IPad is connected to a stereo installation - no control of the volume by the iPad

When my iPad is connected to a stereo installation, there is no possibility anymore to control the volume by the iPad.
'the volume control' is replaced by 'dock connector' on the iPad

This issue manifests as The volume control shows  sound effects on screen  or phantom docking no volume slide control.
For the beginners, the issue is often the side switch is set to mute on off and not screen rotation lock. The switch is off. (see settings)
Other issues around software and airport use can be resolved by hard reset, or reset options inside the settings. I use AIRPORT all the time.
You may have even tried the re-installing the firmware/ios
So when all has failed to work, the you may have dock connector PIN 21 problem.
I had an issue that started with the ipad whe it was on USB cable to PC.
No drop, no sudden cable movements. Just gone....
No volume slider.   IPAD behaves as if it was docked when not.
Slight movement when usb cable is in occasionally brings the volume control back but only for a few seconds then it disappears.
Mine is going back for repair/replacement.
cheers Phil

  • The volume on my iPad 3 has dropped considerably. I have read quite a few posts and followed advice re doing reset and checking settings. Nothing has worked. WHEN IS APPLE GOING TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE.

The volume on my iPad 3 has dropped to a very low setting. I have tried all the suggestions with setting and did a reset, nothing works and it seems this is an issue with many others. When is Apple going to address this problem?

For what it's worth I haven't see any change in volume on my iPad 3.

You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
You can restore from a backup if you have one from BEFORE you set the restrictions passcode.

If you have lost all sound and video is freezing on you, that ain't good. Your iPad is two months old so I would not hesitate to contact Apple at all. You are entitled to 90 days of phone support.

If you want to try a couple of things on your own, try quitting all apps and then reboot the iPad - not so much for the sound issue itself - but more as a general "start all over again" sort of approach. It might help with the video freezes.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Reboot the iPad.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
If you use headphones on occasion, you can try plugging and unplugging those as well and see if the sound comes back.
You could even try restoring the iPad to factory settings and then restore from a backup, but unless there is something totally hosed on the iPad, that should not be necessary with a two month old device - of course assuming that you didn't drop the iPad or do something accidental that could be causing the problems.

  • TS3274 I cannot control the volume on my iPad 2

I cannot control the volume on my iPad 2.  It works for about the first 5-10 seconds after start up.  After that the volume control does not work and no sound for any apps.  Any help?

I have tried both, neither works.  As state in my original post, after I restart or reset the iPad the volume control is only available for about 5-10 seconds.  After that the sound shuts off and I cannot get the controls to respond.  Double clicking the home button and swiping to the right, the volume control slider is not there, and mute is not turned on.

  • My 5 yr. old turned off the volume on my ipad. when I hit the volume buttons it just says "sound effects" and does not go up or down

my 5 yr. old turned off the volume on my ipad. when I hit the volume buttons it just says "sound effects" and does not go up or down

I had the same problem- go to Utilities, General, Use Side Switch To, and change it from Mute to Lock Rotation- this solved the problem for me.
    Good luck!

  • Why does the volume button on iPad stop working

Sound comes on sometimes works fine other times I go to change volume and it won't sound

Is there anything around the volume rocker that might he affecting how it works? Maybe some sticky substance or anything that could be causing the button to stick?
Have you tried resetting the iPad?
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • TS3274 I am unable to turn up the volume on my iPad

I can get my alerts to sound under settings and I can turn the mute button on because the mute icon pops up when I hit the mute button.  But, when I try to adjust the volume the volume gauge does not show up.  How can I fix my my volume button?

Last resort, force iPad into Recovery Mode.
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note:
    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
    2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.

  • I could not turn up the volume on my iPad using the volume button on the side. Is there any way to fix this?

I could not turn up the sound (volume) on my iPad 2 using the volume button on the side. This happens after I have reduced the volume to minimum using the same volume button. The volume indicator does not move up at all. Note: it was not on mute, so the issue seems to be the button.

Try this and see if it works.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • I can't adjust the volume of my iPad 2.

Whenever we're adjusting the volume, there will be a bar that comes up, together with the speaker symbol. Now, there's only the speaker symbol without the volume bar. The sound went away suddenly as I was playing some games on my iPad.

    1. If Side Switch is set to Mute, check to make sure it's not muted

    2. Check the Volume buttons

    3. Double-click the Home button; swipe the Task Bar to the right. Check the Mute and Volume settings.

  • Help! Can't adjust the volume of my ipad 2 - volume button not appearing

Hi. My ipad has no sound - especially when playing music. The volume button is just broken (not the one on the side but on the music app itself) - I can't adjust the volume, the round thing to adjust it is just gone, and it's just gray and no sound at all. But when I ask Siri/adjust the ringer, there's still a sound. So I don't really get it.
Even when I plug in the earphones, there's still no sound and I still can't adjust the volume
The volume buttongs on the side doesn't do anything
    I tried reseting my ipad

  • Connecting iPod to stereo and retaining control.

When I plug the iPod touch into my stereo (Yamaha RX-V671) via USB, I lose all control.  There is a picture of an iPod Nano on the iPod Touch's screen and no way to get rid of it or do anything else.  Is there any way to fix this?  I'd like to be able to skip songs, replay, restart playback, change playlists, etc.

    Instructions?  What a concept! :-)
Strangely enough I could find the manuals for my Yamaha CD player and even the old cassette deck, but not the fairly new receiver.  Anyway I looked the manual up on line and I see that I have to have the TV turned on and I should see a control panel.
I have to leave right now, but will try this tonight.  I'm confident it will solve the problem and thanks very much for your help.
