Ipad needs support for multiple user accounts!

There is a big difference between a smartphone and a tablet computer. Tablet is a device that may sit on a coffee or a kitchen table, with everyone in the family being able to check on their own email, browse internet, etc. and still have privacy for their own data. Very few of us can afford to buy an ipad for each family member.
I would say this should be number one priority for apple, more urgent than new screen, better camera, etc.
We need this feature, even if it comes with some restrictions compared to OSX – for example, if all applications of a logged out user should terminate. The trouble is how to do it so thousands of existing applications won’t be affected by it. The good news is that all apple devices run unix underneath, which may make it easier to implement this much needed functionality.
If you agree with me on this issue, let's make some noise on this thread and let apple know what we really need!

You have never heard of webmail?
Tell that to Apple if you have a MobileMe account! Anyway, it's not just mail, there is Facebook, Twitter, and all the other user accounts that have to be logged in and out of.
We do not need this feature, you might but I do not.
You may not, and I may not, but lots of people do, so please respect their needs.
It clearly is highly unlikely that iOS would ever get this feature, but there is no harm in sending feedback to Apple.

  • Enabling right click for multiple user accounts via ARD

Is there a way to enable secondary click on multiple user accounts at the same time using ARD? Is it possible to do this using a UNIX code? If so could someone give me an example of the code?
Thanks in advance for any help.

    It should be something like:
    defaults write com.apple.driver.AppleHIDMouse Button2 2
You'll need to get the exact domain name for your systems' mice; use
    defaults domains
and look for the mouse driver entry.

  • Use 1 itunes library for multiple user accounts

Is there a way to use 1 library for multi-user accounts on mac osx? I have 4 iphones and was previously using the main account only. I'm getting tired of having everyones contact lists downloaded into my main phone. I can't seem to figure out how to sync the music to the same library.

    Hi There,
I sync 2 iphones with the same library, and to stop the other iphones contacts adding to mine I have two groups in the address book, one has my contacts in and the other my friends. I then just sync the appropriate address book in the info pane when the iphone is plugged in.
    Hope this helps.

  • Find my Friends : Support for multiple users under the same Apple ID?

Can multiple users under the same Apple ID use the app to find each other?  My daughter uses my Apple ID with her iPod touch which allows me to monitor her purchases but it seems that only one device under an ID can use the app at a time.  If that is the case then it is a major disadvantage and I will need to go back to using latitude (or Find My iPhone which also allows me to see where all of my devices are at the same time)

  • "Master" AddressBook for multiple user accounts?

I have three user accounts on my mac. Is it possible to set up the AddressBook so that all users have access to the same information?
In other words, I would like to have just one "master" address book, so to speak, which can be accessed (read and write) from all my accounts.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions

login with the admin account and uninstall
then login with your normal account and install the latest
flash player, it's the newest on the flash player 9 package.. Don't
forget to close all browser windows before installing.
To be on the safe side, uninstall the flash player using this

    Be aware of this:
Note: Internet Explorer users may have to reboot to clear all

  • Still no support for multiple users!!

The only reason I recently updated to 5.0 is I was anxiously awaiting the addition of multi-user support to my Lenovo A10-70 tablet. I had bought it for my young daughter after she broke the screen on her Nexus. Well, without support for User Accounts, this tablet is useless to a parent. I cannot believe a large company like Lenovo does not offer this with its Android tablets!  Mark, Cleo, Serene, Lenovo admins - I hope you are reading this. I am also posting this on Amazon where I bought my tablet. Such a shame - great hardware but such poor software choices. P.S. Major issues with the new update to Android 5.0. WiFi does not stay connected. Many Google apps will not run, including Gmail!

