Ipad Keyboard volume controls don't work?

When I have headphones plugged in to the jack on the keyboard the volume controls don't work. If I plug them in to the jack on the Ipad then the volume controls work. Known bug? Defective unit?
Any help appreciated.

The keyboard controls, but nevermind. I found out they're not supposed to work on the aux jack on the back of the keyboard. Guess I should RTFM
Thanks anyway, everyone!

  • Keyboard volume control does not work

I have an iMac G5, running OS 10.5.8, and a new Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad. My keyboard volume control does not work. Any have ideas as to why ? (I have a similar set-up at work with no volume problems.)

Try system prefs/keyboard/keyboard/ and uncheck Use all F1, F2 etc as standard function keys.
Other wise the volume and brightness controls will only work if you hold down the function key first (fn)

  • Keyboard volume keys don't work after waking from sleep

This problem has existed for many months on my 2009 Mac Pro. I'm running 10.6.3. The problem is reproducible 100% of the time. I use external speakers. Sound output is set to "Line Out."
    1. Boot machine. External speakers work fine. Volume keys on keyboard (F11, F12) work correctly.
    2. Put machine to sleep.
    3. After waking from sleep, F11 and F12 no longer control the volume of the external speakers. The "pop" noise when hitting F11 and F12 is emitted from the internal speaker. The mute key (F10) does work for the external speakers, however.
    4. The keyboard volume controls become responsive again by switching the sound output from Line Out to another output option and then back to Line Out.
This bug is a huge hassle. Does anyone have a solution?

I have several mid-2009 8-core Mac Pro's, all running Snow Leopard, and all have been having this problem as well.
I will not guarantee this is going to work for anyone else....but we have found a (slightly inelegant) workaround for it that has been working for several weeks now without fail.
Prior to putting your MacPro to sleep, run the volume all the way up and leave it there. Afterwards, put it to sleep as usual. We use the keyboard to do this, but I would imagine any method should have the same affect. However, I've not experimented.
Anyway...this has worked 100% of the time for us. The only downside of it is that you have to remember to run it up before....and then back down after waking (else that first alert sound or music file you play will really wake YOU up!)
If this works for anyone else, let me know.
Apple should never have let this one out the door with this bug. Especially, as Apple Support is....wanting, at best.

  • Apple TV messed up Macbook Pro, Keyboard volume controls won't work.

I can't get my Keyboard Volume controls to work on my macbook pro, Apple TV messed it up. This isn't an issue with disabling the remote control infrared receiver. When I want to turn my volume up or down, I have to go to system prefrences and change the volume that way. It's annoying and a big waste of time. Please help me before I throw this computer against the wall.
    Thank You!!

I've got an extremely similar problem. Spillage on the keyboard. Unknown, what it was.
To start with it was dead, no power up.
Then it dried out. There was still a bit of battery power left, and the mouse and track pad worked for a few minutes then it all froze.
So I shut the lid. I left it like that, because I couldnt switch it off.
Much later, opened it up again and all windows opened up, all info was correct,
I was advised to try wireless mouse and keyboard, but you have to get in there before it freezes again.
The battery was charging normally as well.
I made the decision to let the battery die completely and then switch it on again, but sure enough when I did this, it ignored any re-boot command and that's that. Dead as a do-do.
So, without being a computer whizz kid, I presume, it's off to the Apple store for a sizeable bill.
Unless someone else has a cunning plan ????????
I would love to hear it !!!!!!

  • New wireless keyboard & volume keys don't work

I just replaced my wireless keyboard because a few of the keys stopped working. Now the volume keys don't work on the new one. When I push them one of them brings up my widgets and the others minimize the screen. Any Ideas?

Put truly fresh batteries in the keyboard.
Un-pair and re-pair the keyboard with the computer.
    Attempt the PRAM reset again.
If you do not get the 2 boot chimes then I would suggest you reset using a USB keyboard. Any USB keyboard will do. If you don't get the 2 chimes when using a USB keyboard then either you are not holding down the keys correctly / early enough or there is something wrong with the computer itself.
If you do get the 2 boot chimes you can then go back to the wireless keyboard and re-pair it.
Take a peak at this article. It is fairly exhaustive in troubleshooting suggestions for this type of issue: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3048
    Hope that helps.

  • 2G Touch: Music is far too loud. Volume controls don't work.

My Touch is very new and it looks like there is stuff I don't understand yet.
When I play my music, any track, it's way too loud and is injurious to hearing.
I have slid the volume slider all the way to the left. No result. The slider does nothing.
I have used the volume buttons on the left of the Touch. No effect. Way too loud.
I have used the Volume Limiter in Settings>Music. It's all the way to the left. No effect.
Clearly the Touch must not be used to listen to music until I get my volume control working.
"Reset all settings" has no effect on the volume problem.
    Any Suggestions?

    OMG! Found it. Very unintuitive.
The Touch volume controls do not work if the 'Pod is sat in the Apple Universal Cradle. I was using the cradle without the USB cable.
That makes little sense to me.

