IPad iOS 8.1 Mail constant network use draining battery
Since updating to iOS 8.1, iPad Mail is rapidly draining my battery. When I go into Mail the network usage indicator (spinning wheel) runs constantly. I left it this way by mistake while traveling and it drained the whole battery with minimal actual usage in one day -- I usually only have to recharge every 2-3 days.
I have checked the battery usage indicator in Settings and it shows that in the last 24 hours Mail used 54% of the battery. I had changed no settings, but went into Mail & Calendar settings and double-checked them, and they were as they had always been. I have three email accounts: Gmail, Verizon, and a company account on an Exchange server. It's the only one that was set to Push, but now I've set it to Fetch like the others and it still continuously accesses the network when I'm in Mail.
This must be a bug of some kind introduced by a recent OS or app update, right? This never happened before, and nothing else has changed in my usage of the iPad or Mail.
One other issue: Mail is not actually fetching new mail when it should. I see new mail show up on Mac Mail hours before it appears on the iPad. Normally email would arrive almost simultaneously on my iPhone and iPad, then a moment later on the Mac. Now the phone is still first, but the iPad lags. The only way I can get the iPad to refresh in real time is to close the app and restart it.
Is anyone else seeing this behavior with the recent update? Any idea how to fix it?

Short version, remove your Exchange account, shut down phone, restart, add the Exchange account back. Problem solved.

My battery problem woes continues to persist. Yesterday, I had about 85-90% battery life in the morning. A couple hours later when I looked at the phone it was down to 65%. At that point, I shut off wi-fi, bluetooth, and background app refresh. I received one call shortly after that. The call lasted about two minutes. My battery was now down to 40%. Another hour later, down to 16%! Here's the kicker: I plugged in the phone to a charger and it jumped to 65% in a matter of minutes. I unplugged the phone and within a couple of hours it was back down to around 30%. I plugged it in again and within 10 minutes it was up to 75%.
At first glance it looks very much like a hardware issue. However, I never had this problem until I upgraded to 7.0.4. Also, the above battery roller coaster ride isn't a constant. That is, it seems that only sometimes this happens. So...I'm thinking it's either an app running in the background eating up juice (though I have Background App Referesh turned off) or the iOS is buggy. -
I create the WiFi network using the internet sharing option in my Macbook Pro from a local ethernet connection..and set the HTTP proxy settings in my new iPad.Siri runs like a charm on an other WiFi connection which doesnt require proxy but on my University connection it says that it cant handle any requests right now..
We were having the same problem here at the School I work at. By looking at some traffic logs and doing some internal testing, it appears Siri attempts to make a direct connection to the outside network using HTTPS (port 443), without using any of the proxy settings you may have configured on the Wifi network.
We've reported it as a bug to Apple but haven't heard anything back yet.
To get around it in the meantime you'll have to punch a hole in your firewall to allow Siri traffic through.
Currently Siri appears to contact IP address 17.174.4.14 over port 443. The IP address may change in the future, but that will at least get you up and going for now. We went ahead and opened the entire 17.174.4.0/24 network, as the entire block of addressess is owned by Apple.
Again, there is no gaurentee that this will not change in the future and break again.

Yahoo mail continues to check mail stuck in loop, drains battery, heats up.
Using Yahoo mail on an iPhone 3GS with iOS4 then upgraded to iOS4.0.1, same issue.
Set Yahoo mail (pop) and it seems to check mail the checking mail spins, then it seems to start looping checking mail, it seems that it finds a different # of message that need to be loaded in. As an example, it will flash just below the message in the inbox:
Load more messages...:
39 total, 2 unread
Then checks mail again and flashes the same "Load Messages..." but the # are a bit different 34 total, 4 unread, flashes, then loops again back to the Load more messages... 39 total, 2 unread
Also, when I try and delete messages it will say unable to move message to trash and then the attempted "deleted" messages will pop back into the inbox of all messages.
And also sometimes it will when I try and go into the "all boxes" the message will be there, then disappear and then re appear later, or while I am reading the 1st unread message it will attempt to refresh and all the messages dis appear then quickly re appear. All this crazy mail has happened since the iOS4 & 4.0.1 update. besides being a total drag, the looping is killing the battery and heats up the iPhone in my pocket and when I hold it the unit is hotter on the backside????/I have had the same problem - especially when out and about with 3G on. Turning the phone off and then on again [press and hold the power button] does work every time but it is a bit of a pain.
The other way is to press and hold the home button which will kill the last app [email] running or the one you are in. I've found that maneuver stops the program from continuing to check for mail and running down the battery. It is less effective at getting mail to connect properly again.
I have not found it necessary to delete and add accounts and so forth. -
How to use one iPad on multiple computers on different networks using one AppleID
Hi everybody.
I'm living in two places, 250 km distant, both equiped with PCs, one running Windows 7 and the other Windows XP. They run last version of iTunes ans I use the same Apple Id.
As one is the backup of the other, both have all the videos I'd like to broadcast on may iPad (not enough place, so no download). Some of them are TV shows I bought from iTunes, other one are personnal videos.
All was perfect on the first PC (the one running Windows 7) until I activate the same setups on the second one. Now all is fine on that PC, but home sharing on the first one doesn't work anymore. When I open Videos (the application) on iPad, the only thing I see on the menu is "TV show", wich allow me to download the TV shows I bought. I guess they are donwloaded from Internet, not from the computer running iTunes on the local network. And I don't see anymore the "shared" menu I saw before that allow me to broascast personnal videos.
The Apple support say that what I'd like to do is not supported yet, but I'm not shure they really understand my configuration.
Does anybody use successfully the same configuration, or did someone encounter the same problem ?
Thank'sI do not understand the qestion. When you get a CC subscription you get it for specific software... or you can get a plan that covers multiple applications.