Multi-user support is not common in tablets - so far, the ONLY tablet I have found with solid multi-user support is the Galaxy Tab/Note 4 (and even it has issues if you mis-configure it).  (Why do I refer to the Tab/Note 4?  Yes - the Note 4 is a phablet, and is typically sold via providers AND has a taller resolution than the Tab 4; those are, in fact, the ONLY differences between the Tab 4 and Note 4.  They have common features otherwise, and even their updates are released simultaneously.)  Lenovo even did the same thing with the A-series - compare their phablet models (G, GV, and H) with their wireless-only F models - you'll find so many commonalities it's not funny.  It's the phablets that are getting all the update love (especially when it comes to Lollipop); tablets (F subseries), not so much. Also, phablets are huge in Asia and India (look at sales of the G, GV, and H - the forums HERE are also rather obvious in those reporting successful updates - they are all from Asia or India); Lenovo doesn't push phablets in Europe or North America.  (I have no idea whether it is provider resistance or not.)  If you want solid multi-user support as a parent, look to Samsung (simply because they actually implemented it properly, which most tablet OEMs aren't going to be bothered with - it's not a knock specifically on Lenovo, because it's not specifically a Lenovo issue). On the Lollipop update issue; how many of us are still soldiering on with the same amount of storage that our tablets came with?  (I'm referring mainly to us F-subseries folks.)  The thing about the F subseries is that they all have small - if not downright miniscule - amounts of usable eMMC storage; out of the 8GB of eMMC storage the device has, only half that - 4GB - is usable from the start.  And every app you install, and assorted things that go along with it, eats into that.  Look at the size of the UPDATES that are being reported; S000023 alone is nearly 200MB.  The big combo updates - and if you're coming merely from S000020, which is the North American starting place for the F - you're talking nearly a gigabyte just to get to S000027 - do you have that much usable storage?  We may well have to bite the bullet and install medium or large (16GB/32GB) microSD cards in our tablets just because of the update-size issue.  (It's not like 16GB microSD cards are all that expensive, even retail - I see them at the local Best Buy for - at worst - $15 for SanDIsk Ultra - that's the high end brand of microSD card.)  We may be getting those "you have the latest version" due to available-space constraints - I've seen it happen on space-coinstrained WINDOWS PCs often enough.

  • Support For Multiple Blogger Accounts?

I have two blogger user accounts (about 2-4 blogs per account
under different screen names) and I would love to have both my
accounts supported in Contribute. Currently I can only set up a
Blogger connection using one gmail/blogger account. When I try to
add a second one it brings up the existing record for the first and
says I already have an existing Blogger connection set up in
Contribute. Is there a way to set up and establish two blogger
account connections in the Contribute settings/connections so
    they're accessible? Thanks!

    Same thing happens to me.
When I add a second exchange account, all of the mail (including folders) from the first account move into the second one. The first account that was added is empty. I have two other exchange accounts, but haven't dared to add them. For now, I deleted the second account and have just the one (that is used the most) setup in Mail.

  • Support for multiple Exchange accounts

I can't seem to get multiple exchange accounts to work in Mail. Everything I have read says it should work but no such luck.
I have 4 accounts on our exchange server so i need them all in Mail. The first one I set up works fine, but if I add others, the messages do not appear in the mailboxes anymore.
Has this happened to anybody else? I have tried it on my iMac and my MacBook Pro and the same thing happens on both.

  • Need help getting multiple user accounts access an app and its data

    Hello All,
We recently got a new iMAC. We set up 3 user accounts in it. Two are admin accounts (one for me and one for my husband). The third is a user account with parental controls turned on (for our kid). Here is the basic setup:
    1. Accnt1 - admin
    2. Accnt2 - admin
    3. Accnt3 - user
Now, I installed the complete national geographic application on the iMAC along with all the data. This is a 6 CD set that took several hours to install. I installed it logged in with Accnt1 (please see above). This installed all the data (150 years worth of data) onto the Documents folder for Accnt1.
The installation was successful and when I launch the application, I can view all the data from Accnt1.
So what is the problem? I tried logging in from Accnt2 and Accnt3. While the applciation is visible and will launch from both those user profiles, no data gets displayed. My guess is that this is because the data from the 6 CD's got installed onto the Documents folder for Accnt1 which is not viewable/accessible from Accnt2 and Accnt3. Therefore, nothing gets displayed.
How do I fix this issue without reinstalling the software so that ALL 3 user accounts on my iMac can access the application AND its data?
My guess is that I will have to provide user permissions/access to the Documents folder for Accnt1 such that both Accnt2 and Accnt3 are read/write. I tried to do that via the Finder and 'More info' operation wherein I click on the tiny lock icon at the bottom of the screen and add Accnt2 and Accnt3 as read/write. But this does not fix the problem for ALL folders further down and I dont want to fix each and every folder.
Is there a quick way to resolve this problem? Can I fix this issue via a terminal window with a command?
    Please do help me out.
    Thanks in advance

Move the data folder out of A's documents folder and into /Users/Shared. Then, control-option-command-drag the data folder from its new location back to its original location in A's documents folder. This makes an alias. Log in to the other user accounts and repeat the process for making aliases, to each user's Documents folder.
You might also contact the developer and politely suggest that they learn how to write programs properly for Mac OS X.

