IPad isn't recognized by iTunes or Explorer

I recently updated my iTunes to 10.5, and before this, all of my devices synced up fine. However, after this update, neither my iPod Touch nor my iPad are even recognized by iTunes OR Explorer. They show up as "Unspecified" in my Devices though. I've already tried all the fixes recommended on the Apple site, but nothing works so far. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who has the problem, so, has anyone discovered a good fix yet?

Might be the drivers. I know my computer reinstalled both device drivers when i upgraded my touch and ipad to os5. If you haven't done so already, try going into your windows programs menu in the control panel and uninstalling everything apple. Then reinstall itunes 10.5 and plug your devices in and see if the drivers reinstall. It took me 3 hours to upgrade both my touch and ipad, downloading the update, backing up, installilng it and then having the drivers reinstall.

IPad 2 not recognized on iTunes

This evening I had problems starting apps as the memory was full. I plugged the iPad into the PC and started iTunes. All looked good and 'normal' so I started to delete some of the kids game apps.
A message then came up to update the iPad iOS software. When I selected that it said the iTunes software needed updating so I selected that too. After about ten minutes of file downloads it then showed error 3004. I followed all instructions given by Apple. One helpful Apple message sends to the iPad but the iPad is now stuck on the black screen with the blue iTunes connect logo.
iTunes doesn't see the device, even when asking for a reboot. I tried a system reset to yesterday but that failed too.
Any one know a way of getting the iPad to get off the blue iTunes connect screen without smashing the thing?

It sounds like your iPad is in recovery mode and it isn’t recognized by iTunes, also this all started after attempting to update iTunes on your PC and iOS on the iPad. Take a look at the article linked below and try the troubleshooting suggestions that it provides before attempting to restore the iPad.

Hi All,
I had a late 2007 macbook pro that developed a line across the screen where everything below it was gray. At first it was a simple 'wiggle of the screen' fix, then it evolved into a 'put a bag clip on the side', then it became a 'put a bag clip on the side and wiggle it to find the perfect spot'. My friend (who has the exact same model bought 3 days apart at the same location) upgraded to a macbook air and gave his old computer to me so I'd have a working screen again. He had updated the computer to lion before giving it to me (I had snow leopard). I had the HD's swapped as well as my ram (as I had 4 vs 2gbs). Now the computer is having some serious issues. When I plug in my iphone or ipad it isn't recognized in iTunes, I did notice its recognized in iPhoto but won't actually bring up any of the pictures... just shows that they exist (but are blank). Google Chrome crashes now everytime I use a command to open a tab or close a window etc. I've also noticed that programs are taking 15-30 seconds to open and I'm getting a lot of spinning wheels. Everything is updated and I've tried re-installing snow leopard and the programs that are being affected. And that's all I've noticed so far, but its only been 24 very frustrating hours.
I'd go to apple but all the products are out of service so there won't be any help there. My friend had none of these problems before giving me the computer and took meticulous care of it. Anyone have any ideas what is going on?? I'm having a hard time trying to understand how swapping a HD could possibly cause all these problems.

Sorry, but you need iTunes 11 which requires OS 10.6 or higher and a Mac with an Intel processor. In other words, you need a newer Mac.

HT1353 2nd gen iPod isn't recognized by iTunes nor Windows - What to do?

I have an iPod A 1019 (2nd gen?). When I connect it to the firewire connector on my PC, the unit screen shows a checkmark and "OK to disconnect." I tried to reset with Menu + Select (=nothing happened) but Menu + Play works. Still, PC + iTunes won't recognize iPod. Help? I suspect that the software on the iPod itself is too old but since the device cannot be discovered, I can't update it. I tried iPod transfer software, but nothing recognizes my oldie. Sigh.

Thanks for taking the time to offer me the troubleshooting steps. I tried them all, but unfortunately to no avail. I can listen to the iPod, but once I connect it to my PC with the firewire cable, it still isn't recognized in iTunes or in Windows. I checked the Universal Serial Bus controllers. The iPod is nowhere to be seen. I checked the version of the software on the iPod and it's 1.5. Maybe that's the problem: the software is too old?
BTW, the firewire cable is charging the iPod.
Maybe if I could find someone with an old PC that has a firewire port? But even if I were to make the iPod visible, would I be able to copy the songs onto my new iPod? From what I've been reading probably not. It's really exasperating. They music is legit, copied from my CDs or purchased.
I am looking at my new superslim iPod Touch 5th generation and right next to it the clickwheel iPod 2nd generation that's more than a cigarette pack sized. Progress. I guess.

Try disabling your security software and turning off the Firewall on your PC.
Disable antivirus software
Turn Windows Firewall on or off

IPod asks to be restored in iTunes, but isn't recognized in iTunes...

The exact wording of Error messages and Alerts are imperative in ascertaining your issue.
