IPad Messing up Router?

I heard a long time ago that the original iPad was banned from some college campuses because it somehow messed with the wifi. Now that someone is in our house with an iPad, the router has been crashing frequently, and nobody can get on the internet during those times.
Is this possible? Is it possible, but Apple fixed it with an iOS update? Is this impossible? Thanks for any info. I can't find the old article because searching "ipad messes up router" gives me articles on how to use the iPad.

I found a complaint about the Apple TV doing this on Discussions, and I also found this on Yahoo! Answers:
The thing is, the rest of the answers were idiotic like "your not getting enough internet from your company" and "get the xoom powered by droid", so I don't know if these people really have a problem, or they spilled milk on their router.
Why is my iPad 2 messing up my wifi so bad?
Practically whenever we turn it on, it always messes up the wifi so bad that we have to turn off everything that uses wifi and disconnect and reconnect. Does this happen to anyone else? Is there a way to solve this?

Answerer 1YES! this happened to me with my iPad. It would disconnect and screw with our wifi. go to the apple store and tell them this, the will give you a new one and now mine works(:

    Despite the WiFi sign you may not really be connected to your WiFi network.
    Your router may not have given your iPad a valid IP address when the iPad requested it. To check on this go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address shown starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
    Sometimes the fix for this can be as simple as restarting your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPad (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages. There have been several firmware updates to the Netgear WNR 2000 router. You can get the latest firmware here:

    If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router version, the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), MAC filtering enabled, etc.
    Also test your iPad on some other networks. If it has problems connecting there it might have a hardware problem.

    Try to forget networks on your iPad and reconnect. Try also to check if Mac Address Filtering has not been enabled on your router. You can check all these by accessing the setup page of your router through 192.168.1.1.

  • Ipad crashes Belkin router

    I have had my ipad for over a year with no problems. In the last week my Belkin wireless router has been crashing regularly (every few minutes). Initially I thought the router was faulty but I have singled out the ipad as the problem, as I also have a laptop, desktop and iphone sharing the Belkin.
    I have OS 4.3.1, could this update be the problem? I am reluctant to change any settings on the router as I use it for Sky, and the hassle I went through to get that working as they lock you to their own...
    Anyone had a similar issue after the new OS? Can I go back a release?

    Thanks for your message, but I have used this ipad with this router for well over a year, with never a single problem and only changes in Ipad OS. Only this week has it started crashing, which doesn't make much sense to me.
    I have also checked with Belkin and there are no firmware updates.
    I'm trying to get the latest OS 4.3.3, but that consistantly fails telling me the server has timed out. I have made sure that nothing else is using the network, so am baffled (and irritated) by this as well.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

    I live in the Marshall islands where my iPad has access to high speed internet but my MacBook Pro does not (don't ask why, it is the third world), is there a way or an app that can allow my iPad to function as a router for my MacBook Pro?

We have one state/government owned (85% of the shares) telecom service provider here that, when it was set up 20 years go also sold 15% of the shares to private individuals. So while this state owned provider enjoys a total monopoly on providing any form of telecommunication services at the same time they have a huge motive to make as much profit as they can.     Earlier this year they connected a fiber optic cable from Guam to the rest of Micronesia including the Marshall Islands. Now you can get dialup for $39.99 a month unlimited use (before it was $1.80 an hour) and the "higher speed" 256k is now only $129 a month + 1 cent a minute. So you can see, even at these prices, we are still in internet h-e-double toothpick.
    Now, for the complicated iPad/Macbook reverse tethering question/issue. If I took my Macbook Pro to one of the wireless "hotspots" on island, I could purchase a "Minute Card" for $10 that would give me 100 minutes (10 cents a minute) for high speed wireless internet access. These $10 cards will also work with the iPad. However, they also offer a service here *ONLY for cell phones* where you can buy unlimited wireless high speed access for *$15 a month*. You take in your cell phone, and the telecom company rep programs the phone to receive this service. They decided last week that they are going to treat iPads like cell phones and allow them to be available for this $15 monthly unlimited high speed service. So I have a choice: high speed wireless internet access for my Macbook Pro at 10 cents a minute, or use the iPad at $15 a month for the same speed of service.
    Ok, if you are with me up to here, prepare because here is where it gets REALLY complicated.
    The problem I am having is that for me to download say, the 60 MB upgrade of Safari (5.02) for the Mac, I would like to be able to use my iPad with the high speed internet--as opposed to my dialup on my iMac or the expensive wireless for the Macbook Pro--but when I try to download this to the iPad the Apple Download page keeps shifting me to a web page that says I can't download this to an iPad for later transfer to my iMac (I have tried numerous apps, none of them can do this). It is strange, this only happens on the Apple site with the iTunes and Safari updates, all other downloads I can do with numerous apps such as GoodReader, etc. I even tried using the Atomic Browser app at the "Desktop Safari" setting to trick the Apple web site, but to no avail. So that is why I want to tether my Macbook Pro to my iPad, so I can download this stuff to the Macbook Pro because my iPad won't let me.
    Anyway, while it is a small but annoying problem I loathe giving this telecom authority more of my money than it has already sucked out of my pocket over the years when it comes to internet access.

  • Cannot connect iPad 2 to router

    MY wife has a new iPad 2 and it will not connect to her wireless router at her business. It does recognize the router but when you tap on it to join you get tha error message "failed to join router...". Our iPhones and my iPad 1 connect fine. Her does connect at home and elsewhere. May be a wireless G router. Any suggestions?

