IPad is recognized by iPhoto but not iTunes

Each time I connect my iPad to my Mac through USB iPhoto launches and the iPad is recognized as a device. It will not come up as a device in iTunes. I've tried all the apple troubleshooting to no avail. Any suggestions?

So I opened 'Image Capture.app' and set the option "Connecting this camera opens: No application" and that stopped iPhoto from opening when connecting my iPad. However, iTunes still would not recognize new iPad. I tried the "iPad not appearing in iTunes" troubleshooting assistant on Apple's website and the last resort was to reinstall iTunes 9.1.1. So I reluctantly did. Voila, it then recognized the iPad like it should. HOWEVER, after a couple hours, I tried to reconnect the iPad to sync again and it wouldn't recognize the iPad. Do I have to keep reinstalling iTunes everytime it fails to recognize the iPad?? This is ridiculous!!

  • IPhone 5 is recognized by iPhoto but not iTunes (OSX 10.6.8, iTunes 10.7, iPhoto 7.1.5)

I am helping a friend with her new iPhone 5.
Issue is that it is recognized by iPhoto but not iTunes.
    iPhone 5 16GB, iOS 6.1.4
    OSX 10.6.8v1.1, iTunes 10.7, iPhoto 7.1.5
Computer: iMac C2D 2.4 GHz (Early 2008)(iMac8,1), 1 GB RAM,
History, recently updated in-place from 10.5.8 Leopard to 10.6.8v1.1 SL, just for the iPhone 5.
Installed iTunes 10.7 (as we do not like interface and loss of separate Playlist view in iTunes 11).
Noted that iPhone 5 stipulates that iTunes 10.7 or higher is required -- So should be OK there.
Initially iPhone was recognized by both iPhoto and iTunes. Then shortly later, iTunes did not see it anymore, was missing from iTunes Devices list.
Called Apple Support, agent walked us through removing iTunes and the iTunes Receipt packages.
Then Reinstalled iTunes 10.7. Ran Permissions Repair. Restarted computer.
Seemed all good, iTunes (10.7) saw and synced and updated the iPhone.
But Now, after two or three weeks, when user plugged in her iphone and ran iTunes, it did not show the iPhone at all, though iPhoto did start up and show pictures.
So the iMac computer sees the iPhone5 well enough to get picture data, but apparently not well enough for iTunes sync.
(she tends to use the wall charger and not plug it into the iMac very much at all).
In all other known respects, both the iPhone5 and the iMac C2D seem to function normally.
    Any thoughts?
I looked at KB article: http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/itunes/
And at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591 (iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X).
And finally am thinking we may need to ALSO do the uninstall via: https://support.apple.com/kb/ht1747 (Remove Apple Mobile Device Service).  But I have not visited with here to do that yet.........)
Any thoughts on best way to proceed?
    Thanks.

What error message ar eyou getting. Why do you say it will not allow you to download?
Verify you meet all the system requirements:
Mac computer with an Intel Core processor
OS X version 10.6.8 or later
    400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store

  • IPad will connect to iPhoto but not iTunes?

Hi All. I have an iPad 2 which I last connected to my iMac last March. I recentley updated the iMac to 10.6.8 and the iPad is running 6.0.1 (not sure if it will update any further?).
Now when I connect to to the computer it is recognised and shows in devices in iPhoto but nothing in iTunes.
    Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks in advance.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

  • IPhone recognized by iPhoto but not iTunes.

I'm on a older MacBook pro running iTunes version 9.2.1.  When I plug my iPhone 4s into my comp iPhoto recognizes it and I can transfer photos but iTunes doesn't see my phone at all...  Tried following apples suggestions, restart phone and iTunes, reset iPhone, check USB connections...  Nothing has worked yet.  Please help!

Try installing the latest version of iTunes right over the top of your existing iTunes. Even if it's the same version. Make sure your iPhone or iDevice is not plugged in. It worked for me. I didn't even have to restart.
    I have Mac OS 10.7.5

IPhone 4S sync'd no problem with my laptop.  New IPhone 5 is recognized by Windows but, not ITunes.  ITunes has been updated, worked with Apple support for 2 hours this morning, still an unresolved problem.  Also, phone does sync on other computers.

    Hi there,

  • Ipod touch recogniced by iphoto but not by mac and itunes

My ipod touch weirdly doesn't show up on the desktop or on itunes BUT it will always launch iphoto and ask if I want to download the two photos (which I downloaded from iphoto INTO the ipod, go figure). Any ideas? I have been synching my podcasts by using our house's wireless. I had an ipod previously, but copied over this one successfully...so I thought. Help?

