Ipad ios 4.2 update error - "there was a problem downloading the software..
Hi All -
Super excited to get 4.2.1 up and running. I had the buggy beta of 4.2 running on my iPad but now when I try to restore my iPad to get the most recent version of 4.2.1 running, I get this error:
"There was a problem downloading the software for the iPad. The requested resource was not found.
I've restarted iTunes and the computer and I'm still getting the same error. I've looked for the .ipsw file online but can't seem to find it anywhere. It's not an Apple's Support/Downloads section either.
Anyone know where to download the new update? I'm dying without Airplay, Airprint and so on not working here.
Thanks!
CH
Hi,
this should have been addressed by Apple I guess, but luckily we found out the solution in the company. Yesterday all our iPads (with 4.2 beta iOS for dev) stopped working, displayed the Connect to iTunes scrren and throw errors when trying to sync like 'The requested resource was not found' (when tried to Restore) and Error Code: 0xE800005D (when iTunes first just tried to reinstall apps).
Here is what we did to reanimate all four iPads in the company:
First you need to enter Recovery mode with the iPad, then recover the iOS software (probably the latest). Here is how to do it:
1) Fire up iTunes on your computer, and plug in the USB cable in the computer, but not in the iPad!
2) Do a hard reset, ie. press and hold down Sleep/Wake and Home buttons simultaneously, don't bother with the switch off prompt, just keep pushing the buttons.
3) When the screen goes blank, but before the Apple logo comes up, release the Sleep/Wake button and quickly plug in the USB into the iPad too. Keep pushing the Home button, until the Recovery mode dialog in iTunes comes up.
4) Act according to the prompts, and wait for the image to download and extract (can be 10-15 minutes depending on your internet connection, the image is some 550Mb).
That's it, you can safely restore your apps and other content to your recovered iPad.
Hope this helps,
David

"iPad update Error- There was a problem downloading the software for the iPad X you do not have enough access privileges for this operation. Make sure your network settings are correct and your connection is active, or try again." is the error. The rest of iTunes, sycning, and ipad operations work. I am on OSX 10.6.8. iTunes is the most recent addition.
I've been having this problem for a while but it has yet to go away. Any help please?OK. Good. The most likely culprit is either your firewall or anti-virus software. Temporarily disable both while you are doing the update (then, of course, turn them back on when you are done).

I keep getting the error "there was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone. The host is down?
Thanks so much for your reply. In the meantime, everything else is working. I called Apple support and they were very unhelpful, wanted to charge me for support on a phone I'm trying to get rid of to upgrade to the iPhone 5, but, I can't get rid of it until I synch it to my computer.... Any suggestions to see what's blocking it?

IOS 5 on 3Gs iPhone,There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone
I have attemepted to update my iPhone 3Gs 8-10 times now over the past three days and keep getting the following error message:
There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone " My iPhone". The network connection timed out.
Make sure your network settings asre correct and your netowrk connections are active, or try again later.
This is after i wait 45-60min for iOS 5 to download each time.Hi,
I am having the same problem as eimaj311 - and I dont have Kaspersky. I would like to believe that the error is not even related to network speed. I understand there would be a high demand on the servers - but this would have been anticipated and addressed - if so why the error message. I think downloading 700Mb would have been easier if iTunes can save whatever was downloaded and resume from that point in the event an error occurs.
In the mean time I am doomed - looks like the timeout error messages are there to stay. -
Hi,
I tried to downgrade my iphone4s os from ios6 (beta 4) to ios 5.0.1(factory settings).
but all the time i am getting the following error.
"there was a problem downloading the software for the iphone "rams's iPhone" "
pls help me to downgrade my device.
I am from india, ios6 maps are not at all working for india so i want to go for old version so that i can have google maps.
Regards
RamYou couldn't go back to 5.0.1 even if you wanted to, it would have to be 5.1.1 but if you had a signed copy of the iOS 6 beta on your iPhone I don't believe you can go back.
You can try Google to see if you can find a workaround. Despite the map issue, if you are a developer don't you need the Beta on your iPhone? -
Please can someone help me with my error message. I cannot download the new software IOS 5.0.1. My phone is double slow now..
Disable your firewall and antivirus software while you do the download and update. (Guessing you are using a Windows PC)

cheersHi Guys,
I have the sam problem just upgrading to iOs6.0.1. iTunes returns the following error:
Ive tried updating via my device (New iPad) and same problem.
I started downloading the update last week but stopped it for reasons I cannot remember. Now it seems that Ive clogged my system.
My iTunes is up to date. I have however not run any Quicktime or iCloud updates cause i do not use the software. Will it make a difference.
Also my Windows updates might be a bit outdated, say about a month or so.
Please help, very frustrating!
Also sorry but while Im here I have another question. A while ago the brightness level of my iPad adjusted by itself (not Auto Adjust). Its like it dimmed via Auto Adjust and did not "un-dim" and now Im forced to run brightness at 100% and consequently is hard on battery life. Any ideas? -
When trying to download and update the operating system software for my iPad and iPod I get the following message - "ERROR MESSAGE" There was a problem downloading the software for the iPad "Mikki's iPad". The network connection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again. later." Is this a setting on my computer - my network is working fine. I didn't have any trouble before but have just started having trouble. Please help...
Hi Robertfrom Denver.
Did you try the solution given, and if yes, did it work?
I have done several "attempted downloads, and see the full file download, typically taking 30 minutes to complete, and then something goes wrong.
I am happy to suspend AV and FW software, but would like to know if it is a good fix or not first?

I cant seem to be able to update to iOS 6.1 through my PC for my iPhone 5...The error reads: 'There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone 'Thomas Honiball'. You do not have permission to access the requested resource".... please help!!
Only developer's have access to iOS 6 now. Thus, if you are a developer you have have access to the developer's forum for iOS 6.
Otherwise you have a bootleg copy and are on yur own./ -
I am trying to update to iOS5 on my iPad 2, but after the download completes, and file processing starts, I get an error message "There was a problem downloading the software ... the network connection timed out." Diagnostic tests check out OK. Any suggestions?
Temporarily disable your firewall and security software and see if that helps.
