Ipad mini retina - loose volume buttons

I recieved my ipad mini 2 (retina screen) yesterday evening (ordered from apple store)
Very happy with it, however there seems to be an issue with the volume buttonsm the up button feels really loose and rattles when you shake the ipad, the down button seems to be very stiff and doesnt make a sound. The up button seems very springy even with the loosest touch and rocks back and forth if you run your finger over the button, the down button seems solid and doesnt move,
is this just me being fussy or is there an actual problem, if i take it into a store will i get a replacement ?
thanks

Hey Tom:
In Mexico we don't have Apple Store's (they should bring at least 1 Genius Bar somewhere ) so I take it to an "authorized service" store by Apple and achieved nothing but wasted time (+ 1 week and was diagnosed as manufacturing defect but nothing "too serious" or affecting functionality . I have reported them with Apple). I fully understand that if this would have happened in USA things would have been very different and I find this unfair when my iPad is obviously wrong, the button moves and even make some noise. Is not my first Apple product or first iPad, I know there is something wrong.
According to UPS (two days ago) they received in Apple my package and since then I haven't heard a thing .
Today I'll leave the city for a trip and I was really expecting to have the iPad before the weekend but seems that its not going to be like that.
I have never had a problem with Apple (or my family in the past 12 years) and I am very disappointed with the support and attention but more importantly the resolution of my problem has been S-L-O-W and is still not resolved. Since I bought the iPad almost a month now has not been used nicely .
Anyway thanks for your answer, I'm expecting a call from Support but I'm sure I will not have my replacement today and will be another whole week without it.

  • Ipad mini retina low volume

    I just got the mini ipad w/retina. I noticed that the volume is toooooooo low. I barely hear the sound. So disappoint. Can I return it? I have an engrave version though. Or can anyone tell me how to fix it?

    Hi
    Picked up mine a couple of days ago. And it's the same here, the volume must be at MAX to hear anything. I am disappointed. Apple can this be fixed by a softwareupdate?
    I have the mini retina 32gb

  • IPad mini retina speakers/volume

    I just picked up my retina mini a few days ago and have noticed that the speakers/volume act a little glitchy. For example, I'll be listening to music on Spotify or watching a YouTube video, and all of a sudden (and without any prompting by me), the volume will randomly drop down by about 10-15% on its own. More telling is the "sound effects" volume (e.g., the keyboard clicks): increasing the sound effects volume to max will DECREASE the volume of the keyboard clicks. But then decreasing the volume to about mid range will actually INCREASE the volume (decreasing the volume further from mid range will then decrease the volume until mute, as it's supposed to). So basically, the mid range of the volume scale outputs the loudest volume and the min and max ranges will output the softest volume. This can't be normal, right?
    Just wondering if anyone else who got a new retina mini is experiencing any weird speaker/sound issues. As it was just released, I wouldn't be surprised if I got a buggy unit. Or maybe I'm just hearing things.
    And I'll note that having never used a mini (only an iPad and iPad 2), the max volume is surprisingly soft. Comparing the same ring tone on my iPhone 5 and the mini on max volume, the iPhone sounds louder (though the mini does produce a tiny amount of "rumble" for better low end sound, I guess). Again, though, maybe mine's just defective.

    I went to a Grand Central apple store yesterday to do a comparison with their test/display unit and mine. The sound difference is very prominent. I then make a reservation with the genius bar to get it diagnos what seem to be causing the problem. They able to verify the problem, but have no knowledge of what seem to cause it to have low volume. The best they could do is to replace the whole unit for me (I didn't setup in store until I got home) but the new unit still have the same issue with low volume. I now have to make another trip.
    Looks like this may be a widespread issue. I can't believe 2 of my units are having the same problems.

  • Ipad mini loose volume buttons

    I had my ipad mini with retina display for 2 weeks now and my volume buttons are loose. I'm very happy with my ipad but the fact that my volume buttons are loose just bothers and I would hate to go back to apple to complain about such a small issue. Is there a possibility for the loose volume button to break in the future?

    It might. You need to make an appointment at your local apple store, take it in and have them look at it. Before you go in, be sure to back everything up because apple stores don't repair in store, they swap your malfunctioning device for a replacement.

