Ipad in WDS network: problems with roaming

We have a WIFI-network with several remote wifi-stations. Using an iPad, we have problems when moving within the network  to pick up the stronger signal from a close-by station. Instead, the iPad keeps the previous station till it gets so week it drops the connection.
It looks, we had a problem with 3.0, then it seemed to become much better in iOS 3.2, now with 3.3. it got bad again.
Any experience or better idea how to get a reliable connection when moving within the wifi-network-area?

you did not say what router you are using. i am asuming you have 2 apple airport base stations, one named lab1 and the other is lab2.
if you want your ipad to steer to the nearest base station you need to run an ethernet cable between lab1 and lab2 on lab1 you set airport utility to "allow this network to be extended" and on lab2 yoiu run airport utillity and set it to "join an existing network", there should be a setting there"connect with ethernet".. once this is properly setup, the ipad should automatically steer to the access point that has the strongest signal
also on lab2, you want to set it to ""allow wireless clients". if that is not checked, then the ipad cannot join it.
if you are not using apple airport extremes or apple airport expresses in  your network, then your probably posting on the wrong forum. and you would need to go to that manufactures website to see how to setup their wireless routers to wds.

If it's happening on all the apps that you've downloaded from the App Store, but not the Apple built-in ones, then try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted.
If it's happening on all apps then try closing them all completely and then see if they work when you re-open them : from the home screen (i.e.not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

The 4Gs hardware, only 256 MB of RAM, prohibits updating beyond 6.1.6.
Starting when iOS 7 was released, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.

  • Network problems with (only) ipad 2

I have some problems with the wifi-connectivity with my ipad 2. The wifi-connection is not stable. This is not that bad, but when i'm using my apple tv device to listen music, the connection will be disconnected within (most of the time) 10 minutes. I have also an Ipad 1 and an iphone 4s. I don't have any problems with these devices. So what can be wrong with my ipad 2 and the configuration? Does anybody have the same problem? what is the solution for this problem? my router is a sitecom wl-160, does this matter.

Have you tried basic troubleshooting steps like rebooting your iPad?
To reboot your iPad, hold down the sleep/wake button and the home button simultaneously until the screen goes black and the Apple logo appears. If, during this process, a slider appears on the screen to power it off, ignore it and keep holding the buttons down.
Rebooting your iPad can solve a lot of problems. If the problem remains, try to reset your network settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. Note that this will erase any stored wifi password and you'll have to enter them again.
If you haven't tried these things yet, please do so and report back.

  • Problem with roaming for specific apps

    Hi :)
I have a problem with my iPhone 4s:
When i use roaming on my iPhone 4s i try to save some money by turning off roaming for specific apps, but one day for ca. 3 weeks ago it stopped working!
Some apps can use roaming but some can't ;(
There are like 10 apps always turned on, but if i try turning roaming off for an app that is on already it wont work!
If i close settings and reopen it, the app is now denied using roaming!
If i try allowing an app it changes but still wont work and after some time it gets in the same possission i cant change!
I have never experienced this before and i could't find an answer on google ;(
If you know how to fix it please respond to me here :)

P.S: Im really sorry if there are bad english here, but im mot english sooooo..... yeah

You are on the right track suspecting DHCP conflicts.
To configure your "roaming network" connect your "slave" Extreme to your main Internet router - either directly or through a switch - and place it in "bridge mode". That will work.
A router will be distributing IP addresses using DHCP. Anything connected to it should be configured as a bridge, the essential difference being that a bridge does not distribute IP addresses.
I do not believe your "slave" Extreme will function connected as it is to the "main" Extreme, but may work if you assign it a static IP address. It is not unusual for it to retain this static IP after having been changed to DHCP if its lease is still valid.
The OK article you referenced must be terribly outdated if it is referring to AirPort Admin Utility. That has not been used in about a decade. Read this one:
Wi-Fi base stations: Extending the range of your wireless network by adding additional Wi-Fi base stations
Unfortunately its screenshots refer to AirPort Utility 5.6, which has been replaced with the prettier, though less useful 6.2.

  • Network problems with Apple TV 3 - streaming / home share etc

    My setup:
    iMac (21", mid-2011) running OS X 10.7.3 and iTunes 10.6
    Apple TV 3
    Apple Airport Extreme router
    BT HomeHub 3
HomeHub is used as a modem (ADSL), wired connection into the Airport Extreme which then provides my wireless network.
Apple TV set up last Friday (launch day). I have it set to use home-sharing with iTunes, and have tried the YouTube channel. Not tried using the iTunes Store direct.
Initially had problems with 'streaming' video from iTunes using home-sharing, buffering either took a VERY long time or simply didn't happen at all. After a reset, updating OS X, iTunes, Airport Extreme firmware etc etc it started to work fairly well. Also tried streaming video direct on the YouTube channel (very fast, no buffering delay at all) and using AirPlay from an iPad (again, no problem).
Tonight, everything appears to be broken. Home sharing from iTunes has taken 2 minutes to buffer 30 seconds of video; YouTube similar; AirPlay from the iPad doesn't appear to be streaming at all.
Have tried re-starting iTunes; re-starting the Airport Extreme; re-starting the Apple TV. Nothing changing.
    Help?!

