IPad nightmare, literally

I purchased a retina iPad mini and I love it, but the battery has been very flakely. Battery life is 5 hours max, but I think its actually an issue with reporting vs actual usage time. I have watched 20 minutes of a movie and the battery usage time had only gone up by 1 minute etc. But yeah, something is definitely wrong with it.
I desperately wanted to have it sorted before Christmas, because I was concerned that if I did not sort it soon, I'd be given a refurbed unit, which I really didn't want.
I booked an appointment for this evening and on the way, we hit a tree that had fallen in the road and completely wrote our car off and pretty much ruined our Christmas but I guess thats a whole other story.
I contacted Apple support and I spoke with a guy who said they dont give out refurbished iPads if their is a defective battery, but that is news to me. Whenever I have had a problem with my iPads, iPhones etc, I am certain the models I've been given are refurbished? I thought this was a well known practice with Apple?
Anyway, my iPad is now gonna have to wait until January until I can take it in to the store. What do you imagine will happen? Will I be given a new iPad, refurbished or something else?
I know it might sound stupid, I just resent swapping my brand new iPad, that I've kept immaculate, for some refurb model.

I really don't know what they'll give you but know that in most cases, a refurb can be better since they are scrutinized and inspected/tested more thoroughly than the ones that come off an assembly line.

IPAD NIGHTMARES: NYTimes app won't load anymore... and more!!

That's the thing: a week short I bought my iPad in Spain, I'm back to Brazil and bad surprises started happening:
1. My NYTimes app does not open anymore (the screen shows for minutes that it's "loading". Forever);
2. My Mail app (yes, the Apple one) crashed today out of nothing for the second time while I was busy typing an important letter;
3. The Twiterrific app won't open anymore, even though I'm placing and replacing the correct username and password (on the site it works just fine);
4. Songs playing on the background crash the moment I open the Youtube app.
Any chance this is due to the iTunes hacking? I'd appreciate some expert opinion.

That was quite helpful, but I'm afraid it won't solve the problem either.
Once I got back to Brazil, I still could access my NYT apps (the editor's choice and the regular one for my iPhone and iPod) for five days in a row. But I'm telling you: out of nothing, they suddenly started behaving like that. This is driving me crazy because I think I've done at all, especially delete the apps a dozen times.
Anyway, this Twitterrific app once showed me a message that could possibly explain what is happening and it probably has something to do with your guess: it said I had to reconfigure my iTunes account for some reason. I didn't get what it meant in the first place, and then it never showed the message again.
But it's certainly something related to my bank account, because my apps ipon the ipod and iphone won't work anymore either. How can I deal with this "checking-account" procedure??
Somebody please help!!!

IPad and iTunes Freak Out!

Bought a new iMac in November and finally got around to backing up my iPad to it. All software is up to date on both, but when I plug my iPad into the computer it starts freaking out. On the iPad, a message pops up about trusing or not trusting the computer, however it flashes multiple times on the screen and I can't hit trust. Also, the battery icon flashes charging/not charging. Really, the whole screen keeps flashing. On the computer (screen shot attached) this pops up. I hit continue and then the second picture pops up. To top it off, once I unplug the iPad I literally had to click "Ok" in the second picture 37 times before it went away. I've owned three iPads and 4 or 5 Macs over the years and have never had something like this happen. I can't connect via wifi either. I have tried restarting the computer and iPad. I have not tried another lightning cable because I do not have one. The cable I have works fine if I plug it into the wall to charge it. Oh yeah, I also tried using all of the USB ports on the computer.
I'm running an iPad with Retina (Model MD511LL/A) wifi 32gb on iOS 7.0.4, a 27" iMac with OS X Mavericks 10.9.1 and iTunes 11.1.3

Notice how it says iPhone instead of iPad? I have to hit ok multiple times after I unplug the iPad. If I leave it plugged in, this does not go away.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.
Not normal. Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.

IPad won't connect to Wi-Fi at home

I've been messing with this quite a bit last night. Brand new iPad, just updated it through iTunes last night, and can't get it to connect the internet. My iPhone connects just fine (also running 6.1) so I don't see where the problem could be. There's no password on my connection, so I know it's nothing with that. I've tried:
1. Hitting "Forget Network" and trying to re-connect.
2. Resetting data network on the iPad.
3. Soft-resetting the iPad.
4. Resetting my router/modem (unplugging for 20 seconds or so, plugging back in).
None of that seems to work. Once in awhile, my iPad will connect to my network but there won't be any internet connection. There will be a "check" icon next to my network on the iPad, but there will still be a "refreshing" icon (the little icon that spins in circles) around the "Available Networks" text above my network.
Again, brand new 4th Gen iPad, haven't even had the chance to use it yet. Any ideas on what I can do?