  • IPad mini retina low speaker volume

    I've just bought my iPad mini retina and I have noticed that the speaker volume is very low. I know the speakers are small as of the size of the device but even my iphone 5s with one speaker is louder and was not sure if this was normal or my device not working correctly? I've got until 11th of jan to take back for exchange and would rather get it sorted before that if it is the device causing this issue

    Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
    Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
    If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

  • IPad Mini retina volume

    There has been a lot of talking about the volume on the iPad mini retina being low. But I haven't found any discussion about the "synchronization" of the speakers with the volume popup indicator when you use the device buttons to control it. I will try to describe it. When you use the device buttons to increase the volume from 0% to 100%, you do one of sixteen stops with every keypress, which are showed as squares on the volume popup indicator, right? The volume difference between the stop 14 and 15 is more noticeable. From stop 0 to 14 the volume increases slowly, but at the stop 15 it peaks up.
    Have anyone notice that?

    Just thinking about my problem today and was thinking that before I go near the genius  desk that I have one of their sales team demonstrate a machine to me, I'd assume that the demo models would be pretty fine tuned.

  • IPad mini retina volume - what should I say to genuis?

    About ten days back I received a gift of an iPad Mini Retina (32g) from a person I’ve been helping over this past few years. Completely unnecessary; completely taken by surprise; and completely delighted.
    With the exception of an old iPod it is my only other Apple product, I need some advice and views from you hardened Apple guys.
    Early next week I’m seeing one of Apple’s geniuses for several reasons. The main reason is the issue of volume. Like I’ve read on here and on other forums it seems really quite poor.
    I’ve been watching Will Smith in ‘Seven Pounds’ and well it’s just about listenable. If I were to be watching it where there was background noise then I’d probably give up. Yes it is better with ear phones and I haven’t yet got around to streaming it to my TV. I haven’t watched any action films yet but I’m guessing that if there is a gun fight, if buildings are getting burned and blown up there will be no oomph to the sound and sound really is an important part of these films.
    Other than Netflix and Bookshelf  I’ve put no other apps on the machine and I haven’t transferred any of my music onto it, so with the exception of YouTube, which does seem a little better, I can’t judge what the sound is like there.
    Anyway you Apple guys is this a hardware fault, is it a software fault, or to be honest is it just that you can’t expect much volume, much oomph, from a machine of this size?
    I’m not tech minded, and as mentioned above I’ve only got this and an old iPod so I’ve no other Apple products to judge it against.
    What should I be saying to the guy on the genius counter? What questions should I be asking and what should I expect from him?
    I’ve read that these guys can do quite a lot without having to seek authority from above. If this were just a fault on the 32g machine then, if I could negotiate it, I’d quite happily upgrade to the 64g machine.
    If it makes any difference I live in the UK
    Thanks for any advice you can offer, I’m sure I’ll be back!

  • Headphone volume too loud in Facetime calls - iPad Mini Retina 7.1.1

    Hi,
    I have an iPad Mini Retina Space grey 32GB Wifi version updated to the newest iOS 7.1.1.
    I've noticed that the headphone volume during Facetime calls is always extremely loud even on lowest volume setting and there's no way to lower the volume further down. It's independent of the person I call, and the same problem appears in both in Facetime video and Facetime audio calls.
    The bug only appears in the Facetime app and only after inserting the headphones and (not noticable when using the speaker). Setting a volume limit in Settings doesn't affect this loud volume during Facetime calls. I've tried 3 different headphones and I've also done a full reset of the iPad and setting up a completely new iCloud account.
    I also have an iPad Mini (1st gen) and an iPhone 4 and I don't experience this bug on those devices.
    Have anyone experienced the same bug? Any solution?

    pandora?      once I got used to it, it bacame second nature to simple reach over and toggle the hotspot off and on.  not great if you have the constant need, but if you have the constant need, it wouldnt be shutting down in the first place.
    If this is a big issue for you, and there is no persistant wifi available, you might think about a standalone portable hotspot.  Pretty much every carrier in the US has one they would be happy to sell you, along with a data plan.

    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.

