IPad knocks out wifi for whole household

Hey everyone. Just bought an iPad 2 wifi and every time I use it for more than fifteen minutes it not only loses connection, but knocks out the connection completely. Every other device in the house remains connected to the network, including the iPad, but the internet connection is completely lost and I have to reboot the router. Is anyone else experiencing anything like this?

Sounds like there is a bug in the firmware of your router.
Check for a firmware update on the support web page of your router's manufacturer.

  • IPad mini drops wifi for no apparent reason

My mini constantly drops and regains my wifi signal.  Anyone having similar issues?

    Try #5.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Arch box appears to knock out wifi

I have encountered an interesting problem with my home network. My arch box has been out for a while and during that time I and all others in my apartment have had no issues with wireless connectivity. Recently however, I was able to get my desktop running again and now the standalone wireless router/dsl modem is dropping all of the wireless users. My arch desktop is connected via an ethernet cord and does not experience a loss of connection. But my iPod, netbook(running Windows 7) and my GF's netbook (running Mint) all lose their connection to the router and their ability to reconnect. The router is still broadcasting and appears on lists but no connection seems to be possible to it.
Before my arch box went down a few months back, this issue had been popping up but I had forgotten about it until I got it working again.
Fixing the matter so far has been either physically switching the router on and off or going into the router's software by browser and shutting the wireless radio on and off.
I have yet to figure out what might be causing this and I have found no instances of this in my googling. Any thoughts?

Make sure you Arch Box is not trying to become the definitive DHCP server on the network.  In other words, ensure the dhcp server is not running.
Is your wireless set to the correct regulatory environment? (I cheated and used my moderator privilege -- I see where you are, so this is probably not the issue)
You have not "Optimized" your power output or anything, have you?
Edit:  What is your router?  I had similar issues, re-flashing my Netgear default crippleware firmware with DD-WRT made things work like magic.

  • IPad line-out design flaw - really!!!

I just bought a cable that uses the line out of the ipad to use with my car stereo (Kensington 2-in-1 Charger and Audio Cable for iPhone/iPod)
I first tested the cable by plugging it into some external computer speaker ... hissssss. Then into my nice NAD stereo amp .... hisssss and finally in the car ....... hissssssssssssssss.
I then investigated the hissssssssing problem further and IT APPEARS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW WITH IPADS ! I ordered another cable from Amazon and got the same hiss. I even went to the Apple store and myself and a Genius even tried another iPad with this cable and still got a hiss. To top it off WE USED THE OFFICIAL IPAD DOCK with the line out (using another cable with mini plugs) and still got a hiss.
So peeps, it appears that there is a major problem with the line out on the ipad. Perhaps these cables are at fault but how can you explain using a standard line out cable with mini plugs with the official Apple dock and still getting the same hiss. It's not a very loud hiss but definitely noticeable and renders the ipad line-out useless for anyone who wants to use this device to get better sound quality than the standard headphone out jack on home and car stereo units.

    Michael Morgan1 wrote:
I plug an audio cable between the iPad the the home theater inputs and it sounds fine. And do the same to the powered speakers in the bedroom, and it sounds fine. Or connect a different cable from the iPad to the car radio's AUX to play audiobooks on the road, which sound great. And, of course, headphones sound fine too.
I use my iPod the same way and I expect to use the iPad that way also.
However, about a year ago I drove a rental car that had a USB connection to the sound system. According to the car user manual, that allowed the sound system to pick up sound from the iPod but also allowed the sound system to control the iPod via user inputs. Unfortunately, it required that the iPod have MS formatting and mine has Apple formatting so I never had a chance to play with it.
Having said all that, I suspect (but can't prove) that the OP's problem is that, with ONLY the sound out function being accessed, the noise is reasonable. The cable includes other wires that are unterminated in this configuration. Unterminated wires are a good antenna. The antenna is picking up random noise (hiss) and transferring it to the audio.

  • My new iPad keeps knocking out the whole household's WIFI

I got a new iPad 16GB 4th gen today. I have got as far as connecting to my WIFI to set it up and have typed in my password for the WIFI. • I was downloading the update for my ipad and it kicked me off of wifi and won't log back in and the download can't finish with out wifi

I was downloading the update for my ipad.  The wifi stopped working and when I try to enter my password it says cannot connect.  The download won't finish unless I'm connected to my wifi.  Any suggestions?

    First restart your WiFi router.
You can also try resetting your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.
Try again to see if the problem persists.

  • Estimated delivery dates for iPad 4 with wifi and cellular UK

I have ordered the new iPad 32gb With wifi and cellular data and on my account it just says late November. Is there any way to find out a more specific date as I am going away and want to take it with me?? Would I have to ring Apple and ask?

    No one here will know
I doubt ringing will change anything as Apple
will update orders as soon as they can see supply to apply to the orders
You will find the number for UK on the  order document

  • My ipad logged out from my wifi, and won't log back. It says the password in incorrect.

Yesterday my iPad logged out of my wifi, and now won't log back in. It finds it but then tells me the password is incorrect. My wife's iPad and my lap to work fine on the same password. I've turned wifi on and off, I've reset network functions but no use. Any ideas?

Hi On your iPad in Wifi click on Forget this network ie your wifi service name Then Turn your Router off for 30 Seconds Then Try again. If this doesn't solve the problem. You may need to do a Factory Reset and Restore IPAD as new this will get rid of any bugs. Also later on website check for any Firmware update for your make of Router. Cheers Brian

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

After all you've tried, Dah*veed is probably right about needing warranty assistance.
But first check to be sure Settings-Airplane Mode is set to OFF, and Settings-WiFi-WiFi is set to ON.
Try unplugging your WiFi router for a few seconds.  Then reset the iPad's network.  Go to Settings-General-Reset-Reset Network Settings.  You will need to reconnect to your WiFi.
