IPad no charging/syncing

iPad will not charge! I am using the charger that came with the iPad. When connected it states "not charging". I know it is charging at a slower rate and also when connected to pc, iTunes does no recognize it. I can not sync! iPad will charge with my iPhone charger.I tried using iPhone USB to connect iPad to pc and it still does not recognizes the iPad.

You could try restarting the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up, hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears. Try to charge now.
You could try resetting the iPad as well. Press and hold down on the sleep button and the home button at the same time for about 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo appears - ignore the red slider. Try charging.
Also - try to connect to iTunes again after restarting/resetting. If you still have no luck ..... Read this about the device not being recognized in iTunes.

  • IPad's charging/syncing ICON with new cable.

I just bought a replacement charging/sync cable for my iPad.  Now the symbol quickly goes from the lightning ICON to the plug ICON.  When I plug it into my iMac, the iPad doesn't read "Not Charging" anymore but again goes from the lightning ICON to the plug ICON.  What is the difference between the (previously steady) lightning ICON and the plug ICON?  Is my iMac now charging the iPad due to a higher quality cable?  Did Apple change the ICONs?  I don't remember what the ICON was when it was syncing.

    Michael-
Your new cable works like mine now.  I think the lightning symbol only appears when it is charging.
The USB port on your Mac can charge the iPad, but very slowly, and then mainly when the iPad is asleep.  When awake, the iPad consumes about as much current as the Mac can supply.

  • IPad 3 Charging/Syncing Issues

So for some reason my iPad 3 will not charge or sync at all, no matter what cable I use. I have tried three different certified apple cables and several different chargers and laptops, none of which the iPad seem to recognize. The only way I have able to charge the iPad is when it is turned off. If I turn it off and plug it in, when I turn it back on it will have charged during that time. It's really frustrating and causes a lot of guesswork, and also makes it difficult for me to sync with iTunes. It hasn't backed up to iCloud in 5 weeks, and I have no idea what is causing this. I have erased all contents and settings, but that didn't do anything. I have tried to connect it to iTunes in DFU mode, but still nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I suspect the connector on the side of the iPad.
Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.

  • IPad not charging nor syncing

My iPad stop charging today and I don't know why. It's not my plug or cord because it charges my iPad. I've even tried turning it off and resetting it but it still won't charge. What wrong with it? When I plug it to the computer it doesn't get detected for sync or anything. It doesn't charge plugged to the wall or computer. Whats wrong?

Try a different cord just to rule that out. Then I'd take it to an Apple store and have them look at it. I had the USB port on my iPad go bad on me, so it does happen.
Before you take it in make sure you e-mail off anything you can't stand ot lose.

  • IMac will not charge/sync iPad Air - power icon oscillates between charging/not charging

    Brand new iMac 27" Retina
Connecting an iPad Air (about a year old) to charge/sync/backup.
After the lightning connector is attached to the iPad Air and I reply "OK" to "Trust this computer", the charging indicator in the upper right oscillates between the running on battery indicator and the green charging indicator rapidly/constantly about 1/2 second between changes.
If I run iTunes, the device appears/disappears in the left menu/device list at the same rate.
I cannot charge the iPad when connected to the iMac (not a big deal, can use external charger), but cannot access with iTunes for sync or backup either.
Have tried cold booting both the iPad and the iMac, but that doesn't help.
Running OX X Yosemite and iOS 8.1.1

    Hey rspiv,
The reason you are not getting a consistent charge on you iPad when it is connected to your iMac may be due to not being plugged into a high-powered USB port. As far as making sure that it stays connected to your iMac so you can sync with iTunes, try a different port as well as seeing if you can enable Wi-Fi syncing if it stays connected long enough. Take a look at the articles below for more information and troubleshooting options.

  • IPad 2 sometimes charges/syncs, sometimes not

I've searched high and low for the same topic, but nothing yet.
I just bought an iPad2 about 5 months ago, brand new from box.  It worked fine, but then beginning a month ago, it would randomly charge/sync to my laptop and other times randomly it would not.  Tonight, it is randomly NOT charging, nor syncing, in anyway with any I/O power source.
    1)  I am using the 30-pin charger wire that came with the device from box and am positive I am NOT confusing it with the basic iPod wire.
    2)  I tried alternating between using the wall charger that came with the device and charging it that way. - No lightning bolt sign, not charging from wall.
    3)  I tried alternating with different USB ports which have worked without any problems prior on my laptop (Toshiba - Windows running latest version of iTunes) - No lightning bolt sign, iPad is not even activating iTunes application, nor appearing in ITunes devices
    4)  I rebooted my laptop twice, just to be sure that it wasn't a faulty USB driver problem, as Toshiba's are wonky sometimes. - No change.
    5)  I tried hooking up my iPod Nano to my laptop, just to be sure that it wasn't an overall Apple, and/or Toshiba device meltdown.  - iPod Nano is recognized, synching and charging just fine on my Toshiba from USB port.
    6) I tried rebooting my iPad device - no change, device not activating iTunes, not showing up in computer, not being charged in wall charger that came with the device.
    7) No, I did NOT hack my iPad, nor did I install any illegal iOS versions of software.  *I wouldn't have a clue how to actually....
    8) iPad2 currently has 92% charge.  It is NOT overloaded with data, and still has plenty of room (about 7 gigs left)
I'm afraid to reset iPad2, because if I wipe all of the information that I have and it still doesn't recognize the device, I am sunk, basically.
Anyone have any other options, or might they know what the problem could be?
*PS: I didn't drop the iPad, didn't spill anything on it, didn't splice wires, didn't leave it in the sun... etc., etc.
It seems to work fine other than I can't get it to sync and charge at all.  Wi-Fi is fine, iCloud is turned off, so I can manually sync to a PC.

