IPad / iPhone data only plan options?

Hi everyone,
Summary: I have an inhetited iPhone 3GS with no data or voice plan, no contract (ex-AT&T phone, was upgraded to new 4S), fresh install, and an iPad 2. I would like to use around 500mb - 2GB of data a month on both devices combined. I would like to use the iPhone 3GS as an emergency 911 phone. What should I do?
Background: I inherited the iPhone 3GS from my wife, bought the iPad new. I'm a programmer, so I don't mind setting up complicated installs, but I've never had a cell phone, so I don't know how plans work and what is available. My only phone number / phone line is Skype (and Google voice) and I'm perfectly happy with that. I'd like to be able to make Skype calls over 3G on the iPhone 3GS. I live in Southern California, and I find AT&T 3G coverage to be quite good in the areas I frequent, so I am happy enough with that (though would consider anything, and would love to ditch AT&T due to hilariously poor customer service).
Thank you for your help. I did do extensive searches on this topic over the last few months, but I just can't figure out the current lay of the land.
Questions:
Plans: I would like basic email and the occasional Skype call from my iPhone 3GS and iPad 2. I could get by with 500mb a month total on both devices. What is my best option for a plan? Is there any way I can get a combined plan? I don't mind paying $25 for the 2GB from ATT, but I don't want to pay $50 or $55 to have data on both devices.
Sharing: Can I tether iPad to iPhone or vice-versa?
911: I want to be able to call 911 from the iPhone. Is that a given, or do I need to do anything special?
Voice: Is there some kind of super-cheap, pay-as-you-go iPhone-compatible voice plan these days? Yes, I have googled, but results for the iPhone 3GS are either very out of date or say it is not possible. This isn't necessary, but would be nice.
SIMS: Do the iPhone 3GS and the iPad have compatible SIMS? If so, is that useful in any way to me?
So basically, I just want a very minimal, limited, à la carte data plan for each device. Seems like that should be doable for $25 a month or so, but I'm not seeing it. Thanks!

I tested this: I sent ipad messages (using message app already on ipad) and sent messages to my own iphone 6 and my husbands ipad and someone elses iphone and then to an ANDROID phone, and it worked perfectly ( gave me a code to enter to do it) but when I tried sending to android phone off of my husbands ipad mini, it did red error message saying not delivered. same household, same wifi in same room, so I cannot figure out why his won't go through to android but mine will. bought ipad mini's same year, same model except one(his) data only, but both use same wifi (home) what do I need to do to make his send those text messages? that is what is actually being sent, text messages from the apple message app on both. please advise step by step and no I don't use cellular data on mine, just wifi).

text messages from iPad are actually sent from iPhone.
on iPhone, go to Settings > Messages
if you have the same Apple ID signed in from other devices, you should see a "Text Message Forwarding", tap and you will see a switch for other devices.
1. so just make sure your husband's iPhone and iPad are both updated to the latest iOS 8.
2. sign in iMessage from Settings on both devices with the same Apple ID.
3. check the "Text Message Forwarding" option on iPhone, follow the tips given to complete.

There is a data only plan available for smartphones, but it requires proof of hearing impairment in order to qualify. The plan is $54.99 for unlimited text and data with a charge of $.25 per minute for voice calls.

When i am trying to spool the data with data only excel option using crystal reports XI, the records are appearing in two rows instead of single row. i have studied that when we use data only excel option entire record will be displayed in a single row,but it is not appearing in that way.Please help me out in fixing this bug. I am very much new to crytal reports.

All the field are of same size and height. The format is fine. The report is designed in such a way that data is displayed in three detail sections. What i would like to have is " i want the data in these three sections to be displayed in a single row when i select the data only excel export option".Please help me out in fixing this issue.

Transferring Certain iPad/iPhone Data from MBP to a new MBA

Hello:
Long story short is I have a new iPad and an iPhone 4s currently synced to my late 2009 MBP. I will be selling this machine here this week after doing a clean install of Lion and am trying to find a working solution to transfer just my iTunes data (device backups, device data, all apps and their data) to my newer MBA in as painless a manner as possible.
I know migration assistant will tranfer all applications and settings over from a time machine backup by my current MBP is extremely overcrowded with applications and software that I'm looking to "start fresh" on the air and would just like the iTunes data (not to mention the available internal space on my Air's SSD won't accomodate all the applications currently on my Pro. I have had my MBA for several months so it is essentially already set up I'm just trying to get the iTunes library data (primarily the iPhone and iPad specific things) over to the MBA somehow.
I'm trying to avoid the "this device is currently synced to an old machine and all current data will be deleted if you sync to this machine, do you want to proceed?" messages. I have no problem temporarily wiping the devices out so long as I can do a restore on them (IE somehow get the phone and iPad backup files from my old computer transfered and have them work on my new MBA)
I haven't been using the cloud for backups prior. I can turn this feature on to get a cloud backup but will the cloud backup then transfer my apps and data from the cloud into my MBA or will they just stay in the cloud?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Why do my pictures transfer through photostream between IOS devices but not my PC i have 830 pictures on my ipad/iphone but only 37 on my pc

I have 830photos on my ipad which have synced with my iphone but they do not sync with my computer (PC). some of the ones on my PC did sync a long time ago but now they dont. can you help with this. once before I had ths problem and had to unistall the cloud and re-install to get the pictures to sync. This is a pain and I realy dont fell I should have to keep doing this.