  • Messing with routing now eth0 borked

    I have two network interfaces (wlan0 and eth0) well I was messing around with routing issuing command like such "route add -host 255.255.255.255 dev eth0" and now eth0 is completely borked. It is not  a hardware issue because it works completely fine under Windows XP and always has but after i issued that command and messed around with some Network Manager I get this

    is there any way I can just delete all my routes and start over?

    I have done both. So I guess you can assume it is an issue with something else. It is not an issue with hardware as it works in windows and no conflicts with wlan0 as when disabled I still get the Destination Host Unreahcable. Anyone else got any ideas thanks for the input thought Mektub it is greatly appreciated!

    Does anyone have any idea on what in Linux could be causing this issue. It is not a networking address or hardware issue as it works in Windows is there anything short of me starting over from scratch because I am not a huge fan of having inoperable PC

  • Trying to connect IPAD to wireless router

    Help & advise needed. I have been trying to connect to my wireless router. I can see my network in the IPAD and when I try to join and enter my password it give me a message " incorrect password". I have reset my router 2x now and created new user & password ID.

    I am having the same problem. It is very frustrating. My lap top connects to my router just fine and my iPad can connect to other routers with no problem. PLEASE help us!

  • Turning On Airplay Mirroring on iPad 2 crashes router Internet connection

    Using the new Apple TV 2 firmware 4.4 in combination with iPad 2 (iOS 5).
    Apple TV 2 connected to Linksys E4200 router via Ethernet cable. I can stream movies over the network (USB-HDD
    connected to router with router built in UPnP AV server). Samsung Series 6000 Smart TV.
    - AirPlay working great from iPad 2 to Apple TV and everything else iOS 5 is also no issue.
    BUT
    When I turn On Airplay mirroring on the iPad 2 I can see the blue bar on top of the screen
    indicating mirroring is On but only after a few seconds the blue bar disappears and the Internet
    connection is gone for all users on my network.
    I have to go in the router settings and reboot router in order to establish Internet access again..
    I've gone through this 5 or 6 times now and I can single out the mirroring for the router crash.
    Mirroring has not worked once.
    Weird! Anybody?

    It's was a router QOS setting.
    Steps:
    1. Login to your router
    2. Click on Application and Gaming
    3. Click on QOS
    4. Disable WMM Support
    5. Done
    Mirroring working great now on my AppleTV!

    I have bought an ipad air. I get internet connection through institute network at my home through a DSL-2640T DLinik router. However, ipad is unable to connect to this router. First of all, on tapping SETTINGS and WIFI DLink does not always show up.
    When it does show up, it does not connect to it after giving the password. The Dell laptop from which bI am sending this mail is able to connect to the same router using the same password.

    I have tried this but it odes not work. I have also tried switching off and then restarting ipad: General>Reset> Reset Network Settings. But it did not work either.

    My Apple TV2 is connected to my Ethernet wired network, there is a Netgear Modem Router on this network that allows DHCP and WIFI access WPA2 secured.
    The Apple TV can connect to the Mac to share the itune Library over wired ethernet.
    My Ipad connect to the same Netgear throught Wifi and I can access every Mac on the ethernet network with all apps.
    BUT No way to connect iPad Wifi to the wired ethernet connected Apple TV, I mean iPAD wifi to the netgear router to ethernet wire to the Apple TV, exactly what I do for mac's and pc's that are ethernet connected to the netgear Router.
    My iPad can connect to MAC with the same network for screen sharing with decicated Apps.
    If I unplug the apple TV from Ethernet wire and I configure WIFI, my Ipad connect instantly to the apple TV for Airplay or remote.
    Wifi is far too slow for Video display, you have to wait a lot before it start and it jitters, so I need the fester connection of my 1GB ethernet network from Apple TV to MAC, this is working well but then I cannot use ipad airplay...
    every Item is using DHCP from the netgear.
    I hope this is clear enought.
    Did anyone succeded in implementing such a network configuration???
    Does Apple TV neeeeddss direct WIFI for using Aiplay from iPad  (it's the same for iPhone by the way) ??? WHY  (performance, bonjour, marketing lock ??)
    Is there a way (by Jailbreak?) to enable ethernet wiring and Wifi on the Apple TV???

    The netgear router did not work properly with apple TV, I disconnected its WIFI and use it only as a modem for internet cable to ethernet local network, so no wifi.
    I bought a time capsule that I included in my ethernet local network and used its wifi as a bridge for wifi devices (ipad iphones) to local network with internet acces through the modem router.
    Then I connected my apple tv2 to my ethernet local network.
    With this configuration my ipad or iphone can through time capsule wifi access ethernet local network and use apple TV2 to display ipad/iphone screen/video on my TV. superb indeed...

    I have an iPad 2 running iOS6.1 that will not connect to my Asus RT-AC66R router when the router is not connected to the internet.  The message I get on my iPad is "The cable for ethernet is not plugged in".  This also happens with my iPod gen 5.
    I'm trying to control Philips Hue bulbs with their Zigbee bridge connected to the router, but I do not want a connection to the internet.  The Hue app works with an Android phone and an older iPhone 4 running an older iOS version without the router connected to the internet.  The newer iOS6 seems to want to have access to the internet, but having internet access should not be required for this application.
    If I do connect the router to the internet, the Hue app works on my iPad2 and it continues to work for a couple of minutes after I disconnect the internet cable. Then I get the message "The cable for ethernet is not plugged in" again. I'm doing this at work where I'm not supposed to connect the router to the work network cable, else it wouldn't be an issue.
