IPad Mini Retina Won't Sleep or Wake with Cover

My new iPad Mini Retina worked fine for the first week or so, but now when I open or close the Apple magnetic cover, it doesn't automatically sleep or wake up.
I shut the iPad down and started it up again -- no change.
Is there a setting that got changed? Is something broken?
Thanks for any help.

Never mind, I found the setting. But really, it shouldn't be called "Lock/Unlock" but rather "Wake/Sleep." I don't want it to lock, just sleep!

    I've read posts and tried resetting ipad, bluetooth, peripherals, etc
    any suggestions? again, totally weak on apple's part

    Also, iOS devices will not pair with any other iPhone or iPad as you have found out. They are designed to be paired with bluetooth keyboards, stereos, headsets and, for thethering only, phones and computers.

  • Brand new iPad Mini Retina won't charge when its connected to my PC

    I just opened up my brand new iPad Mini Retina and attempted to plug it into my PC and set it up. The iPad quickly recognizes my PC, briefly displays the charge symbol then immediately displays "not charging." I have attempted to plug the iPad into the wall, and it charges just fine. All the cables I'm using are straight out of the box which I bought right from the Apple Store so I know its not any of those. My laptop is fully charged and also plugged into the wall, so I know its not my computer. I also double checked everything by plugging my iPhone 5 into my computer (with the new iPad lightening cable) and it charges/syncs just fine. Im stumped, please help me fix my brand new iPad Mini Retina.

    I know you said PC, for for others that have an iMac with USB 3 ports, they can put out extra power to charge an iPad.  (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4049?viewlocale=en_US)

  • Photos app on iPad mini (retina) won't import photos

    On a Win 7 (SP1) with all updates I downloaded photos from 2 iPhones (4S) and a Canon point & shoot digital camera. A week ago I purchased the SD card camera adapter for my iPad mini w/retina display. I put the SD from the Canon into the adapter and as expected the Photo app opened and I was able to download 59 photos to the iPad. Today it doesn't seem to work the same way. In the process of troubleshooting this I copied one photo each from the 2 iPhones, the Canon camera and even from the iPad; a total of 4 jpg files. When I insert the SD card into the card reader which is plugged into the iPad the Photos app launches as expected, in the Albums view. But, none of the photos on the SD card are imported. All of these files can be read just fine with Windows Photo Viewer. All of the involved devices are up to current rev.
    Any bright ideas?? Some friends are coming over and my wife has said we WILL be showing photos on the iPad. HEEEELLLLLP ME!
    Thanks,
    Wayne

    As I mentioned ("a total of 4 jpg files") they are jpg files. And, yes of course IOS devices support jpg.

    Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. You may have to do this several times.
    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.