If I go to the My Account Settings (clicking on my name on the Home page of iCloud) the Apple ID indicates [email protected]
That is not my Apple ID (at least as far as I am concerned!)
As I indicated, my iCloud email account in the iCloud web page only shows a few very old emails, none more recent than early August.
The iCloud control panel on my PC is the most current as of today.
Keep the ideas coming.

One site does not load on iPad/iPhone when only few port like 80, 443 and 53 are allowed

Hi All,
I have a router which does port blocking allows access through certain ports only. The allowed port list include 80,8080,443 and 53 however I cannot seem to be able to connect to www.argos.co.uk using safari on iPad and iPhone. Both runs iOs 8.3. Access to other sites works without any problem.
Access to www.argos.co.uk site works fine when accessed through Android or Windows devices through the same router. Any idea what could be the problem ?

I can replicate this problem on a number of other sites!
If I lock the router to just use the main ports like 80, 8080, 443 & 53 and use an Apple device to view www.diy.com or www.boots.com the sites take 10 times longer to load than when the router has all its ports open. I have tried a MacBook, iPad and iPhone with Safari and another browser.
If I do the same tests using Microsoft or Android devices the sites load quickly with the routers ports locked on unlocked.
Does this suggest that Apple are relying on non essential ports for web traffic?

If you have made no changes to the configurations of your mail clients within the last week or so - some time well prior to when things stopped working - then please contact your ISP for assistance troubleshooting the failing account.

Convert Family Plan Line to data only line for iPad

I currently have 4 lines on verizons old family share plan. 3 are Iphones. 2 of them have unlimited data, 1 with 2GBs a month, and the other line is a basic phone that doesn't get used much and does not have a data plan attached. I dont want to touch the 2 with unlimited data or the one with 2GB of data. The 4th line is a basic line and has a contract till Feb 2014. My bill avg 250.00 with the 4 lines, 2000 min, unlimited text and the data plans that are on it now. All together, we avg about 12 GB a month and durring the summer, it has gone as high as 20GB Our family uses Pandora, SlingBox apps, and Netflix, quite abit and although we have Internet and WiFi at home, and use WiFi when ever possible, living in a small town, free hotspots are hard to come by.
I have a Verizon Ipad 3 with LTE that its deactivated due to low use outside a WiFi network but for convenice sake, I might reactivate it. But to finish out the 4th line (basic phone line) contract, can swap that 4th voice line to the iPad 3 with LTE, finish out the 4th line contract? I know I would have no problem adding data to the 4th line, getting a 4g sim so i would be looking at 9.99 + 30.00 for 2gbs for a total of 40.00 for that line.
What I was hoping for was to just get a data only plan on the iPad and not pay a ETF on the 4th line since that line would still be active, just only on a data only plan. I do understand that tablets only have tiered data plans availble to them.

As long as the line remains in service during the life of the contract, you can pretty much do whatever you want with it.

Missing report headers when exporting to XLS Data Only

Hello all,
I searched for this topic and was unable to find a similar one!
I have a report that's very long.. (Page Setup:User Defined)
When I export to Excel Data Only, with option of: Custom: Data is exported according to selected options, the output shows some headers only and skips many.
I tried going into Design view and putting grids around each feild so that they don't overlap.
How can I fix this issue?

Go to FILE->Export->Report Export Options then select Excel Data Only option from the Format drop down window then press ok.
Check page headers and footer check box and press ok.
This should set the options to export report header and footers.

I'm using Crystal Report version 12.1.0.892
I'm trying to export reports to 'Microsoft Excel (97-2003) Data-only' (an option I use all of the time), and am getting the message "Failed to export the report."
It only started this week. I can export to "'Microsoft Excel (97-2003)" (and PDF, etc.) without incident, but it's not what I want.
I have not made any changes to Crystal Reports, but have applied updates to Microsoft Windows XP (ver 2002, SP 3).
Any ideas?

I'm having the same error and have a subreport with 3 groups. The subreport data being returned is all in the Details section. All other sections of the sub are suppressed.
I can export the main report fine (it's just headers). I can also drill into the sub and export that fine, but of course get back only limited data. When I try to export the whole thing it chokes.
Any thoughts?

#1. Understand that if you switch carriers, you can NOT take your existing iPhone with you. It won't work. You will need to purchase a new one.
#2. Your only choices are Sprint and Verizon. Decide who has the better coverage in your area. Keep in mind that you will NOT be able to get simultaneous voice and 3G data on either of these, as their CDMA networks do not support it. The U.S. T-Mobile network is not supported and is not fully compatible with the iPhone as it operates on a rarely used frequency compared to the rest of the world.
#3. What in the world are "niners"? Do you mean you want to be able to keep your existing "phone numbers"? If so, that should be no problem. Most numbers in the US are now portable.
#4. Consider WHY you want to switch. If the issue is really price, you're not going to see much of a difference. A few dollars a month at best for comparable voice and data plans.

You will need at least a professional DPS account. Creative Cloud allows only single edition iPad apps.
