Ipad + macbook air = ideal tablet pc

First, let me just say that I am not sure where the best place is to post suggestions, so I'm just posting it here.  If there is a more appropriate place, let me know.
I have enjoyed using my iPad, however I also find myself frequently lugging around my laptop for work and games.  An ideal solution for me (as well as some of my friends, and therefor the entire population of the planet) would be a full PC in the form of an iPad w/ touchscreen, with a full OS, much larger screen (17 inches), and a way to prop the tablet up for use as a monitor when I want to use a keyboard and mouse.  Judging from the thinness of the macbook air, this seems like a very reasonable evolution of the PC, and it seems that Apple is in a prime position to once again revoultionize the laptop market, in a much more serious way than the iPad.
This is not a new idea of course, but I thought I would still show my support, as I would spend up to $3000 for a reasonably powerful tablet pc.  Does anyone alse agree?

I have an iPhone 5 and I want to know if I delete all the photos on this device will it also delete them on my iPad, MacBook Air and my desktop?

No, I accidently erased my pic's and my Music from my iPhone 5 when I hooked it up to my New iMac Air when I sync it.  I thought when you sync it saves all your Data from my iPhone,,,,Wrong!  It did the opposite, and saved what was on my iMac Air to my iPhone, which was Nothing, since it was Brand new.  It won't delete the pic's from my iPad.  Lucky for me, I downloaded them all back to my iPhone from iCloud.

  • Wireless printer, iPad, MacBook Air

I have a MacBook Air, iPad one, Brother 5520dw wireless printer, and an HP PC Desktop. How can I get the wireless to work for my MacBook and iPad?? The Brother printer is not on the list of supported AirPrint printers. is this a job for Printopia or Print N Share or another app?

    Hi Dagnabit47,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like there is an issue adding a wireless printer on your MacBook Air. The article linked below will walk you through the process of adding the printer and ensure the MacBook Air setup correctly.
OS X Mavericks: Set up a printer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14143
    Add a Wi-Fi printer
Follow the instructions that came with the printer to connect it to your Wi-Fi network and turn it on. Use the instructions to unpack the printer, install ink or toner, and add paper. For more information, see this article:
Apple Support article: Connecting a Wi-Fi printer to your Wi-Fi network
Choose Apple menu > Software Update to make sure OS X has the latest information about printer software it can download from Apple. If Software Update doesn’t list an update for your printer, you have the latest software.
Open a document to print, then choose File > Print.
Open the Printer pop-up menu and choose your printer in the Nearby Printers section of the menu. If you don’t see your printer, choose Add Printer from the Printer pop-up menu.
A dialog appears listing printers on your local network. It may take a minute or two for your printer to appear.
If you’re asked for an administrator name and password
Select your printer when it appears in the list, and then click Add. OS X automatically uses AirPrint if your printer supports it, or it selects printer software (also called a printer driver) and downloads it from Apple if necessary.
    I hope this helps.

  • IP address not found? Ipad/macbook air webdav & airport express

I finally got my macbook air set up to use the webDAV with my iPad3.  For the longest time it was erroring, and not working, but now I finally got it to actually try connecting, but it says the server is not found.
I have Airport Express as my router which is assigning my computer an IP address as "xx.x.x.xx"  I'm not sure if this format is the problem, or if there is something else I need to adjust on the macbook air to allow it to be found, or if I missed something in the webDAV set up that would cause this issue.
I have been working on this all day, so this is officially driving me nuts.  If anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Cher

padlock symbol means that you need to either input your network password or you need to input your computer admin password.... whichever is applicable to the current situation.
If you bring down the airport menu item and click on Join Other Network, do you get a blank for network and password. Fill those in and see what happens. You did create a wifi network name?
Did you setup a wireless network? If not, then that would have to be one step in your procedure.

  • All notes just disappeared from "Notes" app on iPhone, iPad, Macbook Air and iCloud. Where are they?

