IPad Left on Roof of Vehicle, Flies Off While Driving, Survives Intact

.: Not a question, but a story I'd like to share with you. The incident served to illustrate how sturdy and robust the iPad is (2011 model). This is my Facebook post about what happened:
Note to self: Remember that when you put your iPad on the roof of your RAV4 and then forget it's there, don't drive away later in the day before removing it from said roof.
So this happened: I was out for coffee early Sunday morning, and on the way home, stopped for groceries and bread. Arriving home, I opened the hood, got out of my vehicle and put the iPad on the roof, and added more windshield washer fluid to the RAV4. Then I took the groceries into the house, forgetting about the iPad.
Later in the day, I went to buy some Christmas cards. I drove to South Edmonton Common, bought the cards, and drove home. About a kilometer from home, something suddenly flew by the driver's side window, so close that I ducked. Then I realized: you idiot, it was your iPad!
I couldn't stop the car, as I was driving west down 23rd Ave in traffic. I turned at the light and parked in the strip mall parking lot at the corner, and started walking back down 23rd Street to retrieve the iPad, assuming it was destroyed. As I got closer, I saw that it had landed face-up, with its case open. Vehicles were driving over it, but hadn't crushed it. It had landed exactly in the middle of the left lane.
I couldn't believe it was still intact. When there was a break in traffic, I rushed onto the avenue, retrieved it, and scrambled back to the sidewalk. I figured at least 30-50 vehicles would have driven over it, but none had driven ON it. I couldn't believe it was still intact. Weird thing is, the screen said that it had to cool down before I could use it again, despite it being quite cold. I walked back to my car, and when I got home, plugged it in to recharge, and it was fine.
Note to self: never put your iPad (or anything else) on the roof of your car ever again.

  • How do I prevent my Bluetooth from cutting on and off while driving?

Hi. Just bought a Honda Pilot 2013. I have been having trouble pairing the car's phone system and my Galaxy S III so that it works consistently. If the car is moving and I'm talking on the car phone, the call will switch back and forth between the speaker on the handheld phone itself and the car phone. This also happens if you are trying to listen to Pandora - while driving the music will be playing on the car speakers and then it will drop off and the screen will say something like 'Can't locate a bluetooth device'. If the car is in 'park', this doesn't seem to be a problem. And, in either situation, the bluetooth on my phone says it is 'On.'
Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

        Dear DavidLeon65,
Good afternoon. I am sorry to learn of the difficulties you are experiencing with the bluetooth connection in your car. I know this can be frustrating. It would be my pleasure to address your bluetooth concerns.
When the bluetooth connection drops out, is the phone near you? Also, do you have Wi-Fi turned on? If so, please turn off Wi-Fi, then test. What software version do you have? For directions on how to check the software verison on your phone, click http://vz.to/SrMyDh

  • HT4623 My ipad screen is blank, it suddenly shut off while I was using it, can anyone help or advise, I would be very grateful

My ipad screen has gone blank, I was using it and suddenly blank screen. I have tried connecting to power point for charging but nothing. I hope that someone can advise me I would be most grateful

Connect it to the wall charger and wait about an hour.
Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.

  • ITunes continue where iPod/iPhone/iPad left off.

    Hello,
I was wondering if it's possible for iTunes to continue (in my case the iPhone) where the iPod/iPhone/iPad left off.
    Example:
I'm driving home and streaming Playlist "ABCD" over Bluetooth to my radio.
When i arrive home and turn off the engine and the radio turns off, the iPhone is at Playlist "ABCD", Song 368 of 412, at 2:16 (m:s).
Now i go to my PC, press play and it continues right where the iPhone stopped. Playlist "ABCD", Song 368 of 412, at 2:16 (m:s).
I would like to know if this is possible, and if so, how do I configure it to do so.
    Sincerely,
    Maurice

They appear to be hard-coded into the application binary and not available. I can't find them anywhere in the resources in the bundle, anyway.
For what purpose do you need them? Perhaps if we knew what you wanted them for, someone might be able to come up with a suggestion. Note that the images will be copyrighted by Apple and not usable in any public setting (web site, another app, a publication, etc.) without a license from Apple.

