IPad makes random beeping noise

the New iPad started making a weird beeping noise at random intervals. It started a few weeks after buying it. Its been going on for more than a month now and its frustrating not knowing where it is coming from or why. the sound isn't even one of the options in the settings-->general-->sounds. there are two notes, the first one lower in pitch than second one.
there doesnt seem to be a pattern to it. no dialog box comes up. it can happen when the iPad is being used or when it is asleep (with Smartcover or without Smartcover). I tried looking at the notifications panel and the sounds but there was nothing there. (white iPad with WiFi - no 3G)
Any ideas what it can be?
Thanks!

Did you try to reset the iPad by holding the sleep and home button for about 10min, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data doing a reset.
If this does not work, set it up as new device, explained in this article:

  • Grey screen and makes a beeping noise...

    Hi,
My ipod nano seems to have went on the blink. It jusat comes up with a grey screen and when I try to do the toggle and two buttons at the same time it shuts down but then when it comes back on makes a beeping noise and reverts back to the grey screen.
    Can anyone help please?!?

Sometimes this is a result of a bad USB cable.  Try plugging the iPod in with a different USB sync cable to rule out the possibility of a damaged/faulty USB cable.
Have you tried other USB ports as well?

  • Why does the iPad make the same noise when it connects to a charger that doesn't charge it as one that will charge it???

Why does the iPad make the same noise when it connects to a charger that doesn't charge it as one that will charge it???
I would expect that it would make an unusual noise if plugged into a generic USB charger that does not have enough oomph to charge a pad to alert you - otherwise, you might think the noise is reassuring that you are actually charging it.

I guess my question was actually more of a comment on the (lack of) design!  It is unusual that something like this would still be in an Apple product.  There are wall chargers that have a USB port on them that do not have the required oomph to charge the iPad.  I have one that has two USB ports, one for my iPhone  (it won't charge an iPad), and one for an iPad with greater amperage rating.  I accidentally used the wrong ones for a while yesterday, but noticed before being "surprised" the next morning by an uncharged iPad.  The iPad is smart enough to say "Not charging" by the battery icon when it is plugges in to one of these, so it "knows" - seems like it would be fairly simply to have the iPad make a different or additional noise  wehn it puts up the "Not charging" text icon.  Failsafe user experience?

  • My macbook pro makes erratic beeping noises

My macbook pro makes a distinctive, 3 note beeping noise. It repeats at uneven intervals. I went to Console App and saw the following messages repeated at the exact times these beeps happened, so I imagine they are related. I just don't know what these messages mean, nor how to fix them. Can anyone help?

  • My MacBook pro I got last week makes random clicking noises..

I recently got a MacBook Pro for my 18th birthday present. I turned it on and it started making random clicking noises. It doesn't do it consistently but very randomly and at weird times. Nothing in particular triggers the noise but I'm not quite sure what to do. Help?

It sounds as if your heads are bumping up against the platters. You shouldn't be hearing it and it may be an indication of drive failure. If you haven't already done so, get an external hard drive and make backups of your hard drive using Time Machine or your backup method of choice. Then take it into your local Apple Store and have them run diagnostics. Don't attempt to use Disk Utility or any other utility to repair it.
    Good luck,

  • IPad makes a whooshing noise?

My iPad 2 makes a whooshing noise every 15 minutes. It only works when I am connected to my WiFi, but it is very annoying and even makes this noise when the iPad is locked.

The fact that it only makes this sound when connected to WiFi suggests that you have an alert sound set for when it receives or sends some sort of notification. e.g. mine makes a swooshing sound when mail gets sent. Check under settings somewhere and you might figure out what's going on.

  • My iMac recently started making random beeping noises. They are all different pitches and lengths. Nothing like a notification. Also does it with the sound muted. I've deleted Skype (several people recommended that) and restarted & shutdown. Please help!

This has been going on for a few months and seems to be getting worse. At times it will be frequent, other times only a few random beeps an hour. Seems to be worse when something is loading or "thinking". I have a video of the beeping sounds I will upload when I get home as it won't let me do it here at work. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, it is driving me crazy! I'm also worried it will crash on me.

    Beeps on startup:
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images.
5 beeps = processor is not usable

  • Why does my mac randomly make a beeping noise

My mac randomly goes thunk, thunk, for no apparent reason. What's up with that?

The mid 2011 MacBook Air fans are pretty quiet but not silent and since they are the only mechanical decice you'll hear - there's no hard drive or DVD drive to make noise - it is possible that what you hear is normal. On the other hand, fans can go bad - bearings fail and dust an make the blades become unbalanced. None of us can help - you'll need to take the computer to a repair center or Apple Store and let an Apple repair person determine if the fans need replacing or not. If so, your warranty will cover the cost.

  • MacBook makes random beeps

I have a one year old MacBook running OS 10.5.7, and have been having this problem for most of the time I've owned it. Seemingly at random, the Mac will make a synth-type double-tone sound. The sound comes from the speakers (or headphones when attached), not directly from the hardware (it is definitely not the hard drive beeping sound). It can happen 3 or 4 times in a minute, or go as long as maybe 5 minutes without happening. I have not been able to correlate any other action with the sound. I don't even have to be actively using the computer for the sound to occur.
    Here's what I have tried:
    * Quit all applications except the Finder and the noise still occurs.
    * Turn the system Alert volume to zero and the noise still occurs (by the way, the noise that occurs is not the same as ANY of the available alerts in the sound preference pane)
I have the following applications installed: MS Office, HandBrake, WoW and WriteRoom (plus all the stock Apple apps of course).
I have the following items installed in Preferences: Flip4Mac, GamePad Companion, MacFUSE, MediaLink and Perian. I haven't tried removing these yet, but that's probably my next step.
Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks.

Argh, I'm having the same problem!

  • I've put my phone on silent and when it rings it's silent and doesn't vibrate which is what I want, but when I get a text it makes a beep noise but I want this to be silent too. How can I make it silent? Is there a way to do it without using the DND?

I want my phone to be completely silent. If I flick it on to wilent it doesn't vobrate when it rings which is great and it doesn't vibrate when a message comes through. However, it does beep when a text comes through which I don't want, plus I don't know why it beeps as that isn't my normal text tone anyway. But I just want it to be silent.  I'm not too keen to use the DND function if I dont have too.

Options for when an iOS device gets locked because of forgotten passcode:
Restore (and reset passcode) on your device by connecting it to the last computer to which it was connected:
iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring iOS software - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you cannot connect it to the computer to which the device was last connected (or the device was never connected to a computer) you will have to use recovery mode to completely reset the device, losing all data:
iOS: Unable to update or restore - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 - recovery mode (e.g., cannot connect to computer last used to sync device, iTunes still asks for a password)
