Ipad / iphone photo sync folders list error

After syncing 3rd gen ipad with PC, iphone 6 unnecessarily re-syncs all the photo folders that are unchecked for the ipad's sync!  Of the 14,000 photos I need to sync, it re-syncs 4500 unnecessarily and takes over 1 hr.  iPad has only selected folders checked for sync.  iPhone has all folders.  I can sync the iphone successfully in succession, put then if I sync the ipad, the next iphone sync unnecessarily re-syncs all those unchecked ipad folders.
Itunes 12.1.1.4 64 bit

Sounds like a hierarchy, permission, or logic issue in itunes

Hey Peter,
Try deleting the iPod photo Cache folder which is described here:

  • ITunes can no longer find my iPhoto - no iPhone photo sync ability...help!?

Hello...okay, some data - I am currently running Lion and all the latest software updates, I am also running multiple users on this iMac, I am also sharing the iPhoto library using the "Shared Library" method.  My wifes iPhone (via her own account on the iMac) does access the iPhoto library properly from iTunes and she IS able to choose certain albums to sync (instead of the "All photos,..." option).  I cannot.  Please see the screenshot I took:
Please note that the "Selected albums,..." option is greyed out and despite the radio button on "All..." being selected, no photos sync, ala, the error message.
It's as if my iTunes account no longer sees the Shared iPhoto file and refuses to "reconnect" to it...
iPhoto runs fine and launches from my account without issue...even launches when I connect my iPhone and download photos and videos.  So, like I say, I feel like it's iTunes no longer thinking I have a valid iPhoto running.
Both my iPad and iPhone give me this message.  Think it has something to do with permissions, but have run a permissions fix both from the Disk Utility and from booting holding down the Command +R method, and then using Utilities, Terminal and Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs.
I feel like my whole user account is kinda screwed ever since the migration to Lion, but a Lion reinstall did not fix it and I am not quite ready to start from scratch with a new userID...
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

Locate and remove the iPod Photo Cache folder(s). A new one will be recreated the next time you sync Photos with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod. Deleting this folder will not remove the original images from your library, but may solve your sync problem.

  • Syncing Ipad & iPhone in Seperate Folders

Need some advice. I currently have an iPad and will be getting the iPhone 4s soon. I want to keep the apps, music, photo's and video's in seperate folders, so when I sync or backup a device it would save it in designated folder. Would you suggest making 2 seperate folder's 1 for the iPad & 1 for iPhone, I don't want the same apps, etc.,  on each device or visa versa. In iTunes "Edit" "Perferences" "Advance" settings I have created a folder for my iPad, should I do the same with the iPhone? and change folders through the Advance when I sync up each device ? or would this confuse iTunes ?

How are you syncing your ipad right now?  Are you just syncing everything? You don't have to - you check off which items you want for the ipad. then when you get the iphone you check off different apps for that. This apple article has a screenshot of that in step #5
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1977
If you're determined to have separate folders between your ipad & iphone, you might be better off having completely separate library database files. You can do a shift-start to choose between your iPad and iPhone library database and have them use different folders.
Switching the folder location in one library database is guaranteed to be a mess, no matter how you think you'll always remember. If you have podcasts that auto download they might start downloading when you're in the wrong library, for example.
itunes is designed to support multiple devices...maybe you're overthinking this?
The backups will still be separate though and always go to that location in the article I posted above.

  • Transfer iphone photo library folders to computer

Instead of syncing all of my photos on my iPhone at once over to my Macbook Pro in order to transfer my photos over to iPhoto, I would like some sort of semblance in doing so. I have all my photos on my iPhone organized in different folders in my iPhone photo library. How do I transfer my folders (pictures in them) over to my computer so that I don't have to reorganize each and every photo once they've been synced to my computer?

    1. The photo library on your phone is not the same as your iPhoto Library. For a start, thoe images have been compressed to a very small size to save space on the device and you're missing versions, metadata and so on.
    2. You would be better restoring from a back up.
    3. You can get these versions off your phone with an app like http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/36028/iphone-photo-transfer . There are others. Search on MacUpdate
    4. Once you've recovered them to the computer you'll need to create a new Library to import them.