  • Multi-language Support for Different Users/Accounts

Does anyone know if iWork has international language support? That is to say, ideally the menus should reflect the language settings of the user. I like to work in English but my wife is more comfortable with Japanese. We share an imac G5 and would like to both use iWork, even if it means buying a family license, rather than two seperate versions.

Yes, iWork comes with both English and Japanese localizations and should switch automatically to Japanese if your wife's OS X account has the system language set to Japanese. You can probably also have it run in Japanese without the system being that way by unchecking English in the Languages tab of Get Info for the program you are using. One copy is fine.

  • Create a dock template for multiple user accounts

i have 50 users on one machine that i need to have an identical non-standard dock for each of them. is there a way of doing that without having to individually change all 50 accounts? anybody? does anyone have an idiots guide how to do this?

You would need to set up the Dock exactly as you want it then migrate the file:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist

  • Setting up accounts for multiple users

Suggestions for allowing multiple users to access one account to avoid having to reimburse folks for every download on their work iPads?

short answer, no. Mail.app does not have support within itself for multiple user accounts. It displays the messages from the mailboxes of the user that is currently logged in. so if you want multiple people to read their mail on the same mac without being able to read other users' mail, you will need to set up multiple user accounts. alternatively, use another client. i think thunderbird supports multiple mail accounts under the same user account. hope this helps.

  • IPad / iOS - Multiple User Accounts

I (and countless others) would love it, if the iPad could set up multiple user accounts, just like the Mac OS; multiple user and guest accounts in iOS, is such an obvious need.
The iPad is so meant for multiple users in a household, guests etc. I don't want to hand someone, a friend or anyone my iPad with access to all my email, pictures, bank info, game scores, etc., etc. when they just want to surf the web or DJ some music from my music library on the home network.
Please, please Apple, add multiple user accounts to the iPad, just like the native Mac OS.
While you're at it, add this to the iPhone—sometimes I want to let a friend or relative play games or whatever on a roadtrip, withouth them digging through my personal info, a guest account with specified app access and premissions would resolve this.
Apple, I know you're trying to sell devices, but look back to see why you implemented this in the Mac OS to discover why you'd do it for portable devices too, it's a no-brainier.
    Thanks!!

Nobody from Apple here. Just other users like yourself.
You are not the first person to ask for this and I'm sure you will not be the last. But, if you really want to get the message across... Try here.

  • XPERIAZ2 LTE not supporting multiple user accounts?

So I have just spent a small fortune and received my XPERIA Z2 LTE Tablet
    - and after searching high and low I have concluded that the 'multiple user account' functionality in Android has been stripped away for the LTE version of this tablet.
Which means that just about any personal service on this tablet is rendered useless.
    (e-mail, calendar, youtube, bookmarks +++).
This feature is present on the non-LTE so I really hope a Sony representative can explain to me why it is not present on the LTE variant?
Will the feature be implemented in an update?
To me the decision to leave this functionality out on the most expensive tablet you're selling borders to retardation and also fundamentally annoys me.

As far as I can see, there is support for Multiple users in the Xperia Z1 LTE version - so why not in the Z2 version.
I just bought a Z2 Tablet - and I have spend hours trying to figure out why I could not add more users - until I found this thread.
It must be pretty easy to just open up for it - I guess the problem is that Z2 LTE things its a phone and hence do not need the multiple users.
This is a big issue for me - I have more need for multible users then the LTE - I seriously think about handing it back to the store :-/

  • How can I create a folders of apps for multiple users?

I use several iPads with my students and would like to set up a folder for each student. I want to place "an alias" of each app the student uses in their folder. On my Mac, I can "make alias" and place aliases in seperate folders. How can I do that on my iPad? Thanks!

You can drag one app on top of another and make a folder. However the limit to this is, for your situation, there can be no sharing of apps....the app Fred can only be in one folder because it's only on the device once.  (so it may not work for what you need)
and I cannot recall if you can edit the name of the folder.
Unfortunately, for situations like yours, the iPad was created to be a single user device, so there's really not support for multiple users or multiple levels of access.
