Try #5.
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app
    •    Tap on Wi-Fi
    •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • IPad 2 constantly drops WiFi connection when tethered to iPhone via Hotspot

I have a wifi only iPad 2 that I tether to my iPhone 4 via the personal hotspot. The iPhone and the iPad are constantly being separated throughout the day and my problem is that when the iPad gets back in range of the iPhone hotspot it won't reconnect at all! In fact the iPad no longer sees the iPhone as a wifi option in the network list even though the iPhone hotspot is running just fine (other devices cam still see and connect to the iPhone hotspot)
I have to turn off the iPhone hotspot, wait 2 seconds and then turn it back on. Then the iPad sees the hotspot again and connects.
Also if I turn the auto lock off on the iPad so that it never locks, then it will reconnect to the iPhone hotspot just fine. But the problem with turning auto lock off is that the screen has to stay on all day!
There is obviously something wrong that is happening when the iPad locks. It drops the wifi connection and then does not reconnect when I turn the screen back on.
Is there anything I can do to make sure the iPad reconnects to the hotspot whenever I get back in range without having to keep it on all the time?

I found this post on another thread and tried it for tethering my iPad 2 to my iPhone 4 and so far it's worked great. Good luck!!

Re: iphone 4s - HOTSPOT - WILL NOT STAY CONNECTED
Mar 13, 2012 1:20 PM (in response to coalxman)
I have been having that problem for 6 months and my IT guy finally found a solution by mining the web. I don't know the source of the answer to give credit but it works !
    Text of blog posting below:
t does, thanks! I was getting really frustrated with connecting my iPad to my 4S via Personal Hotspot. After a fresh boot of the phone it would work as expected but if the connection was terminated (say by switching hotspot off and on) or after the two hadn't been connected for a while it got into this state where I could see and connect to the hotspot but it would drop a few seconds later then try again over and over.
After a lot of experimenting I finally figured out that there seems to be a pretty serious bug in the hotspot's DHCP server. AP discovery and WPA authentication work great but in this weird state the iPhone will not give the connecting device an IP. The only solution to fix the DHCP server is to reboot the phone.
That being the case, grasshoppertrekker's advice is bang on - you need to give the connecting device a static IP address. This gets around the DHCP issue.
For the less technically inclined, here's how to do that with an iPad:
    - Reboot your phone and connect to the hotspot as usual and ensure the connection works
    - On the iPad go to Settings - WiFi and tap the arrow to the right of your iPhone's name
    - Write down all the values you see under the DHCP tab
    - Tap the Static tab (or Manual)
    - Enter in the same values you just write down
    - Hit "WiFi Networks" at the top to go back
The iPad will now reconnect using the same settings as DHCP would have given it, but without relying on the broken DHCP server.
Optional extra: Instead of using whatever DNS values the DHCP server (and by extension your mobile data ISP) gives you, use OpenDNS IP's instead. This will speed up YouTube due to their partnership with Google and prevent your ISP from traking your web usage via DNS interception. To do this enter the following into the DNS field under the Static tab: 208.67.222.222,208.67.220.220 (note the comma)

  • IPad mini keeps losing wifi connection

Since yesterday my iPad mini keeps losing the wifi connection, especially when playing video on YouTube. Stopping the You Tube app and starting Safari seems to restart it temporarily but only for a short while. I've tried reinstalling the YouTube app, but it then happened playing You Tube via Safari. I've reset my router and deleted all cookies, browsing history and rebooted the iPad. Even done a complete new install of the iPad after the iOS update failed (grrrr) and deleted everything but this issue was happening before the update and after the rebuild.
Any Ideas or help gratefully accepted.
    Thanks

  • IPad (3rd gen) losing wifi connection during BBC iPlayer downloads

    Hi,
I am having a strange, app-specific problem with my iPad 3rd generation (wifi only, 64GB) running iOS 6.1.3.
When I use the BBC iPlayer app (version 2.0.5.33) to download a TV show to watch offline, my iPad almost always loses wifi connection a minute or two into the download, and it stays disconnected until I go into Settings > Wifi and select my home network again. If I resume the download in iPlayer, the same issue will typically recur within a minute or two.
I am not having any other connectivity problems with this iPad, and other sizeable downloads (e.g. from iTunes, from the App Store etc) are not having the same issue. Similarly, I can stream live BBC iPlayer content without issue - it is just the iPlayer downloads that seem to create this condition (which then effects the whole iPad / all other running apps).
I have tried to "forget this network", resetting network settings and restoring my entire iPad - none of these have stopped the issue. Interestingly, during restore of the iPad I received ugly BIOS-esque messages relating to AppleBCMWLANCore, which have disappeared after a hard reboot (power + home buttons together) - does this indicate a problem with the iPad hardware itself?
Anyone else experiencing something similar? Any suggestions to fix this? Or am I dependent on the BBC updating the app?
    Cheers,
    James

