IPad Mini 3 as iPhone 4 replacement?

Anyone switched from iPhone 4x/5x to iPad Mini as a primary on-the-go device?
1. Please share your experience on:
what scenarios/apps proved better at Mini / in which contexts?
which are tolerable at Mini, though better performed at iPhone?
which are completely impossible at Mini and should be done at iPhone?
My situation is: have iPhone 4 and iPad 2 (non-Retina). Choosing one new device to buy (iPhone 6 vs iPad Mini 3). Currently using iPhone on the go (underground transit; walk; driving nav) plus a featurephone for voice calls. Using iPad 2 only indoors as it's too large to frequently put in/out while on-the-go. For at-my-desk use, happy with Macbook Air (except the system UI font sizes).
Spend most time on iPhone with these apps, most important first: OmniFocus, Whatsapp, (G)Mail, Calendar, Pocket, social networks, (Google)Maps, one-time passwords (SMS and standalone generators).
2. iPhone fonts are way too small, even with maximum font size settings (used a 4.3" smartphone years before). Chances to solve the font size problem with switch to Mini, especially on 3rd-party apps?

Just out of warranty. This is a software issue. everything was ok until the software update. Apple just need to sort it out.

It works nicely over home wifi, but for example, i am sitting in my car, phone is in my pocket and I'm using the iPad, call comes in and i don't want to start digging for my phone.
Is there any way?

well yes, but it basically makes wifi for the other devices, it basically mimics wifi.
as i get from your answer, it is not possible?
it would be common sense to make it work this way also. directly from device to device. no bounce between WiFi router
Then again, common sense is not that common these days...

Personal Hotspot not working between iPad Mini and iPhone 6 Plus

The personal hotspot function between my iPad Mini and iPhone 5C worked perfectly.
I am now using an iPhone 6 Plus with the same iPad Mini and cannot establish a connection at all.
Bluetooth and Wifi are enabled on both devices and the iPad says it has found my phone, displays the signal strength, 4G, battery remaining and 2 linked circles.
When I choose that hotspot it tries to connect then just keeps saying "Remote Hotspot Failure. Unable to start Personal Hotspot. Stuart's iPhone 6Plus"

Obviously, syncing an iOS device with iTunes over USB is still supported in Mavericks. Calendar and contact syncing with iTunes is no longer supported. That has nothing to do with your problem.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

HT4191 My notes disappeared from both my iPad mini and iPhone.

One note from the notes app were deleted from my ipad mini and iphone 4s. I opened up my ipad mini notes app and was looking at the note and all of a sudden it disappeared. I checked other mail accounts and looked on my iphone, but it was also gone from there. My other notes were there but the one i was looking for was gone. I used the search key for it also. Please help!

I suddenly can not get mail on iPad mini or iPhone- says no mail when I actually have mail on my iMac. Also don't seem to be able to send. This has all worked before a few days ago.

Updating Macbook (OS X v10.5.8) to be compatible with iPad Mini and iPhone 5s

I have a MacBook5,1 -Intel Core 2 Duo,2 GHz, running OS X 10.5.8. I want to update my computer to take advantage of the newer features, and also to be compatible with my iPad Mini and iPhone 5s.
Do I first need to upgrade to OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard to then update to OS X Mountain Lion?

You can upgrade direct from 10.6.8 to 10.8 Mountain Lion without going through 10.7 Lion
10.8 Mountain Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.

To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

But the iPhone 5 and the iPad mini should support HD videos.
What I would try is downloading the movies directly to your iPad mini or your iPhone. You will want to do this when connected to Wi-Fi, but you can follow these steps in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519

I have an ipad mini an iMac a MacBook Pro and an iPhone 5. All running the latest operating systems. The ipad mini and iPhone 5 can't see each others open I cloud tabs in safari. Anyone know why? Private browsing is off on the devices. Thanks.

Thanks for the support but I had already tried this . Again did it as you advised. Still not able to connect the ipad mini with Bluetooth.
Could it be that some app is causing issue. I can connect my car and computer over Bluetooth but not ipad mini.
On the other had ipad is connecting to other iPhone but only not mine.
Still showing ipad not supported message. And also shows not paired.

Ipad mini and iphone no longer syncs "last page used" of my ebooks

My ipad mini and iphone recently stopped syncing the page locations for my kindle e-books. Each time i go from one device to the other i find my book on the same page it was when i last used that device and when I tap the sync circle icon it tells me that i am "currently at the furtest location across all your devices." Not! it used to sync them but now it doesn't and I don't know why.

Sounds like the problem is with the phone. Do a hard reset and go from there.

HELP !! My ipad mini and iphone 5 just stopped syncing calendar with outlook 2007 calendar.

All apple devices are at current OS levels and no changes have been made except to calendar entries. I recently added a bunch of new appointments to outlook and then used my ipad to insert an appointment that was sent to me by email from american airlines. I have done a hard boot (held done the off button till dark) on both devices. I have checked my sync settings in itunes - set to sync all calendars. I have tried both iphone 5 and ipad mini using the automatic sync when device is attached and also by hitting the sync button in itunes. I do not use the icloud, but both devices backup to my windows 7 computer. Calendar is my most important app, as I use it to keep my day organized and to make it to appointments. Not being able to sync is a disaster. Need help, can't think of what else to try.

More - Information - Also tried the advanced setting to replace the ipad calendar with the outlook calendar - did not work and ran the Diagnostic test for sync and no errors found - says it works. Extremely frustrated.

IPad mini and iPhone 4s slow home wifi

I have 2 iPad Minis, 2 iPone 4s' and 2 Dell laptops running windows 7. Using Speedtest, I'm averaging .50 down and 1.05 up on the Apple devices. On the laptops I'm averaging 15.0 + down (32'ish at it's peak) and 1.05 up. The apples were operating at a higher speed a few months ago, but as of late are just dragging. I thought the issue was my Netgear N600 router, so I replaced it with a new Airport Extreme. However, speeds on the apple devices have not improved. One thing to note, every once in a while (usually in the early morning) the Apple devices do rival the laptops in speed. Makes no sense. All Apple devices are up to date on operating systems and the Airport Extreme is using all default settings. I would expect some degradation on the handhelds, but everything else on our wifi network (PS3, wifi blue ray, Nest, Kindle) are all working w/o issue. Any ideas why the iPhones and iPads are performing so poorly on the network when using an old Netgear and a new Airport Express? thanks!

Yahoo mail suddenly shows "no mail" in the inbox. Using the Yahoo! SMTP Server on iPad mini w/Retina, iPhone 5S, both with iOS 8. Tried rebooting, deleting and re-installing yahoo. I can still send. Yahoo mail on mac, mobile web, and yahoo downloadable app works. I have resorted to downloading the Yahoo mobile app. Any suggestions on getting the device mail to work again?

I have the same problem. At the bottom of the inbox window, it momentarily says "Downloading 1 of 250" then quickly changes to "Updated Just Now" without displaying any email. All other folders show mail!!! Only the inbox does not display email. I have also tried hard-resetting the iPhone.
