IPad, iPhone image display order from Aperture

When I used to sync from iPhoto, the images were displayed in the same order as the iPhoto album.
Now that I'm syncing from Aperture, the images are being displayed in Filename order. How can I change it so the iPad displays in date order? Is there something I need to do when creating the album?

No, it just seems to be a bug. I have been reporting it to apple some months ago now i think.
It took them 2-3 weeks to understand the issue and aknowledge its a bug.
nothing has moved every since, i am pretty fed up because all my pictures are very mixed up
please do use the aperture-feedback page. i dont get the feeling apple is working on this issue.

Does iTunes sync metadata when syncing photos to an iPad/iPhone? I am using Aperture v3 as my photo library.

This might sound weird, but here's an idea which worked for me re music that was newly added to itunes and showed up in my ipod but wouldn't play - I simply played the tracks in itunes first, just a second of time or so will do it, not the whole track, then connect the ipod and sync again and this time they played - hope this helps.

  • Failed to obtain image version information from Aperture library

Mac OS X 10.10.1 (yes, Yosemite...)
    Aperture 3.6
    Lightroom 5.7,1 (CC version)
When trying to import some libraries from aperture I get this immediate response "Failed to obtain image version information from Aperture library".
In the plug-in import window, Number of image/video files is "undetermined", as well as Disk space required.
Tried with different Aperture libraries, but with the same negative result.
The plug-in worked in previous Lightroom version or when it was a stand alone plug-in.
    Thnak you

OK, here is the workaround I did to migrate all my images.
    1. I broke down my Aperture library into separate libraries based on year (highlight all the 2014 projects, for example, right click, and "export to library")
    2. Import each separate library into Lightroom, one at a time.
    3. Delete the year-based libraries - and leave your original library on the drive (in case you need it in the future).
I found I had one project in my 2013 photos which was causing Lightroom's scan of my database to fail. So I ended up creating metadata riders for that one project and imported it after I got the rest of my images imported.

  • Photo album - image display order

I just figured out how to get a (massive) photo album onto my 3GS (iOS4) but the order the images are displayed in appears to be random. Is there a way to have the photos displayed in chronological order?
    Thanks.
(and now I have just noticed that there is no longer any content in the iPod app, where just before the sync, there was about 10GB. When I hook the phone back up to iTunes, the summary page shows the audio and video correctly, but there is nothing accessible on the phone.)

It seems that iOS devices (or is it just my iPhone 4?) order the photos by file name in stead of not by date. The solution is to rename the photos in Aperture (or iPhoto) based on the date and time taken. In Aperture you can batch change your photos and select version name format: Image Date/Time. It worked! All photos are in order.
Not sure if similar batch renaming is possible in iPhoto, though. Personally, I think the photo order on iOS devices should be based on date and time.

  • PS CS5 Image Display Differs From Used ICC Profile In Win 7

    Hi,
on my Windows 7 Ultimate x64 machine, I just calibrated my Dell SP2309W monitor using an i1DisplayPro and basICColor 5, creating a ICC v2 profile (I am aware of the problems under Windows with ICC v4 profiles).
It created the ICC profile and applied it to be used by Windows. I double checked under COLOR MANAGEMENT that the new ICC profile is being used. Although I can see that the new ICC is being used (desktop appearance changes), there are a few issues I am experiencing:
    (1.) Windows Photo Viewer
The thumbnails in Windpows Explorer look fine (they DO use the new ICC profile), when I double click a jpeg and open the image it DOES NOT use the new ICC profile. When I click the PLAY SLIDESHOW button (starting the slideshow) in the opened image in Windows Photo Viewer, the images DO use the new ICC profile.
    (2.) Internet Browsers
All current internet browser (Firefox, IE, Safari and Chrome) DO use the new ICC profile and display the image correctly.
    (3.) Photoshop CS 5
When I open the same image - that Windows Photo Viewer does not correctly displays (according to the new ICC profile) - in Photoshop CS5, I get the same image display that Windows Photo Viewer gives me (when not thumbnail or not in slideshow mode) - it appears to be the sRGB display.
My color settings in PS CS5 are: North America General Purpose 2 > sRGB IEC 61966-2.1.
When I go to View > Proof Setup > Monitor RGB I get the image display using the new ICC profile.
Why does the image look different in PS than my calibrated monitor should output ?
I was under the impression (please correct me if I am wrong), that the sole purpose for calibrating my monitor was to get a uniform display across (ICC aware) applications. Even when one applies different color spaces to a document in PS, I thought the output on my calibrated screen done by the graphic card should always be according to my calibration and the settings in the ICC profile being used.
What Am I doing wrong or what am I misunderstanding ?
Any help or input is appreciated !
    Thanks.

