  • IPhone 4s new battery issue

I've had a brand new battery put into my iPhone 4s and it went from 100% to 5% in about 3 hours while not in use. I've now put it on charge and the battery percentage is increasing but it keeps turning itself off and back on every 5 minutes or so. Just wondering if anyone knew what the issue was and how to fix it?
    Thanks in advance.
edit: just took it off charge for around 20 minutes and it went from 38% to 8% it drops about 5% every time it resets itself.

Just to add to this - I've had the phone on charge overnight for about 11 hours and the battery is at 74% and it's still resetting itself every 5 minutes

  • Brand new battery issue....installed myself, still depleting power quickly

    Good morning everyone.
I have one of the original Ipod Classic 160's. Its been a wonderful item thus far. The battery started losing power a little bit quicker than normal. I probably would only get about 10 hours out of it. Not too bad, but that's on all low settings.
I figured I'd go ahead and take a crack at opening it myself and put in a new battery (side note: you have to be really gifted and have the right tools to not damage the body of the ipod slightly).
The new battery is in. It immediately read only half power, so I plugged it into my home player to charge it. It charged really really quickly. I started playing it, and it started losing a little power quickly as well. I charged it again over night, and on my 40 minute trip to work this morning, it lost a little bit of power.
Obviously, one of my options is that I got a bad battery, BUT...a bad battery is usually a more dynamic problem then just the little discharge its doing. Plus, its discharging almost exactly like my old battery did. So, although Its still a possibility its a bad battery, I've got a theory that maybe there is a hardware or software issue????
That's my main question: Are there hardware and/or software issues that could cause a battery to drain, no matter how good the battery is?
Any other thoughts are welcome too.

I apologize for bumping my own question here, but I figured it would be best to share my experience for others to read.
I am sending this as a buyer beware. If you have the Classic 160, your battery should be 850 mah at minimum. This place I bought replacements from advertised a 550 mah as for the Ipod classic 80/160...not true.
Just an FYI. I know this is a rare situation, but just in case there is that one person that runs in to this. My initial battery from Apple was definitely dying, and it just happened to be coincidence that the new batteries didn't have enough "juice" to run it properly, so I continued to think it was me. 3 batteries later, its sorted.

  • A new iOS update and another new battery issue on the iPhone 5

Has anyone else contacted Apple support and been given te same old "solutions" on the battery issues?
    1) Turn off location services.
    2) Turn off background app updates.
    3) Restore as a new device.
These solutions turn a smartphone into a dumb-phone. I love my iPhone but with every new iOS update, the battery becomes incredibly unreliable.  Has anyone found a solution that does not kill the iPhone's functionality?

You can try a soft-reset of pressing and holding both the home and sleep buttons for 10 to 15 seconds so that it reboots, but you are likely to get the same screen. If it does then it will need to be connected to a computer's iTunes so that it can be reset back to factory defaults - do you have a friend with a computer with iTunes installed on it, or is there an Apple store nearby that you could try going to (if there is then preferably make a Genius Bar appointment at it, or don't go at a busy time) ?
Has she been backing up to the cloud ? If she has then she should be able to restore to that. If not then what she can redownload for free from the stores will show in the Purchased tabs in the store apps.

  • New battery issues

I'm running into issues with a replacement battery for my FW800 PB. It's a high-capacity NewerTech battery purchased from OWC. I'll run through what's happened and what I've done and hopefully someone can give me a little insight into what's going on.
Around the first of the month when the new battery showed up, I shut down the computer, installed the new battery, and left it overnight to charge. The next day, turned it on, checked the sys. profiler and it said I had a little over 5400mAh at full charge. Not bad, but per the instructions I did a calibration cycle. I ran the battery down till the laptop went to sleep (almost 5hrs, again not bad, especially since I was used to the 3 minutes I was getting from the original Apple battery), plugged it in, and left it overnight. Next day I checked the profiler again, but now my full charge capacity was in the 5200's. Hmm. Another calibration, down to the 4900s. Again, down to 4800. At this point I email OWC tech support and they recommend up to 10 calibration cycles to get a true capacity reading. So over the next week or so, more calibrations....4600, 4400, 4100, 3900, 3500, 3200!!! Ok, now I'm mad, so I call NewerTech and I'm not more than 5 words in before the agent on the phone says they'll do an RMA for a new battery. So, new battery arrives Tuesday. Same deal, turn off the laptop, put in the new battery and let it charge overnight. Next morning I have 5200mAh. I was afraid to do it, but I did a calibration anyway, 5200 turned into 4900. Did another, down to 4600. One more last night, and this morning I'm down to 4200! ***? 1000mAh's gone in 3 days? Why?
So I guess my question is are their batteries really that bad, is my PB's power management or power adapter mucking things up, or am I not performing the calibration properly? On one hand I don't wanna complain because ANYTHING is better than the original Apple battery which was beyond dead, but at the same time I don't think any battery should degrade that rapidly. I plan on calling OWC again today, but I'm wondering if I should go through the hassle of doing yet another RMA or just give up and go with Apple. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Input would be appreciated.
    Thanks!!
    G

I would go ahead and talk to OWC, making it plain that you're dismayed by the way these two batteries have behaved. Ask for one that's verifiably from a different production batch, or for a different battery altogether if they carry one. OWC is a good vendor and wants you to be happy. Give them another chance to make that happen, but make it clear that after three strikes they'll be out, and you'll expect a refund.