    Hey James,
I would try out standard third party application troubleshooting and see if that resolves the Wi-Fi issue. :
    1. Update your device software
    2. Check for app updates
    3. Install another app from the App Store
    4. Restart the application
    5. Restart your device
    6. Reinstall the affected application
For more info on each step, check out the full article:
iOS: Troubleshooting applications purchased from the App Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1702
If none of those steps work, then you would want to contact the developer of the application for further assistance.
    Regards,
    David

  • IPad (3rd gen) losing wifi connection during large downloads

    Hi,
I am having a problem with my iPad 3rd generation (wifi only, 64GB) running iOS 6.1.3.
When I download large files (e.g. via the iTunes app, the BBC iPlayer app, The Economist app), my iPad almost always loses wifi connection a minute or two into the download, and often stays disconnected until I go into Settings > Wifi and select my home network again. If I resume the download in relevant application, the same issue will typically recur within a minute or two.
I am not having any other problems with this iPad - general internet browsing / streaming of video has been fine. I originally thought the issue was only with the BBC iPlayer app, but sadly have found it to be more widespread.
I have tried to "forget this network", resetting network settings, restoring my entire iPad (twice), and resetting all settings - none of these have stopped the issue. Interestingly, during the first restore of the iPad I received ugly BIOS-esque messages relating to AppleBCMWLANCore, which disappeared after a hard reboot (power + home buttons together), and did not recur on the 2nd restore.
Anyone else experiencing something similar? Any suggestions to fix this?
    Cheers,
    James

  • Constantly losing wifi

I figured I would join in the discussion. I am not techie, so I apologize. I am running an imac 24-inch Mid 2007 on 10.7.3. Always do the updates and everything seems ok. I have been having problems with connecting, reconnecting after sleep and just losing my connection in the middle of being on wifi. I have replaced my wireless router, I have deleted all previous wifi networks. I have also renewed my dhcp license. Nothing helps. To reconnect, I have to continuously go to network preferences, assist me, diagnostics, then continue with the assist me and choose my network and it then reconnects. This IS NOT just waking from sleep. Sometimes just randomly while working on the computer.
I have  read some things about equipment plugged in and I have an ATT micro cell plugged into 1 ethernet jack in my wireless router/modem, I also have a bluetooth mouse, a printer plugged in USB and a Lacie HD using Time machine. Please help with any suggestions on stopping this annoying  behavior. It is really frustrating and makes getting things done very time-consuming. HELP.

Make sure the time and date is correct on your Mac and update with Apple's time servers.
If your router is "hidden" you need to unhide it, it offers no security protection and causes the sleep and won't connect issue your describing.
If it's WEP encrypted that could be the problem, only WPA2(AES) is secure, with a good password.
After fixing the router, create a new Network Location, then connect to the Wifi and save the "guest internet" password in your keychain.

  • IPad Air, freezing & losing wifi connection

Have had the iPad Air (128GB) since December 2013. Up until the recent security update (7.0.6) has worked as needed.
In the past few weeks performance has been terrible beginning with hard resets that were not initiated by me resulting in a loss of all emails (thankfully I do not rely on the iPad as my main source of sending and receiving). What is lost to me was all emails sent from the iPad. This has not reoccurred.
What has been a constant is constant freezing of the sceen. Unable to swipe or initiate anything for upwards of minutes. Hitting the home button does nothing until it un-freezes. Additionally, wifi signals are being lost all to frequently where the iPad is not able to even see the network that other Apple products are on.
I first blamed the network (restarted it multiple times) yet every other apple product had no issues (Apple TV to iMac's to other older iPads, etc.), then the internet source (nope).
It seems every 30 minutes my iPad is claiming there is no network or is freezing.
For the most part this is a light use item with 100GB's of free space as I write. I use it mostly for reading and airplay and my last resort is to restore it as it is an issue.
Any others with similar issues or even a solution.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Constantly Losing Wifi Connection

This has been going on for quite some time.  The phone will be connected via wifi and I will look down and wifi is gone.  The router is still listed and listed as excellent strength.  All other devices work fine via the router.
Sometimes turning off power to router will reconnect the wifi, but not for vary long.
There is no consistency as to what causes it to lose connection.
This happens at all locations.  I also have a router at the school and I have the same problem.
Please help as this is QUITE frustrating.

Pettrainer, I can see why this would be so frustrating, especially when there is no common reason why it drops. Do you have a task killer or antivirus installed on your phone? If so, please uninstall. These could randomly stop processes from running in the background.
Do you notice if this issue happened after a software update or downloading a new application? Try also forgetting your WiFi networks and setting up again. If no change after these steps, I would recommend a factory reset http://bit.ly/P75GGe.

  • Why mi ipad keeps losing wifi

SInce i udated to ios8 my ipad mini keeps losing wifi, it's not my mdem/router because my old ipod works fine and every other non apple
    devise

It is possible that your printer or your iPad is on the fringe of your wifi router's range. You should be able to check the signal strength on the printer.

