IPad only connects to home Wi-Fi network when iMac is on and connected????
Since I got my iPad on launch date I've had problems with the Wi-Fi connection. It can always find my home network with a strong signal, and with a bit of trial and error i have discovered that it will only connect to my home network when I switch my iMac on.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
Andy
I have a similar issue with wifi. My home wifi is a strong signal but my iPad fails to automatically connect to it all the time and insists on staying on 3G. Weirdly if I go into system preferences and look at the wifi it says Not Connected, as soon as I click on it my wifi shows up and I can select it and it connects without issue and shows full strength. Why does it not auto connect ? It did when I first bought the iPad.
At work it always tries to connect to my office wifi as soon as I turn it on.

When you back up your Iphone/Ipad it backs up your camera roll. but when you take pictures and it uses photo stream, does that mean there are two copy's of your photos on icloud one set for photo stream and one set for backups?
What do you mean by storage quota, does that mean i could be photo streaming about 1gb of photos and it does not get taken away from my free 5bg.

Ipad only connects to publics wi-fi networks
Good Morning
My friend has a IPAD wifi+3G, and it doesn't connect to non-public wi-fi
We've tried everything...but it didn't work out....
Any of you guys can help us out?
Thanks in advanceHi Rodrigo,
Sorry, been busy today and couldn't back earlier.
Given the age of the router and the router firmware, and that you are able to connect to other (public) routers, this sure sounds like an issue with the router firmware. If the router expert says not to update, I am not sure what you can do other than get a new router. the iPad, as I said, is very sensitive to the router's software and protocols. Changing the channel may help but I am doubtful about that.
You could take the iPad to an Apple store and have them check the WiFi to make sure it is ok...but it sounds like there is nothing wrong with it.
Best I can suggest at this point is a new router or firmware update.

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Can you provide any other info on the problem?
What happens when you know Wi-Fi is present?
Some locations require you start the Safari browser where you will be taken to a page where you can accept terms and maybe enter a password?
Try looking in your Settings app.

I think it's a Lion problem. I had this problem with an old Dell True Mobile wireless router, and hoped it would go away with a new Airport Express router. Same problem. I checked online and saw a lot of message boards featuring questions from people that suffered the interruption of their wi-fi connection, some with Macbooks others with iMacs like me. The problem happens when I don't use the computer for a few minutes. It goes into the Idle mode, kind of like sleep. The connection is severed and the time clock upper right stops. It's weird. There was supposedly an Apple update that addressed this issue, so at the Genius bar two days ago I updated to 10.7.3, downloaded and installed the update. Didn't work. Is it Lion? Is it a wireless card issue? Very frustrating. I subitted a genius bar work authorization with another Apple Genius Bar support tech the next day. He ran some tests. Cryptically said he knew that Apple knew about this and was working on a solution but couldn't tell me what it was. Submitted my info and said I'd be contacted by an Apple tech within 48 hours and provided with a link to another download of another update that should "fix" the problem. I don't know what to do.
I FINALLY SOLVED THIS ISSUE!!!!
New routers have "mixed" modes for your network; this means that it will automatically choose the best option between wireless-B, wireless-G and wireless-N network modes. I used to experience this issue using the 2.4 GHz. mixed mode wireless network.
Thankfully, my router can create 2 networks: a 2.4 GHz. network and a 5 GHz. network.
When I randomly changed this value to "use only wireless-B and wireless-G" trying to fix an issue with a wi-fi expander, the iMac wi-fi issue dissapeared! I tried it with wireless-N only, but it didn't work.
So, finally, I have a 2.4 GHz network with only wireless-B and wireless-G modes which works PERFECT with the iMac, and a 5 GHz. network with a mixed* wireless mode for everything else mode.
*PD: by "mixed" mode it means that the router will automatically choose between B, G and N network modes as it fits better. -
I can get airplay to work between my Macbook Pro and iPhone 5 at my office but when I'm at home airplay will not work. Does anyone know what may be causing this issue? Thanks!

