IPad Numbers and Dates

Hi
Firstly, what appears to be a bug when trying to reformat a date cell/column - if I set to d/m/yy it turns on time, if I then go down and set time to NONE it changes the year format to yyyy. Pretty annoying.
Suggestion - keyboard for date fields should have now/today button - would make a lot of sense.
Is there a way of logging bug reports (outside of picking up a phone and talking to the admittedly very helpful guys in Bangalore)?
thanks
Andrew

I'm using iPad Numbers 1.1. The keyboard used for date fields DOES have a "Today" button. It doesn't show up when the "month" sub-field is selected (i.e. on the keyboard which has month names on the number buttons) because there isn't really room for it on the screen, but it does show up when the "day" or "year" sub-field is selected. It's to the right of the zero, where the decimal point would be on the straight numeric keypad.
In addition, the keyboard used for the "hour", "minute", and "second" sub-fields has a "Now" button, in the same place.

  • Wrapping numbers and dates in columns

Is there a way to have formatted numbers and dates wrap in cells when the columns are too small to display all the data?

    r,
Yes, but I have only had success if I add an auxiliary cell/column for the transition to text.
For instance if I have the Date/Time January 1, 2010 10:10 AM in Cell A1 and format it as Friday, January 1, 2010 10:10 AM it doesn't wrap, but, let's say, it has the proper format. If in Cell B1 I write: =A1 & "" , and I set the wrap property in the Format Inspector for that cell, I will get the proper format and the wrap in B1.
So, the concatenation operator and the null string convert the date object to text. I have found no way to do this in a single cell, even with a more complex formula.

  • Iphoto 6 library uses roll numbers and dates when viewing in photoshop

    Hi,
Hoping someone can help me. I'm a fairly inexperienced Mac user but have been using iphoto and photoshop fairly extensively but not for anything too complicated.
Before I upgraded to iLife 06 I could browse from within photoshop by going into iphoto library and then the year followed by the month and date - just what I needed.
This no longer works - infact it brings up photos in some very odd months and days if I browse iphoto library.
However, from reading this forum I have gathered that I need to look in the 'originals' folder to browse photos in photo shop now. Unfortunately though it gives the year and then only roll numbers.
Is there a way I can get it to work like it was doing? Also I would like to back up on a fairly regular basis my iphoto library to an external HD - whats the best way of doing this and can I get it so the organisation is years>months>days etc.
Thanks in advance for anyone's help.

The doc "IMG_0677.JPG" has an embedded colour profile that does not match the current RGB working space. The embedded profile will be used in stead of the working space.
Clicked OK and the image opened.
    Closed PS
Went back to iPhoto and choose that sameimage - double clicked. PS launched but the image still didn't.
What you should have done instead of just closing it is do a Save As being sure to check the box in PS, Embed sRGB color profile, that appears in the Save window. When you do that keep the location and file name exactly the same. That will force PS to embed that profile. As is was, you just opened it and then closed which left the file the same.
Or you can download the Automator application "Embed sRGB Profile" from Toad's Cellar, unzip it, and then drop those problem Original file onto it. It will automatically embed the profile into any image file dropped on it. You can do batches that way.
As far as the locked file, download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administartive name in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field. This will set the permissions correctly on all enclosed files AND unlock any locked file inside.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Can I transfer all my old iPad apps and data to a new ipad3?

I am thinking of buying the new iPad 3, will I be able to transfer everything from my current iPad?

    Sure you can.
Continue to backup the old iPad until you get the new one. You should back up and sync with iTunes. Syncing with iTunes will transfer all of your purchased content into iTunes on your computer.
When the new iPad arrives - you can plug in into your computer, launch iTunes and iTunes will ask if you want to restore from the iPad backup or set up as new. Restore from the iPad backup and then sync with iTunes to move all of your iTunes content onto the new iPad.
If you want to wipe the old iPad in order to sell it - go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Settings.
If you want to restore from an iCloud backup - read this.

  • Workflow Failures ---- Localizations --- On Numbers and Dates

We are finding that workflows that either do math or set dates are failing based on what a users locale setting is.
The issue is for locales where they replace the decimal point with a comma and where date fields are displayed in dd/mm/yyyy format.
An example of what we are seeing for currency fields is where a price is entered as 1.50, however the user is in Spain (Spanish locale) and therefore the price is displayed as 1,50 (note comma rather than decimal point). Workflow is interpreting this as 1,500.00 - therefore when we multiply price by quantity the result is off by 10,000.
Similarly for dates, any date logic or date setting via workflow rules fails because the date cannot be interpreted correctly.
Has anyone found any workaround for either of these issues ?

