IPad IOS 4.2 Update Issues (Help)

My 2010 Macbook pro's hard drive died on me last week. I have a new HD on the way and plan to restore via Time backups. No biggie.
I have a Windows XP laptop that I use for work. In order to update my iPad to the new IOS 4.2, (while I wait for my Macbook Pro to get back online), I downloaded iTunes onto this PC laptop. iPad connected fine and began the "update" to iOS 4.2 when suddenly I get a message saying that the iPad was disconnected. I believe the process got to the point of installing the iOS 4.2 - everything seemed to be working fine up until iTunes says that the iPad was disconnected.
Ok, so then I unplug the iPad. Upon reconnecting, the iPad's screen has the iTunes's logo with the USB cable and an arrow. This time, no iPad connection to iTunes.
I've tried hard resetting, nothing happens. Goes from Apple logo to the iTunes/USB icon suggesting that I need to plug it in. I tried everything including plugging iPad directly to laptop's built-in USB. I tried restarting iPod services on the laptop. I reinstalled iTunes. Tried different cables. Tried plugging the iPad into its wall charger and hard resetting it - no succes, it simply goes from Apple logo to iTunes/USB logo.
Not sure what else to try. I hope I have not lost anything.
Anyone else have the same or similar issues? I would appreciate any advice.

I'm facing similar problem. Now trying to Restore to factory defaults which itself is frustrating with network disconnect message and downloading iPAD Software Update all over again and again...It is a new iPAD2 ... not even used it for a day.

  • IOS 5 software update - please help!

    Hi
I opted to update my iPhone 4 last night to the IOS 5 software. I have had my iPhone for over a year with no problems including previous seamless software updates.
40 minutes into the update my iPhone gets turned off (as you would expect) and then gets restarted. A message appears saying "The SIM card inserted into this iPhone does not appear to be supported". The same message appears on my actual iPhone. I was advised to do a 'restore' to the original settings but because itunes will no longer accept the phone due the "non supported" SIM card I can't even access anything regarding the phone from the drop down menu.
ANY advise would be gratefully received.
    Thanks

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. For the iPad Mini the iOS is 6.0.2. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

  • Ipad ios 4.2 update error - "there was a problem downloading the software..

    Hi All -
Super excited to get 4.2.1 up and running. I had the buggy beta of 4.2 running on my iPad but now when I try to restore my iPad to get the most recent version of 4.2.1 running, I get this error:
"There was a problem downloading the software for the iPad. The requested resource was not found.
I've restarted iTunes and the computer and I'm still getting the same error. I've looked for the .ipsw file online but can't seem to find it anywhere. It's not an Apple's Support/Downloads section either.
Anyone know where to download the new update? I'm dying without Airplay, Airprint and so on not working here.
    Thanks!
    CH

    Hi,
this should have been addressed by Apple I guess, but luckily we found out the solution in the company. Yesterday all our iPads (with 4.2 beta iOS for dev) stopped working, displayed the Connect to iTunes scrren and throw errors when trying to sync like 'The requested resource was not found' (when tried to Restore) and Error Code: 0xE800005D (when iTunes first just tried to reinstall apps).
Here is what we did to reanimate all four iPads in the company:
First you need to enter Recovery mode with the iPad, then recover the iOS software (probably the latest). Here is how to do it:
    1) Fire up iTunes on your computer, and plug in the USB cable in the computer, but not in the iPad!
    2) Do a hard reset, ie. press and hold down Sleep/Wake and Home buttons simultaneously, don't bother with the switch off prompt, just keep pushing the buttons.
    3) When the screen goes blank, but before the Apple logo comes up, release the Sleep/Wake button and quickly plug in the USB into the iPad too. Keep pushing the Home button, until the Recovery mode dialog in iTunes comes up.
    4) Act according to the prompts, and wait for the image to download and extract (can be 10-15 minutes depending on your internet connection, the image is some 550Mb).
That's it, you can safely restore your apps and other content to your recovered iPad.
    Hope this helps,
    David

As your problem is completely different than the original post, it would be both more effective and more polite to start your own thread with a properly descriptive subject line.
    Best of luck.