  • IPad Keeps Losing Wifi Connection??

    Hi,
About 2 days ago, my iPad 2 began losing wifi connection. I would have to tap "Forget this network" and then wait a bit and then tap on the network again and type in the password. After that, the iPad would gain wifi again until about 5-20 minutes later, it loses wifi connection AGAIN. Sometimes when I did that it still didn't even work! And it also bothers me because it still has the wifi sign in the top left corner of my ipad screen, even if the wifi connection is not working. This has happened continuously throughout the past 2 days. Sometimes, the wifi would work for a good amount of time before it was gone again, and sometimes it loses connection after like 3 minutes. But all the other electronics in my house are perfectly fine, it's just my iPad 2 that's been doing this.
I tried to tap "forget all network settings" and then restart my ipad, but that didn't help. I'm not sure if it's the iPad's problem (since all the other electronics work) or if it's the wifi.
Please help! This is very annoying.
(And i have a new update which is 7.1.2, but that's been there for a pretty long time bc I always forget to update it. But I don't think that's the problem.)

Instructions at

    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

PS Make sure you have a good wifi connection when you update the iOS.

  • Ipad3 losing  wifi connection after IOS 7.1 DL.  FIX??  I have reset, rebooted, etc.  This is unacceptable.

my ipad 3 is losing wifi or not letting streaming content happen after DL of IOS 7.1.  WIll not connect to the internet either.  Fix?? I have rebooted everything. HELP! now i have a $600 brick.

it sounds from your description like you have not made peace with your router.  suggest you reboot the router and the pad (as you have probably already done).  In settings, wifi - "forget" the network, the rejoin.  You will need to re input your password.
In one case, I needed to actually change the password in the router, then rejoin - that seemed to wake it up.
To test what is happening, go somewhere that has a public wifi - like a starbucks or Macdonalds - Make sure your wifi works there.

  • My iMac keeps on losing internet connection. Webpages get stuck after a minute or so. If I check the internet connection via diagnostics it seems to work just fine. Others, like the iPad use the same wifi connection and never fail. What can I do?

Running 10.6.8 on Intel dual core iMac, it keeps on losing internet connection. Webpages get stuck after a minute or so. If I check the internet connection via diagnostics it seems to work just fine. Others, like the iPad use the same wifi connection and never fail. What can I do?

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

  • IPad 2 forgetting my wifi constantly, how to fix?

    Hello apple friends,
I am having a problem with my iPad 2 32gb 3g+wifi, the problem is that everytime I turn off the wifi on the iPad or leave the house it forgets my home network and making me enter the wifi password on the iPad everytime I come back to my home or if the wifi is turned off. Also when I leave it on sleep mode (screen turned off/locked) for long periods of time it loses the network, but what is most annoying it has got worse and now it will not even last 10 minutes when locked. I've been waiting for apple to make a fix on this but it seems like nothing has been done and been ignored. I'm sure it is not a hardware issue as this problem first appeared when i updated to iOS 6, whether or not it may be a hardware issue or not im ceratin that is a software issue as the wifi works perfectly exept for losing the network. I would be grateful if anyone could help me further into this issue, thanks.

There have been some known issues with iOS 6 and exsisting routers such as netgear, might want to check your router for a firmware update. Also some things you can try on the iPad is to reset network settings, Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings, once your iPad reboots attempt to connect again and see if the issues still persist, also i would recommend powering off your modem and router for 30 seconds or so and powering them back on. No content or information will actually be lost during these steps. let me know how it works out for you.

  • Ipads losing wifi

Lately my 3 iPads are losing wifi connectivity.
    I have 2 iPad 2 and 1 iPad mini.
Randomly, they all lose connectivity to the internet. Turning wifi on and off on the iPad usually fixes this issue.
My iPhone and MacBook however don't show that behvior.
    Any ideas?
I am running a 5th generation Airport Extreme with firmware 7.6.3.
    Thanks.

I did what you suggested. Turned off the whole network, and then tuned it back on, one device at a time.
While at first this seemed to have solved the issue, it did and does re-occur.
When I open my iPad from sleep and continue watching a streaming movie in Safari, after a few minutes the movie pauses by itself. Switching to Chrome to see if I can still browse the web then tells me I lost all wifi connectivity.
Turning off and back on wifi in the settings panel fixes this. I can then resume the movie.
It does seem to be connected to the iPad and not the AirPort Extreme, as I can still connect from my iPhone to the Internet, when my iPad lost connectivity.
What is strange though, is that this only started to happen recently, probably shortly after I purchased the iPad mini. But then, the other two iPads in the house (version 2), also started to show this behavior.
The only other change I remember was the upgrade of the AirPort Extreme to v. 7.6.3. My MacBookPro never loses connection, btw. The Airport's settings are the way Apple recommends them, leaving the channels on auto, using both bands for the same SSID (5.8 and 2.4ghz).
This is now starting to annoy me.
    Anyone has more ideas?
    Thanks!