  • New Battery Issue

My 3.5 year old MacBook original battery caacity was rapidly diminishing over the past 3-4 months. Was only getting about an 1 3/4 hours max. And it would shut off randomly at 15-20 minutes remaining. I purchased a replacement and after installing, it shows battery health at 82%, and 4616mAh maximum charge. The time remaining also fluctuates very wildly. Will this improve to normal 5600mAh after calibration?

    Ron--
Can't be for sure, but I'd be back down to wherever you got that battery and getting a new one as an exchange. That shouldn't be happening on a new battery.
    Best of luck--

  • IPhone 5 - New battery issues since 6.1 update

Hello to who will listen,  I have had my iPhone 5 since it's release.  The battery life was never as good as my 4's but I understood this with the new LTE and larger screen it would be expected.  But - I just downloaded the 6.1 update and my battery life is now horrible!  I used to make it through the whole day on a charge but now it's done by 5:00 meaning it's absolutely dead.  I couldn't figure out what was going on until I remembered I did the update on Sunday.  I understand suggesting to shut things off (wifi, LTE, Bluetooth, killing running apps) but these were on before the update without causing me issues.  My wife's iphone 5 doesn't have the update applied and last night it still had a 50% charge left while mine was dead - we each used ours about the same amount of time even.  I believe that Apple needs to issue an update to the 5 owners as well,  This isn't a user issue but an OS issue and how it handles power usage...

Don't let the door hit you in the a** on the way out.

  • IPad 1 battery issues, NOT rleated to iOS 5.0.1

    OK, here's the deal:
I did the update to 5.0.1 and battery life had been fine.  Just rcently I learned that I was supposed to periodically drain my battery all the way down and charge to full to keep it "in shape."  Well, I did that and now my battery seems to drain rather fast...about 1% every six minutes in real light usage (using one app only) and also seems to drain in standby.  ***!?!?!?!?
Seriously, any help would be much appreciated -- I've done everything the Apple techs are likely to suggest: turned off Locator, Wi-Fi, etc.

    Try a Restore...
1: Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.
3: If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try using the steps in this article to force the device into recovery mode.

device is showing 100% chared while pluged in and 98% as soon as i remove the charger ?
    iOS 6.1.2 upgraded

I've had mine since December and it does the same thing. I noticed that if I reboot it after unplugging (when it says 98%) it changes to 100% when it starts back up. That isn't a very good solution to the problem though.

  • IPAD 3 battery charging issues

iPAD 3 battery charging issues. Read most of the discussions. My question is: If I take my iPAD to Apple Genius bar - what's the test they do to qualify for a replacement (do they place it on a charge and see the charge for Y% for X minutes or do they have other methods)

We're iPad users like you, so don't know.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Ipad mini is completely dead. Button reset does not work. Will new battery fix it?

So a few months ago my ipad mini decided to die 1 month exactly out of warranty... convenient right? Anyway it was charging overnight and was fine when i set it down to sleep. Display and everything was fully functional. The next day i left alone charging, and I came home later to use it. Didnt turn on. tried the reset with the 2 buttons to no avail. Took it to apple and they said it was dead dead, and only offered a replacement.
Thing to mind here is that the charger i was using was somewhat faulty. It would sometimes rapidly charge and discharge due to a faulty connection. My thought is that maybe this started to happen and zapped the battery? Now with this as a possibility, would a completely new battery fix the issue? I could do the repair myself and I'm wondering if the effort is even worth it.

What did the Genius say at the Apple store? I would ask them if a repair is a possible solution. There are certified techs out there that can do the repairs. I once had a damaged antenna on my iphone (out of warranty-they offered a replacement) and I asked the genius if it was possible to fix it and he said yes. It took me a while to get the OEM parts from China, so yes, its possible, but I would ask the Genius first.
Be sure to tell the Genius that you have a faulty connection at home. If you can correct the faulty connection, fix it. If not is it possible to charge it somewhere else?

  • Brand New iPad Mini WiFi ISSUES

So I bought my iPad Mini 32gb a week ago and I've been using it eversince with my house's wifi. I recently updated it to iOS 6.1.3 and a couple of days after I started having WiFi issues. So I connect to my wifi and use it as usual, but after 5 minutes of using it the internet stops working eventhough it still shows the 3 bars of internet on the top left corner next to iPad. To fix this I have to turn off my iPad every time. I am trying to see if there is a solution or if I will have to send it to the apple repair center or change it for a new one for 40 bucks. I really need internet on it so please help. ( IT IS URGENT.)

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button
