IPad iOS 5.1 keeps resetting to pass code screen

Hi,
I updated my iPad to ios5.1 successfully, so I thought.  Since updating the iPad it intermittently resets itself to the pass code screen, it can be in the middle of something or when trying to open an app.  The screen will go black with the round timer and up comes the pass code screen.  I have tried a soft reset (home and off key), with no change.  Any ideas please?
Thanks in advance,
Jason

I have this exact same problem. I notice it intermittently when I press the home button twice. I took my IPad to the apple store. Its an I termittant problem.  I wonder if Apple will be able to look into this.

Try erasing the device using iCloud.com - assuming that you were using iCloud and the Find my iPhone app on the device.

YOU CAN ALSO FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.

    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note:
    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
    2. If you did not do step 4 properly, start all over again.

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.

  • Sound on my ipad only works when I enter my pass code and when I play games. But when I typed, however, or try to listen to music/YouTube/Netflix, the sound doesn't work. When I double tap and go to the task manager, the volume slider has no dot. Help?

I did not have this problem earlier today. I haven't dropped it recently or any such thing. I have, however, used two different audio jacks today. Although it makes keyboard sounds when I type in my pass code, it doesn't make the sounds otherwise. I also tested the sound on temple run and it worked. My slider key is set to mute, not to lock screen. When I try to adjust the volume, it'll say "sound effects" and the volume will be turned all the way down, but it won't let me turn it up. I got this iPad in December and unfortunately did not purchase AppleCare and I believe the warranty has passed. Any suggestions as to what's wrong?

    Try A and B
    (A) Restart iPad
    1. Hold down the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
    2. Drag the slider to turn off iPad.
    3. Turn iPad back on, hold down the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears
    (B) Reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected.

  • Lost my iphone ios 7.2.0 with a pass code an iCloud activate the thing is who ever finds my phone puts it on DFU mode and restore it I'm aware he can do that but can't use it without my iCloud will I be able to track the phone if connected to wifi

Lost my phone it had ios 7.2.0 with pass code and I cloud  I'm aware it can be restore on DFU mode but can't use it if they don't have the iCloud user if and password the phones linked with. Question is in this process if the person connects it to his or her wifi to setup up the phone will I be able to track the phone after the restore ? Even though he can't use it because he has no Id no password

You can do nothing if it's not online. With a passcode and iOS 7.1 (there is no 7.2) the device is uselss because it cannot be erased except by you.
