IPad needs multi user support NOW

I believe Apple will sell more iPad if they enable multi user support for these devices.
Since it's currently a single user device tied to your iTune and MobileMe/Exchange, it's not something you could share between family. I thought buying an extra iPad for the wife would solve the problem, but I was wrong. Now we have two iPads, it's still not working out very well. We'd leave them in different places of the house, and we'd still grab the nearest iPad regardless who it belongs to.
Had Apple made the iPad multi user, I would more likely to buy one or two more. One for the kitchen, one for the living room, one for the family room and one for the master bathroom. That would make life so much easier as I don't have to take my iPad with me. I could pick one up wherever I am.
Now without multi user support, I'd have to buy a total of 8 iPads and my house would look ridicules with two ipads in each room. Suppose if I have a few teenage kids in the house, I'd have to buy 16 or 20 iPads. That's just mad!
So instead, I wait. For now I'll just have to cope with 2 iPads, one of which configured for the wife. 50% of the time, I use an iPad with my wife's emails, music and books on it.

Tell Apple - http://apple.com/feedback. We're just users like you.
It seems so far that Apple has had absolutely no problem selling iPads at this point.

• Want multi user support for xperia c3

Eventhough its one of the main highlights of lolipop Sony ignore that feature with ease. Please provide that feature . .please sony

I believe that Sony should know about the camera problems. That is why the rolling process is only for India and Taiwan until now. I also want to have multi user support. However, I don't think it can be achieved due to the 1G ram limitation! Xperifirm and flashtool are good for the user becuase I can roll back to kitkat anytime when I get problem. However, someone may not know how to use it. It makes them feel frustrated! I just hope Sony can fix the camera bugs ASAP. For me, the main function of a smart phone is to take photo, phone call, whatsapp and browse the webpage. Please make sure user can be happy with this BASIC function! Lollipop or Kitkat?? I don't care. Anyways, thanks for the update. I know it take time. Thank you again!!

• Multi-User Support

I have all of my photos saved on a file server in my house.  I am using Photoshop Elements 11 on my desktop to catalog all of my photos. I am doing things like tagging photos and the people recogonition features.
If I install Photoshop Elements on my wife's laptop and she accesses the same photos on the file share, will she see the tags?

I don't think there is software that both has face recgnition and multi-user support. Normally, multi-user support is available in upper-end packages, while face recognition is usually available in consumer packages.
If you want true multi-user support, one such product is called Daminion.
I wonder if Adobe will catch on to this feature reqeust.
I'm sure they know there are people who want multi-user libraries. In my opinion, they choose not to add this feature because the cost to develop this feature would blow up the cost of Photoshop Elements to the point where people wouldn't buy it. Which is probably the same reason multi-user libraries are not available in Lightroom either.

• Android Multi User support

Hi,
I have recently purchased a Galaxy Note Pro to use as a family device and have set it up with a number of users.  I have successfully installed Skype on the primary account but unfortunately the notification of a call only occurs if logged into that account.  I therefore though that if I installed Skype on each users profile with the same login details that this would be a workaround to the problem but unfortunately the skype installations on anything other than the primary account will not load.
I have seen an archived post from around 1 year ago suggesting that this was being looked at, does anyone have this sort of set up working?
Thanks in advance.
Jon.

Today is year 2004 Oct. I can run JDeveloper 10g in Linux 2.4.21-4.EL. It can be accessed by multiple users and projects are saved in individual's home.
Is there a proposal of how to setup user ownership for JDeveloper in multi user scenario, i.e. in university where 1 JDeveloper is shared by all students? For example Oracle product is owned by "oracle" in "oracle" group.
Because I have a test case where I "chown nobody:nobody" to JDevelper folder, I cannot download extension and I know it is read/write access problem.

