and the rest are muted. Also, if I should add a sound effect or music file to the timeline, it appears normally, but remains mute. Nothing comes out of the speakers. The sound file will play fine in the Audio window. Selecting it and then hitting the play button (or double-clicking it) will cause it to play normally. But when I drag the file over to the timeline and drop it on a clip, it attaches normally and looks fine. But when I play the video, there is no sound. Now here's the strange thing. If I copy one of the audio files that DOES play and then paste it back into the timeline, it will not play. It's the same file, but at one point it plays and at another it does not. This problem does not occur with background audio files. If I take the same file that will not play as an attached "sound effect" and paste it into the background as a big green background audio file, it will play.
So, what's going on? I don't recall doing anything since yesterday (when everything worked fine) that might have caused this aberrant behavior. Have you ever encountered a problem like this? Any idea about what I can do to correct this? Thank you for your swift reply. Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. no sound effects on games or keyboard click since downloading 8.1.3 this morn. At first no sound on anything then played about in setting and switched off and now no sound effects despite being on full volume. If I reset will I lose my games pl ?
I Think you have system sounds muted. Don't reset anything just yet.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the control center if you are running iOS 7 or 8. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to control center . Tap on the bell icon and system sounds will return.
If you are running iOS 5 or iOS 6, the system sound control is in the task bar at the bottom. Double tap the home button and swipe all the way to the right in the task bar to get to the speaker icon on the left side. Tap on that and the sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock can be accessed in the same manner as described above.

IPad 3 Volume Control says Sound Effects and won't adjust
Regardless of the mute button/orientation lock whenever I push up or down on the volume control buttons on the side of the iPad, the Volume indicator that lights up in the center of the screen says "Sound Effects" and there are no bars below it to indicate the actual volume, and it will not change. If I double press the home button, and swipe right to the dimmer/volume/play controls, the volume bar doesn't even show up in its location there. I'm thinking that the kids changed something in one of their games. And turning it off, or even doing the hard reset of pushing the home and off button simultaneously doesn't clear the problem out.

I just now followed the advice above, and solved my problem by using a different charging cable.
Must be lucky that the old charging cable is "dorked", and not the internals of the iPad!
The indication of a bad cable, I guess, is that the sound controls fade out after a few seconds with it connected, but they do not do so with a good cable.

BTW, some folks also say that the problem may be related to using a non-Apple charger or cable; my "bad" cable is non-Apple; the good one is the original (albeit too short) cable that arrived with the iPad. -
Have done all suggested things including toggle and change in settings. Still it keeps showing a bell (which shows sound effects) but does not enable change of sound / sound in apps.
On Saturday, 3rd may2014 I got an appointment with Genius Bar at WEST 14th street NYC which initially said that this looks like settings issue. So they reset my iPad settings.
When this did not work, they also reloaded the iOS. Even that did not solve the problem. They conveyed that this is a hardware problem and thus they can solve this (except for replacement for which they will charge $250 for an iPad 2.)
However the ringer sound is coming perfect ( the sound is not available in any of the apps but the same speaker works for ringer).
HOW IS THAT SUPPOSED TO BE A HARDWARE PROBLEM THEN? ALSO WHY CAN APPLE NOT CHANGE THE SPEAKERS?
When I conveyed that this is APPLE specific issue, they flatly denied and conveyed that there are NO such cases. When I offered to show it on Aple community, they say THIS HAPPENS TO ONLY A SMALL MINORITY AND IS NOT CONSIDERED A "KNOWN ISSUE".
I HAD GONE AT THE SAME TIME FOR CHANGING MY IPHONE's speaker (for that too, they said that they can only replace my phone with a hefty payment rather than changing the speakers).
THIS AMPLY SHOWED THAT THEY HAD NO INTENTION OF SERVICING THE INSTRUMENTS AND THEY WERE ONLY THINKING OF HOW TO INCREASE SALES BY DRAWING ON THE OLD INVENTORY.
SHOWS RIDICULOUS ATTITUDE OF APPLE.After I upgraded to Mavericks I was also having this message when I tried to update. There was a previous post about this problem which offered this simple solution which worked for me:
