Ipad mini keeps unexpectedly shutting down

New (two months) ipad mini is constantly shutting down and reverting to black screen while in use; is also frequently dropping wi-fi connection.  The problem doesn't seem connected to a specific app or function, and other ipads in the house don't have the same shut down/wi-fi connection problem.  Any tips?

Then there is a bigger glitch. Your only other option seems to be restoring your iPad.

ACtually I really really don't want to use it anymore. I'm so disappointed.

Some friends have told me that their phone can last up to 2 days without charging??
If they are getting 2 days without charging, it's unlikely they use their device very much.
A full day is pretty good....and if I'm careful, I can easily get a full day of usage.
For me, normal is charging the iPhone mid afternoon at work, but I use it a lot.
My typical usage is 35 mins of listening to podcasts, checking email, checking my RSS feed, and checking a few apps while I ride my bike when I first get up.  Then listening to several podcasts at work.
I typically stream music while working out during my lunch hour and use the Men's Health Fitness app to track my progress.
By about 2pm I'm ready to charge the device as it's getting low (somewhere between 20% and 50%).
I leave bluetooth, Wi-FI, and location services turned on all the time.
Personally, I just do not see the point in going into settings to turn on the feature when I need it... just too much hassle.  All of my listening to podcasts and music is via Bluetooth.
I know I'm not the heaviest user, but I just do not see how anyone can realistically make it two days on a single charge, it makes me think they simply do not use the features of the device and would be just as well served with a basic or feature phone.

  • Mac mini keeps displaying shut down message every 10 minutes help?

My mac mini 320 gb machine with the cd drive in it from the 2010 model keeps displaying the shut down message every time minutes and I don't have enough time to check everything and i need some help. Thanks

Here is a link to a system preference you can check.http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4014?viewlocale=en_US
    It is a security feature.
You did not mention it but are you using a movie player other than the provide DVD player or iTunes.  For example VLC.  If you are, for some reason OS X does not know what is going on, i.e. watching a movie, so it thinks you left.  So, after 10mins it trys to log off.  The annoying part is that it will not do a force log off if there are programs running.  Well atleast it is annoying to me.
    Good Luck,
    C.

  • Ipad mini unable to shut down

my ipad mini is unable to shut down, nor can I get a message closed from the home screen

    Try to reset the iPad:
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Note: The data on your device will not be effected by this.

  • My iPad first gen unexpectedly shuts down unexpectedly. Any others having this problem?

While using my iPad it shuts down. Any fixes for this?

Mine does the same thing...I think it is because it isn't support anymore.  They are no longer doing software upgrades and many of the apps are no longer supported as well.
I guess we'll have to buy a new ipad if we want support or the new op sys...

  • My iPad mini keeps shutting down.

Ever since we got a new modem, new router and new ISP, my iPad mini keeps shutting down, and disconnecting from the internet.  When it disconnects, if I go to settings and try to re-connect, it just shuts down. This happens quite often...every ten or fifteen minutes. Our other iPad is fine. Once when we re-booted the router, I was fine for a whole day. I tried that again today, but it didn't help.

    Hey Thifobia,
I see that your iPad is unexpectedly powering off while you are using it. Here is an article for you that addresses this issue and has some troubleshooting suggestions:

    Hello Fogleman1295,
It sounds like you have restored your device from a backup, but it continues to turn off unexpectedly. I would try restoring the device one more time, but this time as new with this article:

  • Mac Mini "unexpectedly shutting down"

Within the last week, my mini (less than two months old) has started suddenly posting a screen (black with grey/white writing), stating that it is has unexpectedly shut down after being on for about 20 minutes. I am instructed to hold down the power button and restart. The problem occurs when I am in different programs and when I looked at the report that was generated it was a kernel error. Any ideas of what the problem is or how to fix it? If the message comes up again (it hasn't the past two times), then I will copy it and post it here.
    TIA-
    Campbell

The problem with diagnosing this issue is that it's neither clear what was wrong with the system when it was repaired, nor what was done to resolve it at the time. While these events may have nothing to do with the present issue, they may be directly related.
As an example - you say that the system was not hot when it recently shut itself down, but had the repair involved removal of the logic board and the thermal pad wasn't replaced (as described as a requirement in the service notes) then it would render the system far more likely to apparently random shutdowns, because heat would build up more quickly and trigger protective mode with little apparent heating. That would also explain why the restart options don't seem to work.
Thus it might be a good idea to ask the repairers exactly what they did to the system when they had it, before contemplating a potential fault in the power unit.

  • Why does my iPad mini keep shutting off every two seconds?

Why does my iPad mini keep shutting off every two seconds?

I doubt that anyone here can answer that question with any validity...
That being said, try to reset the device:
    *Device reset*
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.