Take it into your local apple store. Mine acted up similarly and it turns out the 30 pin port was bad. Barring any obvious signs of abuse or neglect it should fall under the manfacturer's defects and be replaced..

  • Ipad can't sync can't charge

already reset ,change usb cable. No any response when plug in usb cable . What happen?
ps . when plug in usb cable and restart (with ipad adapter) it show "not charging"

The iPad has to be "Asleep" in order to charge from the computer. Even if it is asleep, if it is not connected to a High-Speed USB 2.0 port, it will not charge.
You can review information regarding batteries for the iPad here: http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipad.html
    "Charging Tips
The quickest way to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter. When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge, but only when it's in sleep mode. Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain."

  • TS3274 My iPad wont charge when I connect it to power

My iPad wont charge when I connect it to power. I have restarted it but the problem seems to be that it doesn't recongise the actual charger. Any ideas?

First ensure you are using a 10 watt/2 amp charger if you are not using the one included with the iPad. Then I would try a new sync cable. You can then test the charger by connecting another USB based device such as an iPod or iPhone to it to see if it charges. If the iPad is completely dead it may require some charge time before it will become responsive. If the sync cable and charger work fine with other devices you iPad is probably defective and requires repair.

  • I purchased some films on my ipad and since syncing with my itunes, I have lost all my films, can anyone help?

I purchased some films on my ipad and since syncing with my itunes, I have lost all my films, can anyone help?

There is some troubleshooting for 0xE8 error codes on this page : iOS: Unknown error containing '0xE' when connecting to a Windows PC
For the charging via USB, a lot of computers don't provide enough power to their USB ports to charge an iPad at a sufficient rate (it may still be charging, especially if the iPad's is locked and the screen is off), the iPad's own wall charger is generally the best way to charge it.

  • Wiped our old iPad 1 clean, now can't install iOS from iTunes.  iTunes does not "see" the devise.  Tried uninstalling and installing iTunes on laptop.  Also bought new USB cable.  The iPad is charging, but that's all it does.

Wiped our old iPad 1 clean, now can't install iOS from iTunes using laptop PC (W Vista).  iTunes does not "see" the device.  Tried uninstalling and installing iTunes on laptop.  Also bought new USB cable.  The iPad is charging, but that's all it does.  Just want to get it operating again for browsing and e-reading.

OK.  You merely erased the content and settings.  The IOS is still there.
If it has NEVER been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures.  From what you've already stated, my guess is that you'll end up with Recovery Mode described in the last paragraph.
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.

  • TS2634 ipad 3 charging problem?

I have a ipad 3 that has a charging problem as of late. It will not  charge while it is on. I first have to turn my ipad off and then plug it  in and then the ipad will turn itself back on and will charge. Thats  the only way i can get it to charge. It wont connect to my pc anymore to  connect to iTunes.  When I connect it to my pc I get a USB not recognize  by this device or some USB error. I tried the same thing by turning the  ipad off first and connecting it to the pc. It just turn on and I  receive the same message on my pc. What should I do? I'm thinking I may  need another USB cable but I'm not sure yet. Please help!

IF the reset doesn't help, try swapping out the cable.
Also, your ipad is best charged plugged into the wall with the supplied charging brick.
Usually charging/syncing problems are one of four things
    Bad power brick
    Bad USB cable
    Bad outlet
In your situation you may also want ot restart your computer, use a different USB port.
If none of that swappage and restarting fixes it then you may want to make an appointment at your local apple store because it's possible that there's something worng with the port on your iPad. And that is beyond a user fix.

  • IPad cable/charger safe to use w/ iPhone?

Is it safe to use the iPad sync cable and charger accessory (the ac adapter, not the one that came with the device) with iPhone or iPod? It would be convenient to not have to have separate cables laying around but I don't want to fry my stuff.

The cables aren't or shouldn't be a problem, but the iPad's charger might be. It is possible to charge an iPad with the wall charger included with the iPhone or iPod, but charging will be slower with the iPad when doing so vs using the wall charger included with the iPad.
Per this link, the Pad's wall charger indicates it is compatible with the iPad. No iPhone or iPod models are included.

  • Why new iPad want charge with charger?

My new iPad want charge with original 10v charger. It charges from my Mac, syncing and any other staff. I tried other chargers and cables, reboot, reinstall iOS. Nothing helped. When I inserte the cable from charger iPad still sleeps, no indication at all.

Seems like the charger is faulty. Take your iPad, cable and charger to an Apple store.

  • IPad 1: No sync, then ok, now not...

Like many a past query, I've iPad sync problems which are driving me insane,
Have acquired a 16gb iPad WiFi on Friday and first attempt at a sync failes. iPad 'not charging' via USB or seen in iTunes.
Downloaded newer version and voila....happily connected ans sync'd friday night.
Yesterday however, back to square 1 – no sync.
System profiler sees the iPad as a USB device, so know its not any cable or port issues, so its a software hitch.
Reinstalled iTunes from the diskimage i still had - no joy. Updated to OS 10.6.7, with no joy eiher. Repaired permissions several times before and during software updates - no joy.
    Whats left to try??

Amswered by a unusual file called com.apple.usbmuxd.plist~orig, which is discussed in another tech article, removed, restarted, voila!
    OMG! Success
Anyone care to tell me what this file actually 'does'?

If it was charging from zero that sounds about right. It takes 5-6 hours to totally charge.