For months they are there. Yesterday-- all gone! What the heck happened? Was it something I did? What can I do to get them back?

You will have to do more than simply changing settings in your moms account. To set up everything in your own account, go to Settings > iCloud > scroll down and press sign out. From this, check out this link for how to setup iCloud on all of your devices after making a new icloud account on your phone: https://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/
Before you set that up, you will have to make a new iCould account which you can simply do after you sign out of your mom's account on your devices.
    Hope I can help!

  • IPhoto on my macbook air does not see my ipod nano 2nd generation. Is there a way to get the photos from this device into my photo stream without wiping them, which will happen if I sync with iTunes

I have photos on an old 2nd generation ipod nano, that have since been wiped from any other source.
I now have a shared photostream through icloud between all my other apple deivces (iphone, ipod, ipad, macbook air, apple tv), but I cant find a way to get the ipod nano photos onto the stream. The original photo files were detroyed with an old computer, that also had the itunes library to which the nano was linked.
The photos are the only items I want from the nano. Can anyone help?

You need to copy the photos off of the Nano and onto your MacBook Air first.
The photos you synced to your iPod through iTunes are no longer in their full resolution, but instead are scaled down thumbnails of those photos.  So if you do manage to get them off your iPod, they will be quite small in size compared to the original ones you lost.
In order to get them off of your iPod, you'll need the help of some sort of 3rd party software. Here is one option.

  • Which is better for writers, iPad or Macbook Air?

In the market for a portable writing product since my MacBook Pro is getting older and not that easy to carry around.  Write in Word and have a blog to manage.  Would an iPad work easily or should I choose MacBook Air? Esp. since I'll need to purchase a new MBP later.

Well, as for iOS 7... it does pretty much the same things as iOS 6 :-)
As for swipe-toggling screens for research, I wouldn't recommend it for the following reasons:
    * first, every time you toggle screen you're dragging 4 fingers across the screen. Wow-factor in the Apple store, not so much as an every-day routine. Tip: you can do it via the keyboard (apparently.... I found a how-to but got tired of it halfway through and never resumed it... it's not as straightforward as it should be)
    * second, you're toggling into a web browser that's far less capable than a standard one, hold less tabs in a convenient way. Sure, there's no hard limit, but after 4-5 tabs it gets messy. And you can't open another window of the same browser, so you're just stuck.
Just for comparison, as I write I have 16 tabs open just in one window of my browser. Of course, some of those tabs are used by mail and facebook, whereas the iPad has dedicated apps, but for the rest, as they say... there isn't an app for that, and I need all of those tabs.
And, big deal, god knows why the iPad can't hold still those tabs! I mean, if you let a tab sit still for 2 minutes (I haven't actually timed it, but it's short), that tab has to re-load when you open it! Not ideal when I just want to continue watching that page...
Just some fodder for thought :-)

  • Streaming pics from Macbook Air onto iPad

    Hi all
I recently delved into the world of the iPad. Now I've had a play around and got myself set up but I have one question.
On my Macbook Air (iPhoto) and on my NAS I have lots of photos. Ideally when I'm on my home network I'd like to be able to stream them onto my iPad without having to physically add them onto my iPad.
Is this possible? I was thinking this is how my iCloud account could help but apparently not.
    Cheers, Sam.

OK, so now the video is no longer streaming (even from my iTunes library). I'm getting a msg on the my Sony HDTV that says "This content requires HDCP for playback. HDCP isn't supported by your HDMI connection. This content requires HDCP for playback". If my connection doesn't support HDCP (whatever that is), shouldn't I never have been able to stream video (instead of having the ability only 15 minutes ago)? I haven't changed any setup/configuration since having the ability to stream video.