• Emailing report through CMS (ScheduleToSMTP) - Need Multi-format support

Hi All,
I have implemented the ScheduleToSMTP method for sending my crystal report as an email attachment to the users. This has been done as described in the below link(s):
http://devlibrary.businessobjects.com/businessobjectsxi/en/en/BOE_SDK/boesdk_dotNet_doc/doc/boesdk_net_doc/html/NETHowTos92.html
http://devlibrary.businessobjects.com/businessobjectsxi/en/en/BOE_SDK/boesdk_dotNet_doc/doc/boesdk_net_doc/html/NETHowTos95.html
Now, I would like to know if it is possible to have the report attached in two formats (PDF and Excel) in a single email while emailing it by the above method.
Also, I would like to understand if I can add any additional attachments (an image maybe) to this email that goes out through the CMS.
I am new to the Crystal SDK and will appreciate if the response is a little descriptive.
Thanks in advance for the help!
Regards
Ankit

I'm not sure if the below approach will work for you, but in a nut shell, you'd export the report to disk, then  mail the exported report as an attachment. I have done this with a single attachment when I was fooling around with this couple of years ago, not sure if it will work with multiple attachments... Some think to keep in mind too; the reports can get quite large. A report larger then 5 megs is nothing out of the ordinary, so emailing the rpt may be an issue from that perspective. Anyhow, here is the code to attach a file to email:
Visual Basic Example (C## is also provided below)
'Add the following namespaces
Imports CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine
Imports CrystalDecisions.Shared
Imports System.IO
' Code for exporting the report to PDF and
' attaching the exported file to an email.
Dim crExportOptions As ExportOptions
Dim crDiskFileDestinationOptions As
DiskFileDestinationOptions
Dim ExportPath As String
' Create an instance of the Report
Dim oRpt As New NameOfYourReport()
' Or open a report file
Dim oRpt1 As New ReportDocument()
oRpt1.Load(Request.PhysicalApplicationPath +
"\YourReport.rpt";,
OpenReportMethod.OpenReportByTempCopy)
' Create the directory path if it does not already
' exist
ExportPath = Request.PhysicalApplicationPath +
"Exported\"
If Directory.Exists(ExportPath) = False Then
Directory.CreateDirectory(Request.PhysicalApplicatio
nPath + "Exported\")
End If
Dim fname As String
fname = ExportPath + "Portabledoc.pdf";
' Set the path for the exported report
crDiskFileDestinationOptions = New
DiskFileDestinationOptions()
crDiskFileDestinationOptions.DiskFileName = fname
' Set the options to export the report to PDF format
crExportOptions = oRpt.ExportOptions
With crExportOptions
.DestinationOptions =
crDiskFileDestinationOptions
.ExportDestinationType =
ExportDestinationType.DiskFile
.ExportFormatType =
ExportFormatType.PortableDocFormat
End With
' Export the report
oRpt.Export()
Response.Write("report exported to: " & fname)
' Create a new mail attachment and add the
' exported report
Dim att As New Mail.MailAttachment((fname))
Dim oMsg As New System.Web.Mail.MailMessage()
oMsg.Attachments.Add(att)
' Set the To, From, And subject for the email
oMsg.To = "someonesemail at email.com"; // the system will not let me use real email
oMsg.From = "myemail at mail.com "

• Want to buy an iPad, need some decision support input

Want to buy an iPad, what should be decision parameter.

One point that should always be made with people asking this question....regarding memory capacity...get more than you think you will need.  The amount of "stuff" stored always seems to grow to expand the amount of memory we have...and there is no way to upgrade the memory.

• Mac Book Pro - Maverick - Multi-user support

Hi
I would like to know if it's possible to use a single mac book pro two people simultaneously.
The idea is to have one of them using it from "local" (mouse + laptop keyboard + laptop screen) and another one that could maybe be "networked" (vnc or similar).
And if the answer is "yes" ¿could both of them be using the same software (for example adobe photoshop)? (obviously each user with managing its different files).
Thanks in advance!

Used it once, but I spent more time "allowing processes" than feeling safe because it was blocking bad things.  Your mileage may vary.
I use "NoScript" in Firefox to control which Javascripts in pages are allowed.  I use "AdBlock" to prevent popup ads.  I use "Ghostery" to prevent things from tracking where I go.
But with all of those you start with "block all until notified otherside" and spend time selecting allowed things.  For my Firefox, it *is* worth my time unblocking certain things.

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.

Hi. I'm looking to purchase an ipad air, but before I do I need to know if the device can be used by multi user logons like a lap top can be?

Thanks for your help. Bit of a shame really as it would be used as a family device for games etc but I don't want to double purchase everything, plus my progress in a game would be different to others.