  • When I click on a tab in the toolbar the tab flies off the screen to the right. Suddenly after using firefox for years I cannot load any pages

I'm using Windows XP. I've used Firefox for years but in recent weeks I've had the following problem. When I endeavour to open an internet site the tab appears in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen instead of loading the page. When I click on the tab it appears to fly across the right of screen and disappears from view. Fortunately we've left an internet page OPEN so that we can redirect our search via that. Today we had a power cut and now I cannot get Firefox to load anything. At the moment I'm using Explorer to write this. We've made no changes to our system and we're continuing to use the same virus checker we're had for years. (Kaspersky)
One last point. When I try to load any site in Links the tab changes to the correct name but then flies off as I've previously mentioned. When I right click on the tab and choose Max or Min I have no reaction. I've tried rebooting the computer and turning it off but this does not fix the problem. I've also uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled the latest version all to no avail. Please, can someone help? Micam

  • As I scroll through a file, it drops to the bottom or flies off the side of my screen. It reopens when i click the file, but why is is flying off of my screen?

I am having a new issue with my Macbook Pro.
As I scroll through to review a file the file flies off to the side or drops off the bottom of the screen.
I can reopen the file okay but scroll 3 or 4 times and it whooshes off the screen again.
This has never happened before this morning.
I wonder if it is not a symptom of a bigger problem.
I have been downloading Shutterstock files for the last few days & have 100 images in the file that is acting up.
Could it be that the file is stuffed too full?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Shannon

I'm going to assume you don't have a fancy multiple monitor desktop...
This page contains a script that positions the browser window at the upper left. If Firefox is your default browser, then copy the following:
    http://dev.jeffersonscher.com/jstest.html
and paste it somewhere that you can click it, such as a Word document or an email. If you have enabled the Run command on the Start Menu (more info: [http://www.nirmaltv.com/2009/01/15/enable-run-command-in-start-menu-in-windows-7/ How to Enable Run Command in Start Menu in Windows 7]) then you can simply paste it into the Run box and click OK to launch it in the browser.
If the script method doesn't work, you can use the slow method. With the Firefox window active, press Alt+Spacebar to open the control menu, then press the right arrow once, then press the left arrow repeatedly until the window comes into view. When you can see enough of it to be able to click and drag its title bar, press Enter to complete the move operation.
    Any luck?

  • My ipad 2 keeps turning itself on and off, why?

Alright, so I finally decided to update my ipad. I went to settings, pressed update and the ipad screen told me to connect it to itunes. I connected it to itunes, and it said i had to restore my system. It supposedly updated, but while it was restoring, I accidently took the usb off. Ever since then my ipad has been forever turning on and off, starting with the black screen, brightening up showing the apple sign, and back to the black screen again in a never ending cycle. I've tried taking it off regularly and it fails to work. I've tried plugging it back into my computer and itunes, and it doesnt show up there for some apparent reason. The only reason I could get it to stop is when I hold down the power and home button together, and it turns off.  Whenever i plug it back into anything, as in the wall charger or computer, it then again repeats its never ending cycle. Can someone please help me out? I've had this ipad for about 5 months now, and have never experienced a problem like this.
    Thanks.

Try turning off the iphone by tolding the sleep button and slide to power off.  Then turn it on again by holding the said button.  Sounds like a glitch and the iphone needs a revamping.

  • HT201263 after updating my ipad 2 to ios7 it keeps shutting off and turning on

after updating my ipad 2 to ios7 it keeps shuttingn off and turning on.

    Hey moniemack,
When troubleshooting power issues, the following article provides the most relevant information. While it pertains to iPhones, most steps are applicable for an iPad:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
    - Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
    - Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion.
    Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
    - Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
    - After at least 15 minutes, if:
                   - The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
                   - The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
                   - Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
    - If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
                   - If the display turns on, go to step 4.
                   - If the display remains black, go to next step.
    - Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to
restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
    - If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Ipad is frozen, after sliding the log off bar the screen is grey and a small circular icon is spinning in the centre of the screen.

My Ipad has been freezing up.  I just tried to log off and after sliding the log off bar the screen is grey and there is a small circular icon spinning in the centre of the screen.  Over half an hour now.  Has anyone run into this before?

Try and hole the home button and power off button at the same time until the iPad shuts off,do not let to of either button until you see the Apple appear in the screen. This will reset your iPad without loosing anything and try power off with the slide bar again after you complete the steps.
    Hope this helps.
