IPad mini stuck on "plug in itunes" screen after ios7 update

I planned on updating to ios7 through wifi, but now it's asking me to plug into itunes (black screen with itunes icon and plug pointing towards it).
I can't plug into itunes because I'm on an laptop with 10.5.8 on it (so itunes hasn't been updated in a while).
So...what can I do here to get past this screen?  I didn't think I would have to plug it in to itunes if downloading through wifi.
My iphone 4s updated without any issues through wifi.  Any help here (besided telling me to upgrade my laptop/itunes for the moment) would be
very much appreciated.
Thanks

The iPad has gone into recovery mode, so you will need to connect it to a computer's iTunes (iTunes 11.1), and on a Mac you will need OS X 10.6.8+ - there isn't another way.

  • IPad 3 stuck in "Connect to iTunes" screen after attempting to update to iOS6.0

Tried to update to iOS 6.0, and the iPad 3 is stuck on the "Connect to iTunes" screen.  After plugging it back in and connecting it, iTunes recognizes it, and sees it in Recovery mode. Nothing has worked so far.  I've tried:
    1. connecting to another MacMini and trying to restore (same (-1) error)
    2. Deleted the iPad software update from the library and tried to download and restore again. (same (-1) error)
    3. one hour on the phone with applecare tech support. multiple things tried: holding the sleep/wake and home buttons ect...  (same (-1) error)
Has anyone else seen this? I noticed someone else asked the same question, and someone offered a blank link.
    I'll try anything.
    Thanks guys

    Yes, thank you though.
I've done that roughly 30 times over the last 8 hours.  That was one of the methods I tried with AppleCare Tech support.
The biggest issue I'm seeing is that the device can't BE turned off.  Holding the slep wake button does nothing.  The "Connect to iTunes" screen (usb to iTunes logo) seems to be stuck on the screen, unless it's going through the restore process.
When I go through the restore steps via iTunes, it gets all the way to the "Installing Firmware" portion, (roughly about 75% done according to the ipad screen, and thats when the error message pops up again.
I even just tried doing the whole thing from a PC and got the same message.
    ...I touched a PC...
    ...Must sterilize hands...
    thanks for the reply though.
Hopefully, I can figure something out, or I might have to make a two hour drive to an apple store to get a replacement.

i have a iphone 3gs 8gb that was jb and unlocked by the previous now the phone froze and its stuck and i tried the hard reset and now its stuck on the connect to itunes screen how can i fix it?

    Manny,
You will need to get help for your problem on another forum.  By jailbreaking your phone, you've voided your warranty and eliminated the ability to get help from Apple or from any of Apple's forums, including this one.
Terms of Use of this forum prohibit the discussion of jailbroken phones.  You will need to search elsewhere for assistance; know that there is a strong liklihood that you will never get your phone working again.  Hope the jb was worth it.
    Good luck.

I installed itunes on my new computer.  When I plugged in my iphone to sync, itunes identified my phone and offered an OS update.  I followed the steps to update and began the process, shortly after there was an error message and now I my phone is paralyzed with the "plug into itunes image".  I tried re-plugging the phone into itunes but it will no longer show up.  Any ideas?

  • IPad 2 stuck on RESTORE (not recovery) mode after iOS7 update

My update to iOS7 seemed to go OK, now I got to "Restore from backup/iTunes" and here's where things turned sour.  I actually SAW glimpses of iOS7 on the iPad and went through the Hello screen and WiFi setup etc.
It's now stuck on the black screen with white Apple in the middle and little white line progress bar under it - but that progress bar has only made it about 1/8 of the way to the end and seems completely froozen.  It's not a 500TB iPad - this should only take a few minutes at most.  something is wrong.
The only USB items I have connected are my keyboard and iPad 2 - nothing else.  And they are direct into the Mac.
So yea, updating to iOS7 bricked my iPad.

It took multiple attempts but this finally just resolved itself.  go figure.

