IPad Mail ignores Delete = Never

When I delete email from iPad Mail it also deletes from POP3 account, even though Settings are Delete = Never.
I have repeatedly removed the account, reset the iPad, then again set up the mail account. However, it always ignores this setting. I have several POP3 accounts, each on different servers, and iPad deletes mail from each despite the settings.
Does Delete=Never work on POP3 for anybody out there? I have not had this problem with my iPhones.

Hi Maggot
I have a 3G iPad. I am currently only using wireless as I haven't researched the 3G plans yet, but if you have only wireless, perhaps your settings are different.
Under advanced, at the top of the screen, there is a heading that says 'mailbox behaviors', with three options under it: 'drafts mailbox' 'sent mailbox' and 'trash mailbox'.
When I chacked the setting for my yahoo account, I noticed that I have fewer options. Among the variations, I still get 'trash mailbox' but no 'sent mailbox'.
Perhaps the settings vary depending on what sort of email account you are using.
I did find out that with my ISP account, it wasn't downloading my emails to my iPad so much as allowing me to view my account online. Like logging directly into your ISP when you are using a public computer. When I hit delete, it is deleting the emails from my ISP server (based on the settings I described in my earlier post). When I turn my regular computer on and open Outlook, all my email downloads to my computer, except what I deleted from the server using iPad. Only as soon as I download to my computer, those emails are no longer accessible on the iPad. I can no longer view emails downloaded to my computer on my iPad as it's no longer on my ISP server. This is likely why you can't just hit delete on the iPad, and why delete from the server does allow you to delete instead of that annoying message telling you you can't. Hope that made sense.
Its annoying I can't view the email on my iPad after downloading to my computer, because I am loving how email displays on the iPad. I might be able to look at changing my computer settings to leave a copy on the server when it downloads my email. I'm sure I've seen that somewhere. Shouldn't be a problem as my iPad can delete from the server.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help. If you haven't got the same settings as I have, I'm not sure how to fix it for you. Hopefully some if this info will help you, though.

Then you are both talking rubbish. IMAP is designed for multiple client access to the same inbox, and requires either POP3 collection, or explicit deletion from the server, to remove an email.
IMAP deletion should NEVER delete from the server, if you choose not to do so. I have a netbook and a desktop PC using the same inbox. The Netbook uses IMAP, the desktop PC uses POP3. I can delete a message from the Netbook, and it leaves the email on the server, for the desktop PC to collect via POP3.
From Wikipedia "E-mail clients using IMAP generally leave messages on the server until the user explicitly deletes them."
The way the iPad is handling it, is wrong... but then again, this is Apple we're talking about. They will no doubt patent this incorrect behaviour, and market it as a "new invention".

  • IPad Mail not deleting from server

Does anyone else have this problem? I have my mail accounts set so that they should delete emails from the server as soon as they are deleted from ipad. It doesn't seem to work though.. as I just came back home after a trip and all the dozens of email messages came flooding into my Mac inbox
Does anyone have any suggestions? Do I also need to delete the mail on the ipad's mail trash perhaps...

SO SORRY for not responding.... For some reason I have not been getting emails saying there are replies to this topic.
As it happened, I thought I had solved the problem, but I haven't...
In the settings for my email accounts, I am offered the option of my emails being deleted from their server as soon as I delete them from the iPad email inbox. However, when I choose this option, they are not deleted.
DAVID I do not have the setting that you describe available for my email accounts either... It seems that different setting options appear according to the nature of the email account that is being set up.
It is clear to me that the way I have set things up is correct for what I want though, as it's very clearly stated in Settings... It's just not happening....

  • IPad Pop3 email deleting from mail server even though set to NEVER

    Hello.
We are experiencing a most strange behaviour with our e-mail.  We use a web host and access e-mail through POP3.
Two of our users are experiencing similar problems, and this is how their lives are setup:
    1) Outlook 2010, set to remove e-mail from server once downloaded, however, we are manually polling to receive e-mails at will, rather than periodically.
    2) iPad 2 3G - Set to delete e-mails from server "never".
    3) iPhone 5 (ios 6) - Set to delete e-mails from server "never".
One of the users is receiving e-mails to their iPad, but not to either of the other two devices, sometimes to the two i-devices but not t Outlook, and sometimes to all three.  Occasionally, they are not receiving e-mails at all.
I have talked to our web host, and in all instances and testing we have done with them, they can see e-mails received, and deleted from the server. However, their logs cannot tell us anymore than that.
    Here's the scenario:
    1) Send an e-mail.  Check the web host e-mail interface and can see the e-mail has arrived in the user's inbox.
    2) Open e-mail on iPad.  Receive e-mail.  Refresh webmail to see if e-mail is still present, and it is.
    3) Hit send/receive in Outlook 2010.  E-mail not received in Outlook 2010.  Refresh webmail to see if e-mail is still present.  It is not.
So from all indications, it looks like doing a send/receive in Outlook is deleting the message from the server, but it is not being received in outlook.  I should note here that we have done extensive searches to check if the e-mail was received into some other folder, and have setup a search folder of all e-mails received today, just to make sure we weren't missing anything. The e-mails are indeed never reaching Outlook.
If we hit send/receive in Outlook 2010 after we receive the e-mail on the iPad AND HAVE CLOSED THE E-MAIL APP on the IPAD, then we DO receive the e-mail into Outlook 2010, and it disappears from the server.
This would leave me to guess that POP3 is trying to latch on to the e-mail on the server from both the iPad and Outlook 2010 at the same time and is failing, but Outlook is deleting the message from the server before it can actually download it because iPad has POP3 locked.
Anyone have any experience with this?  Any way to stop it from happening?

    Was this ever resolved?

  • HT3228 My Bellsouth/Yahoo mail automatically deletes from server on my iPad Mini. There is no option under Advanced to change this to "never". This does not happen on my iPhone or my Mac.

I have a new iPad mini. My Bellsouth/Yahoo mail account deletes mail from the server. There is no setting under Advanced to change delete from server. this is not a problem on my iPhone or MAC, only the iPad. It is also not a problem with my other mail accounts.

Because Airplaying to a Mac natively is not supported.
    Using AirPlay
As discussed in the article, newer Macs can AirPlay to an Apple TV or Airport Express.

  • Using iPad mail program I have a draft of an email. I attempted to "cancel" and "delete draft" but it is still on my screen even after shutting down and restarting. How do I exit so that I can use other mail functions?

Using iPad mail program I have a draft of an email. I have attempted to "cancel" this and "delete draft" but the email stays on my screen. How can I exit this so that I can use other email functions?

Try closing the Mail app completely and see if it works properly when you re-open the app : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

I am soooooooooooo confused now.  Ok, if you are having problems with Yahoo Mail and Gmail but you do not use Apple's Mail you need to do the following:
1 - Post in Yahoo's Mail forums and/or contact their tech support.
2 - Post in Gmails forums and/or contact their tech support.
Neither of the above are Apple's products.

  • Mail app in iPad - how to delete outgoing message

I am trying to set up my POP accounts in my iPad.  It's a frustrating process.  I still haven't got it all working right.  But what's bugging me right now is that I have two messages that I tried to send as tests to see if the POP accounts were working.  They're not, and for the past 2 days the iPad insists on trying to send them every 5 minutes or so.  So about every 5 minutes I get these two error messages telling me that the messages couldn't be sent.  I can't find them anywhere to delete them, they're lurking somewhere in the iPad screaming because they're trapped and can't get out.  Please help them.

Hi Judy.  Thank you for the thoughtful reply.
The Sent Folder is not the problem.  (This comment doesn't appear here but did appear in the email I received.)  The messages don't even appear in the Sent Folder because they haven't left yet.
I had already read the iOS: Unable to send or receive email article.  This information did not help me.
I have read the Apple - Support - iPad - Mail Assistant article and have tried turning on a different SMTP server, one that is working, for the account that is not working.  Curiously, it is the same server.  I have two email addresses on the same server.  One works, the other doesn't.  Could this be the problem, that I've entered the same STMP server twice instead of simply using the same one for both accounts?  I tried turning on the one that works, but can't find a way to elimiate the one that doesn't work.  The problem is not solved, the test emails are still in limbo and I'm still receiving the error messages.

You don't mention what device and iOS version you are using so I'll give you a generic fix for now.
You can try resetting your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.
Try to download and run the app again to see if the problem persists.

How do I free up > 2GB of memory in ipad mail.
Was a problem in IOS7, and STIL there after 8.0.2 upgrade :-((.

  • Ipad mail deleted

we have a mystery with a new ipad. mail in the in box is being removed with out any action on our part. if we read mail today, shut down , then start up again tomorrow, the mail which was in the in box is gone without a trace. i tis not in the deleted box. by the way, we did not update to the latest version of the operating system.

I have also had mail disappear. It happens somewhat randomly but I will see a new email arrive and then I look again and it has disappeared. I have two accounts, the first is a POP account and the second is a MS Exchange account.
I know I have lost email on the Exchance account. The server is set up to transfer the email to my laptop when it connects but this has happened both when the laptop is running and I am logged in with the Exchange client running and also when the laptop is shut off. The sys-admin has checked my email settings as well as the server settings and does not see anything that would cause the server to delete email.
This has only started happening since I upgraded to the latest iOS 4.3 which came out recently.

  • Delete/synch iPad mail

I have an older iPad (hand-me-down) and am trying to get control of MAIL.  Two Problems:
#1.... every time I synch the iPad with my computer, all the mail I have on the computer goes to the iPad  (100s!).  I've been patiently going through them and delete/trash as many as I can---- but the next time I 'synch', the messages re-appear.  I want to keep these messages on my main computer; but I don't want them cluttering the iPad.  Is there a way to set Mail preferences (or synch preferences?) so that only new mail goes to the iPad/???
#2....  after deleting/sending to Trash  old messages which have been synched to the iPad, I often get the message "this message cannot be moved to the trash"....  I'm guessing the Trash is full????? how do I empty it???
this should be simple.... BUT I simply cannot figure it out.  Any ideas??
    thanks so much.

  • IPad mail crashes

I just updated my iPad 3 to iOS 6.3.1 and my mail crashes every time I try to open it. I messed with the accounts and found that GMAIL is the cause. I have tried powering it on and off, a hard reset, resetting the network settings, deleting the gmail account and then adding it back and nothing has fixed the problem. To make things even worse the iPad can no longer access WiFi as it now says the password is incorrect. iOS 6.3.1 *****. I would advise people not to update. The last thing I will be trying before going to apple is a fresh restore. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

  • IPad Mail app produces empty emails when synched with Yahoo Mail

When I sync my iPad's Mail app with my AT&T/YaHoo web mail account, dozens of identical emails appear in my iPad Mail Inbox. All are marked (No Sender), (No Subject) and "This message has no content" and show 12/31/69 as the "Sent" date. Clicking on them opens a blank viewing page in the right pane with the notation "No Message Selected". They are all marked Unread. When I select Edit in the left pane, no circle appears to the left of these emails so they cannot be selected and moved or deleted. These strange emails do not hinder my use of Mail but their presence aggravates me. I'd like to get rid of them and also find out why they are appearing. I've tried hard booting. This problem is unique to my iPad; Mail works fine on my iMac. Syncing my iPad to my iMac does not get rid of the strange emails. I do not sync to Cloud.

Hi Csound1, thanks. The email host is 1and1.co.uk, however, i am going to fess up and make myself look like a plonker now -
the email account in question was set up in Outlook as POP - stupid, stupid, stupid me, wasted an afternoon on this!  I have now changed the Outlook account to IMAP and Mail.app works perfectly - and looks much nicer than Outlook did.  Im in the middle of converting from Windows to a Mac, and still finding my way around the Mac
The lesson learned, never assume - always double  check!  All my other email addresses with 1and1 are all imap, except this one, and it happened to be the first one I set up in the Mail.app. (bows head in disgrace!)
Thank you anyway for attempting to help me!
    Cheers
