What version of iTunes are you using...since you say Windows 7 it should be fairly current. Sometimes with iTunes on Windows you have to start iTunes, then connect the iPad and wait for it to be recognized. If that doesn't work, make sure you are using the latest iTunes version and if not, download and install the latest.

Since I upgraded my laptop to Windows 8 and installed the latest iTunes, I can no longer see my ipad2 in iTunes.

Yes it is. I have a laptop with windows 8 and itunes 11 and sync my touch 4 and ipad 2 just fine. Unless the incompatibility is with newer models of iDevices.
Do you have iTunes 11? If not, download and install that. Also if you're using any hub or extender for the cable, stop using that. I haven't experimented with the wireless sync (I gave up using it on my old laptop simply because it took so very long to sync, I've found that wired sync is the quickest and most efficient)
One thing you may not be seeing is the name of your device, and that's because the default for iTunes 11 is to be without the sidebar that people are used to. Hitting control S will bring that back so you can see the name of your device and navigate in the familiar way.

IPad does not appear in iTunes Devices list

My MacBook Pro, iPhone, and iPad are all on the same network, however my iPad frequently does not appear in iTunes Devices when not physically connected by USB. No problem with my iPhone. Anyone else with this problem? Any solution? (Yes, all OS/iTunes softwares are current.)
Further detail, to temporarily fix this issue, I physically connect my iPad via USB to sync it. Temporarily the iPad will be seen in the device list allowing sycing to occur while remotely charging, but at some random time later my iPad is no longer found by iTunes - again without the physical USB link. So, yes there is a work around, but it is annoying to be so up and down with this feature.
Any ideas are appreciated.

IPad 4 not appearing in iTunes on PC?

I have been trying to connect my iPad 4 to my PC to sinc my iTunes music. My computer recognizes the iPad, but nothing appears on the iTunes. The 'devices'section doesn't appear. I know my iTunes works correctly... I plugged in my iPod into the same USB port, and the 'devices' section appears.
I have the newest version of iTunes. I looked on the apple site and tried their trouble shooting steps. I restarted the iPad and my PC, I stopped other programs that were running on the PC, I fully charged the iPad.
Any ideas on why iTunes is not working nicely?

Ipad not recognized in itunes

I'm sick of this....iPad is recognized by Windows 7 PC, but not in iTunes. Latest versions of all software - Windows 64 bit, iTunes 64 bit. I uninstall iTunes and reinstall, and it recognizes my iPad, but after computer shutdown and reboot, it's back to the same problem. I thought apple was supposed to be great?

Ipad not recognised in itunes

Hi
My ipad is not appearing in itunes, instead it is coming up in a separate window autoplay asking how I would like to open the ipad. What can I do?
Also my classic ipod will not sync fully with itunes.
All these problems have started since the new upgrade of the itunes store.
All help gratefully received.

Just get an Apple Logo then a flashing blue screen as if it is caught booting up. This has happened twice before and iTunes restore fixed it. But this time device not appearing in iTunes.

What content are you wanting to copy of the iPad ? You should be able to copy off anything that you've purchased from Apple (films, music, ibooks, apps etc) by connecting the iPad to your computer's iTunes and doing File > Transfer Purchases. If you want to copy off music copied from your own CDs or purchased from other sites then you will need to find a program for your computer that can copy them off – iTunes won't copy them off.
For photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit or saved from emails/websites then you should be able to copy them off via the Windows camera wizard.
For photos that were originally synced from a computer you will need a third-party app such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPad, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.
Content in third-party apps (documents and files etc) then how you copy that content off will depend upon what the apps that they are in support e.g.either via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc.

Ipad 1 not appearing in itunes. I am running 10.6.8 and have itunes 10.3.1

I have been given a first generation ipad and it will not appear in itunes. I have 10.6.8 installed with itunes 10.3.1. I connected the cable to the USB port in the back of the computer and when i connect to the ipad there is the audible sound when a connection is made like a "chime" but nothing appears in itunes. I looked at some troubleshooting sites and removed itunes and reinstalled it again but the problem still exists. I can download apps but cant get them to the ipad because "it's not there". Please help. Three frustrated kids and one swearing grown up.

I followed the instructions carefully and it still wouldn't work. Apparently my device was in the "rare circumstances" etc etc. I followed another link on the page which took me to http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3540 where I followed the instructions there and voila! problem resolved. On 3 different PC and 3 different iPad 2 when I installed iTunes 11.1 Windows Autoplay recognise the iPad but iTunes do not.
The device does not appear in iTunes and thus neither synchronisation nor backup are possible.
Reverting to the previous version of iTunes solved the issue.
However with IOS 7 iTunes 11.1 is required and I am back with the same issue. Could you please help?

If you try syncing with iTunes again, perhaps the phantom album will be erased since it does not exist on the computer.
Have you tried restarting or maybe resetting the iPad to see if the album will disappear?
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

IPad 3 does not appear in iTunes through wifi connection.

My ipad does not appear in Itunes to restore or back up data. Thestatus of my device are:
- updated the latest Itunes version 10.6 .
- tried to restart Apple Mobile Device in Window but it still doesn't work.
- Could not restore in DFU becasue the window doesn't recognize ipad. It appeared cable & itunes disk images but it itunes does not recognize.
- When i pluged the ipad in my laptop, window could not reconize ipad neither.
Please help to solve it!

Let me summary what i have done in the last few days to try to fix the issue taht the new ipad does not appear on itunes 10.6 so that you guys can have an overview to help me :
- removed previous itunes together with Apple Mobile Device and Bonjours
- Reinstall latest version Itunes
- restart computer (for sure the problem not from laptop becasue my other new ipad and iphone4 stil work well with itunes)
- tried using recovery mode when the iPad is connected with computer and iTunes open; Keep the Powerbutton and the Homebutton pressed at the same time until see the Apple logo on iPad screen.Then wait for about 10 minutes (i repeat this step many times). Ipad is turned on but still not connect to itunes or no notice board appeared on itunes to start restore
- I changed the usb cable/port...nothing change
status of device is:
- battery is fully charged
- My laptop (window 7)
- All what i can get is the ipad is charged when i plug in laptop.
- no apple device is recognized on "my computer" window
- no images tab is pop up as usual to copy photo
