IPad Mini slower charging with iOS7

Charging from non mains supplies like solar panels and car chargers has been reduced below 1 amp.
Why Apple?

Mine acts the same way.  I found an old, ratty, beat-up cable (USB on one end, iPad 3 connector on the other) that is an official Apple cable (my little white transformer plug unit is also official Apple 10 watt), and tried it, and it works.
Have you tried scrounging up an official Apple cable?
I also have an iPhone 5 (not 'S' or 'C', just the humble, original 5) and I have not had this same problem.  My after-market chargers work fine on it.
It's apparently something about the iPad 3 hardware that causes this, or perhaps something in the iOS7 code behaves differently on the newer devices.

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • IPad 3 slow charging with 10W charger?

Got my new iPad yeserday.   Compared with my iPad 1 the charging via the 10W charger is really slow.   Went to bed with power at 20%, and over 6 hours it only reached 85% charge.    Normal?   Others seeing the same thing?   I suppose the battery capacity increase would be expected to require a longer charge...but really this slow?

    Dear David,
Was your iPad sleeping while it was on the charger or was it active?
I ran some power tests yesterday. It's important to remember that not only does the new iPad have a battery that is 70% or so larger, it draws substantially more power when running (the reason for the new battery).
Testing with two different Apple AC chargers that I have, it looks like the total charge time for a sleeping iPad should be in the 5-6 hour range  (that's going from  approximately 0 to 100%). But… trying to charge a wakeful iPad takes more than twice as long as that. Most of the wattage being put out by the  charger is going to run the iPad, not to recharging the battery.
You'll see similar effects if you're using the new iPad plugged into a USB port. My iPad2 would hold just about steady plugged into a standard powered USB hub, it would drop maybe 1-2% an hour.  The new iPad drops more than 5% an hour. 5 W just isn't enough to sustain it.
Note that these results for wakeful iPads are going to depend very much on the brightness setting for the screen and the processor load. There's no way I'm going to tear my iPad apart and run proper tests on it, but it wouldn't surprise me if at the extremes power consumption ranges from under 5 W to over 10 W.
Not being willing to dig into my precious toy, I have no idea if the internal circuitry can stand much more than 10 W of charging power. If it can, I wouldn't be surprised to see a  “fast”  15-20 W charger  become available. There are some users who will be vexed by the substantially longer charging time. With the older iPads, you could pop it on the charger over breakfast or lunch and get enough juice to run for the next half day or over dinner to carry you through the evening. That's not going to be the case with the new iPad.
Absent such a “fix” we're just going to have to make some mental adjustments and consider this the price we're paying for a whole slew of major improvements.

  • IPAD MINI SLOW CHARGE

IPAD MINI 16 GB IOS 7
Device will not charge but about 2 percent a hour. Charging indicator does not show it is charging. Worked fine till about 3 weeks ago. Have swapped cables and chargers tried resets but no changes.  Clueless has to issue. Never seen this before with any other ipads or Iphones.
Appreciate any suggestions or things I may have missed trying.

How are you trying to charge it? Plugged into the computer or plugged into the wall?

updated ipad mini last night with the ios 7.6 and now am unable to restart the pad, we have tried charging it completely and have had no luck in restarting it

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without be charged again.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

  • IPad mini not charging. Please help. :-/

    Hey there,
I just purchased an iPad mini and I plugged it into my windows laptop (Toshiba) for the first time. I was able to sync it up with my iTunes and everything without a problem. But then I noticed that on my actual iPad mini where it shows the energy level on the upper right hand side, it says "Not Charging." And this is while my iPad IS plugged into my laptop. So it should be charged. Is there something in the settings or in iTunes that I have to do in order to get my iPad mini to charge right? Thanks for any help you can give me. I appreciate it.
    ---JohnnyCloud81

Thanks for the tip deggie. I tried that. I don't think that's the issue. I have an iPhone 5 that uses the same USB port on my laptop and my iPhone 5 charges from there normally without a problem. I also should mention that I tried charging my iPad mini using the A/C adaptor and it was charging fine. So I'm not sure why my iPad mini is refusing to charge off my laptop. So confusing....

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon. The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight.  Do NOT use an iPod charger.  Do NOT use a computer's USB port.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the exact procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know whether or not a problem exists.
    According to Apple:
    Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

Ipad mini is stuck with the message 'this ipad hasn't been backed up in 5 weeks....' if you click the OK button nothing happens, cannot get rid of the message and cannot even power off b/c the message is on the screen.
The ipad had not been backed up b/c it kept saying not enough storage available

A reset may help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 15-20 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.
No content is affected by this procedure.

  • Ipad 4 not charging with the ORIGINAL Power adapter that came in the box. Can't charge my iPad. I plugged in on PC all night and has been charged to 7%

Yesterday, as usual was going to charge my iPad, it was at 1%. Well, I took my ipad charger (original Apple official, I want to clarify that as a first step, I'm using the brand products than Apple) and plugged into an outlet ... The ipad began loading the first two minutes , then I got a notification telling me that the iPad could not charge with the charger.
I was quite surprised by the announcement. I disconnected and reconnected it .... again, I received the same notification. Then I disconnected and tried it on another outlet ... anything, yet. then I tried it on another outlet and ipad started charging. but after a while I had the same notice, not paying attention to that. I left it charging and I removed roughly 25% that of fear for something to happen. also remembered that situation (made 2-3 months ago where the iPad was not charging but after waiting a while disconnected, reconnected it and loaded normally).
so I decided to wait to re-connect the iPad to the outlet. This time, I plugged it into the outlet (fully discharged) at night and expected to find it loaded in the morning. But my surprise is that it still is off, it did not load anything.
I Bought the iPad in December 2012. Do you think that my iPad is hurt?
What can I do? Ay recommendation?
    Please, HELP ME!

Try giving your iPad a reset. Hold down the sleep and home keys until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and try again.  You may also want to swap out the cable, just to confirm or rule out that it's bad.
If none of those fixes work, make the appointment at your apple store and have them check it out.

Have you tried a soft-reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

i have an 08 apple desktop and my ipad mini wont connect with my itunes and i cant find updates to fix this what do i do?

From Apple's website and printed on the box the mini came in:
Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:
Mac: OS X v10.6.8 or later
PC: Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later
    Download iTunes at www.itunes.com/download
You will have to update to at least OS X 10.6.8 or later, otherwise known as snow leopard.

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
If that doesn't work Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.