Bumping this back up. Any ideas at all would be greatly appreciated! I also tried adjusting the brightness level, that didn't help.
I'm connected to Wi-Fi right now, but getting no internet access. Full-strength as far as bars go as well, my iPad is literally six inches away from my router right now lol. Again, iPhone has no issues what-so-ever on Wi-Fi.

In the Mail app on iOS 7, both my iPhone & my iPad show literally hundreds of emails, going back 3 months. It seems as thpough if I trash some of them, even earlier emails get loaded. How can I limit the no. displayed?

There is no Safari version 7.1 on the iPad. Did you tap the sold Blue bookmark icon again to be rid of the bookmarks list on the left? The one at the top of the toolbar. not the one in the bookmarks window,

IPad + Wireless Keyboard + Onscreen Keyboard?

Is there a way to tell the iPad to bring up the onscreen keyboard? The wireless keyboard connects and the onscreen keyboard disappears. I found that I can press the CD Eject button on the wireless keyboard to bring up the onscreen keyboard. What if the wireless keyboard isn't handy? Isn't there some way to bring up the onscreen keyboard from the iPad itself?

In case it helps anyone else, I found this in the manual:
Onscreen Keyboard Doesn’t Appear
If iPad is paired with a Bluetooth keyboard, or if it’s connected to the iPad Keyboard Dock, the onscreen keyboard does not appear. To cause the keyboard to appear, press the Keyboard key on the Keyboard Dock, or press the Eject key on a Bluetooth keyboard. Disconnecting the iPad Keyboard Dock, or moving the Bluetooth keyboard out of range or turning it off, will also allow the onscreen keyboard to appear.
My guess is that the bluetooth signal is reaching much further than you would expect, which explains why the onscreen keyboard won't display when the wireless keyboard and iPad are in different rooms or even separated by as much as 30 feet.
Update: This was confirmed... I ran a small test with one person at the iPad and another person walking around typing numbers on the wireless keyboard. Starting with 1,Return,2,Return,3,Return, etc. The keyboard and the iPad were literally 4 rooms (50+ feet) apart and still working together. It was pretty amazing.

IPad 2 Dent, Unable to Turn Volume Down Physically

I just got this iPad 2 as a present from him. I recently just opened it, and noticed that there is a dent ON the bezel direct center of the volume rocker. I can change the volume up, but i am unable to turn it down without using the multitasking bar. Also, you can get a fingernail in between the bezel and the screen, so in other words, dirt is able to get INTO my iPad 2, literally inside the casing. Would Apple cover this as this was a brand new product purchased March 11th, and was given to me as a present on April 8th. It was still in the shrinkwrap, so i know my dad didn't do it. It seems like a manufacturing problem. Is there anyway i can get it fixed using my Apple care limited warranty? The store won't allow me to take it back as it has been over 15 days.

The problem is the time frame that you have waited from purchasing to opening the product. But I would present my case to Apple Care regarding the 1 year warranty. Either call Apple Care at 1-800-MY APPLE or make an appointment for the Genius Bar in the nearest Apple Store and explain exactly the situation and ask for a replacement under the warranty. Get names and positions of everyone with whom you speak. If you are unsuccessful on the phone with the first tier agent ask to be transferred to the supervisor. Be firm but polite in insisting that this iPad must be replaced under the warranty. If you have no success, as a final resort ask for your call to be escalated to Apple Customer Relations.

Hi, do you mean that shortly after iOS powers up, the swirling progress circle comes up?
If that's the case, its instability in the OS. I'm more inclined towards completing a firmware flushing through iTunes.
Restore your iPad in this case through DFU (device firmware upgrade) mode
DFU is pretty much a power downed state of conducting an update.
Since your iPad is literally hiccing up *hic* every second *hic*, I'm thinking a powered up way of conducting a reset or firmware update isn't safe.
This is DFU
Attach the device to the pc
Turn the phone off
Hold power and home together for *exactly* 10 seconds
Release power but keep holding home until the pc beeps as a USB device is recognized.
At no point will the display come on. Now your restore should work.
Hold ctrl key + restore button on iTunes (for windows, I'm not sure of mac equivalent)
In the directory, point iTunes towards the ipsw download
Apple will now authenticate the firmware
Let the device do its job

Mac to iPad sync fails, "waiting for changes to be applied"

Wifi itunes sync of one-week-old iPad to Mac running recent Lion, iTunes hung with message on "Step 6" saying "waiting for changes to be applied."
I've seen lots of users report this, but this was with a pure Apple-to-Apple configuration, with an iPad 2 literally only a week old.