You are correct about things not adding up.
My ipod touch weirdly doesn't show up on the desktop or on itunes BUT it will always launch iphoto and ask if I want to download the two photos (which I downloaded from iphoto INTO the ipod, go figure).
Photos copy only one way - iTunes to iPod. Not the other way around. Could it be that your iPod is being treated as camera? You can disable your computer from recognizing the touch as a camera. See this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1501
I have been synching my podcasts by using our house's wireless.
Wireless syncing is not supported. You can connect to iTunes and download, but you can't sync with your computer wirelessly.
As far as iTunes not recognizing your touch, a piece of software - Apple Mobile Device Services - needs to be operating correctly. See this article for help on troubleshooting problems: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747

  • IPod recognized by Vista but not iTunes

Hi, I have a perplexing problem. iTunes is suddenly not recognizing my
iPod. Vista does (though has renamed it Apple iPod), but it does not
open (when I try, Explorer hangs)
Nothing happened b4 to provoke this behavior. I uploaded some podcasts
on Friday, went out of town (w/out the iPod), and came back Monday
night. Tuesday, I try to update the iPod and it doesn't show up in
iTunes, but Vista wants to reformat it!
I try the following (suggested in the Apple support pages):
    * I restart the iPod service
    * I completely uninstall iTunes
    * I reset the iPod
Each time I connect the iPod to Vista, it asks if I want to reformat it. I grudgingly restored to see if that would help. I even reformatted it (Quick Format) even though I had heard that was bad. Still doesn't show up in iTunes, but the iPod is happy as a clam, albeit empty of any songs/podcasts.
Any ideas? Oh, and I have an ancient 3G iPod w/ doc connector. After 5
years, (and 3 batteries) it still works like a champ.

You need to install iTunes in order to install the necessary drivers.

  • Nano recognized by windows but not iTunes

When I connect my nano to my computer it is recognized by windows so I can edit things like the calendar but when I go to iTunes to update music it isnt recognized as even being connected to the computer by iTunes. First I tried restoring it because Ive had problems that have been fixed by that before, but it didnt work. I downloaded iTunes 7 but it still isnt recognized. Now I have a nano that has no music on it and cant be updated because iTunes doesnt recognize it. What can I do!!!???

I got mine working, i'm not sure if it was by coincidence or what. But what I did was close out of itunes and unplug the ipod. I disabled my wireless network on my laptop and pluged in the ipod, and boom itunes was like, oh yeah now i can find the ipod. So I didn't know what to think about that, so i went over to my desktop and yanked out the network cabled, plugged in the ipod and now it reconizes the ipod too, which it wouldn't do earlier either. I have no idea what's going on there. Maybe you can try that and see, it somehow worked for me.

  • IPod recognized by PC but not iTunes or Updater

I have a first generation iPod that was a gift last November. It worked fine and I'm in love with it. A few months ago my motherboard and processor got fried and I had it replaced. (Although I could have sworn I had XP Home Edition before and now I have XP Pro...)
Last Wednesday, I plugged in my iPod (using firewire) and got a message that I needed to run the software updater, so I downloaded the updater and my only option was to restore to factory settings, so I restored. It said to unplug and replug to continue restore and I did and left it sit for HOURS, and then overnight. I had to turn off the computer the next day, so I had to force it to release.
Since then I've tried every fix on Apple's pages for each error I got... I got the access privileges error, which I managed to fix (I think by pure dumb luck on that one)... then I got the Internal Service Error which got fixed and has now returned.
I can see my iPod as drive I in My Computer and when I click on it, it tells me the drive is not formatted, would I like to format it and I click no. iTunes works great, the Updater doesn't work because I keep getting the internal error again. When the iPod is available to me, I can play with it just like it was out of the box... ie.. no songs... I've run the diganostics tests in the diagnostic mode and they all say ok. So, I've got an iPod that works great except for one problem... I can't put any music on it!
Bottom line is, I think I've tried everything I possibly could... does anybody else have any other ideas? I hope so because I can't afford a new iPod and have become very attached to having one!

  • TS1538 iPhone 4S recognized by Windows but not iTunes.

I have been trying to sync my iPhone 4S. I connect to my WIndows 7 laptop and the PC recognizes it, but iTunes won't start. I manually started iTunes and, before I even connect to the PC, iTunes tries to sync and then I get an error that says it can't connect and that I need to restore my iPhone. My iPhone is working perfectly. I followed the direction in the troubleshooter and uninstalled and then reinstalled iTunes. I rebooted several times. No change. The very same thing happens. I also checked that the correct services are runniing and stopped/started them. Don't know what to do now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure both iTunes and your iPhone are up to date.
Also easiest way to find what device is causing the issue is by connecting the iPhone to another pc/mac that has iTunes but do not sync. If the iPhone can be recognised on another computer then it is an issue with your computer and vice versa.
