IPad "No SIM": dirty contacts?

I keep getting the 'No SIM' error on my iPad 2. The first time this happened and I found that removing and reinserting the card didn't work at first, but did after blowing air into the slot. A little while later the same thing happened, but this time it was only a couple of days or so before the SIM was again not recognised.
Obviously, it's quite a hassle reinserting the SIM due to the awkward design of that particular aspect of the machine and also the need to do a complete reboot, so I'd rather not have to do this the whole time.
FWIW I have replaced the SIM a few times anyway as I've found that due to the stupidity of 3 network pricing it is much cheaper to buy a new pay as you go SIM every three months. So I suppose there is slightly more wear and tear on that than there might otherwise be, but hardly enough that it should cause a problem.
I wonder if anyone knows why I am getting this problem, or if there is a way to avoid it?

Well, I have since upgraded to the new iPad, and my dad is using the 2 (currently without a SIM I believe, so I can't comment on how reliably it is now working). IIRC, it did get a bit better after some more taking the SIM out and putting it back in again, possibly blowing clean air into the slot and wiping the SIM itself with a cloth etc...
Maybe that's of some slight use to someone.

My wife bought an iPad Air and synced contact from our PC (Outlook), now all our contacts in Outlook have gone and we have to go to iCloud to get them, and even then they are a bit jumbled. How do I get my data back onto my PC?

If you can see the iCloud contacts in Outlook, you can copy them back to your PC by selecting all the contacts (click one, then press Control-A), then drag and drop the selected contacts to Contacts under My Contacts on the left sidebar of Outlook.
If you want to copy your calendar back to Outlook, select your iCloud calendar on the left sidebar of Outlook, switch to the list view (select View from the ribbon, then click Change View>List), select your events (click on a single event, then press Control-A), then control drag and drop them to Calendar under My Calendars on the left sidebar.
Then you can sign out of iCloud on the iCloud control panel and your local copies will still be there.  If you want to add your iCloud email account back to iCloud, you can do this with these settings: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864.

  • How do I get an iPad micro sim card for Austria and Italy?  We purchased one for Germany, but it doesn't cover in Austria or Italy

How do I get an iPad micro sim card for Austria and Italy?  We purchased one for Germany, but it doesn't cover in Austria or Italy

Compare the roaming charges from the German carrier with services like those:
    http://www.abroadband.com
    http://www.maxroam.com/Shop/Product/Detail.aspx?ProductId=787&cur=EUR
Otherwise buy a pre-paid micro-SIM card for the iPad in each country you visit.

  • Ipad Micro Sim vs Iphone 4 Micro Sim

Just noticed this on the UK apple store. They sell Sim Unlocked Phones (like NZ and Australia etc) and under the FAQs they have the following:
Are iPhone 4 and iPad micro-SIM cards interchangeable?
No. Your iPad micro-SIM card will not work with your iPhone.
Surely that is a “we dont want you to interchange” as opposed to “it wont work” as I thought a micro sim card is a micro sim card and it will work in any device that needs one. Anyone else have any insight to this. You of the understanding that our Micro Sims from the Ipad (cut or purchased) will work in either device?

The iPad apparently will try to intercept calls when used with a regular phone microsim.

  • Do Apple stores in Madrid sell iPad 3G SIMS?

Do either of the Apple stores in Madrid, Spain, sell and activate iPad 3G prepaid accounts on behalf of local mobile providers?
If not, what is the recommended approach for a trouble-free purchase and activation? I've read accounts in this discussion group of difficulties with activations.
I will be visiting the country for 3 weeks of cycle touring beginning this Sunday so I'm looking for a prepaid plan.
    Thanks.
    Patrick.

I acquired my SIM from the Apple store at Oakridge Mall in Vancouver when I bought my iPad last year. I was able to choose from 3 Canadian teleco's and decided to go with Rogers. I gather the Apple stores in Spain do not sell SIMs.
Any suggestions regarding which Spanish telecom provider to choose for my iPad 3G SIM would be appreciated. I plan to be cycling for three weeks in the countryside north from Madrid to Bilbao and possibly along the Ebro river. So I am looking for coverage in rural areas. My partner will be shopping for a prepaid plan for her iPhone.
I would also appreciate knowing of a telecom outlet in central Madrid where staff are helpful and reasonably procifient in English. My Spanish is rudimentary at best unfortunately.
    Thanks.
    Patrick.

    Hey NicolasZen,
Thanks for the question and welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I understand that you are experiencing issues with “No Service” or “Searching” on your iPhone. The following resource provides some great troubleshooting steps that you may wish to try:
    iPhone: Troubleshooting No Service
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4429
Your iPhone may have one of these symptoms:
    - iPhone displays "No Service" or "Searching" in an area of good coverage
    - iPhone doesn't regain service when returning to an area of coverage
    Resolution
If you encounter either of the above symptoms on your iPhone, follow these steps to attempt to resolve the issue. Test after each step.
    1. Toggle airplane mode: Tap Settings > Enable Airplane Mode, wait five seconds, then turn off airplane mode.
    2. Turn iPhone off and then on again.
    3. Remove the SIM card and verify that it's a valid, carrier-manufactured SIM. Also verify that it isn't damaged, worn, or modified. Then reinsert it.
    4. Check for a carrier-settings update. Connect to a Wi-Fi network. Then tap Settings > General > About. If an update is available, iOS will ask you if you want to install it. If Wi-Fi isn't available, connect your device to iTunes.
    5. Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
    6. Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
    7. Restore the iPhone.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Synchronising phone contacts and SIM card contacts

    I have a 5300 music express.
Incoming calls or missed calls from contacts recorded on the SIM card are displayed as "no Number".
Unknown calls display the number, and it displays the name for contacts recorded on the phone.
How do I get the phone to stop displaying "No number" for the SIM card contacts?
    regards
    Will

I think that you misunderstood, none of the contacts are synced with Google and only one is stored on the sim card. The contacts were imported from Backup Assistant when I got the new phone.
