Ipad ios 4.2.1 update to 5.1.1 how do I back up books?
I am way overdue for an OS update and it says I will lose all my music, books etc on the ipad and there are purchases detected that have not been transferred. I synced but the books do not sync. How do I do this so I don't lose anything?
Use the Transfer Purchases function in iTunes prior to updating the device.

Hi, the App Store icon has been removed from my iPad even after synching and updating. Any suggestions on how to get it back to be able to update / purchase apps?
If you do not have, or remember, the passcode for Restrictions, the only option available to you is to reset the device to factory settings via itunes.

My ipad 1 froze during an update of OS...how do I reset?
My IPAD 1 froze before the update to OS system Began. I am unable to turn it off. Is there a way for me to force it close and start over?
Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

Hi my issue is that I dropped my ipad, and the screen is now blue. I have tried pressing the power button and the center button (I even pit it on the charger), but the screen is still blue. My questions are am i covered to get a replacement, and how do I back-up my stuff with the cloud if the ipad is my only apple device?
If you didn't have iCloud backup turned on before you broke it, you are out of luck.
Accidental damage is not covered by warranty.
You can get an out of warranty replacement from Apple for around $250. -
IPad iOS 6.1.2 update causing excessive battery drain
I have noticed in other discussions that a number of iPhone users have experienced excessive battery drain after updating to iOS 6.1.2.
I am now experiencing this problem in a big way after updating to iOS 6.1.2 on an iPad 3. Prior to this update, my battery life was very good, dropping to only 70% to 80% at the end of a typical day of use.
After the update, which was said to be to fix a previious Mail Exchange battery drain issue (one that I was not experiencing), my battery was dropping to 30% after a few hours. It was literally like holding a bucket with a hole in the bottom and watching the water drain out.
I noticed that my Usage time and Standby time were identical, even though the ipad had been in sleep mode much of the time. This indicates to me that something about this patch is causing the iPad not to actually sleep when in sleep mode.
The iPhone discussion forums point to a number of possible fixes, including uninstalling all emails and re-installing them all the way to a total erasure and reinstalation of everything. This worked for some, but not for all victims of this problem.
Until Apple recognizes this problem and sends out another update, one less painful solution that worked for me was to change all of my email accounts from Push to Fetch every 15 minutes. This has stopped the problem for me, for now. so I wanted to share this in case anyone else is experiencing similar problems.
If other community members have discovered other short term or long term fixes then please do post here.
Apple, I await an update that will allow me to restore Push functionality, or instructions on what steps will work to properly restore full functionality (what to remove and reinstall etc).Just to confirm that I have the same problem. I updated to iOS6.1.2 on Friday 1 March 2013, I have an iPad2. And Saturday morning my iPad was 0% after having nodded off on a 78% full battery. This has NEVER happened before, and has become a daily occurrence. I have now amended my Mail to fetch and hope it works.

When I try to update my iPad iOS to v4.2 I get a message saying,
"iTunes could not back up the iPad because the backup could not be saved on the computer"What has worked for some others has been to delete the existing backup file. You can delete it from iTunes>Preferences>Device Tab. However, as insurance, I would make a copy of the file before deleting it. You can find the location of the backup file here:

My iPad says I need to update iso 4.3. How do I do this
You don't.
Apple only supports updating to the latest version of ios, which is 5.1.
Plug your ipad into the computer you sync with, select the ipad icon in itunes, open the main info Window and select check for updates. -
How to make IOS 7 readable? Or how to go back to IOS 6?
I know there are tons of improvements in IOS 7, but the user interface isn't one of them. I can't read light blue against a lime green background, and I can't read white, spindly letters against a white background either. I've been tested: my color vision is normal.
I don't care for the artless flat icons, but I could put up with them if I could see them.
Is there a way to get some contrast into the UI? It looks like invisible ink right before it dries.
If there is no way to get contrast into IOS 7's UI, then I want to know how to go back to IOS 6. I really don't want to go back to IOS 6, but if I can't see the UI, I can't benefit from the features.Alesoreus Primus wrote:

That is not accurate. If you have iOS 7, and restore from an iOS 6 backup, it will restore your content but the OS will not be downgraded. -

First off, i think it's sad that i have to use my non apple device to post this question... Why has my iPad become absolutely useless after updating to iOS 8.1? I am unable to use my mini because it crashes, slow performance, major battery drain.
Restore iPad to Factory Default; do not restore from backup. It may be the cause of the problem.

No.
iOS 5.1.1 is the lastest for the iPad 1.

Try This...
Close All Open Apps... Sign Out of your Account... Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

Note:
Also consider Deleting any Apps you have Purchased / Downloaded but you now never use..
If necessary...

iPad IOS 7.0.2 and Mountain Lion 10.8.5 Calendar colors do not match between computer and device. Problem did not exist until updated IOS arrived. Colours change of their own free will despite being corrected on both iPAD and MacBook Pro. Any answers?
Please do not post the entire messages log as it takes up unnecessarily a lot of space. It seems that there is a corrupt/nonfunctional file called

Go to your hard drive, enter library, go into users, and go into launch agents and delete the thing above. Empty the trash and restart. -