I found last year when using the today() function that it inserted the date as MM/DD/YYYY same with the Timestamp. In Australia we use date format as DD/MM/YYYY so it was marking all my records as closed on 12/7/2007 not 7/12/2007.
Luckily it was the Opportunity object and the work around I had was to make the Closed field as required field as part of the sales process when stage =closed/lost or won.
I didn't find any other solutions for this unless we set the system to US locale so that we got US date format. Hope this helps.

  • Encrypt numbers and dates

Is it possible to encrypt a number or date and the encrypted value will still be a number/date?
I need to update my access database with the encrypted value and I have non-string columns that I need to update.
    Thanks

I'm going to say no... generally when you encrypt something, you are encrypting a set of bytes (of course you could take the bytes that make the number or date) and it generates another set of bytes. Sometimes those bytes could be encoded as base64 text or something, of course, but they are not likely to be in a format that you could stick into an int or long value, nor a date.

  • My kid bought a bunch of in-app stuff accidentally and i was wondering how i get my money back?? please reply i have order numbers and dates.

I noticed about $350 worth of charges on my card today and had no idea what they were. After doing some digging I found it was an accidental in-app purchase my kid made while playing a game. I was just wondering how to go about giving the product, or whatever it was, back and getting a refund. I hope this will be honored because it's obvious I wouldn't spend that much on a game in just a few days, thanks.

First, to prevent this from happening again, turn off "In App purchases" in the Restrictions settings on your iPhone. You may also want to turn off the ability to install apps, to prevent purchases in case the child gets hold of your iTunes Store account information, and set the password to be required immediately. For more information, see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4213
As to a refund, that's not automatic since the terms of sale for the iTunes Store state that all sales are final. You can contact the iTunes Store, explain the reason for your request, and ask, though:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact.html
They're usually pretty lenient in the case of inadvertent purchases by children. No guarantees, though, just as if your child was in a store and ate a bunch of food (in other words, something that can't just be returned). And just FYI, some people do indeed knowingly spend that much in a game or other app in a few days, so Apple will make no presumptions just on that basis.
    Good luck.

  • How can I protect my data in numbers from unintentional user of my iPad by other family members? In other words, how can I password protect my numbers and other apps from apple computer company?

I have other members of my family use my iPad for educational/recreational use, young children who may want to play kid games. I don't want them to accdently get into my data stored in the three business apps from apple. I would like to password protect these files.
I would also like to log out of the email systems that I use, so some one else can use this device to access their own emails. By leaving my accounts open al the time, is really asking for trouble from a host of sources.
I can't believe that the iPad is not designed to protect the privacy and data from prying eyes ... Un intuitional as it may be.
Please fix this issue so I create my info on this device and enjoy it fully. Or tell me how I can protect my data.
    Thnax.

Thanx for your response. Any data stored anywhere should be able to be protected from stealing, malicious destruction or unintentional destruction. Theo ad an be stolen and without any kind ofpassword protection, the thief could get into your sensitive data.
If Apple wants iPad to become a business tool that can be used with ideas, thots, data protected, then Apple needs to provide this protection to it's customers. Now it's unto the users to use it or not.
I know iPad is being considered to be used by doctors, and can u imagine the confidentiality requirements of HIPPA rules... It will make this device not usable without data protection. I am sureweall have heard about hacking going on at all levels. It's surprising that this device's software is left unprotected.
My iPad may be sitting on my desk and my 3 year old grand daughter would pick it up and start "playing" with it. That means I can't store anything on this machine that may possibly be changed.
I have discussed this with specialists in apple stores, and those who have been around info technology understand my concerns and they may forward this request further up. They do not have the answer for it..... So far.
I think data security should be everyone's concern... Be it a one person device or multiple user device.
I hope that some responsible people at Apple would read this and provide the protection that will make this device lot more acceptable in the business world.

  • All my Numbers and Pages files unable to open on iPad and iCloud

It looks like all of my Pages and Numbers files from my iPad have been lost by iCloud? I don't use these apps often, but now when I launch them, all of my files have an upwards arrow icon in the upper right corner. When I select any file, the arrow goes away in under a minute, but the file never opens. When I try to access the files from iCloud.com from my MacBook, it says "Spreadsheet can't be downloaded. Please try again." What happened to my files!!!! I can open the "Getting Started" help files in each app.
My iPad is set up to backup Documents & Data to iCloud. The Storage & Backup options say I have 1.9 GB out of 5GB available. When I go into Manage Storage, it says I am using 5.1 MB for Numbers and 3.6 MB for Pages. When I drill down on each, it lists all of my files that won't open.
I can open my Keynote files from iCloud and my iPad. These do not show the arrow on the files. Reading through help files, the arrow seems to indicate that the file needs to be uploaded to iCloud? Turning off wifi on the iPad does not affect how this works. Force closing the apps and rebooting have no effect.
Any ideas? Is this an Apple bug or a confusing new feature of iCloud?

well, did the test again.. created on the iPad : see screenshot and date. Don't see any document preview.
Also opened all documents on iPad... same result.