• Since iPad is not a multi user device,

I'm interested in how other users deal with this.
My 1st iPad (I'll purchase more) is a coffee table device available to family and friends. Since I have many Apple products and confidential information that I don't want to share with friends/family/friends of family, I have taken the follow steps:
1. Not synced with Mobile Me, even though I subscribe, I don't want other people to sync to my master computers/databases. They can't make changes to my personal data.
2. I created a new email ID only used by the iPad. All mail sent by "other people" are sent from this ID.
3. Create Mail rules to forward general purpose family email to the iPad email ID.
4. Create subfolder/smartfolders of contacts, calendars, photos, etc and just download those subsets during sync.
5. Entrys into the iPad calendar upload into my master calendar but don't change anything I have set.
6. Contacts contain a small subset of family, friends. People that the typical user would email.
The iPhone, iPod have all been "personal devices". Information loaded wasn't as critical because that device was in one's personal possession. The iPad in many cases crosses that line into a multiuser device with single user support. All your personal data shouldn't be loaded for others to see/modify.
Your thoughts?

It's true, Capt. Fred, there's no security as yet on the iPad. Pages doesn't even let you save anything with a passcode. There are third party apps that will secure things (like +Documents to Go+ and Safe ) so you can secure files if you want to. You can also, of course, secure the entire iPad as you could the iPhone. It even has that feature that wipes the whole thing clean after 10 wrong password entries. But other than that, the whole thing is open and it does not support more than one user. There has been discussion of that elsewhere in this forum. In order for the OS to support a Windows or Mac like multi user account system, the thing would need to get a bit more complex than Apple wants just now, I think. But as more and more users migrate to the iPad for pretty much full time use, there will be more and more clamoring for more complexity and functionality. So it's a matter of time, I think. Already Apple is going to multitasking in the upcoming OS 4.0 upgrade for iPad and latest iPhones. My only question is, will my first run iPad support these inevitable future upgrades? We'll see, I guess. Sure hope so.

• Multi-language support for user-specified text strings used in the forms

multi-language support for user-specified text strings used in the forms
Instead of creating multiple forms, 1 in each different language, for the same service, is there any workaround?

Hoan - is your question what are the considerations when creating multiligual catalogs? If so, I can tell you that at other clients I have seen them use a single catalog for one or two languages. For the two langugages, such as Spanish/English, you can create a single catalog with both of them. Once you get to more than two languages, the catalog would get unweildy and is therefore not suggested.

Buy or borrow an external USB optical drive.
See the confirmation email or covering letter to obtain the serial number. If you have lost it, contact the supplier.

• I need a true multi-user contact management that do not involve the web

I have over 11,000+ contact in my contact data base and it is getting really slow, especailly when it try to update with iCloud.  I need a  true multi-user contact management that do not involve the web. i.e. I prefer thety sync as most of the time, I do not have access to internet at all!  I would perfer it wil work with apple contact in some way, but I need a robust contact data base... sort of the older style CRM without the web, but with sneaker net ablity and true client server speed!  I really do not feel like wriitng it in a relationship data base and do the hard work and prefer to just pay and get a top notch product.  Address book server seems to be great except I am running moutain lion and it does not work under that OS!
Any suggesytino would be sincerely appreciated.

As my friends above have pointed out, the sweet spot on the JVC is the size of a postage stamp; move a few degrees in any direction and the image takes a trip into the dumper. Even that can be worked with except when you're cheek to jowl with a producer and dp - one of whom had extremely bad breath - looking over a cut for approval. The screen is incredibly reflective so you'll see something from the next county over. Other than these two rather large problems, the imaging of the JVC looks nice.
The Flanders are decent products and I would like to see them in use other than the horrid conditions at NAB, but I wouldn't go overboard with praise for them like some of the grazers do on the Creative Cow. They have a 30 day no questions asked return policy and that gives you a chance to use them which is nice. I really hate their big white logo, if I was to get one I'd have them remove it first.
$3,000 to $4,000? You really want my opinion? Find a good used Sony BVM or Ikegami HTM, something with low hours on the tube or something that has been recently retubed. Those animals are still out there. Maybe by the time it dies all this flat panel bs may have worked itself out.