  • Bluetooth and JBL Flip not pairing since IOS 8.1 update-Please Help

After last IOS update (8.1) for iPhone 5 my JBL flip suddenly stopped pairing with the Bluetooth in my phone. I tried the forget this device to reinstall connection which usually works, but this did not work and I have attempted several times over the past week to no avail. It recognizes device but then will not pair with it, then it disappears from the Bluetooth device menu on my phone. Anyone know of a patch of fix? JBL tech's report it's an APPLE issue. All I know is I'm going nuts not having any music in my office. PLEASE HELP.

For others who have this same problem, before using deggie's solution, which is more drastic since it will force you to lose all pairings and wi-fi passwords, first try this: On the iPhone go to Settings>Bluetooth, then forget your JBL pairing. Then with the JBL Flip, turn it on by hitting the power button once, then put it into pairing mode by holding the power button down until it flashes red and blue alternately. You should see the pairing established on you iPhone. If the iPhone asks for a pairing code (it may not), it is 0000.

    Hi Aniruuthan,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your iPhone is not recording sound along with video, I recommend these troubleshooting steps:
Make sure nothing is plugged in to the jack connector.
Make sure nothing is blocking any of the microphones (see the pictures below to locate the microphones on your device)
Make sure none of the microphones is obstructed by dirt or debris.
Turn the iPhone off and then on.

  • IOS 5.1 Update Issue: Contacts exist, but do not appear with incoming call or text

Alrighty; I just purchased the iPhone 4s and last night was prompted to upgrade to IOS 5.1.  After doing so, I noticed today any incoming calls from one of my contacts would not display the name (the number was displayed as if it was an unknown call).  However, text messages displayed contact information.  I was playing around with it and based on suggestions elsewhere I added a '1' before some numbers.  Upon doing this, an incoming call would display the name of the caller but incoming texts would not. A call to support directed me to call Verizon (my carrier) for 'some sort of three digit code' which would correct the issue; alas, Verizon had no clue.  I'm at a loss and any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Is this forum only for the US? Maybe I'm intruding here by posting this?
Not only the Verizon version unfortunately. We have the same problem here in some parts of the Middle East. I have heard reports from Kuwait and Bahrain, and I'm located in Oman and the problem exists here as well. And no solution except downgrading the phone back to iOS 4.3.5.

Honda said they can't release updates to match Apple's.
What this really comes down to is that Honda (and other manufacturers) make their system work with the iOS release at the time and take a gamble that Apple won't make any changes that effectively "breaks" the functionality. As stated before, car manufacturers can let Apple know or they can make changes to their own system. Of course even if they let Apple know, there may be a reason that the change isn't made in the final iOS release and the reasons behind it will probably never be publicly disclosed. If manufacturers want to make sure their systems are fully compatible for now and in the future, they need to make the firmware fully updatable through USB or some other means (I know at one point Blu-ray players could be updated by burning the firmware update to a CD and then inserting the disc in the player). My guess is that you're correct that most likely Honda isn't going to release these type of updates as it adds expense and development to a system that isn't critical to a car's functionality.
What manufacturers should be doing is to advise users to not update their iOS version prior to them testing it themselves. If they find that an update breaks the functionality then they should advise current owners of the issues they will have by updating the iOS. Then it would be up to the user to decide to wait for a fix/workaround, or decide if the new or changed features of the new version are worth "breaking" your car system.

  • IPhone is not working, incomplete iOS 6.01 update please help

I just did an update tot iOS 6.01, but now the iphone is competely dead, I just have connector icon, and nothig else. The question is, what to do

Try unplugging your iPhone, then restarting your computer and iTunes.  Then plug your phone back in.  This worked for me on the iPhone 5 and using a Windows 7 PC.  I did have to wipe my device but I was then able to restore it using iCloud.  I had the same issue updating my wife's iPhone 4s and did the same thing.  It took hitting "restore" several times for it to finally work, but it eventually did.  This is the second iOS update that hasn't worked as expected (the upgrade to iOS 6 deleted all my music and screwed up my music app/I had to restore several times to get it working correctly).  I like Apple stuff, but what ever happend to "It just works?"