IOS 6.1.2 for iPhone 4s draining battery?
I downloaded iOS 6.1.2 for my iPhone 4s a few days ago when my phone told me it was time to update. Now all I get is 17 minutes of usage and 6 hours of standby when I used to get at least 18 hours of standby and 6 hours of usage before my phone needed a charge. This is very frustrating. My phone is 8 months old. I don't use mail on it. I've seen some people have problems with mail being the reason why their battery drains. I lock my phone when I'm done using it, I have the brightness down, I go through and delete background activity every couple days. This shouldn't be happening. Does anyone else have this problem and has anything fixed it?

IPhone 3G always in use, drains battery
My iPhone 3G is constantly in use and it drains the battery within about four hours. I know it is always in use because I went to Settings > General > Usage and the Usage statistic was equal to the amount of time that I had pulled it off the charger (ex. 48 minutes). The standby time was also the same figure (48 minutes). I did some testing by switching the phone into Airplane Mode. This fixes the problem. For instance, after five minutes, the usage statistic was (48 minutes) and the standby statistic was (53 minutes). In a longer example I did yesterday in airplane mode, the usage was 2 minutes and the standby was 14 hours 20 minutes.
So far, I have tried to solve the problem by trying the following:
1) Turning off 3G and just relying on Edge.
2) Turning mail Fetch settings off, setting all mail (one gmail account, one Exchange account) options to Manual
3) Turning WiFi off
4) Turning Bluetooth off
5) Turning Location Services off
None of these have solved the problem. My problem is not a battery life issue because the phone keeps a charge when I'm in airplane mode. This started all of the sudden about a week ago. I have not downloaded any new applications recently.

I would have thought that setting the Fetch option to Manual would stop all push notifications from Exchange. So the idea to adjust the settings on the email client seem redundant. Regardless, the Exchange server is my company's server and they wouldn't let me adjust settings.

I think you're on the right track with wondering whether this is an update issue or the phone. That's my suspicion. My phone worked fine before updating the phone software.

Yes, I tried a Restore (as new) in iTunes. No luck.
I didn't attempt to try any other solutions because I just caved and bought a new phone while also switching from AT&T to Verizon. I'm not happy about this solution, but it did solve the problem. So, that would be evidence that kittiposte's conspiracy theory may have something to it. Good luck to the rest of you who are still struggling with this issue. I'd be interested to hear if everyone else broke down and just got a new phone, too. -
My iPad 4 does not show up on my TV screen when in AirPlay mirroring mode using WiFi. The iPad displays AirPlay set to TV with the Mirroring On (green).
My iPad IOS software is 8.2 and my Apple TV software is at 7.1. The TV displays the Apple Menu. The “Settings” does however displays the General menu allowing me to see:

Signal Strength shows 5 circles.
It does not display the iPad screen but when I use the BT Sport App I can hear the sound but there is no video. I have searched the internet for a solution to no avail. Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
Restart your mobile device.

After downloading iOS 8.1.3, I lost the use of messaging, face time and shortly there after my e-mail. I changed and reset everything I could on my I-Pad... same result. It can't be my router or my provider, for my I-Pod touch works fine. Any suggestions? Thanks, Val

As I understand it, you are not able to use iMessage, FaceTime or any email service on your phone. Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

Can't send mail from iPad but IPhone is sending. Outgoing servers are set up exactly the same. I closed both safari and mail on the iPhone to try and avoid conflicts with iPad. I also shut down and restarted iPad. Still won't send.
Usually it's because you are not making internet connection via wifi.

Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