    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
     Cheers, Tom
  • Auto-Brightness on iPad mini Retina is not working properly.
    Hello! Noticed that the Auto-Brightness on iPad mini Retina is not working properly.
    It works correctly only when such a dark place, then unlock the iPad brightness will be at a minimum. Likewise, if unlock iPad in a room with light, the brightness will adjust to the surrounding space.
    If I turn light into a dark room, the brightness slider does not move, and stands on the site. Checked on the iPhone 5S, there problems are not present. Auto Brightness is working correctly.
    P.S. Sorry for my bad english!
    iPad audio output does not work, except for on Siri. The mute button is not on, and the volume buttons have no effect/ don't work (unless Siri is open). I have reset the iPad, tried iOS7 and iOS8 resets, which didn't help.
    iOS 8 isn't even out yet. If you are running iOS 8, I assume you are a developer and if you are, you are in the wrong forum to try to get help. If you are not a developer and you're running iOS 8, maybe that's why you are having problems on the iPad.
    The audio output mostly works when headphones are out in, but has a tendency to cut out from time to time. Without headphones, Audio might start working again briefly from time to time, but most the time it doesn't.  Any ideas on what is wrong with it and how to fix it?
    The type that I made bold doesn't make sense. Is this a typo and you mean that " headphones are not in"?
    I did take it to an Apple Store, but the inncorrectly insisted that my speaker was bust and it would cost £250 to replace the whole iPad!
    And you know they are incorrect because you get sound here and there from time to time? That fact doesn't prove that something isn't working correctly inside. You could very well have a bad connection inside the device causing this, but somehow you seem to know that's not the case.
  • IPad Mini Retina Display Intense Flickering Issue
    Hi all, I've got an iPad Mini Retina 16 Gb iOS 7.1.2, I purchased at end of November 2013. Beginning yesterday, I had two incidents several hours apart where the display would suddenly start flickering like an old black and white TV set. First time it occurred I thought it may be an app issue/incompatibility as I had just downloaded an app from the App store.  I couldn't do anything with the device, so I held the on/off button down to do a hard shut down, I couldn't actually see the swipe bar to shut down but I swiped where it usually is and then shut the thing down. It was fine when I turned back on, so I just chalked it up to a one-time anomaly. About 3-4 hours later the same thing happened completely out of the blue. Did the same thing, intense gray scale flickering like an old b/w TV. Did a hard shut down again then turned back on and it was fine. Well it just happened again today which means the display flicker issue has now happened 3 times in the last 24 hours. I even took a photo of the display flicker with my iPhone so I'd have something to show someone at the Genius Bar.
    Anyone else hear of this issue? If so, anyone know what causes it? I've resigned myself to a Genius Bar appt in the next day or two which hopefully means a quick swap with a replacement device. Input appreciated!
    You can't downgrade the iOS level so forget about that. I doubt that this is due to iOS 8.
    Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
    Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
    Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds).
    No data will be lost.
  • Ipad mini retina display safari crashed with ios 8.0.2
    After updating my daughters iPad Mini retina display, safari crashes as soon as anything is entered in the search box. This started after IOS 8.0.2 update.
    I have rebooted and reset the iPad. I have cleared the history and website data, but nothing has helped.
    Try some basic troubleshooting:
    (A) Try reset iPad
    Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    (B) Try reset all settings
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
    (C) Setup as new (data will be lost if you do not have backup)
    Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings
  • IPad mini Retina touchscreen dead spot
    ok, my iPad mini retina's touchscreen occasionally becomes unresponsive in a small area near the top. hitting the sleep/wake and logging back in always fixes the issue. Anyone know what might be wrong? Maybe in need of a total reset and starting over?
    If it has NEVER been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
    First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
    Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
    If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
    At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
    If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.
  • Ipad mini retina video problem
    I have an ipad mini retina 32 gig, and no videos will play (netflix, youtube, internet browser), but facebook videos will. Pictures will load perfectly but videos will not. On video screens like netflix a picture of the content loads but the video just buffers at a black screen until an error message occurs. I have tries resetting the ipad with the power and home screen buttons, reinstalling the apps, and reconfiguring wifi. This hasn't fixed it. Any suggestions?
    Try this. Reset all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings. You will not lose any data, but you will have to re enter all of the iPad preferred settings that you entered in the settings app.