  • IPad stuck on "Connect to iTunes" screen after iOS 8.0.2 Update

Attempted to update to iOS 8.0.2 last night on my 4th Gen iPad. After verifying the download, the iPad instructed me to "Connect to iTunes". Once connected, iTunes stated that my iPad was in need of a restore, which I attempted to do so. Upon "extracting software" iTunes states that it cannot recognize my device and fails the restore. My iPad is still stuck on "Connect to iTunes" screen.
    So far I've:
Attempted restore on iTunes 3 times
Attempted hard restart (reboot) by holding home button and top button down for ten seconds.

    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.

I'm using windows 8.1. My iTunes can successfully sync and detect my ipad air but after updating my ipod touch 4th gen this afternoon, it is stuck at the "Plug into iTunes" screen you have when you first get such a device. When I plug it into my computer, the "USB Plug-in" sound is heard and the Apple Mobile Device Driver detects it in Device manager, but the Ipod does not appear in My Computer or iTunes and remains stuck on the "Plug into to iTunes" screen

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

  • Stuck on -Plug into iTunes- Screen

Hello fellow iPhone users, I need help.
When I tried to update the phone (5c), it got stuck on the -plug into iTunes- screen. The iTunes also stopped recognizing the phone.
    I have tried:
    1. turning it off
    2. putting it on DFU mode
    3. putting it on recovery mode
    4. reconnecting iPhone to iTunes with different USB ports/cables.
After doing all of these things, iPhone is still unrecognized on the iTunes (yes it is updated), and the phone remains on the same screen. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

  • IPhone is stuck on plug into iTunes screen

I plugged in my phone to iTunes last night so that I could update it over night, but when I got up this morning it was on the plug into itunes screen. My phone has been stuck of the plug iTunes screen for a couple hours now. I tried turning it off and back on again, but every time i do that it returns back to the "plug into itunes" screen. I have tried plugging it into iTunes atleast 10 times, and nothing happens on itunes. It doesn't show that there is a device being connected. I don't want to lose all my data because I haven't backed it up yet... If any has any way of fixing this please let me know, I really need it to work. Thanks.

OK so I went to the Apple store and he managed to restart my iPhone by putting it into "recovery mode". I just Googled how to do this as I wasn't there when he did it..
Disconnect the USB cable from your iPhone, but leave the other side connected to your Mac or PC
    Launch iTunes
Press and hold down the Home and Sleep/Power button on the top of the iPhone to turn off the iPhone
Press and continue to hold the Home Button while you reconnect the USB cable to your iPhone, this will cause the iPhone to turn on
Continue to hold the Home button until an alert message in iTunes informing you that an iPhone in recovery mode has been detected, like the screenshot below:
Your iPhone is now in recovery mode. If you have not launched iTunes, you will see the familiar screen of the USB cable pointing at the iTunes logo signaling to connect the iPhone to iTunes to start recovery.
Once you’re in recovery mode, you can either restore the iPhone or adjust the firmware as necessary.
After restoring or upgrading firmware, your iPhone will automatically reboot and exit recovery mode on it’s own.
It seems you will also need a wifi connection to complete the recovery mode.
TIP: If you have backed up your iPhone, click the "restore from iTunes back up" (last option) so when you plug it back in, it will restore from your back up instead of restoreing it to the original factory setttings.
NOTE: The above was really hard for me to get working so good luck! I tried a number of times and didn't get any message in iTunes but got my iPhone into what i assume is the "recovery mode". I'm still trying to get access a wi-fi connection to see if this will work but I will post another update once I can give it a go!
Good Luck! And let me know if anyone successful!