  • Date format in iPad Numbers not compatible with Excel or OpenOffice

I use Apple Numbers on my iPad2 to collect data in the field, then download the file from iWorks as an Excel file to my PC running Windows XP and Office 2003. In the Numbers file, I want to enter dates in the format: mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm and that format is the one I choose in the Numbers Date/Time options dropdown menu.
When I open the Numbers-generated Excel file, the dates display correctly in that file as originally entered. The problem occurs when I copy cells with dates to another spreadsheet originally created with Excel 2003 or OpenOffice v3.3.0.
When I copy Numbers-generated date cells to another spreadsheet, either in Excel 2003 or OpenOffice v3.3.0, the displayed dates are not correct and appear to be off by a consistent serial number value. In terms of Excel's serial date values, the Numbers date value is -1462 relative to the correct date value. e.g., 7/26/12 14:30 (equal to a serial value of 41116.6041666667 in Excel) entered into Numbers is displayed as 7/25/08 14:30 (equal to 39654.6041666667 in Excel) when that cell is copied from the Excel-formatted downloaded copy of the Numbers file to another, original, Excel spreadsheet. Ditto for an OpenOffice spreadsheet.
Since the problem occurs with either Excel or OpenOffice, I have to believe the problem lies with Numbers......... Or I am doing something totally stupid.
    Any help on this?

Thanks for that. In fact, I had just discovered that same distinction between Win and Apple date systems before I saw your reply.
So, for me, the next meaningful question is whether I can change the date system used by my iPad and/or Numbers to match that used by my PC or...................... do I have to use a [+1462 days] workaround for eternity when copying dates from Numbers-generated files to spreadsheets I used on a daily basis in Excel on my Windows PC?
I understand one solution is to migrate completely to Apple, but I am not ready to do that.
    Thanks, bob

  • Document and data on ipad

iMac has document and data.Where is it on iPad?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Documents & Data storesz your iWork documents, you'll find them in Pages, numbers or Keynote. Several other apps also use documents & data, if you use any of these apps, you'll find that data when you open those apps.
To see exactly what is using documents and data, look at system preferences > iCloud > manage.

  • How do you auto generate series of dates or numbers in iPad Numbers?

    Hi,
I am using Numbers app on the latest iPad Air 2 running iOS 8. On the OS X version of Numbers, you could type the first two numbers in two rows and drag them while they are both selected to generate the rest of the numbers or dates or formulas accordingly.
I haven't figured it out how to do it on the iPad yet. Is this feature supported? What steps do I need to take?

Those technically are not named ranges. Its using the information in the "header" rows. Once you make a row a header row and sum it (or include the whole colun in some function). It will use the data/name in the header row in the equation to make it clearer. I do not think you can make named ranges in Numbers.
I made a test excel workbook using two formulas to sum a range, one with named ranges one without and sent to my ipad, when i opened it up...and downloading... yep...  it converted the named range to a regular range with letters and numbers. no named ranges support.
But learn to use your header and footer rows to get the same affect in many functions.
When i assign both header rows and columns to a table, it combines them into one string to show "Jan 2001" when I had a header column with Jan in A2, and a header row with "2001" in B1, then used the value in an equation.
The one your looking at I think says something like "=Sum(actuals)". that formula is in a designated footer row, and has a designated header row. at the top of that column is the label "actual". if you look at the difference column formulas, you will see how it combined header rows and columns into a single text string and use it to cross reference the cell being used.

    - it's all said in the title. I can't understand why the developers turn things bad ... risking loosing Apples valuable customers.
More examples needed? (check out the communities and the reviews)
    - OSX: Maverick to Yosemite = not recommended (check it out > http://roaringapps.com/apps)
    - iPad: older versions as iPad2 should not upgrade to iOS7/8 (it's not supporting its hardware accordingly, it's designed for the latest hardware)
    - iTunes (it's possible to rollback to 10.7 - 11.4, but you need to breech OSX system security framework)
    - Pages (was a real alternative for many of us, each update reduced features and created incompatibility to older work files)
The list could easily extend to ...