  • Volume controls don't work in Messages iOS 8. And music stops playing when I open Messages

My volume buttons don't work when I'm in Messages on iOS 8, I can't change the ringer or headphone volume. More annoyingly music stops playing when I open Messages, but I can start it again. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

For all of you, the first thing to do when these things happen after an update, is to close all your open apps and reset. This will cure your ills 99.9% of the time:
Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

  • My earbuds volume control don't work with my iphone, but it does on my ipod?

I've done everything from blowing in the headphone jack to cleaning it with an q-tip and restoring the iphone. i know my ear buds work since the volume up and down and the play and pause controlls all work with my ipod touch but when i try using it with my iphone the controls still don't work. i'm about to go over to apple and get this replaced. the iphone is pretty much new too. i might've gotten some water inside it when i was putting on my screen protector but it wasnt that much.

Count me in. I have the "Backup ccould not be completed" error since november.
Yesterday it worked once right after I restored my iPad while iTunes transfered all the data back to my iPad. So it is definitely not a problem on the iCloud side but on the iPad's Apps side.
My guess is that it might be just one app's data which blocks iOS from backing up correctly...
    Any ideas?

  • Nokia X6 volume controls don't work for music play...

    Hi all
Just brought a new Nokia X6 for my wife and I have an odd problem.
I can start the music player from the home screen and skip forward and backwards a track with no problems. But I can't adjust the volume.
If I start playing music from the home screen and it's too loud or quiet, I have to open the music player itself before I can change the volume.
This seems very odd to me, and I have googled it and looked all the way through the forums here for the X6 and no one else has mentioned it. Does that mean it's only me having this trouble? Or does everyone else not use the music player from the home screen?
Also, I noticed that I cant  fast forward and rewind a track from the home screen. If I hold my finger on the Foward button for an extended period of time, the track continues playing as normal and then ether skips to the next one when I take my finger off, or all the player buttons disapear from the home screen when I take my finger off.
Again, if I do this in the music player itself, the track will fast forward or rewind after a second or two holding the 'button' down. Anyone else tried this?
    Thanks everyone in advance.

Yes, I realise that, but it only works when you are in the media player. If you are playing music from the home screen, then the volume button does nothing!! Is this how it's supposed to work?
I have looke right the way through the manual and it doesn't mention playing music from the home screen at all.
It seems odd to me that Nokia would build a phone expressly for playing music, have music controls on the front screen so that the user would not have to go to the music player to play music, then disable the volume controls on the home screen so the user is forced to go to the music player anyway.

  • Keyboard Volume Controls working erratically

    Hi,
I'm experiencing a strange issue with the mac keyboard volume controls. I have the system set to output both sound and sound effects to some external speakers via the line-out (set in System Prefs). Whenever I reboot my MacPro, the volume control keys stop working with the line-out and revert to controlling the built-in speaker. However, iTunes etc still output via the line-out.
If I try and reset the values in the System preferences, OS X switches the outputs around, but stubbornly leaves the volume keys controlling the internal speaker. If I switch to another User ID, then eveything works fine.
The volume keys had been working fine with the line out and external speakers until this morning...nothing new installed! So i'm puzzled as to why the sudden change! The only thing that was done differently before the shudown was to run the daily/weekly/monthly jobs, but they shouldn't have messed anything up.
I've tried the following 'fixes' which I've found in the forums, but without any permanent success:
    1) Check Software Update - all up to date.
    2) Reset PRAM - no effect at all.
    3) Reset SMC - no effect at all.
    4) Hold down power button until power light flashes - no effect at all.
    5) Verify permissions - no effect at all.
    6) Deleting the ~/Library/preferences/com.apple.BezelServices.plist file then logging out/rebooting. This resolves the issue until I reboot the Mac..then back to square one again. When I check the non-working bezelservices.plist against the one for the working User ID, there is no difference.
Anyone got any ideas on how to resolve this irritating bug - it's almost as bad as having a windows PC back again ?
    MacPro 3Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I've been using SoundSource for a while now because I was having similar problems:
    http://www.rogueamoeba.com/freebies/
I often switch between internal speaker, line out and imic depending on the time of day and what I'm listening to/watching.
SoundSource doesn't completely fix the problem but it does make it easier for switching outputs. I've found that if the kb controls get stuck on one output, I just switch the output in SoundSource to something else and then back to the preferred one and everything works again. Only takes a few seconds...

  • IPad 2 Rotation, Sleep, and Volume Buttons Don't Work.

I have an iPad 2 running 7.1.1 (11D201) and just yesterday the sleep sleep and volume buttons don't work, and the screen won't rotate at all.  I have already tried the following:
Switched the Lock Rotation/Mute settings in General
    Power cycling it
Held the sleep and menu button to reset it (the button worked for that at least)
    Done a network reset
Reset All Settings and restored from backup
Reset All Settings and restored from iCloud
Erase All Content and Settings and restored from backup
Erase All Content and Settings and restored from iCloud
If anyone has any OTHER suggestions besides what I've already tried, I am all ears.  Thanks.

Go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without be charged again.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.