  • Macbook air or iPad air for mobile use with iMac at home

Ok i have a 2012 21 imac and i love this machine. I also have a 2013 13 macbook air for mobil use at work and in class. I am considering though selling the Macbook air and strictly getting an iPad air for my mobile computing needs. I already always use iCloud for all my doc and i don't do anything beyond taking notes for class, web browsing, email, iMessage and occasionally remote desktop support support for things at work on my macbook air. I believe an iPad air could fill all those needs and with something like the clam case pro for the iPad air when it comes out would be perfect for my desire to always type on a real keyboard instead of a virtual one. but I'm still a little unsure. Ive had a laptop and a desktop since 2005 so I'm a little apprehensive to ditch the laptop in favor of a tablet.
What are everyones thoughts and advice?

Personally, the iPad is NOT a very good laptop replacement and you are getting a much more limited mobile OS.
If you already have a MacBook Air, it is a more capable mobile device and has the instant on capability as an iPad.
With your MacBook Air, you get the full OS X operating experience, also.
Plus, iPads do not have a bulit-in keyboard and trackpad and doesn't have all of the ports and connections your MacBook Air has.
Plus, your MacBook Air has a bigger screen, more RAM and more hard drive storage than an iPad.
An iPad is a downgrade from your MacBook Air.
Why would you even consider a downgrade to an iPad from a much more capable MacBook Air.
Stick with your MacBook Air. It is head and shoulders much better mobile Apple device than iPad.

  • Ipad air vs macbook air for personal use

ipad air vs macbook air , what is the difference? personal use

One is a tablet and one is a laptop computer. I have an iPad and a MacBook Air and for my uses the MacBook is by far the main one that I use because it has a keyboard. I find it much easier to use for anything that involves more than very minimal typing.

  • I have a new iPad that uses the Cloud.  But my iMac, my MacBook Air, and my iPhone are all older.  How can I link my mail accounts that aren't on the cloud withntiPhone

Does anyone know how to sync my email account which is on my iMac, my MacBook Air, and my iPhone with my new iPad that uses the Cloud.  none of my other Apple devices can use the cloud.   Please Help me use the same email account on my iPad!

I have a MacBook Air, bought in 2010 or 2011.  It is running OS 10.6.8.
I have an iMac that is the same age as my MacBook Air.  My iPhone is 2nd or 3rd generation.
None can support "the Cloud".  I use gmail and my iPhone and both computers are all synced.
I can't get email on my new iPad that does use "The Cloud".

  • I have had to change my email address/Apple ID. my iPad recognisIes the change of id but on my MacBook Air, iCloud just keeps asking me for a password for the old email address/account. How can I get iCloud to recognise the new details? Help please!

I have had to change my email address/Apple ID. My iPad recognises the new detail in iTunes and iCloud but when I go into iCloud through my MacBook Air, it requests a password for the old email account which I can no longer use. There is no Option to be able to change this email/ID detail as I cannot get further than the password request. Can anyone help please - this is driving me insane?!

Go to System Preferences and click Sign Out, select Delete at all the prompts, then sign back in with the changed ID?   (Your iCloud data will disappear from your Mac when you sign out and choose Delete, but will still be in iCloud.  Provided you are signing back into the same account your data will reappear on your Mac when you sign back in.)

  • How do I transfer my MacBook Air to my wife so she can sync her iTunes account and other settings with her iPad Mini?

How do I transfer my MacBook Air to my wife so she can sync her iTunes account and other settings with her iPad Mini?

You can change the account shortname to whatever you wish to use.
As you can see from my example above. Once you click on the Create User button a new account will be created.
She will need to get her own Apple ID setup so when she starts with iTunes she can open her own iTunes account unless you both want to share the use of the same Apple ID. This can create a bit of confusion if you have your own iPads or iPhones or iPods. As you have discovered it's pretty much one iDevice with one Apple ID.
As for the iTunes library that becomes a more complicated issue.

  • How do i pair my macbook air with my iPad??

How do I pair my macbook air with my iPad???

What do you mean by "pair"? If you're asking about Bluetooth pairing, the only thing you could do if you paired them would be to share the iPad's internet connection. iOS doesn't have the BT profiles for file sharing or syncing.
If you're asking about something different, please provide some details.
    Best of luck.