  • IPad/iPhone photo duplicates

I have a iphone, ipad and Mac (with iPhoto). When I sync them and go to photos on the iphone or ipad, the photos are duplicated when I go to Photos (Collections) on either the iphone or ipad.  How do I set this up so I don't have duplications?

Adding my name to this too...seems a pervasive problem...this has happened before and Apple sorted it out eventually with an update...very annoying though... It seems to be only ipad related as my desktop and iphone are fine...

  • IPhone photo sync interrupted to iPhoto now won't sync pics!

I was on vacation and syncing my photos from my iPhone to my MacBook Pro while I lay in bed. At some point my MacBook went to sleep (I believe) and the photo syncing from iPhone to iPhoto was interrupted. Now both devices believe the photos were synced but they weren't and now the pictures and videos are taking up much needed room on my phone. What do I do to get these to sync???

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Have all new mac, ipad, iphone pictures sync across all three ok but small 18 sec. video will not any solutions

I have an iphone, ipad and mac all bought in the last 4 months photos taken on iphone sync across all three ok but short videos do not is this normal

Yes. It's normal. Still photos sync via PhotoStream. Videos, regardless of how short they are, do not.

  • Users of iPhone photo sync, Aperture, and stacks

For those who use Aperture and the stack feature, do you have the same problem as me when syncing to your iPhone?
    Here is the thing:
Stacks in Aperture are used to group related pictures (usually variants of the same picture). In a stack, you then choose the best picture of the stack and identify it as such. This picture is then the only one that is shown in an album once the stack is closed.
Now if you sync such an album, containing stacks, to your iPhone, the problem is that all pictures in the stack, and not only the best one, is displayed in your iPhone album.
(Note that I also posted this under the category "iPhone" in this forum.)

    More info:
This problem exist not with sync of albums on iPhone/iPad, but when syncing SMART ALBUMS.
If you sync a smart album that contains a stack of pictures, all pictures are put on the iPhone (not only the best picture of the stack as it should).
Please let me know if you have this problem (or not...)

  • Do iPhone photos sync to Lightroom Mobile in Original Quality or Smart Preview?

From my iPhone, I want to get the original (high quality) photo from my camera roll into Lightroom on my desktop. Currently, I am doing this by having Dropbox read my camera roll, and using WiFi, sync all new photos to a Dropbox folder. Then, when I launch Lightroom on my desktop, I have watch folder setup that imports all new photos sync'ed from Dropbox into Lightroom.
I recently downloaded Lightroom Mobile, which has the ability to import any new photos from the camera roll directly to Lightroom Mobile. I have set this up to sync to Lightroom on my desktop with my Lightroom Mobile. From what I have read online though, Lightroom Mobile only syncs "smart previews", not the original image. This make sense for RAW files as they are huge, but what about regular JPEGs?
My question is, if someone sets up Lightroom Mobile to sync in this way (from iPhone camera roll -> Lightroom Mobile -> Lightroom Desktop), does it sync the original (high quality) photo to your desktop, or just a Smart Preview? I am wondering if I can now eliminate the Dropbox syncing, and just use Lightroom Mobile instead.

When you import photos from your camera roll via Lr Mobile, then the original will be synced to Lr Deskop. But when you open up the photo in Lr Mobile you will see a smaller kind of smart preview. Hope that answers your question. - Guido

  • Iphone photo syncing question

I'm trying to sync my photos from my iphone4 to my pc.  It syncs everything but the photos.  It shows it's syncing the photos, but then shows "0" photos.  I cannot find them in any folder on my computer.  Any ideas?

I am experiencing this problem too. My Laptop got stolen in a burglary. I now have another Laptop running XP and I have downloaded iTunes. I am now trying to sync my iPhone 4 running IOS 4.3.5 (SL1) and I will then upgrade to the latest IOS version.
I have run the sync which appears to have worked but when I go to the chosen folder on my PC there is a file called iPhone Photo Cache with nothing in it.
Has anyone experienced this? I am now concerned the iPhone has not synchronised and I will loose my data if I upgrade to IOS 5.
    Can anyone help?

  • IPhone photo sync doesn't work.

Since the last iOS update the photo sync in iTunes doesn't work. One event will be shown as many in iTunes, each with only a few photos or even just one in it. In iPhoto all events are ok.
Any suggestion why and how to solve it?