Does new IPad screen benefits writing too ?

Given the most paraded "retina display" with vastly increased pixels - does it lead to the possibility of better handwriting / drawing apps ? Those that exist now dont replace paper - despite their claims - however with the ability for the new IPad to literally have the dynamics of a pen and paper then this could be the killer-app at least ive been waiting for to take the IPad away from just "consumption device" to something actually useful (and if MS were to sort out its OneNote app to work along side this improvement then we're laughing - although this is probably the reason Apple havent pushed on the invention they introduced so many years ago with Newton!)

I use a Stylus frequently but handwriting apps are simply too clunky. The requirement for a finer stylus is a product designers dreak - as surely relatively simple task with such a potentially massive audience.....as the ability to make the iPad truly replace the "note pad" opens up the possibility of JUST having an iPad for business / studies!

If you have a wired connection, then that connection must be established......before.....you try to configure the AirPort device.
In other words, you cannot set up an AirPort to wirelessly "extend" the network.....which means that the AirPort will be expecting a wireless connection.....and then try to connect an Ethernet cable. That will crash the network.
You don't indicate what operating system you are using......but Lion, Mountain Lion, and Mavericks installed on a Mac, as well as AirPort Utility on an iPhone or iPad will literally confgure the AirPort for you automatically.
But, you must start from a factory default condition on the AirPort that will be extending, then make the Ethernet connection.....and then configure the device.

IOS Mail: Constant Incorrect Password Alerts

Sorry if this is redundant...didn't find this posted in my search.
I have 3 different Gmail accounts set up through iOS Mail on my iPad. Literally every time I open Mail, I get a pop up alert saying "Cannot Get Mail - The user name or password for Gmail 1/2/etc is incorrect". It gives me the option to hit OK or to directly to my mail settings. When I go to settings, I open it, leave the username and password alone and hit OK and everything saves like normal...which confirms that my username and password is correct.
Even though the error message appears, most times my mail still comes through but now I'm realizing sometimes it doesn't and I have no way of knowing.
What's going on with this?? I would assume this is a common problem...

I happened to stumble upon the answer. I would imagine a lot of other Gmail users are going to have this problem soon so here is the answer.
Gmail has just recently changed their security settings and they use what they're calling a "2-step verification" process. Because of this, certain apps like iOS Mail cannot verify passwords because they can't use the same process.
To fix this, Gmail now provides something called an "app specific password" that will be generated by Gmail and will allow iOS Mail to verify your Gmail account.
To set this up, go into your Gmail account settings on the Google website and click on privacy. Set up the 2-step verification process and it should be self explanatory from there.

Hello, my ipad mini is completely 0% and it won't charge on a wall charger, i tried to reboot, but then the low baterry sign pop up saying it is not charged, which is really annoying to me, i literally had to wait 8 hours to reach 1% before, thank you!

Hello, my ipad mini is not charging what so ever and it is literally 0%. Once I put it on my wall charger, it still won't charge. I tried rebooting it, by pressing the home and sleep button for 15 second. I tried to change the wall outlet, AC Charger Adapter with USB for the Apple ipad mini and nothing would not work. This happened more than a billion times, and i had to wait more than 18 hours just to reach 1% before.
My Imessage doesn't work either, each time I send a message it won't send.
I have lots of problems with my ipadmini.

ICal syncing from desktop to iPhone and iPad is a nightmare

I have a mid-2011 MBA running Mountain Lion, an iPhone 5C, and an iPad 2.
I use the Lightning add-on for Thunderbird for a calendar, but it is buggy. I really want to go back to iCal so I can have my calendar on my phone and on my iPad, but syncing is a nightmare. I cannot find any plain language information on the rationale behind why syncing works the way it does so that I can figure out how to make it work correctly.
What I want:
iCal desktop to be my primary calendar and to sync all updates to my iPad and iPhone. If I add an update on my iPad or iPhone, I want it to show up on iCal the next time I connect my device to the computer.
What actually happens:
iCal desktop is the secondary calendar. Anything that happens on the iPad and iPhone is more important. If I add an iCal event on the desktop app while I am connected to my iPhone and iPad, the events I create disappear because they do not exist on the iPad and iPhone. If I create them when the devices are not connected, when I do connect I either lose the events or they get triplicated.
I do not use iCloud to sync, only iTunes by checking 'sync calendars.' I have given up on ever making iCloud syncing work for anything. Last time I tried it, it just deleted all my books, music, movies, etc. (thank goodness for Time Machine backups) and quadrupled all my calendar events...
Can someone please take pity on me and explain how to make syncing