    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
     Cheers, Tom
  • IPAD MINI RETINA SCREEN VERSION IOS 7.1.2 can't success download apps , need to reboot every times only can download apps. Is iOS problem or hardware issue.? Local agent switch sale and tech support can't fix my problem.
    I Purchase iPad mini retina screen on July 7 2014 at Malaysia local apple sale agent switch store somehow now my iPad did restore to latest iOS 7.1.2, before that and after also facing 1new issue is my iPad mini cant success download apps and error message show can't download at this time, either retry or click done. My internet is good condition no line down, I reboot my iPad only can download but sometime can't need to reboot twice only can download. Very sad local sale and tech support can't help to solve my problem...
    Reset the device:
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
    If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
    You will have to re enter your Wi-Fi password.
    No data is lost due to a reset.
  • Ipad mini retina display safari crashed with ios 8.0.2
    After updating my daughters iPad Mini retina display, safari crashes as soon as anything is entered in the search box. This started after IOS 8.0.2 update.
    I have rebooted and reset the iPad. I have cleared the history and website data, but nothing has helped.
    Try some basic troubleshooting:
    (A) Try reset iPad
    Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    (B) Try reset all settings
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
    (C) Setup as new (data will be lost if you do not have backup)
    Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings
  • IPad mini Retina touchscreen dead spot
    ok, my iPad mini retina's touchscreen occasionally becomes unresponsive in a small area near the top. hitting the sleep/wake and logging back in always fixes the issue. Anyone know what might be wrong? Maybe in need of a total reset and starting over?
    If it has NEVER been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
    First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
    Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
    If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
    At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
    If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.
  • I plug my 1 month old iPad mini retina into a uk plug socket using the out of the box charger, it charged from 0-27% in 3 hours and now refuses to charge at all. Any ideas are more than welcome!!!
    I plugged my iPad Mini Retina in to charge this morning in a UK plug socket using the official out of the box charger.
    It charged from 0-27% in roughly 3 hours.
    I have come home to find it is not charging at all, when turned off when I plug the powered cable in it does turn on as if it is receiving power but it does not charge.
    It is 1 month old and hasn't experienced heavy usage as such.
  • IPad Mini Retina Smartcover unlocking / clicking
    Hello folks,
    my iPad mini retina is clicking many times when the smartcover is on (unlocking sound), have anyone the same issue?
    Here's a vid (at the end, my 100 error logs): http://youtu.be/DsNSV4eMusM
    When I put it on a desk and it clicks 2-3 times, although it is not moving. But when it is in the bag, its also clicking (battery draining. yay! )
    Hello FlyFishNevada,
    It sounds like you cannot see the home screen in iTunes when you have the Apps tab selected for your device. I would try first, if you have not already, restarting both the computer and the iPad.
    Restart
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top of your device until the red slider appears. Then drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
    After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
  • IPad mini/retina Hotspot used by iPhone 5 - Problem
    Hello!
    Devices: iPad mini retina wifi+cell iOS 7.1.1 & iPhone 5 iOS 7.1.1
    i want to use the dataconnection of the iPad with my iPhone (most people want it revers, i know)
    Problems to be solved
    WIFI:
    iPhone drops wifi connection after autolock/sleep mode and can't reconnect like in normal wifis cause:
    iPad stops broadcasting the hotspot when in autolock/sleep mode.
    i know iPhone wouldn drop the conn. if i deactivate mobilenetwork, but i need it too when i'm not in reach of the iPad - so this is no option
    And to keep one or both devices unlocked and active, isn't an option as well...
    BT:
    Since i read, that BT connections won't be dropped i tried to connect by BT to the hotspot, but this only works from iPhone to iPad (iPhone = Hotspot, iPad = Sink) but if i try it the other way, i get the message the conn. cant be established.
    I also tried a VPN to keep the wifi alive in lockscreen, but it won't work above iOS 6 as far i see.
    please tell me, that there is any option, app or magical voodoo to solve this problem. i had an galaxy tab befor as hotspot and it worked well... :-( i don't want to go back to samsung!
    The best solution would be, if the hotspot broadcast would stay active the whole time...
    Thank a lot and i hope someone can help me
    Alex
    pandora?      once I got used to it, it bacame second nature to simple reach over and toggle the hotspot off and on.  not great if you have the constant need, but if you have the constant need, it wouldnt be shutting down in the first place.
    If this is a big issue for you, and there is no persistant wifi available, you might think about a standalone portable hotspot.  Pretty much every carrier in the US has one they would be happy to sell you, along with a data plan.
    (look on e bay for a used one )
  • I purchased an iPad mini on October 10th.  I want to return it and get the new ipad mini retina when it comes out.  How do I do that if the new ipad mini release date isn't until "later in November", which is beyond the 14 days from my purchase date?
    I purchased an iPad mini on October 10th.  I want to return it and get the new ipad mini retina when it comes out. I am currently still within the 14 day return/exchange window but how can I exchange it if the new ipad mini release date isn't until "later in November", which would be beyond the 14 days from my purchase date?  If apple announces a new version of a product you just purchased but won't actually release it for more than 14 days, how can you possibly exchange the one you just bought?  Is my only option to return the one I bought on the 10th (so return by 10/24) and then not have an iPad until the new one is available for purchase?  Or would it make any sense to return the one I bought, get a new one, which would presumably have another 14 day return window, and then exchange THAT one for the new ipad mini w/ retina when it comes out (hopefully within that second 14 day window)?
    Call the apple store you got it from and ask them. Sometimes in the past they've extended the 'no questions asked return' but only Apple can tell you for sure.
