IPad mini keyboard orientation stuck portrait

i have an iPad mini retina on the latest IOS update.  No matter what I seem to do the keyboard always sticks in portrait when I'm in landscape.  This seems to only happen to the spotlight keyboard and not in apps like chrome.
Ive restarted, changed setting from forums and no matter what it goes back to it in matter of minutes.  Really driving me nuts.  Any ideas?

Mine iPad Air has just started doing the same. It's only on the "desktop" when searching for apps. In apps the keyboard does rotate
TRied the suggestions in here exept factory reset. Nothing works.
I think it started after I paired a bluetooth Apple keyboard with the iPad.

  • Why does the iPad mini keyboard do erroneous self-correcting keystrokes?

My iPad Mini keyboard replaces regularly two keystrokes. It changes the lower case with upper case on the two punctuation keys (the ", and !" and " and ?" Keys).   I have to correct the inappropriate changes this does to text in emails and other apps as well.  For example, when I introduce a comma "," in a sentence to introduce a clause or series of words, it will change the comma into an exclamation point.  Similarly, when I use three dots to indicate text deleted or ignored, the dots will be changed to three question marks.
This happens when typing in Apple apps and non-Apple apps.  It seems a hardware issue. I never had this with my very first iPad or any of my iPhones. If no one else has reported this going on with their iPad Mini (mine was bought last December so the original model), perhaps it is a defect unique to my iPad Mini.
I have to read over everything typed.  In general there is so much "Apple-determined correction" going on with the Apple keyboard.  This is the most obvious and erroneous.

    reset all settings
    settings-general-reset-reset all settings
    now reconnect to wifi
settings- wifi- click network name- enter password - join
if issue persists back up and restore as new via iTunes
    Peace, Clyde

Placing your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
       1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
       2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
                  * If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
      3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
      4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
      5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
      6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

Doesn't pop up. I have the same problem with iPad mini 1 and iPhone 5s
If you are trying to create a catagory inside a collection, you cannot. Categories are a property (metadata) of the individual titles. You can't create them. You can create collection, but they cannot be nested.

  • Ipad mini (1st. gen)  stuck in headset mode

AFTER UPDATING TO IOS 8 NOW BOTH OF MY MINI IPADS (1ST GEN) ARE STUCK ON HEADSET MODE... HELP!!!!!

I had the exact same problem with my iPhone a few months ago. I was in the middle of an update and it told me to connect to iTunes while it was already connected, but then stayed frozen. I tried restoring, removing the sim card, reinstalling iTunes, using a different computer, everything. Unfortunately you'll probably have to take it to the Apple store like I did. They wiped out my phone and fixed the problem in about 2 seconds, but they did it in the back room so I have no idea what they actually did. Probably worked their Mac Genius magic or something. Sorry :\

  • IPad mini keyboard misplaced in ios8

I'm using an iPad Mini with iOS8.0.  Since updating to 8.0 the keyboard sits about an inch above the bottom of the screen and hides important part of the apps. This seems to be the case in all apps including the Spotlight Search.
I've fooled around with Keyboard in the Settings and nothing helps. I've split the keyboard and put it back to normal. I've rebooted twice.
It may be that the keyboard was OK before I launched the Across Lite app, but I can't swear to that.
Any ideas or suggestions would be most welcome.
    Thanks
    Jim

Try holding the keyboard icon down for a second or two to split keyboard or un-dock keyboard.

  • Photostream on iPad mini keyboard blocks comments section

When commenting on a photo on Photostream or Facebook, the keyboard blocks where you are writing. This means you can't see what you are typing and also makes it difficult to fix any mistakes.
Also, there is no option on this form to submit it as an iPad Mini issue in the product drop down menu.

Don't know why it tagged your reply as helpfull.
First off it's not a task bar, it's a recently used App bar.  Wether an App can run in the background, suspend itself, just hang around in memory or kills itself on exit they still show up in what you refer to as the Task Bar.
This suggestion should have been negated by the line "No, removing App icons/stubs from the resently run Apps bar does not release all memory used by [an] App".
Your second idea was covered in the line "Yes, I have [the same problem] with newly boot[ed] device".
Ok, I left out a few words, but surely if you feel qualified to provide answers you should have been able to infer entened information.
Based on the complete text why would think these basic solutions would have been missed.  Neither of these suggestion are solutions, this would be like call ing your car manufacture with the problem, "I drive my car for about 15 minutes and then it stalls, after I roll to stop and wait about 2 minutes it will restart again"  and thier answers is "Stop driving after 14 minutes, turn your care off, wait 10 seconds and restart your car".

  • Ipad mini keyboard

Does Apple make a keyboard for the iPad mini? I can't find it on the Apple website store.

Apple does not make any Bluetooth keyboards.   You can find good ones at Best Buy or online.
I have a Logitech for my older iPad 2 and my iPad mini.
This is the one I have for my mini.   I have it in purple.  Works great and is very slim and neat.   Has a loop on the front for a stylus pen and enough space so it tucks in to front of cover.

Actually, they do make them. I am using one made by apple right now for my desktop, and it works fine. Though if you want a keyboard case for your iPad Mini, I recommend getting a case with a keyboard attached, because I try using a wireless keyboard with my iPad Mini and it is very easily lost and is a pain in the neck. Though, trust me, there are keyboard cases for the Mini out there!

  • Ipad mini keyboard settings  Y and Z in opposite places.

Just bought an iPad mini 2 and the keyboard has the Y and the Z in opposite places.  Is there a correction for this?

Go into Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards, select the keyboard, and see which layout is selected - it sounds like you currently have QWERTZ selected instead of QWERTY

  • Case for both iPad mini & keyboard?

Does anyone know if there is a case that carries/protects both the iPad mini and a keyboard?

Ahhh, I have not seen anything besides the integrated models offered and most Company offerings for the ultras thin keyboards also offer the integrated keyboard covers, perhaps a search for an ipad sleeve, which may give enough space to store both.

  • Does your ipad mini keyboard block your view in notes?

Notes in iPad mini the keyboard gets in the way so I can't see what I'm typing. Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks Walnutree, this fixed an annoyance I had for months and I had no clue what to do about it.
Fact of the matter remains, I say to iOS developers hoping they read this post, that this is a dorky and unnecessary bug. I think the bug is: 'locked dock keyboard setting is default at iOS8 upgrade' so now you guys don't dare to auto-fix this anymore because you can't tell which people set this deiberately and which people got an unwanted default setting. But you can change the keyboard icon because there is no sign anywhere that my keyboard is in lock mode. Details matter, people.
This leaves the other burning question mark: why on earth would anyone not want to see if the typing went ok?

  • IPad mini keyboard letters not showing up

I'm using my moms iPad mini although not sure which version. After browsing a popular online store for a good while the keyboard bugged out on me. When the onscreen keyboard is docked or undocked, and in merged mode. The entire top row of letters are invisible. I see the keys, (the boxes) but no letters, making it impossible to see what I'm typing. Other than hoping I clicked the right letter. The keys that are invisible are (qwertyuiopasd) the function buttons like backspace and shift are visible. The problem persists device wide. Safari, messages, email. Now I have tried hard resets, regular on off cycles. Changing text size, clearing cookies and safari data. And even changing the keyboard. Also Bluetooth is off, cookies are set to delete upon closing and all that. I'm at a loss here and dislike the split keyboard. How can I fix this?

ALos have the same problem, but have iOS 8.0.2. iPad mini 1st generation 16 GB Keyboard appears in iMessage, but does not in safari, mail, contacts (that's all I checked). Shutting down doesn't work. Any thoughts or workarounds Siri?