after a system restart, when I open Firefox, a new tab appears with My Yahoo displayed. I have my options set to restore session/tabs, with my home page listed as blank [not the best, i know]. I have not installed any new programs, other than Norton, to 2010 and have only done updates as required.
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== recently...I usually only shut down for reboots. If you use [[Clear Recent History]] in Firefox 3.5 and later or [[Clearing private data|Clear Private Data]] in Firefox 3 to clear the 'Browsing History' when Firefox is closed then restoring tabs from the last session ("Save & Quit" or "Show my windows and tabs from last time") doesn't work.

IPad cannot connect to 3G Network, but connects. Fine to grps
Hello,
I operate my iPad with postapid 3G Data Plans in Germany and Singapore AND until last Week had fast AND reliable connections on. Singtel and O2.
Since this Week, my iPad only connects to grps (Small circle Next to carrier Name ) and not to 3G anymore, althomugh strong 3G Network is available AND My iPhone connects to 3G without Problems.
The Micro SIM i use Works for 3G in Otter Devices. My iPad Runs The newest Carrier settings And The latetst Software.
Any ideas Gould Be greatly appreciated ! Thanksthanks a lot for your answer ! i tried this many times and of course had very good reception: the same micro Sim in my iphone 4 got beautiful full 3G, while my ipad only ever got GPRS.
I finally even restored the ipad and then had for a very brief time the 3G symbol appearing just to vanish again. I brought it to Apple service center in Singapore and they immediately exchanged it for new one.
Seems I had a bad unit.
cheers -

At home I have a HP PC, netbook and Sony laptop with no connection issues. Last year I bought an iPad 1 for my wife. This year I bought an iPad 2 for myself. However, only one iPad can connect to the wifi home network at a time. If I am using the iPad2 then the iPad1 fails to connect to the internet. if the iPad1 is being used then the iPad2 cannot connect. I tried resetting iPad network settings for both, reset router, and updated both iPads to latest software/firmware yesterday. Right now the only iPad that shows any connection is the iPad1. The iPad2 does not see the home network or any other outside network. Any suggestions or ideas on how to resolve this? It is odd the network issues only affect the iPad's.
@dananova,
It sounds like you need to either increase the number of dynamic IP addresses your router will hand out or change some of your devices to static IP addresses.
Check the router manual on how to change the dynamic IP range of your router. If you don't have a manual, you can go to Belkin's website and download it.
To change the IP address of your iPads to static addresses, go to Settings > Wi-Fi and tap the ">" next to the name of your wireless network. DHCP should be highlighted. Write down the all the settings on the screen. Next tap the Static button. Enter the exact same information that you copied from the DHCP screen with the exception of the last 3 digits of the IP address. Enter a new 3 digit number in this spot. Generally the original IP address will end with a low number such as 009, so pick a number that is not that low but less than 255. I would suggest a range of 240 to 250, unless the original IP range falls near this range. Also make sure you use a different 3 digits for each device you set to use a static IP address. -
Two days ago my ipad 2 with (wifi only) will not connect to my secured network even though it show's up as available with a strong signal. It keeps rejecting my password. I brought the Ipad to work and the same issue. However I am able to connect to an unsecured wireless network with no issue. Is this a network/router issue or an ipad issue? If it's a network issue what is the fix? calling my internet provider to change router settings?
- I've used the correct pw (it worked till 2 days ago)
- I use road runner from Time warner, not sure of the mac address filtering
-Security is WPA PSK.
I called road runner to request they remove my pw and see if i can access my wireless if that works which i believe it will then it has to be a security issue. I'm using a 802.11n wifi access point, if that means anything. -
I am unable to connect to my Wi-Fi at home, but am able to connect at work. Using my new iPad 4G with cellular and a Motorola SBG6580. My iPad 3G Wi-Fi only connects just fine; the 4G just "spins the gear."