  • Why does my ipad mini keep glitching.  We keeps randomly doing stuff on its own while on not even touching it?  I've tried restarting it by holding down lock and home button about a thousand times, it never works.  so could you please help?? thanks(:

why does my ipad mini keep glitching!! /:

Your iPhone doesn't require as much power to charge as your iPad needs so there is a possibility that the charge could have a problem even though you were able to charge the phone. If you can try a different power adapter and still have no luck, then the only thing left - IMO - is to contact Apple support and see what they advise.
BTW  ....   Copied from your first post ...
i then decided to do a reset or restore by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake button down.
I'm not trying to be a nitpicker - but what you described is a hard reset and your post gave no indication that you tried a software restore - which I referenced in my post. That's why I suggested the restore.
Many times restoring the iPad to factory settings can help "revive" the device. If you have tried restoring according to the two support articles that I directed you to and still have no success, you are probably out of luck getting any further help on this site. That's all that you can try at this point at least AFAIK.

  • IPhone 6 unexpectedly shut down and doesn't power back on

So today, Febraury 10th, 2015, my IPhone 6 unexpectedly shut down on me and it will not power back up. I was charging my phone in the car and when I was about to get out, I disconnected the charger from my phone  (which was already on and on 56%) . A few seconds later, it just shut off. I tried holding the power button, nothing happened. I connected back to the charger, nothing happened. I took it back off the charger and waited 20 min and tried to turn it back on , nothing happened. I switched Lightning cords, and still nothing. I have ran out of ideas and am beginning to get frustrated. So two questions: Is this becoming a common problem? and what can I do to fix this?

    Hello acameron10,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that your iPhone shut down on its own and now will not respond or turn on. I know you have already completed some great isolation and troubleshooting steps as well. To continue troubleshooting, I would suggest working through the steps in the attached article, including reseting your device and restoring using recovery mode. Please let me know the outcome of these troubleshooting steps and if the issue continues.

  • Help, my mini REFUSES to shut down/restart

    Hey guys.
I'm looking for some help figuring out what is making my mini hang on shut down.
My icons all dissappear and then I just see the osx backdrop. From there the system refuses to take any keyboard input, though I can move the mouse around. It will just stay there untill I hold the back power button down long enough to force a shutdown. When I reboot it says osx shut down unexpectedly. I try to look at the log by clicking on that option but the log never shows up. My mini is two weeks old and running Tiger.
    Thanks for any help,
    Kal

All the icons dissappear but the normal apple backscreen stays. It never gets to a black screen. No the pinwheel is not spinning. I no longer have any usb devices plugged in. I have a g4 1.42 mac mini. I did not import any data from a previous system.
I have tried to reinstall osx but due to it not being able to restart it will not complete he install. I have left it on the screen for hours to see if anything would happen, but nothing.
I think I may just return it and get another. It just seems too new to be having such a problem. I have put very little software on and it is all mainstream software that should have no problems.
Thanks for the help guys. If there is anything you guys can think of that
I may do please let me know.
    Kal

  • My iPad mini keeps restarting randomly all the time

My iPad mini keeps restarting randomly all the time, I already restored it to manufacturer settings, help! This started about a week ago, and I can't take it to Apple because I got this Christmas 2012. I already reset it all, and it still keeps restarting.

I had the same problem.  I ended up restoring to the factory settings using the method:
    1. connect usb to computer
    2. hold down home button and connect cord to ipad...continue holding down home key until connect to itunes appears on screen, then release
    3. restore to factory settings
I lost all my pictures and data, but the ipad works again. Such a pain! Not happy about this at all!

  • MBP unexpectedly shuts down for no reason- help!

MBP unexpectedly shuts down for no reason.
My MBP has been working fine, until I updated to 10.5. Originally this problem started in Bootcamp running XP, but has now done this once in OS X, just a while ago. There seems to be no difference- even when the psu is plugged in. Just now when it did this again, I pressed the power key and the led on the front blinked really fast, then there was a tone- like it was doing a firmware update (but I did the firmware update months ago!).
I've done a power reset- taking out the battery and holding the power key down for 20 seconds, which seems to have helped, but then again this problem seems to be rather sporadic, and one can never tell when it is going to happen next.
Oh yes, there is a mechanical 'click' that sounds when it does it- like a relay click. Is there a relay power related IC on the motherboard?
Any clues anyone? (I'm sending this exact letter to Apple as well)
    Tom

It's an interesting thread, but I seem to have the problem even when the cord is plugged in. I did have battery problems when I first got this MBP, but they seemed to settle down once I used the computer a bit more. FWIW, I have now got them mostly while using Bootcamp. BC beta 1.3 was really stable and good. It wasn't until I bought Leopard that this problem started. And again, it's only happened 3 or 4 times now.
I'll just have to keep saving. I'm sure Apple will wise up to this sooner or later. (Incidently, I haven't been able to send anything to Apple as I can't find their direct contact addie. Can someone 'remind' me? Thanks!