    Hello,
A note on monitor calibration: calibrating your monitor will not guarentee that every application will display color correctly, it's more of a step along the pipeline, and for the preview part of a color workflow it's the last step.  Here's how color translation follows for an ICC workflow when previewing to a monitor:
Image Color Numbers > Document Tag or Workspace Profile > Monitor Profile
For non-color managed applications, if the original document is or isn't tagged with a color profile it will be translated directly to the monitor profile anyway.  This is the equivalent in Photoshop of selecting "Monitor" in soft proofing.  Selecting monitor in softproofing will bypass the tagged or workspace profile to translate colors directly through the monitor profile.
For most automatic color managed applications (like Firefox), the image will be translated through the tagged profile and then sent through the monitor profile.  If the image is untagged or the profile is unrecognized, the colors get sent directly to the monitor profile.
For Photoshop, a tagged document will have its profile respected and then sent to the monitor.  An untagged document will be assigned the workspace profile, which acts like a temporary document profile, and then gets sent to the monitor.  This is often why users will notice Photoshop behaves differently from other applications.  It's usually a case of the workspace coming into play.  By default the workspace profile is set to sRGB.  You can change this in Edit > Color Settings.
The purpose of the workspace is originally for printing workflows, as a way of keeping consistant color translations when dealing with both tagged and untagged documents.  For web output workflows it can be useful for viewing everything through sRGB, which is typical of the average monitor output (not so with newer wide-gamut monitors, another source of confusion...) combined with the fact that originally most web browsers were not color managed.  Hence viewing everything through sRGB is pretty close to what most monitors see and what untagged/unmanaged docs will look like.
Monitor calibration is useful only because it brings your monitor output to a "known state".  In traditional workflows the monitor was always a middle-man, a preview device which was useful for getting an idea of what the printed output would look like before you print it.  Since print colorspaces are often smaller than display spaces, it's feasible and useful to narrow down the monitor/display space and calibrate it to a known state, so that even if it doesn't totally match the print, you'll get used to its differences/limitations and they'll be consistent so long as the calibration is maintained.
For web output, your final output is often another user's computer monitor, which can have any form of behavior (most standard monitors are pretty close to sRGB, or use sRGB as an operating system workspace (default monitor profile).  Wide gamuts behave differently, but I'm not sure if there's a particular ICC space that they closely match, or if different wide-gamuts are even that close to each other in their display color spaces.
    Hope this helps!

  • Image files exported from Aperture do not arrive at Photoshop Elements 11

In Aperture preferences, I have nominated PSE 11 as an external editor.
When I try to send an image, I get the Adobe start-up window (even though PSE 11
is already open), but the image from Aperture does not arrive.
Can anyone suggest what I need to do, please?

The odds are that you are using the wrong file as the external editor. You want this one:
The easily visible file is the welcome screen alias.

  • Downsized images when imported from Aperture

The latest batch if images I imported into iPhoto from Aperture were somehow downsized to half the size, ie from 3888x2592 to 1944x1296.  In other words, cut in half.  This has never happened before.  Previously, the iPhoto image had the same dimensions as the image in Aperture.  Would this have something to do with Lion?  I need images with over 3000 pixels on at least one side to sell them.  Thanks.  Larryt

How did you "import into iPhoto from Aperture"?
If you're using the media browser (File -> Show Aperture Library) then what you're getting are you Aperture Previews. The size of these is set in your Aperture Preferences.
If you exported from Aperture then the export preset you used in Aperture is what defines the size of the image.
So, no, this has nothing to do with Lion and only to do with the settings you are using in Aperture.
I can't help but wonder though, why you are using iPhoto at all, if you use Aperture. Is this complexity necessary?

  • IPad can't view photos from Aperture?

I'm not new at any of this but can't for the life of me figure this one out....
I might take this post to the Aperture discussions, but it involves the iPad. so I want to try this community as well.
I imported my images, ran my workflow and went to sync with iPad and iPhone. Been there done that, right? Well, both ios devices are allowing some but not all of those images to be synced. Out of my last import of about 20 images, it allows 4 to be synced. The message I get is:
"Some of your photos, including the photo “Class_of_2012.jpg”, were not copied to the iPad “Jerry’s iPad” because they cannot be displayed on your iPad."
Same import group, same camera, same eveything. All raw files converted to jpeg, etc...... only 4 out of 20.
While I don't get this message with the iPhone, it does the same thing--won't sync just those remaining images. And I have plenty of storage space on both devices.
    Any help?