  • Phone stuck on connect to itunes screen after update attempt

Hi, hope someone can help me. I connected my iPhone to my computer to transfer my photos from the phone to the PC. I have automatic syncing turned off.
When I connected, I was prompted to update the iTunes version, which I did. It's now version 9. Then I attempted to update the iPhone version. I got a message saying I had to transfer my purchases first, which I did. Then I tried the update again. The update seemed to take awhile, then I got a message saying it failed. There was a "More Information" button which just prompted me to send info to Apple, which I did. Unfortunately I didn't save the info.
At that point all my iPhone info no longer showed in iTunes, and the only active option is Restore. It does say "Your iPhone software is up to date," which would seem to indicate that the update did work...I tried disconnecting and reconnecting my phone. When I do this, I get the message "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes."
I would rather not Restore the phone unless I have no other options, since I have 600 pics, contacts, etc on the phone...Of course not backed up since this is the first time I've tried to transfer data.
So I tried a few things:
    - I disconnected and reconnected the phone several times.
    - I restarted the computer several times.
    - I went to the Apple site and tried the troubleshooting steps for "stuck on connect to itunes screen" (which is what my phone is currently doing).
    - I ran the diagnostic checks in iTunes (output below - I ran this while the phone was plugged in yet it says it's not found).
    - I held down the Home and the Sleep/Wake button until I see the Apple icon.
    - I went to My Computer > Manage and tried to update drivers, but the phone doesn't show in the device manager.
    - I tried a different USB port and there are no other devices connected to the machine.
Nothing worked, my phone is stuck on the connect to iTunes screen and I get the error message every time I plug it in. I haven't tried another computer bc I don't have one and I'm not sure how to create/use another user account on this machine.
I wouldn't mind calling support but my phone doesn't work...Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Your only choice at this point is to restore your iphone. Since it appears from your post that you have never synced to this computer, you of course will not have a backup to restore from. That means your only choice is to restore as a new device & re-sync your itunes content. Unfortunately, all of your contacts, calendars, pics in your camera roll, etc., will be lost. Its not a good idea to use the iphone or any phone for that matter as a storage device, as things like this can & do happen. You should be syncing on a regular basis. The first thing done when you do sync is an iphone backup. You should also transfer pics in your camera roll to a supported application on your computer on a regular basis, much like any digital camera. You can always sync pics back to your phone, but if the only copies are on the phone, you run the risk of losing them.
See if you can force the phone into recovery mode:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, itunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.

  • IPod stuck in "connect to iTunes" screen after updating software

I wanted to update my iPod touch to iOS5 after waiting for a long time. I synced and transferred purchases twice to make sure all my stuff was in my iTunes library, and then updated it. The update went fine but there was an error message saying that it could not restore the iPod. I went to troubleshooting and it said to update to the latest version of iTunes, which I did, involving a restart. When I started up iTunes again, it said it was the most recent version 10.7 and all of my songs, apps, etc. are in the library. The problem is I can't get my iPod to connect to iTunes now. It went into the connect to iTunes screen before I updated the software and it has stayed like that. I tried plugging and unplugging it, switching the USB ports and cables, putting it into recovery mode, but it will not show up on iTunes or on my computer. I also noticed that when I hold down the sleep/wake button for a few seconds, it shuts down immediately instead of having the "slide to power off" screen come up, and then the apple comes back onto the screen and it goes to the "connect to iTunes" screen again. I have tried all of the troubleshooting guides on the website, but it doesn't change the screen. I tried putting it into DFU mode and something came up on the computer saying "installing driver software" and it said DFU mode or something, which usually happens when I plug in my iPod, but after my iPod wouldn't turn on at first, and when it did, the same screen came up again. When I unplug it from the USB cable, it stays on the screen for about a minute before it turns off and the screen goes black. This is the screen it's stuck on
I'm not sure what else to do, all suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much.

You try on another computer to help determine if you have a computer or iTunes problem. If it works on the other computer that indicates a computer problem and more work is required to fix that problem.

Tried to upgrade my iPhone 4 to 5.1 and now it is  stuck in "plug into itunes mode" but will not recover when I plug it in. It is coming up as "unkown error (1)". Is there anything I can do?
Also, is there any way to recover pictures I have not yet backed up? They should be on iTunes, but do not show up when I plug the phone in or otherwise.
Is there any hope in saving this phone or is my best bet contacting Verizon or Apple to overnight me a new one?

    From iPhoneWiki:
Try changing the USB port (the back one of chassis is better) and restart computer.
The installed version of iTunes may also be too old. Update iTunes.
Also put your iPhone in DFU mode when doing the above and restore. It's a software error.
