Hello there Fonz45,
Here is the perfect article for you, named iOS: Unable to update or restore found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808 becuase it mentions this exact symptom.
Placing your device into recovery mode
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Note: If you see the screen pictured below, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
All the best,
Sterling

Since installing IOS7.0.2 my iPad keeps rebooting itself every few minutes.  I can't do anything with it and cannot download the new IOS7.2 because it doesn't run long enough to accomplish the download.  What can I do?

    Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
     Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.

  • HT4061 My ipad keeps rebooting. Any suggestions

    My ipad keeps rebooting

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
If still a problem, take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.

  • My iPad keeps rebooting since update...

My iPad 2 keeps rebooting since  the new iOS 7.0.2 update, anyone else having the same issue? What can I do to fix it that won't involve me hooking it up to computer, as mine has kicked the bucket. It's brand new in bought it this summer, it still has over 76GB Of free space.

    Try a reset .
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
No data is lost due to a reset.

  • IPad keeps rebooting itself after updating to iOS 8.3

Just updated an iPad 3 to iOS 8.3 from iOS 8.2 .  Update took a while to install (over 20 minutes) and then the Apple logo appeared for a bit then the screen went black for about 10  minutes.  The device was fine for a while and then started rebooting itself, hung on the Apple logo for about 10 minutes and now suddenly it came back.  All apps were up to date.  The device had not had any issues prior to the update.  Has anyone else had this issue?
    Thanks!

No, this is definitely an iOS 8.3 bug, Allen. I have an iPad mini (original, 24/12 old) and an iPhone 5 (not S, 18/12 old). Updated both from 8.2 to 8.3. I keep them and the apps up to date and run a tight ship.
Since the update, the iPhone has been behaving normally.
However, starting immediately after the update, the iPad has been rebooting: when you plug it into the power and it goes to sleep, it reboots itself. This NEVER ONCE happened before the 8.3 update -- and I think I started with this iPad on iOS5 or at least 6, with all the updates inbetween. If you want to use it again shortly after plugging it in, you have to wait about five-ten minutes (as other have reported).  So far, it has always rebooted successfully. But you do have to put in your passcode in response to "you have to enter your passcode upon rebooting" message; and tell it to trust your current computer connect once again.
It just now rebooted itself once again when plugged into the computer USB port, while in the middle of a sync (the screen went to sleep). Not happy about that; potential to damage data.
I confirm: this NEVER happened before 8.3, and it now reliably happens EVERY TIME I plug the iPad into power and it goes to sleep. I have three power sources (computer USB, individual Apple charger, aftermarket reserve battery charter) and it happens with all of them.
As far as I can tell, it only reboots itself once per charger-plugin, and doesn't do so again until you unplug it and plug it back in again (somewhat confident, but not 100% sure, of that).
Hope that helps. The bug needs squashing, and soon.

  • Why does my ipad keep rebooting every single time I open facebook?

  • IPad keeps rebooting after battery run all the way down.

The battery in my ipad got run all the way down so I plugged it in to charge.   I got the icon with the red battery and the little lightning bolt so I thought it would charge if I left it overnight.
But after a few seconds of charging it goes to what looks like the bootup screen (the apple in the center of the screen).  It stays in that screen indefinitely.  I tried holding down home+sleep and it would go back to the battery charging screen but then try to reboot a few seconds later.
Any ideas what I should try next?

No. Just use your iPad and don't obsess about its battery. It will last for years.

    3. Tap the minus sign to close program

  • My Ipad keeps rebooting itself on its own

My Ipad 3 just started rebooting itself on its own.  I had the computer powered off and locked and then turned it on.  It came on and then within 30 seconds shut itself down, only to reboot itself without me touching it.  I am using 7.1.1, I am using AT &T as the carrier.
I have tried to reboot it holding down the on/off button and the home button at the same time as someone suggested that.

I Must be missing the significance of the computer is this discussion.
You could try restoring the device with iTunes on your computer.

  • Why my iPad keep on rebooting 3 times aday

    Why iPad keep rebooting frequently

First, try closing any apps you may have running:
Double-tapping the Home button will bring up the running apps icons along with an app screenshot "card" above the icon. Tap-drag the app's -card- (NOT the icon) up and off the screen.
Then try resetting the device and see if the situation improves any:
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.

  • IPad (4th gen) Wi-Fi keeps rebooting itself

    Good afternoon everybody,
As my subject already states. My current Ipad keeps rebooting. It's almost 3 years now and has the latest IOS just freshly installed on it because of the current rebooting. I've done a full restore of the IOS, full reset and full wipe of the device it still keeps on having this problem. Some days it will turn on some days it will not. it is still detected by windows when i plug it in a USB port.
Any suggestions on solving this problem or is my ipad just slowly reaching it's life cycle. it always lived in a smart cover and i might have gotten some bumps over the years.

When i plug it in my computer itunes says it's in recovery mode again. i've used it last night to check if everything was installed okay. It did. it took me 3 times to install it but at the end i did manage to reinstall my Ipad. but This morning when i watch a video from it, it constantly reboots and now it's in recovery mode.

  • I am having so many problems with my ipads and my computers since I upgraded to Yosemite on my desktop!  I have never been so frustrated with Apple.  My apple at work also has a virus problem and my other MAC keeps rebooting!!  My MAC at home burned

Problems with Yosemite: virus (malware), rebooting, burned hard drive, ipads keep losing wifi.

You're going to have to be more specific about the symptoms you're seeing. At the moment, I really have almost no idea at all what's going on. Also, be aware that upgrading your Mac to Yosemite has no effect whatsoever on your iPads.
If you're having a lot of ad problems or redirects in the web browsers on all these devices, you probably have some kind of network compromise, such as hacked network hardware:
