IPad Mail Inbox Puzzle

Suddenly my iPad mail inbox shows 11,497 unread messages  --  except that when the inbox is selected there are no messages.  When new messages are received they can be opened, read and deleted.  Still the inbox shows 11,497 unread messages.  Where do I go from here?  Operating system is 7.1.2.

This is not the discussion thread for your question but if you can get a copy (hard or .pdf) of your particular iPad manual you should look at re-booting the unit. But first you should close all your open apps. Hit the home button twice quickly the screen will shrink and show open apps to the right of the main page. Swipe UPWARD the apps that are open(to the right of the main page). The open apps will close and disappear and repeat until none are left to the right of the main page. Then follow your main manual to re-boot the iPad. Usually hold the power down top button and the home button at the same time. The screen will go blank and either restart after a minute or so or restart by hitting the top button.
Your manual should indicate how to power down and restart the iPad.
This may work. The same problem happened to me and I think this is how I fixed it.
Other wise go the the Apple Support site and you can work thru the links to find the iPad and its Tech manuals which you can open and read to find trouble shooting and normal use of the unit. Book mark this link. There are iPad SYSTEM menu items that say reset the iPad and I think that may wipe out some remembered WiFi info which you might have to re-enter all that hidden log on and account e-mail account data +password and may not be needed.
Good luck.

  • IPad Mail app produces empty emails when synched with Yahoo Mail

When I sync my iPad's Mail app with my AT&T/YaHoo web mail account, dozens of identical emails appear in my iPad Mail Inbox. All are marked (No Sender), (No Subject) and "This message has no content" and show 12/31/69 as the "Sent" date. Clicking on them opens a blank viewing page in the right pane with the notation "No Message Selected". They are all marked Unread. When I select Edit in the left pane, no circle appears to the left of these emails so they cannot be selected and moved or deleted. These strange emails do not hinder my use of Mail but their presence aggravates me. I'd like to get rid of them and also find out why they are appearing. I've tried hard booting. This problem is unique to my iPad; Mail works fine on my iMac. Syncing my iPad to my iMac does not get rid of the strange emails. I do not sync to Cloud.

Hi Csound1, thanks. The email host is 1and1.co.uk, however, i am going to fess up and make myself look like a plonker now -
the email account in question was set up in Outlook as POP - stupid, stupid, stupid me, wasted an afternoon on this!  I have now changed the Outlook account to IMAP and Mail.app works perfectly - and looks much nicer than Outlook did.  Im in the middle of converting from Windows to a Mac, and still finding my way around the Mac
The lesson learned, never assume - always double  check!  All my other email addresses with 1and1 are all imap, except this one, and it happened to be the first one I set up in the Mail.app. (bows head in disgrace!)
Thank you anyway for attempting to help me!
    Cheers

  • My ipad mail is synced to my iMac mail account. On iPad, I can only see my inbox and sent messages. I can't see any of the folders I have created on my iMac. How do I do that? Probably a dumb question, but I know there's a lot of smart people out there!

My iPad mail is synced to my private email account, which I organise on my iMac. On iPad, I can only see inbox and sent messages folders, not any of the other folders in my email account I have created on my iMac. How do I get iPad to show my other folders? Probably a dumb question, but I know there's a lot of smart people out there.

If you select a mailbox, you should get an Edit button (easier to see in landscape mode). Clicking the button will provide you with check circles for the messages. You also get Delete and Move buttons at the bottom. Check the messages you want to move and then navigate to the mailbox you want to drop them into. I think as long as you can navigate to a mailbox you can move the messages to it.
In the Mac Mail application and probably Outlook on the Windows side, you also setup rules to move messages to specific mailboxes. If the mailboxes are stored on the server, then you can have the sorting done on the server and they should appear that way on the iPad. If your later messages do not show up, you may need to have the iPad app pulled down more messages until they are all showing.

I am unable to open scanned documents (with .jpg file extension) in my e-mail inbox, on the Mail app on my iPad. Please provide a clear answer. Thanks a lot.

Can you actually see that the attachment has a .jpg extension?  Some mail systems strip it off (I've seen AOL do that) which makes the attachment difficult to open.

  • How do I permanently delete email messages from my Mail inbox?

Ever since I migrated from Mobile Me to iCloud, I can't seem to delete messages from my MacBook Mail inbox.  They just reappear seconds later.  What do I need to do to delete them permanently?  I've tried looking in the settings, preferences, accounts, etc.  I've also made sure to select the "hide deleted messages" from the View tab.  Please help!  I am sure that there is a simple solution.  They are also staying on my iPhone and iPad.

Settings > General > Spotlight Search > Uncheck Messages
It's that or Restore the device as New with iTunes
    Hope that helps

  • No  messages seen in e.mail inbox I pad2?

No messages or photos seen in the e.mail inbox of my I pad2. Only header and title.

Try turning the account off and on : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'
If that doesn't work then try closing the Mail app completely : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Messages located in sub folders do not show in iPad Mail

Using iPad mail with Microsoft Exchange sync works great at the inbox level but any messages that are in sub folders do not show up in Mail on the iPad. All of the sub folders show up but do not show messages. In addition, I am not able to collapse the parent folders, the result is a very long list of empty folders. The exception is emails that I move to the folders on the iPad do show up if the folder is selected on the iPad. Looking for solution.

Has anyone else noticed the following?
I've synchronized with Exchange and am noticing some odd mail behaviour:
    - I have folders in my PC Outlook inbox
    - when I have mail open on my ipad, and a new message comes in, if I happen to be an a subfolder (example a special folder for messages from my boss or whatever) all the new mail goes to that folder instead of the inbox.
    - even weirder, it stays there when I go back to my PC and Outlook.
Not very useful long term since I end up with seriously misfiled mail...

  • IPad mail folders for smtp

I use yahoo smtp. Broadband email service here in Canada by the cable provider monopoly....... Oh I digress
Anyway, is there a way to create folders In iPad mail for smtp mail type providers?
It doesn't appear that yahoo mail or Rogers webmail allow for "top"level folder creation with inbox, sent, deleted. Only sub level folders that of course don't appear to move over to my iPad.
    Is there a solution?
Is there a mobile me solution where all my email account can push to me through and allow me to create folders?
    MacBookPro   Mac OS X (10.5.7)

Yup, you have the cable provider monopolies in the True North, but at least you are provided. If you go south to the States, small communities have very little if any choice since we aren't in "profitable" markets. Oops, I'm digressing, too.
Sure hope you get an answer to this question because I have the same one.

  • IPad Mail not deleting from server

Does anyone else have this problem? I have my mail accounts set so that they should delete emails from the server as soon as they are deleted from ipad. It doesn't seem to work though.. as I just came back home after a trip and all the dozens of email messages came flooding into my Mac inbox
Does anyone have any suggestions? Do I also need to delete the mail on the ipad's mail trash perhaps...

SO SORRY for not responding.... For some reason I have not been getting emails saying there are replies to this topic.
As it happened, I thought I had solved the problem, but I haven't...
In the settings for my email accounts, I am offered the option of my emails being deleted from their server as soon as I delete them from the iPad email inbox. However, when I choose this option, they are not deleted.
DAVID I do not have the setting that you describe available for my email accounts either... It seems that different setting options appear according to the nature of the email account that is being set up.
It is clear to me that the way I have set things up is correct for what I want though, as it's very clearly stated in Settings... It's just not happening....

  • Mail inbox has mail but i can't open the mail box

My mail stopped working on my iMac, works fine on my iPhone iPad and in the iCloud. Now i have the inbox showing i have mail but it won't open,I've tried to use the Rebuild function but its greyed out. The only way i can see my emails is to log into the connection doctor and change a setting , then save and suddenly they appear until i click out to the other mail inbox.
I have noticed my signatures etc are missing so if i try to use one i get the following message

  • Strange number next to Mail Inbox

I cannot seem to remove the number 4294967290 that has started appearing as a label next to my mail Inbox.  I am using Other mail (Eudora) and POP.  I have deleted/re-installed the account several times, re-booted several times but the label keeps re-appearing.  Seems to have started when a friend sent me several very large photo files.  My iPod froze while trying to download but eventually, after a re-boot, all the photos downloaded.  Not sure if this had anything to with this.
My mail works fine just annoying to see this label.  Am curious what this means and if I should do anything about it.
I also have an iPad using same mail account and the Inbox does not have such a number label.
    Any suggestions/help is appreciated.

I should add that this is an iPod Touch.
I also now notice that the number appears to indcate incoming mails.. That is to say that when new mail arrives the number increases by the number of new mails.  It then reverts back after I open the new mails.

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. • IPhone Mail inbox not syncing with Mac inbox

    Greetings
Since upgrading my MBP recently, mail in my iPhone Mail inbox/sent items has not been syncing fully with my Mac Mail inbox/sent items.
Messages which are moved to folders stored On My Mac remain in my iPhone inbox.
Messages which are moved to folders stored in iCloud are removed from my iPhone in inbox and are visible as they should be in the iCloud folders on my iPhone.
I use both an iCloud email account as well as an account through my domain host. I do not use Gmail or an Exchange account, and tis problem dud not occur with my old MBP.
    Any advice most gratefully received.
    Sashina.

    Hi KiltedTIm
Hmmm. I've changed my Mac, iPhone and iPad all from POP to IMAP. On my Mac there are only two items in the inbox in question, but on both mobile devices are every bit of mail from that account (not in filed iCloud folders) going back to 17 April. I've restarted both devices but everything is still in the inbox.
    Any further ideas?
    Thanks!
    Sashina

  • Does marking mail as "junk" in iPad Mail actually do anything?

For a long time now, I have been using the iPad Mail facility to mark spam emails as "junk".
However, I'm not seeing any different behavior.  The same old spam sources are sending me the same old emails which land in my inbox.
After over a year or two of using the Junk marker, I'm thinking it's a placebo.  Am I wrong?

A lot of it depends on your mail provider. Usually they have to block junk mail at the server - however the junkers are rather ingenious. For example they spoof addresses, or make up one, usually gibberish like mworfhwoeihfowafnowanfwoei@ and then send their junk out and abandon the account, so blocking it is really a waste.
YOu may not want to continue marking at the iPad level but access your mail provider via safari, for example, for me I'd use safari to go to yahoo.com and mark it as spam there. Might help with some of it. Then again, junkers have been sending stuff out unimpeeded for years now. Short of abandoning your account there's really no way to stop it all.

  • IPad Mail messages from Apple mail

New ipad getting 10,000 old messages from Apple Mail application (or Comcast server). How do I stop it and get only new messages as of today?

These are emails stored in the Sent folder in Mail, in 2 email accounts. Some are quite old, some recent. In addition, the Mail Inboxes were emptied, leaving only those emails that had been unopened. Those still on the server (I looked at Get Account Info in mail on different Mac to identify which) were downloaded and are in place in the ipad . In short, those lost were emails received and sent, stored locally on the ipad.
When I did the update, it said there was an error so I had to backup and restore, via itunes. I thought emails would be backed up in this proces. I don't use icloud. Thanks