If someone was having this issue with iPhoto I know what I would tell them, but not having Aperture I am not sure that the same trick will work, however, here goes. Go to the Aperture media library in ~/Pictures and right click over the icon. Choose Show Package Contents. In the Contents folder look for a folder named iPod Photo Cache. Trash this folder. This will not harm your photos and the Aperture app will create another cache the next time it needs one.
If you do not find such a folder, then Aperture works very differently than iPhoto.

my laptop will not open iTunes, as it just says 'This version of iTunes has not been correctly localised for this language. Please run the English version'. I have not synconised my iPhone 5S or iPad 2 with iTunes for well over a year. I noticed the music which had previously been put into iTunes has dissappeared from my phone and iPad. I also want to remove some movies from my iPad and iPhone and there is no way I can do this without being able to manually sync with the Laptop which is running windows 7. Has anyone else come across this and please can you help? I am no expert in fact I know very little about the Laptop, it is my Husbands baby but he doesn't understand anything to do with Apple including iTunes. I will need any advise explained step by step please.

    Hi Shelady,
Try downloading and reinstalling the latest version of iTunes from the first link below. If that doesn't do it, the suggestions in the second article should resolve the installation issue.

  • IPad will not display photos from library

    Hi there,
have iPad 1 and strange problem noticed since uprgaded to OS5. I have photo album (Portable Album) on my MacBook Pro that is prepared for portable devices, namely iPad and iPhone. So I do sync and status bar is showing all 177 pictures transferring into iPad.
Go to iPad and there are only 6 pictures availabe to be seen. Absolutely same thing happens with iPhone. There is a "Camera Roll" album with whatever I shot with iPhone and "Portable Album" with only 6 pictures there instead of 177 total!
Pictures are made by different cameras, mostly my Olympus and imported into iPhoto. What is going on, can anybody explain or help?

Are you transferring the album from iPhoto?
Try deleting the iPod Photo Cache from your Mac.

  • IPhone not display podcasts from iTunes playlist

I have a Smart Playlist created in iTunes containing podcasts, selected by intelligent criteria of my choosing.
If I sync an old iPod Touch with iOs 6.1.6,  I can see the playlist w/o any problems.
If I sync a new iPod Nano, I can see the playlist w/o any problems.
If I sync a brand new iPhone 6,  it creates an empty playlist on the phone, and thrusts all the podcasts over to Podcasts, where they are clumped by podcast source, in alphabetical order.  The problems with the Podcast App have been widely reported, and I choose not to use it, let alone listen to podcasts in alphabetical order.  I would simply like to hear a stream of the podcasts according to the playlist I created.  I didn't even mention the playlists that mix podcasts and music (sorted by least recently played) which is flatly the single reason I became a devout Apple fanatic.
Q: are there any workarounds to get a playlist I created to appear on a modern iPhone?

I've just spent almost half a day to try to get iTunes to transfer new music rather than replace it and delete from my iPhone. I gave up and used CopyTrans Manager. Sooooo much easier! I just created a folder on my desktop, copy and pasted music from iTunes library and dragged the folder to my phone. Itunes so badly designed - should be simple to add rather than replace. I don't know anyone who would want to replace rather than add data - it's just illogical. Anyway, rant over, good luck and I hope this helps

  • Ipad/Iphone calendars missing events from exchange calendar

I have an Iphone and Ipad, both using iCal. They're set up to sync with Exchange 2010 server. Somehow both devices are missing random events from the calendar. I can see them  in the outlook 2010 calendar. I've already found a solution to fix this(Turn Calendar Syncing Off and On again to rebuild the calendar). What I'm looking for is a reason as to why this is occuring. Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated. I'm using the most recent IOS on both devices.(6.0.1)

I seem to have fixed it myself. Sorry for adding to the digital clutter.
After dismounting my iPhone, the clear history button was enabled. It then synched well.

  • IPad & iPhone only play video from iTunes store after iOS7 upgrade

I just noticed that my iPad and iPhone can only play content from the iTunes store now that I have upgraded them to iOS7.  They can not even play videos that my iPhone recorded before the upgraded.  They are also not able to play videos that I RIPPED from DVD's using Handbrake.    It had no problem playing any of this content before upgrading.  I can still play the videos though iTunes just fine.  And my old iPhone that is still on iOS6 plays the videos just fine. Does anyone know of a work around to get iOS seven devices to play video that is not from the iTunes store?

Thanks tried that as well as a full restore of the iPhone.  This seems to be by design.  ITunes will not even sync the files to the iOS7 devices now.  Says the files will not be copied because they can not be played, but my iOS6 devices can sync them and play them.

  • Apple in ID when ordering from Aperture

I used Aperture to order a photobook for the first time today.
Aperture asked for my Apple ID and PW, which I entered using the pair I have been using for the iTunes store.
Then the next screen showed "Create a New Account".
Based on the pre-entered info in some of the fields on this "Create a New Account" screen, it already got my info from my existing Apple, but it still wants to create a new account with another pair of Apple ID and PW.
Did others have the same experience, Aperture still wants to create a new account even though one already has an Apple ID established for the use in iTunes?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated! /Kenny

You can create a File Naming preset on Aperture to include a serial number after the original name, custom organize your pictures in your project, and export them to a folder. That should sort them independently of their original file name.