I don't have an answer for this, unfortunately. I've even had my Apple TV replaced (yesterday), and after about an hour of normal operation, it now fails to connect to servers, or connects intermittently and poorly, and it can no longer connect to the iOS Remote app. These are the exact symptoms that prompted the Genius Bar to replace the original unit.
Either there is a basic flaw in Apple TV, or I'm extremely unlucky. All my other Mac and iOS devices have positively no network problems. Very frustrating.
WiFi is provided by a late-model AirPort Extreme.

  • Network problem with one particular iMac in a home network

I want to report a problem involving one particular iMac (2008 Al 24").
On my home network (Apple Airport Extreme and Express extensions, about five Macs and couple of iDevices), all other Macs can see and connect to each other as well as printing to the networked Brother printer without problem.
However, on one particular iMac, I can see all other Macs, can set Brother printer as default with green dot next to it in Print Preference Pane, but I can not connect to other macs, nor print to the printer. Meanwhile, the iMac can get on the internet without any problem. I checked Share Preference Pane and all settings are same as other macs.
The iMac used to work flawlessly until recently, and I first noticed the problem because I could not print, getting a message the printer can not be found (and the dots turn yellow for a while then went back to normal green). Then, I found neither the iMac, nor other macs on the network can connect to each other, even though I can see all of them in Finder.
I opened Apple Remote Network on my own mac, and I can see and connect all other shared macs, but this iMac's status showed not online, even though the IP adress is valid. As a results, no other macs can connect to the iMac, either. It seems to be a problem with the intranet only, not internet.
One more thing, about a month ago, the iMac popped out a warning about network name, saying the old name was in use (conflict) in the network, so I have to change it in Share Pane. Not sure if this is related to the intranet problem.
Reboot and repaired permission several times, no change. Hate to reinstall everything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Another update:
For unknown reason, my iMac was suddenly back onto the home "intranet". It can be accessed by my MacBook Air through Finder Connect, and can also be seen by Apple Remote Desktop.
However, printing is still a problem while other macs have no problem printing to the same printer. Whenever I send a print task, either Word document, or other programs such as GraphicConverter image, the iMac tried to connect to the default printer, but failed, and wanted to try again in 30 seconds 9and continued to fail). Meanwhile, the green dot next to the printer selection turned to yellow in Preference Pane. But as soon as I cancel the print job, the printer status went back to normal green.
The printer is a Brother color laser HL-4070CDW, connected through wireless (g only), with it own DHCP but specific IP address. I printed out a setting for the printer and all looks normal, and all other macs can print to it without problem. Other macs can also get access to the printer profile, and check inks copy counts, etc, but the iMac cannot.
Only thing changed since last post was a new update for Apple Airport firmware (to 7.5.2 I think). So my problem is still half solved: can connect to other macs on the same network, but still not be able to print.

  • Windows Vista and WiFi networking problem with MackBook Air

    Hi, everyone!
Thanks in advance for the following help.
For some specific programms I need Windows Vista to be set up on my MacBook Air.
The problem with Broadcom WiFi adapter.
While moving large files over home network it hangs and looses the wifi network. It works OK while surfing the internet or doing other low traffic job. But when it comes to 2 MB/sec transfer it doesn't work. I tried two different routers, no positive result. PC works propely on any file sizes. After booting the Leopard the problem goes away. So it is onle Windows Vista problem.
May be drivers? I tried 4.170.25.19 Windows Vista drivers from Broadcom - it didn't help. But I am not goog in driver settings in Control Panel, so may be the solution is there.
Any ideas how to solve it?
    Thanks for help in advance.
    Andrey.

Hello Nescom. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I'm afraid I really don't have an answer for you but I can offer my experiences with large files transfer with Vista. My current home network is a combination of Windows PC, Windows Servers, and Macs. Large file transfers between most of them have relatively the same performance, except when transferring large files from the Vista PC to any other OS. It is demonstrably slower. Interestingly, transfers between Vista machines does not appear to be a problem. I understand that this is a known problem by Microsoft and was supposed to be fixed with Vista SP1.
So the problem might not be your network, but Vista itself. I'm curious if you have this problem when transferring large files to another Vista device?

  • Networking Problems with T400

    Good Afternoon.
We have a problem with T400 Lenovo notebook 6475-6E7.
    Operating System Windows XP SP3.
When the computer is set to standby and we unplug the network cable to move this notebook to another place, the ip that the notebook has when it was connected to the cable is keep, even if we change the cable with another internet connection that has another IP Range.
We can only change the automatic IP making an ip config /release. and ipconfig /renew.
Another thing that is rare is that when you unplug the cable and you make an ipconfig /all, the interface shows you the IP even if the cable is unplug.
The driver installed on this notebook is the same you have on the web. Do you have any idea what could cause the IP to be keep by the notebook even if this is unplug from the wall.

  • 3g network problem with iphone os 4.0.2

    hi
from 2 days i upgrade my iphone 3g to os 4.0.2, and from the time i upgrade it i can't use 3g in my phone i called my ISP they told me there is problems with os 4.0.2, so i want to know how i can make downgrade to os 4.0.1 or os 4.0 to make sure that a problem from the new os 4.0.2
    and thanks

Hi, i also trouble with the 3g network. I couldn't make/rec calls or send/rec text msgs but i could email - odd. I rang apple and they had me turn off the 3g setting and now i can use me phone. I assume this is a vodaphone issue and not my phone's fault as i first thought. Just an idea if any one is having similar probs.
